George Fouts died at his home in Ellisville, Illinois, at twenty minutes of 4 Sunday afternoon, September 24, 1899. The funeral service was held in the Christian church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, the Odd Fellows having charge of the ceremonies and Rev. E. W. Irons preaching the sermon. Burial took place in Ellisville cemetery. The following brother and sisters survive: Fleda Fouts, of Bellwood, Blair county, Pa.; Mrs. A. T. Shore, Santa Ana, Orange county, Cal.; Mrs. E. Shaffer, of Shelly, Iowa; Mrs. Rachel Manley, of Lewistown, Fulton county, Ill., William H. Fouts, of Canton, Fulton county, Ill. George Fouts was born in Huntingdon county, Pa., February 18, 1826. He was married to Eliza M. Shafer, November 14, 1850, and together they moved to Illinois in the spring of 1852. To them were born fourteen children, six of whom with the wife and mother survive to mourn his departure. The surviving children are: Mrs. Emma Kuter, of Esmond; George Fouts and Mrs. Ella Staton of Lewistown; Mrs. Agnes Hearn, Mrs. Flora Jenkins, Mrs. Clara Jenkins, Sherman Fouts and Frank Fouts of the vicinity of Ellisville. John Fouts of that place was a twin brother. Deceased was a member of the United German Reformed church, having united with it when about 16 years of age. He was also an Odd Fellow, having joined that order in Ellisville in 1856, and therefore was the oldest Odd Fellow in point of membership of any one in that lodge. A good man has gone to his reward, and the community of which he was a resident unites in its expression of sympathy to the immediate family and near relatives in their great loss.
