Main St., Belleville, died at 5:20 am Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at her home. She was a daughter of the late Clayton S. and Phoebe J. (Hesley) Metz, She was united in marriage to Paul Sitch March 18, 1949. Mr. Sitch survives at their home. Two sons survive; Paul C. Sitch, Colonial Heights, Va.; and Kenneth G. Sitch, Belleville. There are five grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Mark (Betty) Leamer of Huntingdon. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet J. Sitch, and two brothers, John C. Metz and Donald E. Metz. Mrs. Sitch was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Belleville. She was a homemaker. Funeral services will be held at 11 am. Tuesday at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 3597W. Main St., Belleville, with the Rev. Lois Martin officiating. Interment will be made in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville. Bernice Blanche (Locke) KLING, 74, of HCR 75, Shade Gap, died at 2:23 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg. Born July 21, 1928, in Dublin Township, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Beulah (Nead) Locke. She was married to Galen Kling Nov. 9, 1944, in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Kling survives at their home. She is survived by three daughters; Linda Kling, Shade Gap; and Mrs. David (Glenda) Hamilton and Mrs. Bill (Audrey) Hall, both of Burnt Cabins. There are four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren. Three sisters and one brother survive; Dorothy Mellott, Mercersburg; Mildred Linn and Janet Locke, both of Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia; and Stanley Locke, Burnt Cabins. She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Eugene Kling; three brothers, Robert Locke, Wallace Locke and Richard "Dick" Locke; and two sisters. Mary (Locke) Brown and Hazel (Locke) Brown. Mrs. Kling was a member of the Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church. Shade Gap, for over 50 years where she served as superintendent of the pre-school children’s Sunday School department and taught Sunday School classes for over 40 years. In 1969, she founded the annual Boys and Girls Missionary Parade at the church. She was also a member of the Women’s Ministries at Fair Ridge. A member of the Huntingdon County Farm Women and the Huntingdon County Farm Women Group II, she served as president of both groups for a number of years. She was a member of the Huntingdon County Gideons Ladies Auxiliary and the Shade Gap Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary For over 20 years, she served on the Dublin Township Election Board. She was a homemaker. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5. at the Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church, Shade Gap, R.R., with the Revs. Wilson Boyd and Belvy White officiating. Interment will be made in Fair Ridge Cemetery. Emma Naomi SUMMERS, 75, of South Madden Road, Hustontown, died Saturday morning, Feb. 1, 2003, at her home in Taylor Township, Fulton County. Born May 13, 1927, in Todd Township, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late James Alex and Esther (Crownover) Heffner. She was married to Theodore W. Summers Feb. 16, 1944, in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Summers preceded her in death Nov. 30, 1998. One son and one daughter survive; Theodore J. Summers, Shippensburg; and Beverly A. McDaid, Hustontown. There are four grandsons and six great-grandchildren. One sister, Betty Watkins of Willow hill. also survives. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Pearl, Dec. 3, 1977; one son, Edgar, Oct. 16, 1964; one grandson, Rick McDaid; one great-grandson. Seth Summers; two brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Summers was of the Methodist faith. Along with her husband, she had been self-employed in the logging business for many years. Funeral services will be held at 11 am. Tuesday, Feb. 4. at the MR. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, with the Rev. David Ford officiating. Interment will be made in Hustontown Cemetery. John Richard HAWN, 81, of R.R. 2, Box 284, Huntingdon, died at 12:40 am. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, following a brief illness. Born Jan. 27, 1922, in Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late John David and Helen (Frew) Hawn. He was united in marriage to the former Henrietta Peoples March 9, 1951, in Belleville, by the Rev. C. O. Anderson. Mrs. Hawn survives at their Miller Township residence. Two daughters survive; Sharon D. Hawn and Dian E. Lewis, both of Miller Township, Huntingdon County. There are two grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters; Jean Peoples of Huntingdon, and Erchall Tetwiler of Port Royal. One sister Marietta Collins, preceded him in death. Mr. Hawn was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Manor Hill Charge United Methodist Men and was also active on various church committees. A graduate of Huntingdon High School, he was a member of the Class of 1941. He served with the U.S. Army, during World War II, from 1942-1945. In 1986, he retired from the receiving department of the J.C. Blair Company (presently Mead Westvaco) following 40 years service. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting and vegetable gardening. At one time he enjoyed bowling. He was a resident of his Miller township home for 52 years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the John B. William Wilson SNYDER, 83, of R.R. 1, Box 39, Hesston, died at 3:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Huntingdon Manor, Warm Springs Avenue, Huntingdon. He had been in failing health for the past two years. Born in Aitch, Hopewell Township, Sept. 3, 1919, he was a son of the late Allen S. and Nora A. (Conn) Snyder. He was united in marriage to the former Phyllis V. Johnson April 10, 1942, at the home of the groom in Aitch. The groom’s father officiated at the wedding. Mrs. Snyder survives at their home. He is survived by three daughters and one son; Mrs. David (Judith Ann Snyder) Burke, Marshall Harbor, The Bahamas; Gibson Lee Snyder, Hesston, R.R. 1; Mrs. David (Connie Snyder) Fisher, Lancaster; and Mrs. Lee (Barbara Snyder) Wakefield, Hesston, R.R. 1. There are 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one step granddaughter and one step great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one half sister, Mrs. Tom (Edna Snyder) Ruane, and two brothers, Arthur Snyder and Allen Snyder Jr. Mr. Snyder was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, McConnellstown, where he formerly served as a deacon. He was a life member of the Standing Stone Post No 1754, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Huntingdon, and the Mapleton Post No. 322, American Legion, Mapleton. He was also a member of the Central County Honey Beekeepers Association. He attended the Hopewell Township public schools. During World War II he served with the U.S. Army, Co. H., 324th Inf. Reg. 44th Div., in the European Theatre of Operations, attaining the rank of technical sergeant. He saw action in Northern France, The Rhineland and Central Europe. He had resided at his Walker Township home for over 60 years. Employed by The Daily News as a motor delivery carrier, he was also a groundskeeper at the Huntingdon Country Club. Prior to and following his military service, he was employed by Harbison Walker Refractory, Mount Union. He later served as a school bus owner/operator in the Huntingdon Area School District for 35 years. Along with his brother, he co-owned Snyder’s Garage of Smithfield Township, that later became Snyder’s Fruit Market He enjoyed gardening, tending to his orchard of over 100 fruit trees and his honey bees, hunting, fishing and camping. