Box 2046, Dudley, died at 7:40 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, following an extended illness. Born Nov. 7, 1908, in Tatesville, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Rebecca (Warnick) Smith. He was married to Florence Elizabeth Sparks May 16, 1932, in Everett. She preceded him in death Sept. 13, 1999. Surviving are the following children: Charles Smith, Hustontown; Allen Smith, Chambersburg; Peggy Barnett and Paul Smith, both of Dudley; Sam Smith, Charleston, WV; and the Rev. Archie Smith, Myersdale. There are 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Two daughters, Wanda King and Betty Snyder, preceded him in death. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters: Charles Smith, Frank Smith, Nelson Smith, Annie Showalter and Daisy Conley. Mr. Smith was a member of the Coalmont Church of God, where he served as superintendent and taught Sunday School. He was a member of UMWA and worked as a coal miner for over 30 years, retiring in 1954. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor Lanny Hoover officiating. Interment will be made in the Protestant Cemetery, Dudley. Avery C. THOMAS, 85, of Delmont, formerly of Wilkinsburg and Wilkins Township, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at the William Penn Care Center, Penn Township. Born Sept. 25, 1915, in Six Mile Run, he was a son of the late Nathan W. and Mary (Fleck) Thomas. He married Martha M. Brode Aug. 3, 1940. Mrs. Thomas survives at home, along with a sister, Mrs. Charles (Ruth) Launtz of Huntingdon, a grandson, a granddaughter and three great-granddaughters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne Thomas Sultan Aug. 24, 1997; by a sister, Margretta "Dotty" Hetrick, and an infant brother, Fred Thomas. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Thomas had been employed as a coal miner for seven years. Then for 35 years, until his retirement in 1980, he was a machine operator at Westinghouse Electric Corp. in east Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Wilkinsburg Baptist Church and most recently had attended the Delmont Presbyterian Church. His hobbies included.golfing and bowling and in his youth he had been a pitcher with a good curve ball for the Six Mile Run baseball team. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 4, at 4 p.m., at the John L. Bash Funeral Home, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, with the Rev. Glen H. Burrows and the Rev. Thelma Mitchell officiating. A graveside committal service and interment will be held at the Fockler Cemetery in Saxton, with the Rev. Stanley Cordell officiating. Martha E. SMITH, 100, of Fulton County Medical Center Extended Care Unit, formerly of Coalmont, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at 8:30 a.m., at the Fulton County Medical Center. She had been in failing health for the past year. Born Sept. 3, 1900, in Riddlesburg, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and P. Alice (Hershey) Rabenstein. She was. united in marriage to Charles Edwards and later to Glenn Smith. They both preceded her in death. Surviving are the following children: Pete Rabenstein, Saxton, R.D.; Marie Kroh, Fayetteville; Sarah Hawkins, Harrisonville; and Aubrey Edwards, Akron, Ohio. There are 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Two sons, Arthur and John Edwards, and three grandchildren preceded her in death. Two brothers and nine sisters are deceased. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Raven Run Church of the Brethren. She was primarily a homemaker and retired from Bedford Springs Hotel after a number of years. Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 5, at 10:30 a.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor George Clippinger officiating. Interment will be made in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Cooks. Sara Mort CRAWFORD, 85, of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown, formerly of McVeytown and Mount Union, died at 6:10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at the nursing home. Born April 4, 1915, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Plummer and Cora (Dunmire) Ramsey. Her first husband, William T. Mort, died May 21, 1957. Her second husband, the Rev. Frank Crawford, died in May 1978. Surviving are three sons: Kenneth W. Mort, Conyers, Ga.; Robert T. Mort, Mifflintown, R.D. 1; and Raymond C. Mort, Pueblo West, Colo. There are 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. One sister, Mabel I. Bilger of Alexandria survives.. She was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn D. Ramsey, and four sisters: Ruth Mellott, Evelyn Gilbert, Pauline Gisewhite and Emma Lape. Mrs. Crawford was a homemaker and also worked as a self-employed seamstress. She was also a bookkeeper for 16 years at Raystown Fishing and Hunting. She was a member of the McVeytown United Methodist Church, where in her early years she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a former member of the Allenport United Methodist Church. Mrs. Crawford has served on the Mifflin County Board of Girl Scouts and was a charter member of the Mount Union Historical Society. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Marian E. Hartman officiating. Interment will be made in the Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown. Hazel Virginia (Miller) WATTS, 73, of Buck Run Road, Calvin, died at 8:05 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at her home in Union Township, Huntingdon County. Born June 28, 1927, in Fishertown, Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Elizabeth (Pyles) Miller. She was married to Richard A. Watts Dec. 21, 1945. Mr. Watts survives at their home, along with two sons and two daughters: Judith (Watts) Wanamaker, Kutztown; Stephen Curtis Watts, Easton; Beverly Watts, Warrington; and Lawrence Eugene Watts, Raleigh, N.C. There are six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Ernest Miller of Huntingdon Valley and Irvin Miller of Philadelphia, survive. Two half-sisters and a half-brother also survive: Patricia Ferguson, St. Clair, Mo; Bonnie Weimer, Stockton, Calif.; and Richard Reynolds, California. Mrs. Watts was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church, Portsmouth, Va. She retired in 1985, after 22 years of service, from Neshaminy Electronics, Furlong, where she had worked as a bookkeeper/office manager. Mrs. Watts was a member of the Professional Bowlers Association. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the Robert I. McClain Funeral Home, Cassville, with the Rev. Donald Henderson officiating. Robert Clayton RESSLER, 70, of Orbisonia, died at 2 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at his home in Cromwell Township. Born May 23, 1930, in Conshohocken, he was the son of the late Harry M. Sr. and Ethel (Sangrey) Ressler. He was married to Constance Y. Norris Sept. 24, 1983, in Orbisonia. Mrs. Ressler survives at home, along with two step-daughters: Vanessa Sue Stewart of Lewisberry ,and Georgella Frehn, Saltillo. There are two step-grandchildren. One brother, Harry M. Ressler Jr., of Manheim, survives. One sister, Evelyn M. Landis, is deceased. Mr. Ressler was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Orbisonia. He also belonged to the Broward Memorial Post No. 180, American Legion in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; American Legion Post No. 561, McConnellsburg; and VFW Post No. 5 154, Mount Union. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in the US Army from 1948-1953. Mr. Ressler retired in 1993 from Shaffer Trucking, New Kingston, where he had worked as a truck driver. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the Church of God of Prophecy, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Richard Sauls officiating. Interment will be made in the Mount Union Cemetery, Mount Union. The Fulton Honor Guard will provide military services at the Cemetery. Martha M. MAHNESMITH, 77, of Wood, formerly of Peoria, Ill., died at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at her residence. Her death was unexpected. Born Feb. 13, 1923, in Peoria, Ill., she was, the daughter of the late Jacob and Magdalena (Risius) Schear. She was the widow of Walter B. Wyss, who was killed in World War II. She then married Arthur G. Esert, who also preceded her in death. Her third union was to Owen Mahnesmith, who died Aptil 14, 1990. Surviving are two daughters and a son: Charlotte (Wyss) Bicking, Conrail, Texas; Loretta (Esert) Raycroft, Wood; and Paul Daniel Wyss, Pontiac, Mich. There are 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One sister and two brothers survive: Helen Owens, Glenco, Ill.; Bernard Schaer, Iowa; and Chris Schaer, Edwards, Ill. One sister and three brothers preceded her in death. Mrs. Mahnesmith attended Paraclete Ministries in Cassville and was a member of the Smithfield Bible Church in Illinois. She was primarily a homemaker. Funeral services will be held in Peoria, Ill., at a time to be announced. John Russell "Butch" WIKE, 58, of R.D. 2, Box 372, Petersburg, Logan Township, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at 7:30 a.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He had been in failing health. Born April 27, 1942, at the family home in Logan Township, Petersburg, he was the son of the late Russell Warren "Dub" Wike, and Florence Marie (Taylor) Wike, who survives at the family home. He was first married to Deborah A. Miller, who survives in McConnellstown. His second union was to Ruth E. Benson, who survives at her Mount Union home. Surviving along with his mother and wife, are three children: Jason A. Wike, Huntingdon; John Benson, Mount Union; and PFC Jesseica Benson, Fort Drum, N.Y. One step-daughter and one step-son survive: Chrystal Benson of Huntingdon and Brian Benson of Mount Union. There are five grandchildren. One son, Russell A. Wike, preceded him in death Dec. 18, 1994. One infant granddaughter, Jamie Wike, is also deceased. Two sisters survive: Connie M. Luckadoo of Hesston and Mrs. Jeffery (Shirley D.) Rupert, Huntingdon. Mr. Wike retired on disability in 1990, after working in various factory and construction jobs. He was also employed by his uncles for a number of years in the logging industry. He was a member of the Lighthouse Worship Center, Huntingdon. He also belonged to the Petersburg Sportsmen's Club and the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company. A lifetime resident of his family home in Logan Township, he attended the Juniata Valley schools. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Juniata Valley Chapel, 412 Main St., Alexandria, with the Rev. Donald E. Dick and Pastor Gordon A. Ross officiating. Interment will be made in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Petersburg. Louise F WHITE, 80, a resident of Manor Care Health Services, Chambersburg, formerly of Huntingdon, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at 3:40 p.m., at Manor Care Health Services. Born March 2, 1920, in Cassville, she was the daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Watkins) Sergeant. She was united in marriage to Robert D. White, who preceded her in death Oct. 5, 1994. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Nancy) Ebersole of Fayetteville, three grandchildren find three great-grandchildren. One son, Rodney Allen White, preceded her in death. Three sisters and two brothers survive: Leone Africa, Huntingdon; Mary Hardy, Alexandria; Esther Clark, Aston; Richard Steele, West Chester; and Earl Steele, Allentown. Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Mrs. White was a 1938 graduate of Huntingdon High School. She was primarily a homemaker and she had also been employed as a machine operator for nine years at Owens Coming Fiberglas. She was a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren in Huntingdon and enjoyed reading and knitting. Funeral services will be private, with the Rev. Leighton E. Smith officiating. Interment will also be private at the Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. William R. "Bill" FORTNEY, 74, of 1605 Ferguson Valley Road, McVeytown, died at 9:55 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Aug. 29, 1926, in Mount Union, he was the son of the late Ranels and Jennie C. (Sechrist) Fortney. His wife, Edna Jane (Pecht) Fortney, whom he married March 15, 1951, died Nov. 6, 1996. Surviving are: children, Martin L. Pecht, McVeytown RR1, Richard W. Fortney, Lewistown, and Mrs. Walter (Cindy) Chilcote, Mill Creek; brothers, Robert C. Fortney Sr. and Jack I. Fortney, both of Mount Union RR1; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson and a brother, Edward Fortney. He attended the Mount Union schools. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served on a destroyer in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He had formerly been employed by Pennsylvania Glass Sand, McVeytown and Harbison-Walker Brick Refractory, Mount Union for 27 years. He retired from US Sports, Huntingdon in 1988. He was Protestant by faith. He was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels in the Strodes Mills area. He was a lifetime member of the Newton Wayne Fire Co., Newton Hamilton and a member of the Mifflin County Fire Police. He enjoyed camping and fishing. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with Pastor Phyllis Hunter officiating. Interment will be in Newton Hamilton Memorial Cemetery. Robert Donald YOUNG, 87, of HCI, Cassville, died at 7:20 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at his home in Cass Township. Born Nov. 20, 1913, in Ranshaw, Northumberland County, he was the son of the late John Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Olley) Young. He was married to Freda Grace Barnett Oct. 13, 1938. Mrs. Young preceded him in death Oct. 28, 1984. Eight children survive: Gary L. Young, Todd; Donna 0. Cirko, Broad Top, R.D.; Robert F. Young, Cassville, R.D.; Glenn E. Young, James Creek, R.D.; Mary M.E. Young, Enola; John D. Young, Huntingdon, R.D. 3; Marlene K. Theys and Darlene F. Oswald, both of Todd. There are 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters. Mr. Young was a member of the Trough Creek, Valley Community Church, Broad Top, R.D. He also belonged to the Cromwell Lodge No. 572, Free and Accepted Masons, Orbisonia; Rocky Ridge Sportsman's Club and served as a former Todd Township School Board Member. Mr. Young worked as a Mess Sergeant at the former CCC camp in Todd Township and during World War II he worked at the Philadelphia shipyards. He also worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Highways and owned and operated Young's Economy Store in Todd. He retired in December 1985, after 29 years of service at postmaster in Todd. He was an avid hunter and sports fan. His favorite pastime was watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at the Robert I. McClain Funeral Home, Cassville, with the Rev. David Bailey and the Rev. Henry Theys officiating. Interment will be made in the Trough Creek Cemetery. Catherine E. NORRIS, 49, of P.O. Box 21, James Creek, died at 9:40 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital, Johnstown. Born April 2, 195 1, in Pottstown, she was the daughter of E. Lloyd Elvin, who survives in Elverson, and the late E. Jane (Buchanan) Elvin. She was united in marriage to Terry E. Norris, who survives at home. Four children survive: Michael T. Duck of James Creek, Tracy E. Foor of Hopewell, Theresa A. Duck of James Creek and Terra E. Norris of Roaring Spring. There are three grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister also survive: Edward L. Elvin and E. Lloyd Elvin Jr., both of Phoenix, Ariz., and Patricia J. Davis, Elverson. Mrs. Norris was of the Protestant faith. A 1969 graduate of Alhambra High School in Phoenix, Ariz., she was the owner of Duck Roofing and Tree Service in James Creek. She enjoyed cooking and dirt track racing with her son and husband at area tracks. Mrs. Norris v@as an organ donor. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m., at the Woodcock Valley Bible Church, James Creek, R.D. 1, with the Rev. George "Buddy" Baird officiating. Interment will be made in the Old Stone Church Cemetery, James Creek. Hershel E. RAABE, 61, of Warriors Mark died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at Altoona Hospital. Born Sept. 25, 1939, in Northwood, he was a son of the late George E. and Thyra Naylor Raabe. On May 22, 1967, in Spring Mount, he married Sally S. Kaufman, who survives at home. An Army veteran, he served from 1963 to 1965. In October 2000, he retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years of service. He was a member of Spring Mount Church of the Brethren, the Warriors Mark-Franklin Volunteer Fire Company and Fire Police, Central District Firemen's Association, Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Company and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Tyrone Lodge 212. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Becky Sue Raabe of Shippensburg; a son, James E. of Warriors Mark; two sisters, Janet Wemple of Danville and Sylvia Brosious of Sunbury; four grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. February 8 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ted J. Plott officiating. Burial will be in Spring Mount Cemetery. Geraldine L. BRODE, 62, of R.D. 1, Box 217, Saxton, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born May 11, 1938, she was the daughter of the late George and Myrtle (Potter) Foor. She was united in marriage to Robert L. Brode March 20, 1955, in Breezewood. He preceded her in death Dec. 16, 1987. Surviving are three sons: Arnold L. Brode of Saxton, R.D. 1, Robert D. Brode of Saxton and Randy L. Brode, of Saxton, R.D. 1. There are five grandchildren. An infant son preceded her in death. Two brothers and a sister survive: George Foor, Fowler, Ohio; Charles Foor, Huber Heights, Ohio; and Ruth McMeen, Niles, Ohio. Two brothers, Robert and Donald, are deceased. Mrs. Brode was a member of the Oasis of Love Church, Saxton, R.D., where she was active in church programs and served as elder. Interment will be made in the Rhoat Cemetery, Saxton, R.D. Joyce (Cummins) SNYDER, 71, of 70 Orchard Dr., New Martinsville, W.Va., died Feb. 6, 2001, at Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Nov. 5, 1929, in Petersburg, she was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Cummins and Rebecca (Irvin) Brownlee, and her husband, Richard P. Snyder. Surviving are ten children: Richard P. Snyder Jr., Summerville, S.C.; Stephen M. Snyder and Mrs. Michael B. (Cindy A.) Kocher, all of New Martinsville, W.Va.; Andrew T. Snyder, Opelika, Ala.; Daniel J. Snyder, New Martinsville, W.Va.; David L. Snyder, Charleston, S.C.; Robert M. Snyder, New Martinsville, W.Va.; Mrs. Tony (Rebecca S.) Blankenship, Cleveland, Ohio; and Matthew C. Snyder, New Martinsville. There are 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One sister, Bettianne Giffin of Camp Hill, survives. Mrs. Snyder attended the First Baptist Church and was a member of the Wetzel County Women's Democratic Club. She was a graduate of Alexandria High School and attended Juniata College. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, at 1:30 p.m., at the First Baptist Church, New Martinsville, W.Va. Leslie Eugene PALMER, 79, of 306 Claudine Drive, Anderson, S.C., died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at his home. Born Dec. 19, 1921, in Altoona, he was the son of the late Remick and Edna (Rohrer) Palmer. He was united in marriage to Pearl Litzenberg, who preceded him in death. One son, Robert Ray Palmer of Anderson, S.C., and a daughter, Lois (Palmer) Brown of Easley, S.C., survive, along with four grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Palmer was a 1939 graduate of Mount Union High School. He retired from the Anderson plant of Owens Corning Fiberglas as head of production planning. From 1961 until 1981, he worked in accounting. Mr. Palmer was a volunteer for the Anderson Free Clinic, tutored ai Homeland Park Elementary School, Kairos Prison Ministry and Emmas Community. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Anderson. Funeral services were held today St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Stephen Toth officiating. Interment was made in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson, S.C. Myrtle V. ROGERS, 72, of Three Springs, R.D. 1, died at 1:38 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born July 16, 1928, in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Emma (Cutshall) McConaughey. She was married to Joseph W. Rogers, who preceded her in death Jan. 3, 1991. Surviving are four children: Sandra McPherson, Mapleton; Ernie Rogers and Stephen Rogers, both of Three Springs; and Annette Holland, Chambersburg. There are four grandchildren. One brother, Ralph "Frank" McConaughey of Three Springs, R.D. 1, survives. A brother, John McConaughey, preceded her in death. Mrs. Rogers was of the Protestant faith. She was employed by Greif Brothers Manufacturing in Mount Union and later as a waitress at Grubb's Diner in Huntingdon and Hamman's Restaurant, Three Springs, until her retirement. She enjoyed reading, her dog, working with summer flowers, and spending time with her grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Joseph Barrett officiating. Interment will be made in the Three Springs Cemetery. William J. ULSH, 68, of 695 Eger Lane, Duncansville, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, in the emergency room of the Altoona Hospital. Born Oct. 27, 1932, in Altoona, he was the son of the late Clarence and Helen (Dixon) Ulsh. He was first united in marriage to Miki Loudenslager. He later married Joanne B. (Kyle) Snare Sept. 8, 1974, in McConnellstown. She preceded him in death May 19, 1987. Surviving are the following children: Diane Haynes, Hudson, Fla.; M. Christine Hyatt, Clearwater, Fla.; Joseph P. Ulsh, Duncansville, R.R.; and Thomas Ulsh, Hudson, Fla. There are four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren. One stepson, Robert W. Snare of Duncansville, R.R, survives. One stepson, Michael, died in 1981. Mr. Ulsh was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Altoona. He was the owner and operator of Rotary Gas Station in Altoona until 1973. From 1973 until 1992 he drove for Chemical Lehman and Tank Truck Rentals. A veteran of the US Army, he served during the Korean Conflict. For 25 years he was a driver for race modified and sprint cars. He was a member of the local Teamsters No. 110. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Sorge Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg, with Pastor James Crookston officiating. Interment will be in Carson Valley Cemetery. Alma P. (Mullen) BLACK, 87, of Autumn House at Powder Mill, York, formerly of Broad Top City, died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at the home, following a brief illness. Born July 30, 1913, in Dudley, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Annie (Stuller) Mullen. She was the widow of Victor S. "Dick" Black. Surviving are a son and a daughter-. Donald G. Black of Valdese, N.C.; a daughter, Ruth Anne Foore of York; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One sister, Veda Hartman of Buffalo, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews survive. Four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. Mrs. Black was a homemaker and a lover of birds and flowers and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and many friends. She was a member of the Church of God in Hagerstown, Md., and for most of her life she lived in the Broad Top area. She moved to York six months ago. FISHER, 84, of 648 Marina Lane, Tavares, Fla., formerly of Newton Hamilton and Mount Union, died at 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at his home. His death was unexpected. Born April 21, 1916, in Alexandria, he was the son of the late Newton and Susan E. (Bumgardner) Fisher. He was united in marriage to Mamie L. Enyeart Dec. 13, 1935. She preceded him in death July 3, 1996. Surviving are three children: Ned H. Fisher, Tavares, Fla.; Mrs. John (Janet) Fetrow, McVeytown, R.D. 1; and Carol Sue Poston, Tavares, Fla. There are 11 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren. One brother, Merle Fisher of Baltimore, Md., survives. Two brothers and three sisters are deceased. Mr. Fisher was of the Protestant faith. He was a life member of F&AM Lodge No. 109 Mystic Circle in Elkridge, Md., and the Fraternal Order of Police. He had been employed in law enforcement until his retirement. He had been chief of police in Williamsburg, guard for the Baltimore City Jail and security officer at Juniata College, Huntingdon. A veteran df World' War II, he served in the U.S. Army and the US Navy. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at the Robert D. Lawrence Arthur BANKS, 77, of Bisbee, Ariz., died at the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center Jan. 27, 2001. In 1964, he was the first person to survive the "Vineberg Surgery," a predecessor of the coronary bypass surgery. Born Sept. 17, 1923, in Mapleton, he was the son of the late Jay W. and Margaret (Jamison) Banks. On Nov. 12,1942, he married Kathryn Ruth Jane Dillen in Hagerstown, Md. They celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage. They moved from Huntingdon to Bisbee in 1957. Mrs. Banks died June 21, 1999. Two daughters, Nina S. Graeme of Bisbee and Mrs. Gregory (Barbara) Youngs of Silver City, New Mexico, survive, along with six grandchildren. One son, Larry D. Banks, died aboard the USS Tripoli in 1974. Mr. Banks' twin brother, Clarence A. Banks of James Creek survives, along with brothers Merrill Banks of Huntingdon, and Dallas Jay Banks of Sierra Vista, Ariz. One sister, Lillian Sheasley of Huntingdon, also survives. Mr. Banks attended the one-room school in Mapleton until the eighth grade. Self-employed, he worked as a painter and carpenter for many years. He was an employee of H.T. Reynolds and worked as a janitor at the Smithfield School. While in Arizona, he worked for Civil Service as a painter and carpenter for Fort Huachuca. He retired at the age of 39. Mr. Banks always kept busy with different projects, including making small pieces of furniture and museum-quality doll houses. His creative ability was unique and his generosity to help others was rare. His wry sense of humor and crooked smile will always be remembered. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Bisbee. Funeral services were held in Bisbee Feb. 3. Melvin J. "Mel" FULTZ, 61, of R.D. 2, Box 37-A, Huntingdon, died at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Dec. 3, 1939, in Derry Township, Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Milton and Mae (Rhea) Fultz. He is survived by the following siblings: William Fultz, Lewistown, R.D. 2; Ronald Fultz and David Fultz, both of Milroy; Mrs. Max (Frances) Hampton and Darwin G. Fultz, both of Granville. One sister, Beverly A. Hampton, preceded him in death. Mr. Fultz was a laborer for Fay L. Wagner Tire Company in Yeagertown, with 20 years of service. Gerald Ray PRICE, 70, of 9221 Cochise Lane, Port Richey, Fla., died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at his home. Born Aug. 28, 1930, in Kistler, he was a son of the late John and Lydia Price. His wife, Deloies, survives at home, along with two children: Pamela Flannelly and Jerry Lee Price. Mr. Price was of the Protestant faith. Funeral services were held in Florida. Mary E. HAULMAN, 88, of 8 Simpson Street, Huntingdon, died 12:55 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at her home. Her death was unexpected. She was born Oct. 17, 1912 in Orbisonia, the daughter of the late Frank and Minnie (Harris) Madden. She was united in marriage to Frank L. Haulman April 23, 1944 at the 15th Street United Methodist Church in Huntingdon. She was preceded in death by her husband June 4, 1984. She is survived by a sister, Beatrice Hampson of Rockhill Furnace and was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. Mrs. Haulman was a member of the 15th Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. She was a 1933 graduate of the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and then worked at J.C. Blair for 32 years as a registered nurse. She was an active member of the Wesley Crusaders Sunday School Class, the J.C. Blair Nurses Alumni Association, Order of the Eastern Star #159 and the Order of Amaranth #121. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Robert E. Nora (Christoff) BATALIS, 77, of 50 Taylor Apartments, Mount Union, died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at her home. Her death was unexpected. Born March 18, 1923, in Lucy Furnace, Mount Union, R.D. 1, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Diduch) Christoff. She was first married to Christos Papazis, who preceded her in death Oct. 25, 1943. Her second husband, Michael Batalis, died April 23, 1974. Three children survive: James Papas of Newark, Del.; Anthony Papazis of Long Island, N.Y., and Tina Bauerle of Princeton, N.J. There are seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Four sisters also survive: Mary Keib of Michigan, Jane Noske of California, Anne Shue of Texas, and Helen Christoff of Mount Union, R.D. 1. Mrs. Batalis was a member of the Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Mount Union. She was primarily a homemaker and was active in supporting church functions and loved to crochet and sew. Interment will be made in the Mount Union Cemetery. Raymond Monroe HENRY, 81, Fort Littleton, died at 10:30 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2001 at the Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown. Born June 6, 1919 in Clear Ridge, Fulton County, he was the son of the late Samuel Cleve and Myrtle (Shore) Henry. He was married to Dorothy M. (Regi) Henry on February 15, 1947. She survives at their home. Surviving are a son and two daughters: Greg Henry, Hustontown; Trudy Henry, Waynesboro and Mrs. John (Sheila) Burdge, Blairs Mills; six grandchildren: Lonnie, Mike, Jamie, Tish, Brie and Sage; two great-grandchildren: Arizona and Cainan; two brothers and a sister: Wendell Henry, Hustontown; Reed Henry, Camp Hill and Sarah Davis, Huntingdon. He was preceded in death by three brothers: John, Kenneth and Richard and several nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Fort Littleton Bible Church and the American Legion Post #561, McConnellsburg. He retired in June 1981 from the Forbes Road Elementary School, where he had worked as a janitor. He had previously been employed as a tunnel guard on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. In earlier years, he had worked as a shovel operator stripping coal in Somerset County. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army with the 704th Tank Destroyer Reconnaissance Company from May 1941 through October 1945. He served in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. His decorations and citations include Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Service Medal, and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four bronze stars. In his school years, he enjoyed basketball and track. In later years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 13 at the M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown. Pastor Deb Strait officiated. Burial was made in Clear Ridge Cemetery. The Fulton Honor Guard provided military services at the cemetery. Carolyn M. CONLON, 86, of 34 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Mount Union, died at 8:26 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. She had been in failing health. Born June 12, 1914, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry Marshall and Mary (Vanderpool) Anderson. She was married to Frederick Conlon, who preceded her in death Aug. 26, 1968. Surviving are two daughters: Helen L. DeVore of Alexandria and Deborah A. Grove of Mount Union. There are six grandchildren and five great-grandsons. One granddaughter is deceased. One brother, Harry Anderson of Mount Union, survives. Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Mrs. Conlon retired in 1980 from the Huntingdon Middle School, where she was employed as a cafeteria worker for 16 years. She was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church, Huntingdon. Interment was made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. Ruth C. (Lockard) CURRY, 84, of 12210 Loop Rd., South Mountain, died at 6:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, in Caledonia Manor, Fayetteville. She had been in failing health since September 1997. Born March 4, 1916, in Robertsdale, she was the daughter of the late George Sr. and Adaline (Roche) Lockard. She rnarried Delmont C. Curry in February 1954. He preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1971. She lived her early life in Robertsdale and moved to South Mountain in August 1942. She is survived by two sisters: Mildred Troy of Robertsdale and Elsie "Gussie" Huff of Ringgold, Md. Five nephews, seven grand-nephews and eight grand-nieces survive. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Florean Stevenson; and five brothers, Homer Lockard, Wilbert Lockard, George Lockard Jr., Dewayne Lockard and Deweese Lockard. Mrs. Curry did domestic work after graduating from high school until moving to South Mountain. There she worked at the Mont Alto Sanatorium, in the dietary department as a cook for doctors and nursing staff. She retired in 1978. She was a member of the Ringgold Church of Christ, Ringgold, Md., and the Good Neighbor Sunday School Class. She also attended services at the South Mountain Bible Church and the Robertsdale Church of God. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and shopping. MOORE, 69, of Rockhill Furnace, died at 7:21 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Sept. 2, 1931, in Blairs the daughter of the late Roy L. Biddle Sr. and Sara Mae (Fortney) Biddle Glenny.. She was reared in the home of her maternal, grandmother, the late Rettie Elizabeth Fortney of Blairs Mills. She was united in marriage to Nelson Moore Jr. July 28, 1950, in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Moore preceded her in death Aug. 16, 1982. Surviving are three children: Sally Jo Moore and Richard. N. Moore, both at home; and Michael P. Moore of HCR 60, Orbisonia, Blacklog Valley. There are five grandchildren. One brother, Roy L. Biddle Jr. of, Huntingdon, R.D. 3, also survives. Mrs. Moore was a member of the Rockhill Church of the Brethren and the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class and Prayer Chain of the church. She was also a member of the church choir for 25 years. Mrs. Moore was a lifelong member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Orbisonia Fire Company. She was employed by the Area Agency on Aging until her retirement in 1997. Frances (Harris) Kyle MINNICK, 88, a resident of The Oaks at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon, formerly of 1215 Washington St., Huntingdon, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Sept. 8, 1912, in Stuarts Draft, Va., she was a daughter of the late Spitler T. and Elizabeth (Brown) Harris. She was first married to Raymond E. Kyle and later to Charles Minnick. Both spouses preceded her in death. One son and daughter-in- law, Ronald L. and Jacquelyn Kyle, survive, along with a grandson, Ronald J. Kyle. Many loving nieces, nephews and cousins survive in Pennsylvania and Virginia. An infant daughter, Mary Darlene Kyle, preceded her in death, Two sisters and one brother are deceased: Marguerite (Harris) Brown, Mary (Harris) Shoemaker, and John S. Harris. One brother-in-law, James Shoemaker, survives. Mrs. Minnick was of the Christian faith and was baptized in the Church of the Brethren. She was a member and vice president of the Standing Stone Senior Citizens Center and served on many local boards, including the United Way, Tri-County Home Nursing Agency and Home Health Services of Huntingdon County. She was a member of several service organizations, including Women of the Moose Chapter No. 220; Auxiliary to the Standing Stone Post No. 1754, VFW; and Frank P. Hommon Post No. 24, American Legion. She retired from Mead Products after 43 years of service. While at Mead, Mrs. Minnick was president of the United Paperworkers International Union Local No. 1442, and treasurer of the United Labor Council of Huntingdon County. Born July 4, 1921, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Emory and Verna (Hawn) Muckle. She was united in marriage to Chester F. Emery Oct. 12, 1940. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister: Melvin Muckle, Norman Muckle and Erma Madden. Elizabeth GASTER, 83, of Columbia, died at 1:05 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Saint John's Herr Estate Retirement Community, Columbia. Born July 26, 1917, in Wells Township, Fulton County, she was a daughter of the late Harry H. and Jessie B. (Gress) Gaster. She is survived by a niece and a gra nephew. One brother, Ernest Gaster, and a twin sister, Mary Rebecca Gaster, preceded her in death. Ms. Gaster received her bachelor's degree in rural education from Millersville State College and her master's degree in school administration from Bucknell University. She taught school in the Everett Area School District in Bedford County and Southern Huntingdon County School District. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Columbia, and the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. She was a life member of the National Education Association. Richard Geib, officiating. Margie K. COLEMAN, 78, of 145 Shadyside Dr., Hopewell, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at 2:33 p.m., at her home, following an extended illness. Born Oct. 4, 1922, in Hopewell, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Dorothy (Reed) Keifman. She was united in marriage to George M. Coleman Jr. Jan. 27, 1968, in Elkton, Md. He preceded her in death Nov. 23, 2000. One stepson, Gary Coleman of Baltimore, Md., survives, along with two step-grandchildren. Two sisters, Gloria Mellott of Hopewell, with whom she resided, and Mrs. Albert (Lorraine) Phipps, Six Mile Run, survive. One brother, Robert Keifman, preceded her in death. Mrs. Coleman was of the Lutheran faith. A 1942 graduate of Robert P. Smith High School in Yellow Creek, she was a social caseworker for 25 years for the State of Maryland. She retired in 1980. Interment will be made in the Hopewell Cemetery. Irene (Mohler) GROVE, 94, of Anchorage, Ky., died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at 12:05 a.m., in Louisville, Ky. Born June 21, 1906, in Ephrata, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Lillie (Smith) Mohler. She was united in marriage to John Donelson Grove Jr. March 3, 1934, in York. Mr. Grove preceded her in death. One daughter and one son survive: Mrs. Paul R. (Sally) Brink, Anchorage, Ky.; and John D. Grove III, Altoona. There are nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. James (Ruth) Vorosmarti of Palmerton survive. Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Mrs. Grove was a member of the Anchorage Presbyterian Church and was a former member of the Abbey Reformed Church, United Church of Christ, Huntingdon. She also belonged to the American Association of University Women and was a former member of the Standing Stone Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Grove was educated in the public schools of Ephrata and graduated from Ephrata High School in 1924. A 1931 graduate of Juniata College, she taught in the Huntingdon public schools and worked as a private kindergarten teacher. A memorial service will be held at the Anchorage Presbyterian Church, Anchorage, Ky., Saturday, Feb. 24, at noon, with the Rev. Dee W. Wade officiating. Catherine (Cook) HOUCK, 88, of Porter Township, R.D. 1, Box 67, Alexandria, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at 2:27 a.m., at her residence. She had been in failing health for the past several years. Born June 11, 1912, in Broad Top City, she was a daughter of the late John Isaac and Julie (Burke) Cook. She married Marshall E. Houck June 25, 1932, in Dudley, with the Rev. Houghton officiating. Mr. Houck preceded her in death in January 1983. Two daughters and one son survive: JoEllen (Houck) Houp, Huntingdon; Audrey J. Houck, Alexandria, R.D. 1; and Marshall E. Houck Jr., Stewartstown. There are nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. One son, John C. Houck, is deceased. One brother and three sisters preceded her in death: James Cook, Margaret Cook, Agnes Roseborough and Eleanor Cook. Mrs. Houck was a member of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Huntingdon. She attended the Broad Top public schools and was primarily a homemaker. She had been a resident of Huntingdon County since birth and had lived at her current residence for 55 years. She enjoyed watching birds, flower gardening and activities with her grandchildren. She was a mother and a friend to all. RUNK, 67, of HCR 1, Broad Top, died at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at his home in Todd Township, Huntingdon County. His death was unexpected Born March 11, 1933, in Mount Union, he was a son of the late Grover and Pearl (Scott) Runk. He was married to Freda G. Curfman Nov. 28, 1953, in Cassville. Mrs. Runk survives at home, along with three children: Duane Runk, Dennis Runk and Susan Berzansky, all of HCR 1, Broad Top. There are ten grandchildren. One son, Dale, is deceased. Three brothers survive: Glenn Runk, HCR 1, Broad Top; Earl Runk, Marklesburg; and Lester Runk, Cassville, R.D. One brother, Norman Runk, and a sister, Orma Runk, preceded him in death. Mr. Runk was a charter member of the Trough Creek Valley Community Church, HCR 1, Broad Top, and the Trough Creek Valley Volunteer Fire Company. He was the owner and operator of Ralph Runk Excavating in Broad Top for the past 35 years. He was also involved in farming. She was united in marriage to S. Ray Barley, who preceded her in death in 1989. Surviving are two sons, Fred C. Barley of Seattle, Wash., and Kenneth E. Barley of Denver, Colo. There are six grandchildren. Two sisters, Margaret R. Strong of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Henry (Estella Z.) Stoudt of Petersburg, R.D., survive. One sister and three brothers preceded her in death. Mrs. Barley was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Eustis, Fla. She was a member of Grange Association in New York and Florida. She was primarily a homemaker. Mrs. Barley lived in Buffalo, N.Y.i for over 35 years and retired in Florida in 1967. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Eustis, Fla. Interment will be made in the Slate Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, R.D. Dorothy E. BOHER, 95, formerly of Lemoyne, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at the Harrisburg Hospital. Born May 22, 1905, in Shippensburg, she was a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Duffy) Boher. She is survived by cousins in Three Springs, Rockhill, Cassville, Orbisonia, Mill Creek and Smithfield. Ms. Boher was a graduate of the former Lemoyne High School and retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. She was a member of the Lemoyne Senior Citizens and was of the Protestant faith. Interment will be made in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Township. Arvelia Gertrude Howerton BYRD, 64, of Philadelphia, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, following an extended illness. Born Oct. 23, 1936, in Kistler, she was the daughter of the late Girtha and Daniel Howerton. Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Givens of Philadelphia, and two granddaughters. Two brothers, Cloyd and Richard, both of Huntingdon, also survive. Five sisters-in- law, one brother-in-law and several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph, a sister, Edna, and a stepfather, Paul Bullett Sr. Her family attended the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Huntingdon, where she was baptized. Following graduation from high school, she moved to Philadelphia in 1955, to pursue broader horizons. Mrs. Byrd held various positions after moving to Philadelphia. She worked at the McNeil Pharmaceutical Healthcare Company for 24 years, until the time of her illness. In addition to her work, she had many interests. Early on, she developed an interest in participating in politics as a way of fostering change. She served in the early campaigns of John White Jr. and Charles Bowser, as well as in the campaigns of W. Wilson Goode. She also served as an integral part of the Dwight Evans campaign. As part of this work, she served in a volunteer capacity as the election day coordinator for State Representative Evans and the Tenth Ward Democratic Committee. She was one of the original members of the Friends of Ogontz Avenue Revitalization Corporation. She played an active role in fostering the growth of the West Oak Lane community. Her passion for her heritage helped shape and develop the four-day West Oak Lane Community Festival and the original Avenue of the Arts celebration which focused on African-American culture, including art, dance, music and dress. She also organized the Super Saturday Parade that evolved from a small celebration to a very successful, large event. Mrs. Byrd was also an active board member of the Presbytery of Philadelphia. She also served on the Youth and Risk Committee and was involved with the Black History Honor Celebration at McNeil Company. Funeral services were held Feb. 8, in Philadelphia. Mary Revenna (Newcombe) LEWIS, 95, of 200 Saint Francis Dr., Bradford, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at 9:19 p.m., at her residence. She had been in failing health for the past year. Born Dec. 11, 1905, in Morrisdale, Clearfield County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Maxwell and Jane Ann (Iveson) Newcombe. She was united in marriage to John Henry Lewis Jr. Oct. 6, 1934, at Chelsea Presbyterian Church, New York, N.Y., by the Rev. Thomas H. Whepley. Mr. Lewis preceded her in death March 9, 1987. Two brothers, Robert Anthony Newcombe of Bradford and George Porter Newcombe of Bridgewater, N.J., survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers: James Iveson Newcombe and John William Newcombe. Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Emanuel United Church of Christ in Irvington, N.J. She was active in her church as an elder. She was also an active member of the Shut In Society, Inc., of New York and the Humane Society. From June 1929 until her retirement in June 1948, she worked as a kindergarten teacher at the Madison Avenue School in Irvington, N.J. She graduated from Lock Haven Normal School with a teaching certificate in kindergarten and elementary education with the Class of 1929. She had been a resident of Irvington, N.J., from 1928 until moving to her current residence in Bradford in 1998. Mrs. Lewis enjoyed needlecrafts and was a champion of animal rights. WRIGHHT Jr., 92, of Acme, R.D. 1, formerly of Greensburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital. Born Sept. 19, 1908, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Charles C. and Mary (Watson) Wright. His wife, the former Goldie Marker, preceded him in death. One daughter, Mrs. Frank (Mary Ann) Salotti of Acme, R.D. 1, survives, along with two grandchildren. Mr. Wright was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greensburg and was a 25-year member of Westmoreland Lodge No. 518, Greensburg. Jr. and Ruth E. Cella Myers of Spruce Creek. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Debra Wilson of Petersburg; two brothers, Dave W. Myers of Tyrone and John D. Elizabeth Jane NEARHOOF, 84, of Epworth Manor, Tyrone, where she had resided since 1999, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, a 7:05 a.m., at the manor. Born Nov. 30, 1916, in Warriors Mark, she was a daughter of the late J. Ernest and Alma Keith (Buck) Nearhoof She never married. She is survived by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Two brothers, Scott Ernest and George Levi Nearhoof, preceded her in death. Ms. Nearhoof was a member of the following organizations: National City Christian Church of Washington, D.C.; past secretary of Warriors Mark Fire Company Auxiliary and Warriors Mark Senior Citizens; Star Bible Class of the Warriors Mark United Methodist Church; past treasurer of United Methodist Women of the Warriors Mark United Methodist Church, where she was a member; Standing Stone Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution in Huntingdon; Tyrone Chapter of AARP; Huntingdon County Historical Society; Blair County Genealogical Society; and the Alumni Association of State Teachers College in Springfield, Mo. She attended the one-room school in Spring Mount, Huntingdon County. She graduated from Warriors Mark-Franklin Consolidated High School, Class of 1934, where her nickname was "Busy Bee." She received her bachelor's degree in education in 1937, from the State Teachers College in Springfield, Mo., and did her graduate work at Penn State University and Columbia University, New York. Ms. Nearhoof held a lifetime certificate to teach in the state of Missouri and taught high school there after graduating from college. She served as a teacher's aide at Warriors Mark Elementary School and was Home Management Supervisor for Farm Security Administration in Pennsylvania. During World War II, she was on the American Red Cross staff at Army/Navy General Hospital, Hot Springs, Ark. She also served as intelligence clerk for the Navy and Army in Washington, D.C. In other roles, she was a secretary in the Department of Theater Arts at Penn State University; director of YWCA Youth Center, Pittsburgh; and in 1968, she was the secretary of the Warriors Mark Bicentennial Committee. For 34 years, she wrote a column about the Warriors Mark area, which appeared in The Tyrone Herald. In 1968, at the time of the Warriors Mark Bicentennial, she published her book titled "ECHOES from Warriors Mark and Surrounding Areas." The publication of this book earned her a Certificate of Commendation from the Association of State and Local History. She was a lifetime resident of the Warriors Mark area, except during her collegiate years and the number of years she taught in Missouri. HOFFMAN, 76, of 107 S. llth St., Huntingdon, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at 8:15 a.m., at her home. Born July 22, 1924, in Saxton, she was a daughter of the late Albert J. and Pauline (Price) Hollingshead. She was first married to John R. Quinn, who preceded her in death July 31, 1969. Her second husband, Robert H. Hoffman Sr., survives at their home. Two children, Mrs. David (Sandy) Hollingshead of Belleville and Robert Stephen Quinn of Huntingdon, R.D. 3, survive. One step-son, Robert H. Hoffman Jr., lives in Saltillo. There are four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Chris David Hollingshead. One brother, Albert J. Hollingshead Jr. of Ohio, and a sister, Mrs. John (Jean) Suter of Elyria, Ohio, survive. A brother, Robert H. Jack FORSYTHE, 85, of 918 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, died at 7:56 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Med- ical Center, Oakland, Pittsburgh. Born Oct. 12, 1915, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Oliver and Ada (King) Forsythe. Surviving are six children: Bernard Forsythe of Elizabeth; Jody Forsythe of Boalsburg; Sandra K. Banks of Mill Creek; Mona L. Owens of Windber; Edward L. Stull Jr. of Shirleysburg; and Cathy Harris of Camp Hill; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion, Emma R. Stull. He was preceded in death by 17 brothers and sisters. Mr. Forsythe was of the Protestant faith. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during WW II in the European, African, Middle Eastern Theatre of Operations with the 9222nd Transportation Corps as an automotive mechanic. He received the WW II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Mill Creek Volunteer Fire Company. Mr. Forsythe was employed by Jerry Grubb, Irvin Aronson, Laney's Feed Mill, Kann Brothers and Delta Sanitation. He retired in 1979. He attended the public schools of Pricedale. Interment will be made at the Riverview Cemetery. Martha Marie McGEARY, 80, formerly of Huntingdon, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Locust Grove Retirement Center, Mifflin. Born May 5, 1920, in Williamsburg, she was the daughter of the late Grant E. and Beryl E. (Ressler) Clapper. She was survived by two brothers, John W. Clapper of Huntingdon and Grant C. Clapper of Kosta Sweden and two sisters, Jessie C. Thompson of Huntingdon, R.R. 3 and Mary K. Senecal of Portland, Ore. Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. Ms. McGeary was a member of the Trinity Assembly of God Church, Huntingdon. She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Shaver's Creek Volunteer Fire Company. Ms. McGeary was a housekeeper and nanny for the Smith family in State College for a number of years. She also worked at McClanahan's in State College at one time. Interment will be made in the Williamsburg Lutheran Cemetery. Martin A. SUOMELA,63, of Petersburg died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at James E. VanZandt Veterans Administration Medical Center in Altoona. Born March 14, 1937, in Duluth, Minn., he was a son of Fannie Hyry Suomela of North Branch, Minn., and the late John Albert Suomela. On Oct. 30, 1965, in Conklin, N.Y., he married Lelia W. Dawes, who survives at home. He received an associate's degree in business administration from Keystone Junior College. A Navy veteran, he served in Korea and Vietnam, retiring after 20 years as senior chief hospital corpsman in 1974. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Civil Action Medal (with Palm), the Good Conduct Award (Fifth), the Navy Unit Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal. He was the former medical administrator for the State Correctional Institution in Huntingdon. He was a Lutheran and member of the Huntingdon Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cloyd K. Davis Post 150 American Legion in Petersburg, Disabled American Veterans, Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company Catering Club and the Retired Enlisted Association, of which he was treasurer. Following retirement, he enjoyed traveling, reading, watching historical events and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Christopher of Tyrone and David of Frederick, Md.; a sister, Corinne Landro of North Branch, Minn.; a brother, John W. of Arlington, Va.; and three grandchildren. Edith Audrey LALLI, 73, of 1025 Washington St., Huntingdon, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at 5:07 p.m., at Huntingdon Manor. Born April 4, 1927, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Hannah (Forshey) Criswell. She was united in marriage to Joseph Lalli May 4, 1947, at the Twelfth Street United Methodist Church, by the Rev. G.C. Kelly. Mr. Lalli survives at home, along with three daughters: Darla Lalli, Huntingdon; Lennie Thompson, Petersburg; and Carla Jo Lalli, Huntingdon. There are six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lalli was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was of the Protestant faith. Born Oct. 7, 1935, in Ramey, she was a daughter of the late William F. and Verna M. (Henderson) Davensizer. She married Thomas R. Bookhamer Sept. 25, 1954, in Juniata. Surviving along with her husband are two sons and a daughter: Thomas W. Bookhamer of Claysburg; Todd R. Bookhamer at home; and Melissa K. Reed of Reightown. There are four granddaughters. A brother and four sisters survive: William R. Davensizer of Reightown; Joan Hampton, Janet Ardizzone and Dianne Good, all of Juniata; and Beverly Thomas, Bellwood. Mrs. Bookhamer was employed as a wrapper in the meat department at Wissinger Grocery in Bellmeade and previously at Butterick Corp. and A&P Foods. She was a member of the Bellwood Church of the Brethren, where she sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Altoona Chapter No. 68, Order of the Eastern Star, the Bellwood Community Choir and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Born March 1, 1928, in Cass Township, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Oliver M. and Margie (Saylor) Stapleton. She was united in marriage to Cloyd Roland Nov. 27, 1953, in Winchester, Va. Mr. Roland survives at home, along with two children, Sandy Erwin of Calvin and James Roland of HC 1, Huntingdon, and three grandchildren. Also surviving are three siblings: Elwood Stapleton of Cassville and Nelda Stapleton and Geraldine Bertres, both of HC 1, Huntingdon., One brother, Oliver Jay, is deceased. GUYLER, 71, a resident of Havertown for 42 years, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at the Masonic Home, Lafayette Hill. Born Feb. 28, 1929, in Duncannon, he was a son of the late Charles Raymond and Esther Ellen (Manning) Guyler. He married Virginia M. "Ginny" Morrow, who preceded him in death Aug. 16, 1995, after 43 years of marriage. Surviving are three daughters: Kathie Guyler, Richmond, Ind.; Mary Marlowe, Cairo, Egypt; and Margie (Guyler) Hamilton,, Philadelphia. There are five grandchildren. Two sisters, Frieda Topper and Romaine Black, both of Mount Union, survive. Mr. Guyler was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Manoa, Havertown, where he was a former trustee. He was the owner and operator of Exxon stations for 40 years, mainly at State and Lansdowne avenues, Drexel Hill for 20 years. Prior locations included Bryn Mawr and City Line avenues, Philadelphia for five years. He was a 50-year member of the Mount Union Lodge No. 688 and the Independent Dealers Association. Born Nov. 16, 1905, in Spruce Creek, she was a daughter of the late Oscar Jay and Ida May (Miller) Graffius. She was united in marriage to Thomas P. Davis April 17, 1954, at the Presbyterian Church in State College, by the Rev. Andrew E. Newcomer. He preceded her in death June 24, 1990. Several nieces and nephews survive. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters: Homer Graffius, Mrs. Paul (Charlotte) Henry; Mrs. Harry (Mildred) Carper; Mrs. Charles (Olive V.) Burket. Mrs. Davis was a member of the Lower Spruce Creek Presbyterian Church, Spruce Creek. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Hartslog Heritage Museum, Alexandria; Owens Corning Fiberglas Club; Auxiliary to the William P. Spyker Post No. 520, American Legion, Alexandria; Ladies Auxiliary of the Alexandria Fire Department; Petersburg Area Homemakers; and Ladies Auxiliary of the Lower Spruce Creek Presbyterian Church, Spruce Creek. She was an elementary school teacher in the public schools of the Juniata Valley area for 39 years. She graduated from Huntingdon High School and Indiana Normal College, now Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She had been a resident of Huntingdon County her entire life. Born Aug. 29, 1929, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Gingerich and Mary (Shaffer) Greene. Surviving are three daughters and two sons: Vicki Schindel, Hagerstown, Md.; Jacki Coyle, Severna Park, Md.; Peggy Ludwig, Rome, N.Y.; Mike Coyle and Thom Coyle, both of Roanoke, Va. There are seven grandchildren. Mrs. Coyle was a 1947 graduate of Huntingdon High School. She was a former employee of MCI in medical records and was co-owner of Coyle Furniture Company. She was born Nov. 27, 1940, in New Jersey, a daughter of the late Samuel Rosensteel, formerly of Mount Union, and Dorothea P. Phillips of New Jersey. Mrs. Gore was an employee at Southside Community Hospital Emergency Room. She is survived by a son, William H. Gore of Concord, Calif., a daughter, Leslie Gore Porowski of Berkeley, Calif. and two grandsons. A sister of Darlington Heights also survives. GROSE, 77, formerly of Huntingdon, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Hospice House Woodside, The Villa, in Pinellas Park, Fla. Born Dec. 7, 1923, in Maitland, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Elsie Ellen (Ebersole) Shultz. She was united in marriage to Richard Owen Grose May 28, 1974, in Greensburg. He preceded her in death Dec. 6, 1989. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Grose was art office worker for the Federal Department of Agriculture in Huntingdon and Greensburg. She enjoyed cooking and baking. SLAGLE, 75, of 7 Aspen St., Elysburg, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Shamokin Area Community Hospital. Born Nov. 30, 1925, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Harry and Mary (Lewis) Slagle. He married the former Violet R. Povcevich Nov. 30, 1957, in St. Anthony's Church, Ranshaw. She preceded him in death Jan. 5, 1990. One son, Mark Slagle of Elysburg survives, along with two grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters: Ethel Houck, Williamsburg; Emma Stull, Huntingdon; and Hazel Smith, York. There are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: Cora, Bert, Pat, Evelyn and Ruthie. Mr. Slagle was a graduate of Huntingdon High School and Temple University in Philadelphia. For 30 years, he was a quality assurance manager for the Arcos Corporation. He was a very active member of the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, Elysburg, where he taught Sunday School, confirmation classes and was the scoutmaster for the parish Boy Scout Troop No. 266. He also coached baseball for the Elysburg Team, was a Ralpho Township supervisor for eight years and was past treasurer of the All Home Association of Ralpho Township. Born May 1, 1915, at Roaring Spring, R.D., she was a daughter of the late Jesse W. and Blanche (Brown) Pote. She married Walter L. Hoover Sept. 9, 1937, in Roaring Spring. He preceded her in death Nov. 14, 1986. Two brothers, Stanley Pote of Huntingdon and George Pote of Camp Hill survive, along with several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hoover was a member of the Albright Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring, R.D. She retired in 1982 from the Spring Cove School District, after 41 years of service in the school cafeteria. She began her career in 1941 as a cook at the Taylor School. In 1960, she was promoted to supervisor of the New Central High School Cafeteria in Martinsburg, and in 1969, she was named district manager of all cafeterias in the Spring Cove School District. Previously she was employed as a cook at the former Eldon Inn of Roaring Spring. Mrs. Hoover was a 1935 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg. (Hartman) ORR, 70, of 79 Chadwick Dr., Greeneastle, died at 6:42 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon, where she had resided since Feb. 16, 2001. Born Aug. 2, 1930, in Clay Hill, Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late W. Milton and Amy Catherine (Horst) Hartman. She married Robert L. Orr Sr., who preceded her in death Feb. 26, 1993. Surviving are a son and a daughter, Robert L. Orr Jr. of Huntingdon and Tammy M. Dickson of Greencastle, along with four grandchildren. One sister, Mildred L. Fuss of Greencastle, also survives, along with a number of nieces and nephews. A brother, Wayne E. "Hucks" Hartman preceded her in death Dec. 31, 1997. In her earlier years, Mrs. Orr worked at the former Fairchild Industries in Hagerstown, Md. Later she worked as a teacher's aide for the Greencastle-Antrim School District for 25 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greencastle and the Second Milers Sunday School Class. She was also, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post No. 6319 and the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post No. 373, both of Greencastle. She also belonged to the Five Hundred Card Party Club; was a member and active volunteer of the Greencastle Senior Center; helped with the Greencastle Meals on Wheels programs; and was a member of the Greencastle AARP Chapter No. 3025 and the National AARP. Mrs. Orr was a participant of the 2000 American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Greencastle and the local Y-Me Cancer Survivors Support Group. She was a 1948 graduate of Greencastle High School. Ruth Elizabeth STAKE, 90, a resident of Shippensburg Health Care Center, Shippensburg, since April 1996, and formerly of Saltillo, died at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at the health care center. Born April 22, 1910, in Saltillo, she was the daughter of the late Nayumn and Rachel Alice (Dolan) Cutshall. She was married to Edgar Covert Stake May 7, 1938. He preceded her in death July 14, 1995. Two sons and one daughter survive: Ronald E. Stake of Fayetteville, Linda Stake Roher of Carlisle and David A. Stake of Buford, Ga. There are ten grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. WILSON, 85, of US Highway 522 South, McVeytown, and a guest of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, died at 10:07 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Oct. 18, 1915, in Three Springs, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Vergie (Snyder) Wible. Her husband, Eugene Wilson, died May 21, 1981. She is survived by two sons, Robert E. Ronald Wilson, Ridge Side Acres, Lewistown; brother and sister, Homer Wible, Three Springs and Mrs. George (Marie) Nauss, Bainbridge; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Walter F. BRAUN, 88, of State College, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, in Walker Townhsip, Huntingdon County. Born May 12,1912, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Frank and Louise (Platz) Braun. He married Lois L. Lonberger May 20, 1944. Mrs. Braun survives at home, along with three daughters and a son: Susan J. Braun, State College; Harriet L. Braun, Flagstaff, Ariz.; Katherine Farrell, Marblehead, Mass.; and Frederick Braun, Fort Collins, Colo. There are six grandchildren. A graduate of Boys High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., he attended City College of New York and received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Johns Hopkins University. He was an aeronautical engineer in ballistic research for the U.S. Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, retiring in 1975. He enjoyed carving waterfowl and shore birds from wood, gardening, playing chess and spending time at his cabin "Glow-Worm." LANTZ Sr., 60, of R.D. 2, Box 471, Mount Union, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. He was born June 21, 1940, in Allenport, the son of the late Harry Leroy and Agnes G. (McGee) Lantz. He married Viola Rhodenizer May 17, 1958, in Newton Hamilton, with the Rev. Samuel R. Kissel presiding. He is survived by his wife at home. He is also survived by three children: Lewis A. Lantz Jr. of Mapleton; Tracy L. Lantz of Mapleton and Reneya D. Lantz of Mount Union, R.D. 2. Dorothy Isabelle ENTREKIN, 91, of Entriken, R.D. 1, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at 10:15 a.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. She had been in failing health for several months. Born May 29, 1909, Entriken, she was the daughter of the late Harrison and Martha (Cunningham) Hess. She was united in marriage to Horatio Trexler Entrekin Feb. 25, 1929, in Cumberland, Md. He preceded her in death Oct. 27, 1964. One son, Donald E. Entrekin of New Hampshire, survives, as do three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Three brothers, Herman Hess, Glen Hess and Roy Hess, are deceased. Mrs. Entrekin was a member St. Matthew's United Church of Christ, Entriken. She was primarily a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting. Former Huntingdon resident, Edmund E. MINAYA, 82, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001. He was living in Pembroke Pines, Fla., at the time of his death and had resided there since 1969. He was born in New York City, the son of John D. and Theresa Minaya of Potenza, Italy. Mr. Minaya is survived by his former wife, Joanne R. Minaya, of Huntingdon and sons Roderick E. of Harrisburg, Jed V. of Mechanicsburg and Curt V. of Binghamton, N. Y. Mr. Minaya spent most of his life in the publishing business. He worked in New York and Chicago as Midwest manager for The Journal of Commerce. In 1969, he launched a weekly newspaper, The Mirror, in Miramar, Fla. Subsequently, he was active in civic affairs and was the founding president of the Miramar-Pembroke Pines Chamber of Commerce. In recent years, he sold commercial real estate in the Miami area. He was a tail-gunner in World War II for the U. S. Army Air Corps. Mr. Minaya was a 1942 graduate of Juniata College where he excelled. He was voted one of "Twelve Outstanding Seniors" for academic achievement and was captain of Juniata's baseball team where he pitched. Mr. Minaya held various business positions while a Huntingdon borough resident. He was one of the original announcers that The Daily News publisher, John H. Biddle, recruited when radio station WHUN was founded in 1947. Eugene W. "Mike" PARSONS, 68, of Greenwood, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Vencor Hospital, Greenwood, Ind. Born Nov. 15, 1932, in Mount Union, he was a son of the late L. Fred and Charlotte (Wilson) Parsons. He married Estella Ross Oct. 13, 1956, in Indianapolis, Ind., who preceded him in death. Two sons, Michael of Greenwood, Ind., and Samuel of Whiteland, Ind., survive, along with three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two brothers, Glen Parsons of Mount Union and Ned Parsons of Raleigh, N.C., survive. He was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Parsons. Mr. Parsons was CEO/owner of Thermal King Refrigeration in Indianapolis, Ind. He retired in 1990. Between 1954-1956. he worked for J.D. Adams in Indianapolis. He was a member of the Antelope Club of Indianapolis, where he served as past president; was chairman of Thermal King Dealer advisory board and belonged to several sportsmen's clubs. He was a 32nd degree member of Murat Temple, Indianapolis, Ind., and was active with the Republican party. A 1950 graduate of Mount Union High School, he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 until 1954, during the Korean War. RITCHEY, 76, of 1007 Sixth St., Saxton, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at 11:56 a.m., at his home, following an extended illness. Born April 4, 1924, in Saxton, he was a son of the late David F. and Margaret (Williams) Ritchey. He was first united in marriage to Mildred C. Freidhof Nov. 29, 1945, at the Immaculate Conception Church, Dudley, by the Rev. Bernard Conley. She preceded him in death Jan. 15, 1979. He later married Rosalie Luther Feb. 11, 1984. She preceded him in death May 10, 1985. Surviving are the following children: Elizabeth Ann Busick, Saxton; Katherine Foster, Dudley; Jane Brown, Saxton, R.D., Robert V. Ritchey, Saxton; Mrs. Barry (Mary) Hinkle, Saxton, R.D.; Mrs. Barney (Susan) Ross, Hopewell; Mrs. Matt (Elaine) Meck, James Creek, R.D.; and Mrs. Ashley (Linda) Crocker, Saxton, R.D. One stepson, John R. Luther of Saxton, survives. One granddaughter, Martha Ritchey of Dudley, was reared in his home. There are 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two step- grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. One step-great-granddaughter is deceased. A sister, Martha Eisenhuth of Henderson, N.C., survives. He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Bill H. Ritchey, and a sister, Marvid Fluke. Mr. Ritchey was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Dudley. A 1942 graduate of Saxton-Liberty High School, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the 437th Troop carrier group. FISHER, 93, a resident of Homewood Retirement Center, Martinsburg, formerly of James Creek, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at 5:45 p.m., at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring. Her death was unexpected. Born April 6, 1907, in Riddlesburg, she was a daughter of the late Avery and Mary (Stapleton) Baker. She was united in marriage to David P Fisher May 31, 1935, in Altoona. He preceded her in death May 28, 1983. One son, James R. Fisher, of Colonial Beach, Fla., survives. Two brothers, Ed Baker of South Carolina, and Avery "Jack" Baker of Huntingdon, survive. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Baker, and a sister, Phyllis Tanner. Mrs. Fisher was of the Methodist faith. REDZENSKY, 84, of Houtzdale, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at the Altoona Hospital Center for Nursing Care. Born Jan. 7, 1917, he was the son of Anthony and Mary (Matchock) Redzensky. He married Cathleen Ann Kowalcyk Oct. 12, 1953. Surviving, along with his wife, are four sisters: Mrs. Edwin (Mary) Frank, Houtzdale; Mrs. Dale (Josephine) Wetherson, Ramey; Mrs. Glenn (Martha) Huber, Altoona; and Mrs. Robert (Ann) Galvin, East Lake, Ohio. A brother- and sister-in-law survive in Huntingdon, along with a nephew in Alexandria and several nieces and nephews. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death: Frank, John, Joseph, Thomas, Helen and Frances. Mr. Redzensky was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in Papua, Guadalcanal, New Guinea, Northern Solomons and Bismark- Archipelago. He received the following citations: American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with Silver Service Star, and Victory Medal for World War II. He retired from Penn State University, where he worked for many years in the maintenance department. A funeral Mass was held at the Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale. Marsha Lou SINGER, 47, of Main Street, Alexandria, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at noon, at her home in Alexandria, following an extended illness. Born July 18, 1953, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Harry F. Lightner and Verna L. (Cutshall) Lightner, who survives in Alexandria. One son and a daughter survive: James S. Singer II and Julie E. Shirk, both of Alexandria. There are two grandchildren. A brother and five sisters also survive: William F. Lightner, Petersburg; Mrs.George (Jean L.)Mills, Alexandria; Connie L. Espy, Spruce Creek; Mrs. Richard (Betty A.) Roland, Petersburg; Mrs. Robert (Diane K.) Weyer, Petersburg; and Mrs. Randall (Linda L.) Yocum, Mount Union. A 1971 graduate of Juniata Valley High School, Mrs. Singer had been employed for a number of years at the Seton Corporation in Saxton, where she had worked in production and stitching leather car seats. She was a member of the Word of Life Fellowship, Huntingdon, R.D. 2; the Ladies Auxiliary to the Alexandria American Legion Post No. 520; and the Petersburg Catering Club. She enjoyed crocheting and latch hook. Mrs. Singer had been a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County. Matthew Keith BLACK, 19, of 2300 Brumbaugh Ave., Huntingdon, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at 4 a.m., in Selinsgrove, at Susquehanna University. Born May 29, 1981, in Huntingdon, he was the son of A. Keith and Susan (Stewart) Black, who survive at home. One sister and one brother survive: Danielle N. Black of Owings Mills, Md., and Adam S. Black of Huntingdon. A maternal grandmother, Mildred Stewart of Alexandria, and paternal grandparents, Darlee and Doris Black of Huntingdon, survive. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Dr. Harold William Stewart. Matthew was a member of the Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church in Huntingdon, where he was an acolyte. A 1999 graduate of Huntingdon Area High School, he served as past school student council president and class vice president. He played golf, basketball and baseball in high school and also played summer baseball in the American Legion and City Leagues of Huntingdon. He was involved in Junior Achievement; volunteered for the Special Olympics; organized the HAHS Bloodmobile Drive; and assisted with the Biddy Basketball program at the Huntingdon Community Center. Currently, he was a sophomore business management major at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove. For the past three summers, he was employed by Strickler's Ice and also worked at the Susquehanna University print shop. He had been a resident of Huntingdon County since birth. Matthew was also an honor student and the recipient of the Huntingdon Area High School Leadership Award and the Student Council Leadership Award. At Susquehanna University, he was a recipient of an Academic Leadership Scholarship. FIGARD, 77, a resident of the Presbyterian Home in Hollidaysburg, formerly of Six Mile Run, R.D., died at 5:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at the home. BoRN Oct. 19, 1923, in Round Knob, he was the son of the late R. Raymond and Ester May (Mort) Figard. He was united in marriage to Mable Barton Feb. 6, 1943, in Langdondale. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children: Mrs. Rodney (Kay) McClain of Bedford and Robert S. Figard of Six Mile Run. There are five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two step- grandchildren and four step-great- grandchildren. Three sisters and a brother survive: Ruth Figard, Osterburg; Janet Corrie, Middletown; Loretta Ruby, Six Mile Run; and George Figard, Saxton. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Naomi Figard, and brothers Franklin, Donald and Charley. Mr. Figard was self-employed as a school bus owner/operator. Previously he drove a truck for the timber industry, transporting logs and paperwood. He attended the Kearney Church in Six Mile Run, which he and his wife, Mabel, helped to reopen in 1982. During World War ii, Mr. Figard served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Six Mile Run American Legion. He was a former member of the First National Bank of Everett board of directors and was former board member of the Broad Top Area Medical Center. He helped to build the Six Mile Run Fire Hall and was a member of the NRA. He enjoyed camping, hunting and in most recent years, riding his four-wheeler. Mr. Figard's unique hobby was making airplanes from soda cans. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 1, at the Curtis A. McCLOY, 64, of 811 58th St., Altoona, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at his residence. Born June 23, 1936, in Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of the late Ray and Adelaide (McFadden) McCloy. He married Janice C. Orr in Hollidaysburg. Surviving along with his wife are two sons and two step-daughters: Dr. Todd McCloy, Erie; Dr. Brian McCloy, Iowa; Melissa Vera, Harrisburg; and MarCelle Novi, Carlisle. There are four grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, including his twin, Connie Clausner, Louelia Bryson, Sally Muko and Sib Bergman, all of Mt. Pleasant. Numerous nieces, nephews and relatives survive. He was preceded in death by a brother, Merritt, and a sister, Arlene Herd. Mr. McCloy was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Hollidaysburg. He received a football scholarship and graduated from St. Vincent College in Latrobe and received his master's degree from Villanova University and did graduate work at Temple University. He received his eligibility of principalship from Penn State University. Mr. McCloy was an elementary principal for the Huntingdon Area School District for 27 years, beginning in 1970. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and walking his Golden Retrievers, Morgan and Lady. He was a member of the Park Hills Country Club. Born Jan. 29, 1918, in McVeytown, she was a daughter of the late Russell E. and Millie (Rupert) Stine. She married Hayden G. Runk Oct. 22, 1938. He preceded her in death July 3, 2000. Surviving are a son and a daughter: David S. Runk of Lewistown and Elaine S. Richards of Cranford, N.J. There are five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Three sisters survive: Zelda Madrick, Alfred, Maine; Mrs. Howard (Elma) Heckler, Hatfield; and Orpha Lou Kane, Clearfield. Mrs. Runk was a homemaker. She was a member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren and the Shining Star Sunday School Class of the church. She was also a former deacon and trustee of the church. She enjoyed cooking and flower gardening. Jerry Lee Miller officiating. Ralph C. ROLES, 82, of 455 Big Greenbriar Rd., McVeytown, died at 6:40 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He had been in failing health. Born June 13, 1918, in. Clay Township, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Charles N. and Edith (Booher) Roles. He married Edith V. Scott in March 1942. Mrs. Roles survives at home, along with three children: Charles T. Roles and David L. Roles, both of Big Greenbriar Road, McVeytown, and Ralph D. Roles of Woodbridge, Va. There are 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. One daughter, Sharon V. Roles, and a grandson preceded him in death. Two sisters, Faye W. Peters of Lewistown and Betty Carl of Erie, survive. He was preceded in death by five siblings: Walter Roles, Melvin N. Roles, Charles A. Roles, Ruth Kephart and Alice Roles. Mr. Roles attended the Cedar Crest-Lucy Furnace Chapel. He had been employed by General Refractories in Mount Union on Jack's Mountain, by the former Pennsylvania Department of Forests and Waters, by L.C. Anderson and Sons, Inc., by Laney's Feed Mill in Huntingdon and on the road crew of Wayne Township, Mifflin County. He enjoyed hunting and farming and spending time with his large family. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, following an extended illness. Born Nov. 28, 1941, in Saxton, he was a son of the late Dewey and Bertha (Brown) Dodson. He married Thelma Alexander July 18, 1982, in Riddlesburg. Mrs. Dodson survives at home, along with the following stepchildren: Linda Kline, Wayne Alexander, David Alexander, Sue Malliband and Richard Alexander, all of Huntingdon; and Matthew Alexander of Six Mile Run. There are 14 step-grandchildren, and 20 step-great-grandchildren. One sister, Betty Kline of Six Mile Run, and a brother, Ronald Dodson, also of Six Mile Run, survive. Two brothers, Charles and Raymond, preceded him in death. Mr. Dodson was a member of the Riddlesburg Independent Bible Church. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 2, at 2 p.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with the Rev. Jesse Musser and the Rev. Gordon Port officiating. Interment will be made in the Langdondale Cemetery. Julia E. HOBERG, 70, of 120 Equine Lane, P.O. Box 206, Mount Union, died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Aug. 4, 1930, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Clara Paisley. She married Frank Hoberg April 15, 1950, in Elkton, Md. Mr. Hoberg survives at home, along with four children: Beverly Grear, Cherry Hill, N.J.; Frank C. Hoberg, Carol A. Hoberg and Steven B. Hoberg, all of Philadelphia. There are four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One daughter, Linda Marie Gallagher, preceded her in death. Three sisters and a brother survive: Edna Keenan and June Grimes, both of Philadelphia, and Cathrine Costello and James Paisley, both of New Jersey. Three sisters and one brother are deceased. Mrs. Hoberg had been employed by Dalco in Mount Union, for 15 years. She was a member of Cedar Crest-Lucy Furnace Chapel, Mount Union, R.D. "Maul" STORRS, 82, of 606 Yale Lane, Greenwood, Altoona, died at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at his residence, following an extended illness. Born Sept. 19, 1918, in Osterburg, he was a son of the late George W. and Bertha M. (Feather) Storrs. He married Ethel I. Ketrow Dec, 17, 1950, in Bedford. Mrs. Storrs survives at home, along with a daughter, Mrs. Edgar (Diana C.) Sollenberger and a granddaughter at home, and a son, Gary L. Storrs of Albuquerque, N.M. One brother, H. Vance Storrs of Martinsburg and a sister, Melba Seaman of Pittsburgh, survive. Mr. Storrs retired in 1982, after 42 years of service as a floor supervisor from GTE Sylvania and Philips Electronics. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, trap shooting and rattlesnake hunting, among other outdoor activities. He was a member of the NRA, Tyrone Sportsman's Club, Riggles Gap Sportsman's Club, Mosquito Creek Sportsman's Club, Patton Sportsman's Association, the Juniata Boone Rod and Gun Club, Sinnamahoning Sportman's Club, Philipsburg Rod and Gun Club and Bavarian Aid Society and Camp. Interment will be made in Blair Memorial Park. Helen V. WOLFE, 86, of Cool Ridge, W.Va., died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, following a short illness. Born Oct. 23, 1918, in Mapleton, she was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Naomi B. Querry. Surviving are a son, Robert A. Knight of Oklahoma City, Okla., and a daughter, Linda Rylant of Cool Ridge, W.Va. There are three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One sister, Claire A. Park of Cassville, survives. One son, Gary B. Wolfe, preceded her in death. Mrs. Wolfe resided in Huntingdon and was employed by Owens Corning Fiberglas. She moved to Cool Ridge after her retirement from OCF. She was a member of the Cool Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. Interment was made in the Beckley Memorial Park in Beckley, W.Va. Dennis Eugene BULLETT, 50, of 69 Sanford Place, Newark, N.J., died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at his residence. His death was unexpected. Born March 23, 1950, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late David R. Bullett, who preceded him in death Oct. 10, 2000, and Elizabeth (Jenkins) Bullett, who survives in Huntingdon. One sister and two brothers survive: Anita Nwaobilo, Huntingdon; Robert K. Bullett, Ashburn, Va.; and D. Anthony Bullett, Cranbury, N.J. One sister preceded him in death in infancy. Mr. Bullett was a member of Payne AME Church, Huntingdon. A member of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey BAR associations, he was a self-employed attorney in New Jersey for the past nine years. Previously, he had worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Joseph P. Healy in the Superior Court of New Jersey. Educated in the public schools of Huntingdon, he was a 1968 graduate of Huntingdon Area High School. He attended Juniata College for two years and received his bachelor of arts degree from Lincoln University in 1973. In 1983, he attained an MBA from Long Island University and graduated from Seton Hall University in Newark, N.J., in 1992, with a degree in law. While at Seton Hall, he was involved with the Legal Services Clinic and Mentor Program. He also participated in the Frederick Douglas Moot Court Competition and was a member of the Seton Hall Moot Court Board. He had been a resident of Huntingdon County until 1970 and had resided in the New York City area since 1973. Mr. Bullett enjoyed debating, reading, playing golf and was a great jazz lover. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 4, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Geraldine, Daniel officiating. Interment will be made in the Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. Ann M. RAUCH, 27, of Wilkes-Barree, died Feb. 27, 2001, following a lengthy illness. Born Jan. 2, 1974, in Topton, she was a daughter of Susan Rauch of Lewisburg and Dennis Rauch of Huntingdon, R.D. Also surviving are her daughter, Dawn Huffnagle of Lewisburg and her grandmother, Helen Rauch of Huntingdon. Miss Rauch was a 1993 graduate of Huntingdon Area High School. Graveside services were held today at Longswamp Lutheran Cemetery. Winifred Spyker RISHEL, 87, of Huntingdon Manor, formerly of Main Street, Alexandria, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at 3:27 a.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Her death was unexpected. Born Sept. 1, 1913, at the family home in Alexandria, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Bertha Margaret (Piper) Spyker. In 1934, she married James Clyde Rishel, who preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, John Charles Rishel of Jamestown, N.C., one granddaughter and one grandson. One sister, Eleanor G. Mickey, preceded her in death Nov. 21, 1999. Mrs. Rishel worked as a secretary at the office of Dr. William Stewart in Alexandria for over 20 years. She was a member of the ChristReformed Church, United Church of Christ in Alexandria and graduated from the Alexandria High School in 1931. Except for a number of years following her marriage, she had been a lifelong resident of Alexandria. She had resided at Huntingdon Manor for the past two and one-half years. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Juniata Valley Chapel, 412 Main St., Alexandria, with the Rev. Gerald W. McCuller Jr. officiating.
