MCVEYTOWN - Jenna M. Feathers, 19, 25 S. Queen St., McVeytown,
died at 2 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, in the emergency room of
Lewistown Hospital.
Born Oct. 20, 1980, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of Steven
R. and Susan J. (Kauffman) Feathers of 25 S. Queen St., McVeytown.
Also surviving are: her fiance, Nicholas T. Traxler, Traxler
Lane, Longfellow; maternal grandmother, Betty Kauffman, South Market Street,
McVeytown; paternal grandfather, William E. Feathers, Ohesson Manor,
Lewistown; and a great-uncle, William R. Booth, South Market Street, McVeytown.
She was a freshman at East Stroudsburg University.
She was a 1999 honor graduate of Lewistown Area High School,
where she was a member of the four time District 6 Championship Girls
Basketball Teams and the 1996-97 and the 1997-98 State Championship Girls
Basketball Teams.
She was also a four-year member of the Lewistown Area High School Girls
Soccer Teams, and a member of the National Honor Society.
She was twice listed in the Who's Who Among American High
School Students and was the 1999 WCHX outstanding girls basketball player for
Mifflin County.
She was Methodist by faith.
She loved to draw and spend time with her friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McVeytown United
Methodist Church, South Queen Street, McVeytown, with the Rev. Marian E.
Hartman officiating. Interment will be in Mattawana Cemetery,
McVeytown.
Family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at
Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown.

BELLEVILLE - Ruth E. Yoder, 99, Valley View Haven, Belleville,
formerly of Allensville, died at 12:40 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at
Lewistown Hospital. 
Born Oct. 8, 1900, in Kalona, Iowa, she was a daughter of the
late Amos I. and Salome A. (Yoder) Yoder. Her husband, Thomas B. Yoder, died
June 14, 1965. 
Surviving are: children, Richard L. Yoder, Allensville, Mrs.
Vincent (Ruby) Snyder of Goshen, Ind., and Mrs. Robert (Sara) Frey of
Elkhart, Ind.; brother, Sanford A. Yoder, Goshen, Ind.; 17 grandchildren and 40
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Arnold I. Yoder, on Dec.
25, 1991; five sisters and two brothers.
She was a graduate of Goshen Academy and had attended Goshen
College.
She was employed as a school teacher and taught in Ohio and
Pennsylvania, including a one-room schoolhouse in Brady Township.
She was a member of Otelia Mennonite Church, Mount Union RR.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Valley View
Haven Chapel, Belleville, with the Rev. Galen Sharp and the Rev. Paul Bender
officiating.
Interment will be in Allensville Mennonite Cemetery.

acob J. Duran, 86, of 450 Dry Valley Road, Lewistown, died
at 12:37 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born July 6, 1913, in Avona, Union County, he was a son of the
late Andrewand Agnes (Novacki) Duran. His first wife, Emma Jane (Serfass)
Duran, preceded him in death in 1975, and his second wife, Beatrice
Duran, preceded him in death in 1993.
Surviving are: children, Carole Jane Duran, Lewistown, and
Charlotte Ann Macomber, Mt. Airy, Md.; sister, Cartherine Mulitsch, Pen
Argyl; half brother, Leo Suprys, Pen Argyl; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Duran and Adam
Duran, and one sister, Anna Heitz.
He was a self-employed dairy farmer, owning and operating
Dur-Ridge Farm, Orbisonia.
He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church,
Burnham, and the Holstein Fresian Association.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Schmidt Funeral Home,
202 West St., Wind Gap., with the Rev. Clyde B. Singh officiating. Interment
will be in St. John's Community Cemetery, Nazareth.
Family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the
funeral home.