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with the Rev. Dr. Keith A. Kensinger officiating. Interment will be made in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Township, Huntingdon, R.R. 1, where full military honors will be accorded at the graveside committal service. Esther L. YOCUM, 72, of R.R. 1, Box 175, Blairs Mills, died at 2:05 p.m. Saturday, Feb 1, 2003, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg. Born May 16, 1930, in Huntingdon County. she was a daughter of the late W. Henry and Annie M. (Yocum) Goshorn. She was united in marriage to Warren M. Yocum March 2, 1957. Mr. Yocum survives at their home. Two sons and one daughter survive; Steven W. Yocum, Orbisonia; and Drew A. Yocum and Mrs. Buddie (Trudy J.) Hockenberry, both of Blairs Mills. There are six grandchildren. Two sisters survive: Vera Rosenberry of Willow Hill and Betty Okeson of Enola. Mrs. Yocum was a member of Nossville United Methodist Church, Nossville. She had been employed at the former Goshorn Restaurant, Blairs Mills, for 49 years. Funeral services will he held at 11 am. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the John L. Elizabeth "Liz" CARLSON, 80, of 11 Secor St., Sidney, NY, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at the Couse-Irving Hospital, Syracuse, N.Y. Born Sept. 20, 1922, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary Naomi (Miller) Sanks. She married Robert Carlson March 3, 1945, in Sidney. Mr. Carlson preceded her in death Sept. 21, 1993. She is survived by one son and one daughter; Craig Carlson, Liverpool, N.Y., and Mrs. Michael (Cynda) Hurley, Columbia, S.C. There are four grandchildren. One sister, Evelyn Sanks of Tampa. Fla., survives. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers; Cloyd Sanks and Ellsworth Sanks, and six sisters; Beatrice Rhodes, Laura Marble, Catherine Sanks, Josephine Owens, Betty Vitch and Jane Cook. Mrs. Carlson was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church, Sidney. She operated Liz’s Fabrics and the Pennysaver, both in Sidney. for several years. Funeral services were held Jan. 2, at the United Methodist Church, Sidney. with the Rev. David Masland officiating. Interment will be made in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney, in the spring. Samuel J. DiSALVO, 81, of Falls Township, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Chandler Hall, Newtown. Born Dec. 18, 1921, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Frank and Josephine DiSalvo. He is survived by one brother, Andrew DiSalvo of Mount Union, and one sister, Sandy Tecco of Middletown. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother, Tony DiSalvo, and one sister, Mary Kern. Mr DiSalvo was a member of St. Joseph the Worker parish and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph the Worker Council No. 4215. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He had resided in Fallsington since 1950. In 1983, he retired as a foreman in the pipe fitting division of U.S. Steel Fairless Works, where he had been employed for over 30 years. A funeral Mass will he celebrated at noon Wednesday. Feb. 5. at St. Joseph the Worker Church. The rite of committal will take place at noon Thursday, in St. Catherine’s Church Cemetery, Mount Union. Albert A. ZEILINGER, 69, of Westland, Mich., died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, in Garden City Hospital, Garden City, Mich. Born Nov. 26, 1933,.in Williamsburg, he was a son of the late George and Dorothy (Fasick) Zeilinger. He was united in marriage to the former Anna Spencer in October 1958 at the Christian and Missionary Ailiance Church, Huntingdon. Mrs. Zeilinger survives at their home. He is also survived by one son and one daughter; Randy Zeilinger, Garden City; and Mrs. George (Amy) Loescher, Ypsilanti. Mich. There are nine grandchildren. One brother, Harry Zeilinger, survtves. He was preceded in death by one brother, James Zeilinger. and two sisters, Helen Kislow and Grace Rhine. He was an automotive job setter. Box 84, Saxton, died at 10:20 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, in the emergency room of JC. Blair Memorial Hospital. His death was unexpected. Born Dec. 22, 1937, in Todd Township, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Edward and Anna (Scott) Lemin. He is survived by two children; Cindy D. Lemin and Irvin Harry "Peanut" Lenin Jr., both of Saxton. There are four grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters survive; Oren Lemin, Todd; Stewart Lemin, Fort Worth, Texas; Susan Johnson, James Creek, R.R. 1; and Donna Coffman, Saxton. He was preceded in death by one son, Brian Lemin, and four brothers, Dale Lemin, Owen Lemin. Dallas Lemin and Boyd Lemin, Mr. Lenin was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of Saxton VFW Post 4129; Saxton Sportsmen s Association and Watson-Black American Legion Post 126. Broad Top City. For 20 years, he was employed by O’Neal Steel Company, Norristown. Daniel NICKOLOFF, 83, a resident of Huntingdon Manor, Warm Springs Avenue, Huntingdon, for the past two and one-half years, formerly of F-1 Federal Drive, Mount Union, died at 10:20 am. Monday, Feb. 3, 2003. at Huntingdon Manor. Born Oct. 10, 1919. in Cedar Crest, Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Christ and Mary (Mazer) Nickoloff. He was united in marriage to the former Mary Hrynciw Aug. 14, 1942. Mrs. Nickoloff survives at Meadowview Manor, McVeytown, RR. 1. One son and one daughter survive; Terry D. Nickoloff, Hendersonville, N.C.. and Donna M. Rommelt, State College. There are two grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers and one sister; Lou Nickoloff of Mount Union. R.R. 1; John Nickoloff and Alex Nickoloff, both of Wyandotte, Mich.; and Mary Flasher of Mount Union, R.R. Thee brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Mr. Nickoloff was a member of St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union. He attended the Mount Union schools. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre. He was well known in the Mount Union area for his ability in and love of fishing. He also enjoyed hunting. A funeral Mass will he held at 10 am. Friday. Committal will he made in St. Catherine N Catlholic Cetnetery, Shirleysburg. Golda "Grace" DANIELS, 98, of Aliquippa, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, in Sheffield Manor, Aliquippa. Born April 24, 1904, in Todd, Huntingdon County, she was the youngest daughter of the late David and Lydia Barnett She was married to John Lewis Daniels who preceded her in death in 1961. She is survived by one son, Joseph Daniels, Independence Township; and two daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Lydia) Lane, Cassville: and Mrs. David (Golda) Twyford, Aliquippa. There are 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. One sister, Pearl Fleming, survives in Cassville. She was preceded in death by a son, Dwight David Daniels, in 1989; two brothers, Charles Barnett and Lewis Barnett; one sister. Mae Edwards; and seven half brothers and half sisters. Mrs. Daniels was an active member of the Aliquippa Free Methodist Church for 75 years, where she served as class leader, Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher and Bible Study teacher. During the last years of her life, she opened her home for prayer meetings. A homemaker, she was a caregiver to the elderly until the age of 80. She was a former employee of Islay’s Dairy and the Pittsburgh Mercantile Store, both in Aliquippa. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 6, in the Wayne N. Tatalovich Funeral Home, 2205 McMinn St., Aliquippa, with her pastor, the Rev. Michele Nagle, officiating. A local service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, in the Trough Creek United Methodist Church, Cassville, with the Rev. Don Henderson officiating. Interment will be made in Trough Creek Cemetery. Joseph J. APPLEBY, 87, of the Presbyterian Home, Hollidaysburg, formerly of 516 E. Atlantic Ave., Altoona, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Presbyterian Home following an extended illness. Born July 24, 1915, in Shirley Township, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Herbert N. and Lottie G. (Vaughn) Appleby. He was united in marriage to the former Florine M, Grove Oct. 9, 1937, in Hagerstown, Md. Mrs. Appleby preceded him in death Oct. 20, 2002. He is survived by one son, Dennis Appleby of Hollidaysburg; and two daughters, Mrs. Russell (Loretta) Greaser of Hollidaysburg; and Mrs. Richard (Carole) Dodson of Altoona. There are six grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One sister, Thelma Hetrick of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, survives. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters; Brady Appleby, Raymond Appleby, Charles Appleby, Mary Everett and Clara Snyder. Mr. Appleby was a former member of Mount Nebo United Brethren Church. He attended Aughwick School, Shirleysburg. He retired from Conrail May 9, 1979, as a conductor/brakeman in the Middle Division. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Presbyterian Home Chapel, 220 Newry St., Hollidaysburg, with Pastor Paul Pease officiating. Interment will be made in Alto Reste Park, Altoona. Donald W. "Newtie" GRAINEY Sr., 57, of 6 Prunewood Road, Levittown, died at 4:39 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the Frankford Torresdale Hospital, Philadelphia. His death was unexpected. Born Dec. 16, 1945, in Mapleton, he was a son of the late Newton and Martha (Ward) Grainey. He was united in marriage to the former Patricia Reese Jan. 4,1969, in Winchester, Va. Mrs. Grainey survives at their home. He is survived by four children; Kelly Grainey, Levittown; Tricia Dornisch, Telford; Kristine Markawicz, Levittown; and Donald W. Grainey Jr., Bensalem. There are three grandchilddren; Rachel Lynn, Tyler James and Kaitlyn Elizabeth. One brother, Glen W. Grainey, survives in Mapleton. He was preceded in death by one sister, Kathryn Booher, and one brother, George Grainey. Mr. Grainey was of the Protestant faith. He was a 1964 graduate of Captain Jack High School, Mount Union. During the Vietnam Conflict, he served with the U.S. Army from 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1968. For the last 14 years, he has been employed as a sales manager for Fred Hill and Co. of Philadelphia, a materials handling firm. Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, 61 E. Shirley St., Mount Union, with the Rev. Mindy Coates officiating. Interment will be made in the IOOF Cemetery, Mapleton. Darryl R. CLAAR, 61, of 116 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Mount Union, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon. Feb. 6, 2003, at the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Born April 16, 1941, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Roland J. and Hilda V. (Chilcote) Miller. He married Beverly (Donoff) Claar Sept. 1, 1962, in the First Baptist Church in Mount Union. Mrs. Claar survives at their home. Mr. Claar is survived by two children; Debb Claar of Rosenhayn, N.J.; and Jeff Claar of Valdosta, Ga. Four grandchildren survive. A sister, Louanna Waite of Tampa. Fla., also survives. Mr. Claar was preceded in death by two brothers, John DeVirgilo and Dick Claar. He was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Claar was past president of the Mount Union Lions Club. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing. He graduated from Captain Jack High School in 1960. He was employed by Griffith Oil Co. in Huntingdon for 25 years and was most recently employed by the Ames Department Store in Huntingdon where he worked in the shoe department. Funeral services will he held at 11 am. Monday, Feb. 10 at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Gordon Ross officiating. Interment will he made in the Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg, R.R. 1. Jay N. CUTCHALL, 37, of 2604 Back Run Road, McConnellsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at his home. Born Jan. 29, 1966, in McConnellsburg, he was a son of Charles P. and Betty (Fetters) Cutchall. His mother survives in McConnellsburg. His father is deceased. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie (Seibert) Cutchall, and two sons, Ryan Cutchall and Mathias Cutchall. One sister and two brothers survive; Karen Cutchall, Greencastle; Paul Cutchall, McConnellsburg; and Vance Cutchall, New Jersey. Mr Cutchall was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Big Cove Tannery, and attended First Church of the Nazarene. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the North American Hunting Club. An iron worker, he was employed by Local 568. Rose (DiCello) Leone, 91, of Epwotth Manor, 951 Washington Ave., Tyrone, formerly of 3 Angora Road, Carnegie, died at 9:20 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Epworth Manor. Her death followed an extended illness of Alzheimer’s Disease. Born Nov. 15, 1911, in Carnegie, she was a daughter of the late NicolIa and Maria (Giardina) DiCello. She was united in marriage to John J. Leone April 19, 1933, in Carnegie, by the Rev. Dominicus. Mr. Leone preceded her in death May 8, 1997. One son and two daughters survive; John A. Leone, Bethlehem; Anita (Leone) Murray, Fort Worth, Texas; and Loretta (Leone) Selgelid, North Hampton, Mass. There are six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Three sisters survive; Milinda Long, Pittsburgh: Evelina Brunelli, Ohio, and Violanda Marion, California. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ellia Capoferri and Flora Marinelli. Mrs. Leone was a member of the Holy Souls Catholic Church, Carnegie. and of the Christian Mothers of Holy Souls. She was a Red Cross volunteer to the Veterans Hospital. Pittsburgh; a trustee of the Sons and Daughters of Italy and a member of the Carnegie YWCA. She attended the Carnegie public schools. Primarily a homemaker, she enjoyed needle and art crafts. Interment will he made in Goodman Cemetery, Henderson Township, Huntingdon. Esther W. COHENOUR, 83, of Mount Union, died at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at JC. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born April 10, 1919, in Rockhill Furnace, she was a daughter of the late Issac W. and Laura B. (Hollibaugh) Workman. She was married to Bernard A. Mrs. Cohenour attended the First United Methodist Church, Mount Union. where she was a member of the Women’s Sunday School class. She was a member of Mount Union Chapter No. 280 Order of Eastern Star and the Women’s Twentieth Century Club of Mount Union. She was a 1935 graduate of Orbisonia High School. Primarily a homemaker, she also helped manage her father’s business, Workman’s Economy Store, in Orbisonia, Rockhill and Mount Union. She also helped at the Rockhill Post Office when it was located at her fathers store. She later helped her husband with Cohenour’s Refrigeration Service and Bicycle Repair, Mount Union. She enjoyed playing the piano, knitting and sewing. She and her husband enjoyed going to flea markets. Funeral services will he held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Martin R. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona. He had been in failing health. Born Nov. 7, 1946. in Mount Union. he was a son of Clarence R. and Catherine L. "Betty" (Wakefield) Woods. His father survives at Mapleton, RR. 1. His mother is deceased. He is survived by three children; Mrs. Ivan (Kimberly) Valdes of Maitland, Fla.; and Steven Woods and Mrs. Andre (Jeanne) Thomas, both of Orlando, Fla. There are four grandchildren. Two sisters survive; Wanda D. Johnson of Harrisburg and Mary L. Conway of Saltillo. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert D. Woods and Clarence R. Woods, and a sister, Senora Ann Woods. Mr. Woods was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Orlando, Fla. He graduated from Captain Jack High School, Mount Union, in 1964. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he served in the Vietnam Conflict and received the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1969. In 1976, he moved to Orlando and became a successful businessman for many years. He recently retired and returned to the Mount Union area. A NASCAR fan, he also loved to hunt. SKILLINGTON, 84, of 501 Silvery Lane, Martinsburg, formerly of Huntingdon, died Friday afternoon Feb. 7, 2003, at Bon Secours-Holy Family UPMC Regional Health Center, Altoona, following an extended illness. Born Sept. 11, 1918, in Braddock, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Edith E. (Swartzwelder) Skillington. He was united in marriage to the former Jeanne L. Hess Dec. 2, 1944, in Marklesburg. Mrs. Skillington survives. Three sons survive; Charles R. Skillington, Wexford; Gary L. Skillington, Key West, Fla.; and Richard M. Skillington, Dublin, Ohio. There are five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Naomi E. Irwin, on Dec. 25, 1999. Mr. Skillington was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg. He was a former Lions Club member. He received his bachelor of science degree in agronomy and agricultural science and also attended Cornell University. He retired in 1983 as an agricultural county agent for the Pennsylvania State University at Ridgeway after a total of 37 years service. He enjoyed woodworking, was an avid reader and also enjoyed all sports, especially Penn State football. M. Ruth (Eller) WYLES, 86, of 2100 Pinchot Road, Saxton, died at 2:42 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, following an extended illness. Born Aug. 22, 1916, in Hopewell Township, Bedford County, she was a daughter of the late Cloyd M. and Blanche (Crowell) Eller. She was united in marriage to Joseph C. Wyles Jr. Aug. 28, 1937, in Hopewell Township, Bedford County. Mr. Wyles survives at their home. She is survived by three daughters and one son; Mona McGraw, State College; Sally Treece Buell, Martinsburg; Joann Adams, Rockville Center, N.Y.; and Larry A. Wyles, Lebanon. There are nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister; Ray Eller, Tommy Eller and Mable (Eller) Shoemaker. Mrs. Wyles was a member of Raven Run Church of the Brethren where she served as deaconess, was active in Women’s Work and various other church activities. For many years, she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a member of The Gideons International and the Bedford County Republicans. She graduated in 1935 from Robert P. Smith High School, Yellow Creek. For a number of years, she was employed by Quality Manufacturing Co., Saxton. She was primarily a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening. Charles W. "Chip" BENSON, 86, formerly of Orbisonia, more recently of Lewistown, died at 12:09 am. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at Lewistown Hospital, Lewistown. Born Dec. 3, 1916. in Springfield Township, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Scott and Naomi (Wible) Benson, His first wife, Lucille, preceded him in death. He then married the former Catherine M. Sherman who also preceded him in death. He is survived by one granddaughter, Mrs. Vaughn (Diane) Nale, who was reared in the Benson home. For the past three years, he has resided with his great-granddaughter, Mrs. Jeff (Anna) Mackneer, Lewistown. There are three great-great-grandchildren. One sister, Edna Schwetz, survives in Ohio. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Benson. Mr. Benson was a veteran of World War II, having served with the US. Army as a military policeman. He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg. At one time he was also employed by the East Broad Top Railroad, Rockhill Furnace. He was also a self-employed handyman. An avid hunter and fisherman, he also enjoyed gardening. He enjoyed spending time with his great-great-grandchildren, fishing, camping, playing with Barbies, watching movies and putting puzzles together. He was especially fond of his dog, Lillie. Audrey Randolph CARR, 69, of Glenville, Ga., died at her home Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Carr of Glenville. KREPPS, 71, of Jack’s Mountain Road, McVeytown, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at his home. Born Feb. 13, 1931, in Oliver Township, Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Rufus W. and Dora F. (Buchanan) Krepps. He was married to the former Joan L. Smith Dec. 18, 1954. He owned his own drag car-a Pro Street car-a 1978 Chevy Malibu. He enjoyed professional wrestling, motorcycles, CB and HAM radio and computers. Born June 17, 1927, at Hopewell, R,R. 2, he was the oldest child of the late Charles Roy and Ethel Mae (Wright) Dodson. He was united in marriage to the former Donna M. He was a life member of both the Six Mile Run Volunteer Fire Co. and the Six Mile Run Volunteer Fire Police. In 1999, he was named the Six Mile Run Volunteer Fire Policeman of the Year. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania State Fire Police Association and a member of the fire police in Huntingdon, Somerset and Cambria counties. A member of the Hopewell Senior Citizens, he was also a member of the Six Mile Run Top of the Hill Senior Group. He was a life member of Everett VFW Post No. 2088. A member of the Langdondale Cemetery Association, he served as trustee and caretaker for the cemetery for 25 years. He was also a part of the committee responsible for the placement of the Langdondale Cemetery Honor Roll. He attended Broad Top area public schools. From 1945-1951, he served in the United States Army as an MP in the European Theatre of Operations, serving in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1970 from Bethlehem Steel in Highspire. An avid hunter and fisherman, he also enjoyed cooking and fellowship with neighborhood youth. Born Oct. 4, 1931, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Honorable Richard M. and Grace (Metz) Simpson. She never married. Two sisters survive; Susan (Simpson) Anderson, San Diego, Calif., and Kay Simpson, Olympia, Wash. She is also survived by three aunts; Mrs. Robert B. (Jean Hoffman) Simpson, Alexandria; Mrs. Robert (Jane Metz) Kitting, Huntingdon; and Mrs. Robert K. (Helen Metz) Rumbaugh, Belleville. Ms. Simpson was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Huntingdon. A graduate of Huntingdon High School, Class of 1949, she received a bachelor of science degree in economics from Bucknell University. She earned a master of arts degree from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania; and a second master of arts degree from the London School of Economics. She performed doctoral studies at the University of North Carolina. An educator, Ms. Simpson was professor of economics at The College of William & Mary; The University of Maryland, Munich, Germany; and Queens College, Charlotte, NC. She served the state of North Carolina as a utility commissioner and was the director of governmental affairs for the Duke Power Co., Charlotte, N.