Cowan Harry Warren "Barney" Cowan, 83, of HCR 62 Neelyton, died at 12:01 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2001, at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg. Mr. Cowan had been in excellent heath until about six weeks ago. Funeral services were held May 21 at the Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church, RD Shade Gap, with Rev. Wilson Boyd and Rev. Belvy White officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, RD Shade Gap. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia. Born Oct. 8, 1917, in Dublin Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Harry A. and Melissa (Traxler) Cowan. He was united in marriage to Madaline (Wilson) Cowan on March 17, 1942. Mrs. Cowan survives at their home. Surviving are the following children: Randall D. Cowan and Jan Paul Cowan, both of HCR 62 Neelyton, and Kay Larue Book of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Hilda Shrader of the Masonic Homes, Elizabethtown. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, five sisters and one infant son. Mr. Cowan was a member of the Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church, RD Shade Gap, where he was a church member for 30 years. He was a Dublin Township supervisor for 25 years (1972-1997). Mr. Cowan was a lifetime member of the Shade Gap Area Volunteer Fire Company, a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, a member of the Southern Huntingdon County Young Farmers Association, a former member of the Franklin County Wool Growers Association and a former member of the Tuscarora Valley Grange. He was a lifetime dairy farmer and part-time butcher since 1945. He also worked at Stull Baldwin in Burnt Cabins, and later at Fraker's Grocery, Fort Littleton and was last employed at Rotz Meats, McConnellsburg. The Valley Log, Orbisonia, PA, May 23, 2001