Thelma B. Wilson, 77, of McAlevys Fort died Monday, Dec. 20,
1999, due to a fire at her home.
Born March 7, 1922, in Belleville, she was a daughter of the
late Joseph M. and Quillas Baker Young. She married F. Taylor Wilson, 
who died July 23, 1991.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church of  McConnellstown
and the Ladies Fellowship of the church. She was a life member of Stone Creek  
Valley Fire Company, a charter member of Stone
Creek Valley Fire Company ladies auxiliary, and  a member of
Juniata Valley Senior Citizens and Petersburg Area Homemakers. She was active 
in scouting for 40 years.
She was an avid camper and quilter. She also  enjoyed crafts.
She is survived by three daughters, Lucille Foster and Susan
Fos-ter, both of McAlevys Fort, and Ann Fleck of State College; 
10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-
grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today at Baggus Funeral
Home, Belleville.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home,
with Pastor Dennis Allison and Pastor Brent Book officiating.
Burial will be in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery, McAlevys

Sarah Ruth DeArmitt, 102, of Huntingdon died Friday, Dec. 17,
1999, at Huntingdon Manor in Huntingdon. 
She was born in McConnellstown, the daughter of the late Henry
and Ida Mary Gilbaugh Guyer.
In 1914, she married Henry C. DeArmitt. He preceded her in
death in Nov. 1960.
She was a member of the Ennisville United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing and quilting.
She is survived by her five daughters, Blanch DeArmitt of
Huntingdon, Ida Mary Gates of State College, Sarah Henninger of Petersburg, 
Grace Bragonier of State College, Treasia Henninger of
Forest City, N.C., and her five sons, Walter DeArmitt of Pine
Grove Mills, Harry DeArmitt of State College, Ellis DeArmitt of Petersburg, Joseph F.
DeArmitt of Alexandria and Cyrus W.
DeArmitt of State College.
Also surviving are one sister, Martha Hammond of Huntsburg,
Ohio, and one brother, Daniel Guyer of Bellefonte. She had 27 grandchildren, 
59 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren and a number
of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Lester, Stanley and
Owen DeArmitt as well as by two sisters, Anna Reihard and Treasia Isenberg, 
and eight brothers, Samuel, Philip, Cyrus, John, Arthur, Thomas, William and 
Raymond Guyer.
The visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Koch Funeral Home. 
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21 at
Koch Funeral Home, with Pastor Shirley Russell officiating. 
Burial will be at the Ennisville Cemetery, McAlevys Fort.

Kathy L. Drake, 19, of Spruce Creek died Saturday, Dec. 18,
1999, in Clearfield County
following injuries received in an automobile accident.
Born July 18, 1980, in Roaring Spring, she was a daughter of
David N. and Vicky L. Shaw Drake of Spruce Creek, with whom she resided.
She was a 1998 graduate of Tyrone Area High School.
She was a sales clerk at the Minit Mart and was the dining
hall supervisor at Foxdale Village, both in State College.
She had attended the Upper Spruce Creek Presbyterian Church.
She was a former member of the Martinsburg Girl Scout troop.
She enjoyed horses and shopping.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters,
Beth A. at home and Heidi J. of Julian; a
brother, David J. at home; paternal grandfather, John M. Drake
of Curryville; maternal grandparents, James A. Shaw and Joyce A. Foor,

Eleanor M. Lancaster, 73, of 6 Substation Road, Mount
Union, died unexpectedly in her home Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999.
Born Sept. 26, 1926, in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, she
was a daughter of the late Wilbur K. and Ethel P. (Grove) Myers. 
Her husband, Merl W. Lancaster, whom she married in August 1950, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Donald K. Lancaster and George
L. Lancaster, Mount Union RD1, and Mrs. Robert (Deborah) Ronk, McVeytown
RD2; brother and sisters, George Myers, Newport, Thelma Folk,

Catherine S. Kirk, 75, of East Waterford RR1, died Monday,
Dec. 20, 1999, at Stonebridge Health & Rehabilitation Center,
Duncannon. 
Born May 17, 1924, in Blairs Mills, she was a daughter of the
late Ira and Annebelle (Varner) Stallman. Her husband, Ross R. Kirk, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Edward R. Kirk, Shermansdale,
and Judith Rich, Newport RR2; brother and sister, Ralph Stallman, Shade Gap,
and Dorothy Colyer, Woodland Nursing Home, Orbisonia; and four