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, following a brief illness. Born Dec. 21, 1913, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Jesse Emery and Elsie (Cavanaugh) Corbin. He was united in marriage to the former Janette F. Hood, July 5. 1947. in St. James Lutheran Church, Huntingdon, by the Rev. E.L. Manges. Mrs Corbin preceded him in death Nov. 20, 1981. He is survived by three sons; Steven J. Corbin, Huntingdon; David A. Corbin, Amarillo, Texas: and James F. Corbin. Mount Union. There are three granddaughters and one great-grandson. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters; Ralph Corhin; twins. Mr. Corbin was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Huntingdon. A member of Standing Stone Post 1754 VFW, he was also a member of Standing Stone Senior Citizens and had been a Meals on wheels volunteer at one time. He graduated from Mount Union High School with the Class of 1933. In August 1941, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. While stationed in Portland, Maine, he joined the U.S. Army Band. He shipped out in 1943 to serve with Battery C of 403rd Coast Artillery Battalion during World War II in Northern Africa and Italy. He was honorably discharged in October 1945. He first worked at the former Hall’s Candy Store in Huntingdon while also working part-time at Huntingdon Post Office. From 1946-1947, he worked at Owens Corning Fiberglas, Huntingdon. In 1947, he was hired by the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier in Huntingdon and held that job until his retirement. WAKEFIELD, 87, of 1014 Moore St., Huntingdon, died unexpectedly at her home Monday, Feb. 17, 2003. Born in Huntingdon Jan. 28, 1916, she was a daughter of the late W. Frank and Carrie (Hirst) Benson. She was united in marriage to Kenneth J. Wakefield Aug. 13, 1937, in Huntingdon. Mr. Wakefield preceded her in death May 16, 2000. She is survived by three children; William E Wakefield, Huntingdon; Phyllis C. Leonard, Mapleton; and Kenneth J. Wakefield Jr., Huntingdon. There are six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Jeanne Ferrone of Harrisburg. and one brother, Robert Benson of Palatka, FIa. One son, David L. Wakefield, preceded her in death. Mrs. Wakefield was a member of Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. A graduate of Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1936, she was a homemaker. Born June 4, 1919, in Burnt Cabins, she was a daughter of the late Frank R. and Ellie E. (Kelley) Morrow. She was first married to Reuben R. Diven who preceded her in death in 1978. She then married James Diven, who preceded her in death in 1982. Two daughters and one son survive; Mrs. Merrill G. (Shirley) Stevens, Annville; Mrs. C. Dale (Sylvia) Fleck, Phoenixville; and Gary L. Diven, Lancaster. One stepson, James Diven of Warminster, also survives. There are seven grandchildren, four step grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one step great-grandson and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by three brothers, four sisters and one stepdaughter, Barbara Cassidy. Mrs. Diven was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Shade Gap, R.R. She was a member of Tuscarora Grange No. 24, Shade Gap; Southern Huntingdon County Farm Women and the Shade Gap Area Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. She was a past president of Shade Gap Area Senior Citizens. She had been employed as a cook with the Head Start Program, Fort Littleton. Previously she had been employed by Menno Haven Nursing Home, Chambersburg, and the Shirley Home for the Aged, Shirleysburg, as a nurses aide; and had also worked for the former L. Interment will be made at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Shade Gap, RR. Clarence W. "Red" MORNINGSTAR, 84, of 524 Penn St., Apt. 4, Huntingdon, died at 11:12 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2003. at his home. Born March 20, 1918, in Akron, Ohio, he was a son of the late Fred Charles and Bertha (Nolan) Morningstar . He was united in marriage to the former Betty R. Reisinger Feb. 18, 1973, at Huntingdon Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Payne. Mrs. Morningstar survives at their home. One daughter and one son survive; Mrs. Boyd I. (Darlene K. Price) Hoffman Sr., Orbisonia; and Terry L. Price, Huntingdon. One stepson, Charles F. Richcreek of York, also survives. There are two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. One sister and two brothers survive; Ruth Kelly and Ralph Morningstar, both of Smithfield Township, Huntingdon; and Clinton Morningstar of Virginia. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, including Fred Morningstar, Leroy "Jack" Morningstar, Mary Shea, Bertha Conrad and Geraldine Simpson. Mr. Morningstar was a member of First United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. He was a member of Standing Stone Post No. 1754, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Frank P Hommon Post No. 24 American Legion, both of Huntingdon. He attended Huntingdon schools and graduated from Huntingdon High School. During World War II, he served with the United States Army in Company C, 5th Engineering Battalion. He attained the rank of technician fifth grade with service in Rhineland, Normandy, Northern France, The Ardennes and Central Europe. He retired from the Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Resources (Greenwood Furnace State Park) in 1985. He had also been employed by Strickler Dairy, the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Huntingdon Silk Mills. An avid baseball fan. he particularly enjoyed the Huntingdon City League activities. He also enjoyed hunting, horseshoe pitching and story-telling. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday. Feb. 21, at the John B. R.R. 1, where full military honors will be accorded. Dorothy Catherine SKVARKA, 82, of Robertsdale, died at 3:29 am. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at her residence. Born in Cookstown, July 18, 1920. she was a daughter of the late William and Florence "Bessie" (Leabhart) Thomas. She was united in marriage to Joseph Skvarka April 18, 1938, at Immaculate Conception Church, Dudley, by the Rev. Thomas Houghton. Mr. Skvarka preceded her in.death. She is survived by four daughters and two sons; Helen Foreman, Chambersburg; Marilyn Weist, Breezewood; Carolyn Matthews, Wood; Theresa Minnick, Dudley; Joe Skvarka, Chambersburg; and Richard Skvarka, Carlisle. There are 12 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Lea Herrald of Sunbury; and two brothers, William Thomas of Pogue and Harold Thomas of Lancaster. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Mort. Thomas Stanley GILPIN, 47, of 118 Main St., Alexandria, died at 2:25 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at JC Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He had been in declining health for the past year. Born June 6, 1955, in Los Angeles, Calif., he was a son of Clifford John Jr. and Mary Elizabeth (Coggins) Willett. His father survives in Alexandria. His mother preceded him in death Aug. 22, 1999. HORNER, 79, of Philipsburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Judy Dean of Philipsburg. Born Aug. 12, 1923, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Carlton and Flora (Lohr) Foster. She was united in marriage to Robert W. Horner Aug. 20, 1941. Mr. Horner preceded her in death April 17, 1994. She is survived by three daughters and one son; Bonita E. "Bunny" Burke of Lemont; Judy L. Dean of Philipsburg; Shawn Marie Cox of Mill Hall and Robert W. "Bobby" Horner Jr. of State College. There are ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Eva B. DONALDSON, 82, of 10250 Raystown Road, Saxton, died at 11:06 am, Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Bon Secours-Holy Family UPMC Regional Health Center, Altoona, following a brief illness. Born Oct. 28, 1920, in Dudley, she was a daughter of the late Charles Newton and Annie Emma (Williams) Black. She was united in marriage Dec. 1, 1941, to Clay E. Donaldson, in Cumherland, Md. Mr. Donaldson preceded her in death May 2,1983. One daughter and one son survive; Mrs. Richard (Betty Kay) Fluke and Clay E. Donaldson Jr., both of Saxton. There are three grandchildren. One sister, Ora Baker, survives at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister Mrs. Donaldson was an active member of The First Church of God, Saxton, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, elder and church treasurer for many years. She was president of the Broad Top Area Senior Citizens, Saxton, for a number of years. Active in organizing the Saxton-Liberty Alumni Association, she served as treasurer of the group since its beginning. She was a past matron of Chapter 161, Order of Eastern Star, Saxton. An accomplished seamstress, she was formerly employed as a floor supervisor at the former Scampers Mfg., Saxton. She had also been employed by the former Claudia Footwear, Wood, and US Sports. CORNELIUS, 85, of Pennknoll Village, Bedford, formerly of Saxton, died at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at Pennknoll Village following an extended illness. Born May 28, 1917, in Dudley, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Stella (Swope), Wise. She was united in marriage to Willard "Woody" K, Cornelius Feb. 21, 1936, in Cumberland, Md. Mr. Cornelius preceded her in death in 1983. She is survived by six children; Mrs. Dick (Shirley) Hess, Bedford; Mrs. Frank (Pat) Houck, Orlando, Fla.: Mrs. Clair (Judy) Johns, Huntingdon; Willard "Butch" Cornelius Jr., Harrisburg; Linda Hamm, Phoenixville; and William Cornelius, Saxton. There are 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Cornelius was a member of the Saxton United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Broad Top Senior Citizens, Saxton. and the Saxton-Liberty Alumni Association. HUNSINGER Jr. 76, of HCR 61, Box 78, Blairs Mills, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at his residence. Born July 10, 1926, in Berwick, he was a son of the late Ralph F. Sr. and Velrna (Keller) Hunsinger. He was married to the former Anna L. Burdge who preceded him in death Aug. 21, 2000. He is survived by one daughter and two sons: Nancy L. Shellenberger, Marysville; Dennis A. Hunsinger, Shade Gap; and Darryl A. Hunsinger, Orbisonia. There are seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One brother, Donald Hunsinger, survives in Berwick. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard, and an infant brother who died at birth. Mr. Hunsinger attended Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Society for Advancement of the Deaf, York (PA) Association of the Deaf and Keystone Society of the Deaf He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Socieiy of Deaf Sports Hall of Fame May 21, 1994. for being an outstanding athlete who excelled in football, basketball and track from 1942-1947. He was a 1947 graduate of the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, Philadelphia. After 23 1/2 years of employment at Letterkenny Army Depot. Chambersburg, he retired in May 1987. Beverly (Long) EBERTS, 77, of Steelton, formerly of Wood, died at approximately 12 am. Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in Harrisburg. Born Dec. 15, 1925, in Wood. she was a daughter of the late Clinton and Alice (Nead) Long. She was married to Eugene Eberts who preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by two children, Paula and Gene, and four brothers; James Long, Warren Long, Harold Long and Lester Long. Mrs. Eberts was a 1944 graduate of Robertsdale High School. "Skip" CHANEY, 81, of 1201 Church St., Saxton, died Feb. 21, 2003, at Burdette Tomline Hospital, Cape May Courthouse, N.J.. following a brief illness. Born June 28, 1921, in Kearney, he was a son of the late Dewey and Charlotte (Sheeders) Chaney. He was united in marriage to the former Genevieve Carberry, Aug. 13, 1950. Mrs. Chaney survives. He is also survived by two daughters; Patty Fellowes, Cape May Beach, N.J.; and Michelle Chaney of Saxton. There is one grandchild. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by one brother. Mr. Chaney was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Dudley. He was a member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disable American Veterans. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Born May 5, 1920, in Munhall, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mathilda (Miller) Wagner. She was united in marriage to Russell Edwin Waterman, Sept. 12, 1945, in Bethel Park, by the Rev. Murray Reiter. Mr. Watetman preceded her in death Sept. 7, 1991. She is survived by three daughters; Jeanne W. Smith, Plaistow, N.H.; Claire W. Barnes, Sykesville, Md.; and Elaine W. White, Westminster, Md. There are six grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Morrison, and a brother, William Wagner Mrs. Waterman was a member of Twelfth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. She was formerly a member of Standing Stone Art League, Huntingdon County Arts Council and Huntingdon County Literacy Council. Primarily a homemaker, she enjoyed painting in pastels and watercolors in her studio at home, as well as at other venues. She enjoyed painting portraits of her family and their pets and had won awards for her work at Standing Stone Art League and Huntingdon County Arts Council-sponsored exhibits. Interment will be made in Williamsville, N.Y. Mary Elizabeth PORTER, 87, of R.R. 1, Box 214, Petersburg, died at 2:10 am. Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at Huntingdon Manor, Warm Springs Avenue, Huntingdon, where she had resided since May 2002. Born June 13, 1915, in West Township, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late J. Harry and Esther (Bell) Stewart. She was united in marriage to Wesley A. Porter Nov. 24, 1937, at the bride’s home in West Township, by the Rev. Joseph G. Rigby. Mr. Porter survives at their home. One son, Vernon H. Porter, Petersburg, R.R. 1, survives. There are two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Ruth Spicher of Belleville. Two sisters and one brother preceded her in death; Margaret Schucker, Louise Hoffer and T. Campbell Stewart. Mrs. Porter was a member of Mooresville United Methodist Church where she was very active, serving as Sunday School teacher and church treasurer. A graduate of the vocational High School, Petersburg, she also graduated from the Altoona School of Commerce. She had been employed by the former J.C. Blair Company, Huntingdon; then for a number of years in the office of Paul Trout, CPA, Lancaster. She retired as a clerk from the office of the Huntingdon County Commissioners. Jack Reed TROY, 63, of Delmont, formerly of Murrysville, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Born Aug. 30, 1939, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Orvin W. and Sarah Belva (Reed) Troy. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Ann (Stinson) Troy. Four children survive; Mrs. Dave (Dana) Bennett, Mount Dora. Fla.; Steve Troy, Pembroke Pines, Fla.; Ruben Troy, North Huntingdon; and Debbie Slone, Export. There are 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Troy. He was a retired school teacher of 36 years, retiring from the Penn Trafford High School. Private interment will be made in the Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. Orville E. "Peanut" BORST, 71, PO. Box 147, Petersburg, died at 9:11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. His death was unexpected. Born May 3. 1931. in Alexandria. he was the son of the late Lewis and Esther (McCrum) Borst. He married Janet L. Robinson June 18, 1949, in Cumberland, Md. Mrs. Borst survives at the couples home. Mr. Borst is survived by three sons: James E. Borst, Sheffield; Steven E. Borst, Petersburg; and David E. Borst, Alexandria, and seven grandchildren. One brother, Harry L. Borst of Huntingdon, survives. Mr. Borst was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Petersburg, and a former member of the Church Council. He was a member of the Mount Moriah Lodge No. 300 F&AM, Huntingdon; Valley of Altoona, AASR; and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 976, Huntingdon Mr. Borst attended Alexandria public schools with the Class of 1948. In addition to being a self-employed brick mason since age 15, he was a school bus contractor for the Juniata Valley School District for over 40 years, a truck driver for the former Strickler’s Dairy and plant manager for the Petersburg Water Authority for over 30 years. He enjoyed his work and was an avid sports fan. He excelled at baseball, playing for the Petersburg, Shaver’s Creek and Belleville teams in the adult league. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Feb. 21, 1929, in Johnstown, he was a son of the late John A. and Freda (Linninger) Corle. He was united in marriage to the former Norma Green Dec. 26, 1956, in Winchester, Va. Mrs. Corle survives at their Smithfield Township residence. One daughter, Janice E. McClure, PhD., survives at Petersburg, R.R. There are three grandchildren. One brother, Harold A. Corle, Myrtle Beach, S.C., survives. Mr. Corle was an active member of Saint James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Huntingdon, having served as a member of council. He was a member and past president of the Huntingdon Lions Club and a former member and past president of the Lehigh Township Lions Club. He was a member of the Manoquesy Lodge No. 4132 F&AM, Bath. He attended the Johnstown public schools and graduated from Johnstown High School with the Class of 1948. He obtained a bachelor of arts degree from Iuniata College in 1956 and a master of education degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1959. He matriculated to Lehigh University, the University of Northern Arizona and Tufts University. During the Korean Conflict. from 1948-1952, he served with the U.S. Army as a physical education instructor of officer candidates, attaining the rank of corporal with Headquarters Company in the American Theatre of Operations. An educator, he was a teacher in the Butler area schools from 1956-1962. He served as an assistant professor of elementary education at Mansfield State Teacher’s College from 1962-1963. He retired in 1986 from Northampton Area School District as the principal of the Leigh Township School. He enjoyed chair caning and antiques and was an avid college football fan. McConnellstown, Walker Township, died at 3:45 am.Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at The Oaks at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon. Born Sept. 17, 1925, in Mount Union, he was a son of the late Edgar and Justine (Dorman) Manning. He was united in marriage to the former Gretta M. "Pat" Day, Aug. 7, 1948, at Payne AME Church, Huntingdon, by the Rev. Cooper. Mrs. Manning survives at their home. He is survived by two daughters and one son; Alice Y. Lipscomb, Tacoma Park, Md.; Pamela J. Manning, Oxnard, Calif.; and Cmdr. Cameron A. Manning, Boothwyn. There are four grandchildren and one great-grandson. One brother, Benjamin Manning of Huntingdon, survives. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers; Barbara Tyson, Helen McNeal, Mallie Manning and Howard Manning. Mr. Manning was of the Protestant faith. He was a life member of Standing Stone Post 1754 VFW and a member of Frank P Hommon Post No. 24 American Legion, both of Huntingdon. A 1944 graduate of Huntingdon High School, he also graduated from Huntingdon Secretarial School in 1947. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from August 1944-August 1946, and attained the rank of staff sergeant with Co. F., 2nd Battalion of the 372nd Infantry Regiment in the Pacific. He was employed by the federal government, as a Department of the Army civilian, for over three decades and retired from Headquarters, Depot System Command, based at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, in September 1980. From 1971-1973, he was assigned to a Logistics Assistance Office in Zweibruecken, Germany, where he provided guidance and technical assistance to U.S. Army units and depots, maintenance plants and activities throughout the Federal Republic of Germany. Ellen Stever DELBAGGIO, 44, of Spruce Creek, died on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at home, following an extended illness with cancer. Born on May 12, 1958, in Tyrone, she was a daughter of Dr. Richard W. Stever Jr. and Mary Ellen Rorabaugh Jones. She was twice married; first to Melvin "Dave" Reese. On April 13, 1989, in St. Augustine, Fla., she then married Benedict L. DelBaggio Jr., who survives at home. She was a 1976 graduate of Tyrone High School and a 1984 graduate of the Altoona School of Nursing with a diploma in nursing. She proudly served as a nurse at the Tyrone Hospital, the Altoona Hospital, the Lee Hospital, Johnstown, at the Community Nursing Service, and at the Centre Community Surgical Center, State College. Her favorite pastime was entertaining family and friends at her home. All who knew her gained from her acquaintance. In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her sons, Aaron Matthew and his wife, Carrie Reese, of Tyrone, and Ian Chandler Reese, of State College; her stepchildren, Terrance James and his wife, Stephanie DelBaggio, of Tyrone, Benedict L. Born March 30, 1923, in Broad Top City, she was the daughter of the late William and Ellen (Noel) Wright. Mrs. Cutshall was twice married, to Ellis Stevens and Jan Cutshall. BRODE, 78, of Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia formerly of Saxton, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at the retirement center, following an extended illness. Born March 6, 1924, in Puttstown, she was a daughter of the late William G. and Susanne (Dick) Reed. She was united in marriage to Harold D. Brode Aug. 25, 1945, in the Saxton Church of God parsonage. Mr. Erode survives. She is survived by six children; Terry Brode, Camp Hill; Tonia Corbin, Saxton; Carol Barnett, Todd; Judy Chamberlain, York; and Bill Brode and Don Brode, both of Saxton. Interment will be made in Grandview Cemetery, Saxton, R.R. Norman E. SIEMS Sr., 87, died Saturday evening, Feb. 22, 2003, at The Oaks, Westminster Woods, Huntingdon. Mr Siems moved to Westminster Woods from his home on the shore of Canandaigua Lake, N.Y. He was born in Rochester, N.Y., the son of Edward Q. and Alvaretta F. (Rowley) Siems, and lived in its environs for the next 23 years. Martha Jane (Morey) Siems (1916-1974) was a loving, supportive wife and mother. Dolores Anne (Laurelli) Siems (1927-1953) was his second loving wife. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Sally Lauretta and Dr Robert K. Lynch of Monroeville; son and daughter-in-law, Dr Norman E. Jr and Anne Siems, Huntingdon; and daughter, Stephanie Beth Latch, Somerville, N.J. There are seven grandchilddren; Sherri L. Edling, Dr. Laura J. Siems, Beth A. Campbell, Robert K. Lynch Jr., Dr Margaret A. Siems, Cynthia E. Latch and Louis R. Latch; and seven great-grandchildren. His only cousin, Mrs. Richard (Ruth) Batzing, Webster, N.Y., survives. Schooling began in a "oneroom District School" with the same teacher six days per week, i.e., academic and Sunday School. Moving off the farm to a village changed the structure of education to: the grades, junior high, senior high and on to the University of Rochester (BA in chemistry). His first full-time job was with Scarbell Chemical Co., followed by Armour & Co., as salesman. Three years later, he joined Philadelphia Quartz Co. and remained with them for the next 39 years until retirement. The company later changed its name to PQ Corporation and grew to be the largest manufacturer of soluble silicates and silicate derivatives in the world. Mr. Siems filled various posts, such as salesman; technical representative; director and vice president of sales; director of Mexican subsidiary and director and later, president of Canadian subsidiary, National Silicates Ltd., Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Prior to retirement, he served as corporate secretary. He was a dedicated Boy Scout supporter, serving in a number of positions over the years at the local and district levels. He performed dozens of Eagle Scout ceremonies and was awarded Scouting’s coveted Silver Beaver Award. Extensive travel in North America on business was augmented by travel up the Orincos River in Venezuela, and in Central America, Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Barbados and the Philippines. Charles "Sonny" SNYDER, 73, of Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Three Springs, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at his residence, following a prolonged illness. Born May 2, 1929, in Three Springs, he was the son of Charles and Larue (Roles) Snyder, formerly of Three Springs. He is survived by his wife, Mary, of 52 years. There are 12 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Air Force from March 1951 to April 1955. Born May 21, 1910, in Cherrytown, he was the son of the late James C. and Mary (Dorman) Carbaugh. He was united in marriage to the former Edna R. Hoover Oct. 6, 1951. Mr. Carbaugh was preceded in death by brothers Clyde G. Carbaugh, J. Blair Carbaugh and his infant brother, M. Franklin Carbaugh, and by two sisters, Ada Shontz and Dorothy Baker. Mr. Carbaugh was Christian and a life member of the Russellville United Church of Christ where, over the years, he served as superintendent, deacon, elder, choir member and Sunday School teacher. For many years he served as church treasurer. He served as secretary for the Russellville Cemetery Association for many years. Mr. Carbaugh was a high school graduate and World War II veteran, having served with the United States Army for four years in the Philipines. He retired in 1976 from the U.S. Postal Service following 30 years service. He had been the postmaster at the Aitch post office and had been a rural letter carrier He enjoyed gardening, singing, spending time with his family and reading and studying the Bible. Funeral services will be held at 11 am. Friday, Feb. 28, at the Russellville United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Peter Naschke officiating. Interment will be made in Russellville Cemetery. Florence E. THOMAS, 74, of The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg, formerly of Penndel, Bucks County, died Thursday morning, Feb. 27, 2003, at The Village, following a lengthy illness. Born June 23. 1928, in Philadelphia. she was a daughter of the late William H. and Clarissa Edna (Osbom) Kettle. She was married to Anthony G. Thomas who preceded her in death. Two sons survive; William Brennan, Bristol, and George Thomas of Ohio. There are two grandsons and one great-grandson. She is also survived by a sister, Joan A. Bonnema of Shade Gap, two nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Kettle; a brother, William Kettle; a grandson. Benjamin Thomas; and a nephew, Edward Bonnema Jr. Mrs. Thomas was of the Protestant faith. A 1946 graduate of Frankford High School, Philadelphia, she was a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing. A brief funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at the John C. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., 111 E. Allegheny St., Martinsburg, with Pastor Floyd H. Mitchell officiating. Interment will be made in White Chapel Gardens, Feasterville. Mabel I. PARK, 96, formerly of 123 13th St., Huntingdon, died at 10:25 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at The Oaks at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon, where she had resided for the past five years. Born September 10, 1906, in Entriken, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Bessie Jane (Morningstar) Cunningham. She was united in marriage to Frederic S. Park who preceded her in death Sept. 30, 1969. Three sons and one daughter survive; Frederic S. Park, Marlton, N.J.; Arthur B. Park, Pittsburgh: Douglas F Park. Driftwood; and Karen Sue Jermyn, Crestwood. N.Y. There are seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by two sisters; Pearl Brindle and Ella Mae Baker, and one brother, Paul Cunningham. Mrs. Park was a member of Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. At one time she had been active with the Standing Stone Senior Citizens. She retired as a bookkeeper and admissions clerk from JC. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, following 16 years service. Funeral services will be held at 10 am. Monday, March 3, at the Robert E. Ruth Boal STINSON, 92, of Edgewater Park, N.J., died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003. Born in Smithfield, she was the daughter of John N. and Florence (Hawn) Boal. She was the wife of the late Harold E. Stinson. She is survived by a brother, John Boal of Morehead City, N.C.. and the following nieces and nephews; Sandy Kraus, Colleen McWilliams, Patricia Barney, James Shugert, Kelly McCahan, Thomas McCahan, John McCahan, Michael McCahan. Mrs. Stinson was a longtime member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Rancocas Road, Burlington. N.J. She graduated from Huntingdon High School and Juniata College. She then graduated from Temple University, Philadelphia, and Duke University in Durham. N.C. Mrs. Stinson was a teacher for the Burlington City schools, having taught over 25 years, retiring in 1974. A memorial service will be held at 10 am. Saturday March 1 at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, 245 Standing Stone Ave., Huntingdon, at 11 am.
