John Porter Davis died at his home in Barree on Thursday, November 7th at 7 p.m. from causes due principally to advanced age. Deceased was born at Barree on November 25th, 1841, being aged at time of death 76 years, 11 months and 13 days. He served in the Civil war as a private in Company D, Second regiment, Pennsylvania provisional heavy artillery, and later in Company H, Second regiment Pa. heavy artillery. On July 17, 1870, he was united in marriage to Miss Adalanta Bard, of Aughwick, Huntingdon county. He had been employed as a railroad watchman for the period of 28 years, but had been on the retired list during the past eight years. He was a member of the Middle Division Veteran Railroader's association. He is survived by his wife and four children: Mrs. Edith Smith, of Springdale, Pa.; Dr. Bower R. Davis, of East Pittsburgh; Charles Davis, at home, and Ira Davis, who is in the Emergency hospital at Wilmerding, very ill with influenza.
