We encourage links to the state and county table of contents. ____________________________________________________________ Steven Dietrich Reiners, 45, of R.R. 3, Box 356-Z, Huntingdon, Henderson Township, died at 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2004. in Reed Township, Dauphin County. Mr. Reiner's death was unexpected and accidenBorn Sept. 15. 1959, in Detroit. Mich., he was the son of Dr. Charles R. Reiners and Edeltraud Else (Krull) Reiners. Mrs. Reiners preceded him in death and Dr. Reiners resides with his son in Santiago, Chile. Mr. Reiners is survived by one brother, Robert H. Reiners of Santiago, Chile, and by his dear friend, Joan Grainey. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick Charles Reiners. Mr. Reiners was a graduate of Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale, Colo., Class of 1978. He was employed as a welder in highway construction and as a logger. Mr. Reiners was a member of the National Rifle Association and was an avid hunter, fisherman and canoeist. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home in Huntingdon with the Rev. W. Thomas Warne III officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. SSgt. Nathaniel J. "Nate" Nyren, 31, of Pittsburgh, died in Baghdad, Iraq, Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, when a civilian vehicle struck his military vehicle. He was born March 5, 1973, in Bristol, Conn., and reared in Reston, Va., the son of Peter and Julie A. Nyren of Reston, Va., and Susan Kimmel of Norman, Okla. He is the grandson of Robert E. Nyren of Wolcott, Conn.; Elizabeth Schaut of New Britian, Conn.; Don and Frances French of Canada; and Antonio and Concepcion Reyna of Austin, Texas. He was the husband of Rebecca (Smith) Nyren and father of Brooke Nyren of Reston, Va. His wife is a native of Mount Union and a 1988 graduate of Mount Union Area High School. In addition to his parents, grandparents, wife and daughter, he is survived by three siblings; Jessamy Nyren of Waynesboro, Va., Natalie Nyren of Reston, Va., and Peter G. Nyren of Reston, Va. SSgt. Nyren was a 1991 graduate of South Lakes High School and attended Virginia Tech. He joined the United States Army in 1995 and served as a squad leader with the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Calvary Division, Fort Hood, Texas. He was a devoted and loving father and husband. Funeral services with military honors will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, at Fort Myer Chapel, Arlington National Cemetery. Graveside services will be conducted immediately following the funeral. Dorothy Kelly, 80, of Henrietta, died unexpectedly late Wednesday evening, Dec. 29, 2004, at the Altoona Regional Health System. Altoona Hospital Campus. She was born Feb. 21, 1924. in Saxton. She was united in marriage to Lester R. Kelly. who preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Jane Scheucbenzuber of Spring Mills; a son, Tom Kelly of Henrietta; two grandchildren, Jennifer Renn of Terre Haute, Ind.; and James Scheuchenzuber of Potters Mills; and two great-grandchildren, Raven and Ewan Renn. Seven brothers and sisters survive; Hazel Wright of Woodbury; Alan Roub of Martinsburg; Gerald "Jay" Roub and Pauline Butts, Baltimore, Md,; Glenn Roub and Betty Burket, both of East Freedom; and Donna Clark of Everett. She is also survived by two half-sisters, Edna Peck and Dianna Roub, both of Frederick, Md. She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl, and an mfant brother, Kenneth. Mrs. Kelly was an active member of Diehi's Crossroads Church of the Brethren in Curryville. where she contributed to the music ministry and was a lifetime deaconess. She graduated from Saxton Liberty High School m 1942. After her marriage to Lester Kelly. the couple resided in Baltimore during the war years, working at the Martin Marietta Aircraft plant. After the war, they returned to Pennsylvania and established a small farm in Hesston where they reared their children. In addition to her life as a homemaker, Mrs. Kelly was an avid and prolific artist, musician and gardener. Her mediums included watercolors and oils, with landscapes and birds her favorite subjects. As a musician. she both enjoyed and instructed in piano and guitar. Her plants, flowers and paintings won numerous awards at local fairs. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at Diehl's Crossroads Church of the Brethren with Pastor Millie Baker officiating. Interment was made in private in Brumbaugh Cemetery, Martinsburg. R.R. 2. Loretta Pauline (Figard) RUBY, 72, of 401 Bunker Hill Road, Six Mile Run, died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital, Everett. Born June 7, 1932, in Six Mile Run, she was the daughter of the late R. Raymond Figard and Esther Mae (Mort) Figard. She was united in marriage to Lester Ruby March 7, 1952, in Saxton, by the Rev. John Seippel. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Vickie Mathes, and her husband, David, of Six Mile Run, and Barb Childers, and her husband, George. of Hopewell; and one son, James Ruby, and his wife, Lisa Teeters, of Hopewell. She is also survived by six grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother survive; Ruth Figard of Osterberg, Janet Carrie of Middletown and George Figard of Saxton. She was preceded in death by a son, Lester Merle Ruby, four brothers. Frank, Donald, Robert and Charles; and a sister, Naomi. Mrs. Ruby was a lifetime member of the Round Knob Church of God, where she served as church council secretary and Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid Society for over 30 years. Mrs. Ruby was primarily a homemaker. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home, Broad Top City, with Pastor Bernie Fortna officiating. Interment will be made in the Broad Top City IOOF Cemetery. Donald G. "Alvey" HESS, 84. Shade Gap, died at 4:39 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Born Aug. 11, 1920, in Shade Gap, he was the son of the late Clarence J. and Hattie (Gamble) Hess. He was united in marriage to Laurabelle Miller Oct. 31, 1942. in Hagerstown, Md. He is survived by his wife at home and by a son, D. Mark Hess of Smithfield; a daughter, Linda M. Stolte of Chambersburg; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A sister, Margaret Waite of Orbisonia, survives. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Hess was a member of the Shade Gap Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Cromwell Lodge No. 572 F&AM, Orbisonia Harrisburg Consistory; Blue Juniata Post No. 5754 VFW, Mount Union; and the Shade Gap Senior Citizens. He was a life member of Madden-Wennick Post No. 518 American Legion, Rockhill Furnace. and was a charter member of both the Shade Gap Lions Club and the Shade Gap Volunteer Fire Co. Mr. Hess was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army in the European Theatre. Mr. Hess worked for 30 years as a miller at the C.J. Hess Mill in Shade Gap. After that, he was employed by Grove Manufacturing, Shady Grove, from which he retired. In recent years. he has enjoyed working with Walters Well Drilling, Shade Gap. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Pastor Merry Hope Meloy officiating. Interment will be made in Upper Path Valley Cemetery, Dry Run, R.R. Clyde L. LEIGHTY, 94, of 19 1/2 N. Jefferson St., Mount Union, died at 7:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at Woodland Retirement Center in Orbisonia. Born Sept. 17, 1910, in East Freedom, he was the son of the late John and Lydia (Snowberger) Leighty. He was united in marriage to Anna Mary Fields Sept. 3, 1934, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Mount Union. His wife preceded him in death Jan. 13, 1999. He is survived by a brother, Grant J. Leighty of Mount Union, and a sister. Belva Wineland of Martinsburg He was preceded in death by the following sisters: Dorothy and Helen Leighty, who died in infancy, and Ruth Kunsman, Kathleen Dudley. Arlene Yeager and Bertha Wallace. Mr. Leighty was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Mount Union. He was a board member of the Bricktown Seniors in Mount Union antL was a member of F&AM Lodge No. 688 in Mount Union for 50 years. At one time, he co-chaired, with his wife, the American Cancer Society Drive for Huntingdon County. Mount Union Division. Additionally, Mr. Leighty was a member of the Mount Union Area School Board for 32 years, serving as president for 28 years. He was instrumental in the establishment and the ongoing development of the Huntingdon County Vo-Tech School, Mill Creek - now known as the Huntingdon County Career and Technology Center - and remained an integral part tor many years. Mr. Leighty was a graduate of Huntingdon High School, Class of 1931. In school, be was active in sports, lettering in basketball and football. He was chief carpenter at General Refractories, Mount Union, until its closing in 1954. Following this, he was employed by the E.B. Endres Co.. working at both the Mount Union and Huntingdon locations, retiring in 1975. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home. Mount Union, with Vicar Susan J. McCarthy officiating. Interment will be made in Mount Union Cemetery. Jeanne L. MAHONEY, 77, of Huntingdon, R.R. 4, and a former Tyrone resident, died at 6:29 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at Tyrone Hospital. Born March 4, 1927, in Tyrone, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Helen (Smith) Lucas. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Hoover, and her husband, Dr. Brian Hoover, of Huntingdon, R.R. 4; and four grandchildren: Chris Seftas of Huntingdon; Brian P. Hoover, a senior at Bucknell University, Lewisburg; and Lindsey M. and Kaitlyn N. Hoover, both of Huntingdon. Two brothers and one sisters survive; Jack Lucas of Tyrone, Robert Lucas of Bowie, Md., and Patty Lucas of Philadelphia. She was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Heren. Mrs. Mahoney was a member of the Lower Spruce Creek Presbyterian Church. She had been a Girl Scout leader and was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Tyrone and the Tyrone Hospital Auxiliary. She was a graduate of Tyrone High School, Class of 1945, and the Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia. She was employed at Tyrone Hospital as a registered nurse, retiring in 1987, and later retired in 1996 from Home Nursing Agency. She particularly enjoyed her grandchildren and followed all of their various activities. Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone, with the Rev. Norman E. Huff officiating. Interment will be made in Blair Memorial Park. Mary Ruth (Myers) LINTON, 86, of Huntingdon, died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Born July 5, 1918 in her lifelong home at 1816 Muffin St., Huntingdon, she was the daughter of Oscar R. and Mabel D. Myers. She was united in marriage to Richard W. Linton Esq. March 31, 1949, by Calvert N. Ellis. Attorney Linton preceded her in death May 5, 1978. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Elizabeth Linton of Horsham and Martha Linton Boden of Scotia, N.Y., and two grandsons, Christopher John Boden and Michael Linton Boden. Two sons, David C. Linton and John W. Linton, and a daughter, Barbara A. Linton peceded her in death. Mrs. Linton was a longtime member of the Stone Church of the Brethren in Huntingdon, where she had been a member of the church board and chair of the Nurture Commission. She was one of the deacons of the church. Educated in Huntingdon public schools, Mrs. Linton was a member of the Huntingdon High School Class of 1934. She graduated cum laude from Juniata College in 1938. In 1939, she received a master of arts in music degree from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. She did further work on her doctorate at the Eastman School of Music and also did graduate study at the School of Music of the University of Michigan. Her first teaching position was at Oak Grove School, Vassalboro, Maine, where she was a music instructor, teaching piano and music appreciation and conducting the choir. Mrs. Linton was a Juniata College faculty member from 1942-1951, and from 1963-1990, taking time off in between to start a family. As professor, she served as chairperson of the music department for several years and taught piano, harpsichord and courses inmusic theory and music history. While at Juniata, Professor Linton received the first Beachley Award for Distinguished Academic Service. In 1989, she retired from Juniata and gained status as emerita. She was also a very talented musician and gave solo piano recitals, appeared with other musicians in joint recital playing piano or harpsichord and was accompanist for choral concerts. In Huntingdon, she had been president of the Huntingdon Music Club and co-president of the Huntingdon Branch of the American Association of University Women Statewide, she had been a member of the board of directors of Pennsylvania State Sunday School Association, coordinator of Central Region, and had been on the board of directors of Franklin Concerts, Inc., Philadelphia. She also served as secretary of the board of directors of Camp Kanesatake, and later of the Foundation for Camp Kanesatake. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the Stone church of the Brethren, Huntingdon with the Revs Dale and Christy Dowdy and the Rev. Tom Warne officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. Dale William DETWILER, 96, former chairman of New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. Inc., died peacefully Friday morning, Dec. 31, 2004, at The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg, where he had been a resident for the past 12 months. Born Nov. 24, 1908, he was the son of the late J.S. and Delilah (Replogle) Detwiler. He was twice married, first on June 2, 1930, to Roxie Steele who preceded him in death Oct. 28, 1977. In December 1978 he was united in marriage to Vrginia Roop, who preceded him in death in January 2003. He is survived by two daughters and a son; Shirley D. Lingenfelter of Martinsburg, Charlotte D. Clark of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Donald L Detwiler of Hollidaysburg. He is also survived by six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three stepchildren; Nancy Peters of Vienna, Va.. Mac Roop of Columbus, Ohio, and Amy Oliver of Lawrence, Kan. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters; Emmmert I., Paul I., C. Galen Detwiler, Cora Jane Miller, Cleo Hershberger, Prudence Ferry and Marguerite Detwiler. Mr. Detwiler has been actively interested in the affairs of the New Enterpiise StOne & Lime Co. and his family and was generally healthy until one week prior to his death. He was a native of New Enterprise, but had moved to Roaring Spring where he and his wife Roxie, became stalwarts of the community. The couple served as deacons of the First Church of the Brethren in Roaring Springs for over 40 years. He also served the denomination as a long time member of the general board of the Church of the Brethren. He was a member of the Roaring Spring Rotary Club and a member of the board at the Blairmont County Club. He was the chairmen of the board at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, during the construction of the new facility at its present location. He was also a chairman of the Roaring Spring School District at the time of the merger to form the Spring Cove School District. He was also an active and long time member of the board of trustees of Juniata College. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the First Church of the Brethren in Roaring Spring with Dr. Robert Neff officiating. Interment will be made at the convenience of Mr. Detwilers Family in the Alto-Reste Park, Altoona