She retired as a seamstress from the former East Waterford

Harold C. Foster, 72, a resident of the Malta Home, Granville,
formerly of 31 Riverview Drive, McVeytown, died at 10:15 a.m.
Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at the home.
Born May 9, 1927, in Mapleton Depot, he was a son of the late
Clair J. and Emma (White) Foster. His wife, Verna M. (Harshbarger) Foster,
whom he married Feb. 20, 1959, survives.
Also surviving are: two sons, James C. Foster, Stafford, Va.
and John C. Foster, McVeytown; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Mary) David,
Womelsdorf; a brother, Gerald D. Foster, Huntingdon; two grandchildren and

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, James L.
Foster.
He had served with the United States Army, having served with
the 26th Field Artillery Battalion.
Early in life, he was a farmer and a school bus driver. He
also worked as a meat cutter at the A&P Grocery Store in Mount Union and as a
road supervisor for Union Township in Huntingdon County. He retired in 1989 as
project manager for Riverside Farms Inc., Huntingdon.
He was a member of McVeytown United Methodist Church.

Erma Elizabeth Smith, 64, of State College died Thursday, Dec.
23, 1999, at home.
She was born Aug. 27, 1935, in Miller Township, Huntingdon
County, a daughter of the late Frederick Miller and Anna
Margaret Hutchison Couch.
On June 18, 1954, she married Roy E. Smith Jr., who survives
in State College. 
She was a 1953 graduate of Jun-iata Valley High School.
She had been a medical records secretary at Centre Community
Hospital for 25 years.
She was a member of Moores-ville United Methodist Church in
Petersburg.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Dennis
L. Smith of Huntingdon; a foster son, Charles Hollenbaugh of
Huntingdon; two sisters, Helen Couch Norris and Ann Couch Taylor; three
brothers, Theodore Couch, Andrew Couch and Elwood Couch; and three
grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Koch Funeral

Karl James Sprout, 71, of State College, formerly of
Petersburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at home.
Born May 13, 1928, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Paul
S. and Bertha Nye Sprout. On Jan. 28, 1946, he married Pauline
Elizabeth Strickler, who survives at home.
He had worked at Atotech Corp. in State College for 20 years,
retiring as supervisor in 1991. From 1964 to 1981, he had
operated the Mountain View Cottages in Peters-burg and from 1955 to 1963,
he operated the Dari Belle Drive Inn in Danville.
He was a member of Mahoning Lodge 516 in Danville.
He was an avid hunter and especially liked fishing on the
Great Lakes and fishing for muskellunge.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters,
Barbara Richard of rural Petersburg and Carol Trostle of rural
Bainbridge; a son, Robert of State College; seven grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren. A son, Karl Edward Sprout, preceded him
in death.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Koch Funeral
Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College.

