John Crowell was a son of David and Eliza Jane Crowell. He was born near Birmingham, July 27, 1844 and resided all his life in this community. On July 3, 1871 he was united in marriage. His wife preceded him to the grave May 23, 1926. Surviving his death is one son, Harry I., of Altoona and one daughter, Miss Anna May, at home. When the Civil war occurred, John Crowell was among the first to enlist and served faithfully throughout the great conflict, with honor to himself and the command in which he was assigned. He was a member of the Methodist church of Birmingham. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2.30 in the Presbyterian church at Birmingham, by Rev. Dr. H. H. Henry, of Philadelphia, former pastor of the Birmingham Presbyterian church. Interment in the Methodist cemetery at Birmingham. undated clipping JOHN CROWELL, A lifelong resident of Birmingham and vicinity, and a veteran of the Civil War, died at his home in Birmingham on Thursday at noon, death being attributed to a complication of ailments brought on by paralysis suffered on May 4. Mr. Crowell was born near Birmingham, July 27, 1844, the son of David and Mrs. Jane Crowell, and resided all his life in that vicinity. He was among the first to answer the country's call for volunteers to put down the southern rebellion faithfully with the union army during the entire conflict. He was married on July 3, 1871. His wife died on May 23, 1926. He is survived by one son, Harry I. Crowell of Altoona, and one daughter, Miss Anna May Crowell, at home. He was a member of the Birmingham Methodist church. Funeral services will be conducted in the Birmingham Presbyterian church Friday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock in charge of Rev. Dr. H. H. Henry of Philadelphia, a former pastor and intimate friend.