Dr. Donald Cameron Malcolm, 91, of 511 Main St., Alexandria,
died unexpectedly at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at
J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon.
Born Jan. 5, 1908, in Indiana, Pa., he was a son of the late
Walter Younger and Sarah (Archibald) Malcolm. His wife,
Phyllis M. (Lantzer) Malcolm, whom he married March 15, 1952, in 
Winchester, Va., survives.
Also surviving are: children, Walter Y. Malcolm, Lewistown,
Mrs. Gary (Mary Katherine) Fairchild, Lewisburg, and J.
"Randy" Updyke, Charleston, S.C.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Malcolm,
in 1946; and three brothers and two sisters, Douglas Malcolm,
Harry Malcolm, W. Thomas Malcolm, Katherine Malcolm and Winona
Malcolm.
He was a 1926 graduate of Indiana High School, a 1930 graduate
of W&J College, and a graduate of Cornell Medical School, New
York City. He served his internship and residency at Mercy
Hospital, Harlem, New York City, N.Y.
He entered the U.S. Army as a captain in 1942. He served for a
short time in military hospitals in the U.S. and then in
London during the bombing campaign. He later joined the Fifth Armored Division,
where he was in charge of a medical field unit during the invasion of
France. He continued with this division until World War II ended in 1945.
He was instrumental in the construction of the Juniata Valley
Medical Center, which was completed in 1972. He was a staff
physician at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He retired from public
practice in 1974, and saw his last patient Nov. 30, 1987. He was also team
physician for the Juniata Valley athletic department.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Alexandria;
the Pennsylvania Medical Society; the American Medical
Society; the Juniata Valley Lions Club, where he was a charter member
and past president; the Alexandria Sportsman's Association, where he
had served as president and treasurer for a number of years; the Alexandria
Volunteer Fire Company, where he had participated in the reorganization of
the company in the late 1930s; the Juniata Valley School Board, where he
had served as president and a member; and a former member of Blue Lodge F&AM
No. 300, the Jaffa Mosque and Altoona Consistory.
Services will be held at 1 p.m Friday at the Cutright-Speck
Funeral Home, Juniata Valley Chapel, 412 Main St., Alexandria,
with the Rev. John C. Dean officiating. Interment will be in Alexandria

Dolores T. "Dee" Bark, 68, of Alexandria, Pa., died
Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown.
Born June 2, 1931, in Philadel-phia, she was a daughter of the
late Edmond L. and Agnes M. Bricker Seguin. On March 3, 1951, she
married James J. Bark, who survives at home.
She was a 1949 graduate of West Philadelphia Catholic High
School.
She worked in the mail room of the Admissions Office at Penn
State for several years. She also worked at Mead Corp. in Alexandria,
retiring in 1996 after more than 20 years of service.
She was an active volunteer member of Most Holy Trinity
Catholic Church in Huntingdon, where she also belonged to Cursilla and served
as a Eucharistic Minister.
She volunteered for many years at Juniata Valley in support of
her children's activities.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by six daughters,
Theresa Showers, Deborah Hoffmaster, Madonna Bark, Jean Boyd, Joanne
Thompson and Colleen Johnson; two sons, James J. Jr. and John;
a sister, Patricia Machon; a brother, Edmond Seguin Jr.; 23
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. An infant son, Gerard, preceded 
her in death.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 to
10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Smithfield Township,
Huntingdon. A vigil service will be at 8 p.m. Monday at the
funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Sixth and Washington Streets,
Huntingdon, with Monsignor David A. Lockard as celebrant.
Burial will be in Mooresville Cemetery.

James A. "Jimmy" Hamman, 39, of Hill Valley, Mount Union,
died at 9:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at J.C. Blair
Memorial Hospital,Huntingdon.
Born Nov. 30, 1960, in Huntingdon, he was a son of Edsel F.
Hamman Sr., Hill Valley, Mount Union RR1, and the late Norma
J. (Shehan) Hamman. 
Surviving are: children, Shannon Hamman, James A. Hamman Jr.,
and Hayley Marie Moulds, all of Mount Union; brothers and
sisters, Mrs. John (Deborah) Avromoupoulos, Leigh Acres, Fla., Susan Lynn,
Mount Union, Edsel F. Hamman Jr., Three Springs, Norma Jean Ausec, Manitou
Springs, Colo., Jeffrey L. Hamman, Hill Valley, Mount Union RR1, and
Mrs. Fred (Kathy) Love, McVeytown; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie K. Moore.
He was a 1979 graduate of Mount Union Area High School.
He was employed for the past year for Howard Robson
Construction Co., Lancaster, and formerly employed by
Harbison-Walker and North American Refractories, both of Mount Union.
He was a member of Simpson-Hunt American Legion Post No. 107,
Mount Union, and the Blue Juniata VFW Post No. 5754, Mount
Union.
He attended Singer's Gap United Methodist Church, Hill Valley.
He was an avid outdoorsman.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Robert D. Heath
Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Rich Morris
officiating. Interment will be in Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg RR1.
