Viola (Scott) Frye, 79, of River Road, Porter Township, Alexandria, died at 12:48 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at the home of her longtime beloved companion, Marlin Keith, in Newton Hamilton, following an extended illness. Born July 23, 1926, in Penn Township, James Creek, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Hazel Alice (Harris) Scott. She was united in marriage to Samuel Frye for 42 years. Mr. Frye preceded her in death. In addition to her companion, Mrs. Frye is survived by three daughters, Betty L. Bollinger and husband, Ronald; Judy A. Steightiff and companion, David K. Goodman Sr., all of Huntingdon; and Beverly J. Irvin and husband, Dr. John Irvin, Bluebell; and seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister and three brothers, Pearl Hurley, Heath, OH; Roy Scott, Marklesburg; Bill Scott, McConnellstown; and Paul Scott, Thomasville. Mrs. Frye was a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter No. 220, Huntingdon; and the home associations of the Frank P. Hommon American Legion Post No. 24 and Standing Stone VFW Post No. 1754, both of Huntingdon. She attended one of the first classes at the Huntingdon High School and attended classes in the one room Bower's School House in Penn Township. Mrs. Frye was employed with Owens-Corning Fiberglas, Petersburg Manufacturing Company and the Arrow Shirt Factory for a number of years. She later retired from the Penn State Cooperative Extension Office, where she served for many years as a home nutrition aide. A lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, she dearly enjoyed spending time in her flower gardens and loved to dance and play bingo. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 1, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, 207 Ridge Road, Smithfield Township, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Myers Kimmel and the Rev. Franklin Moist officiating. Interment will be made in the Old Stone Church Cemetery, Penn Township. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, April 30, where the Women of the Moose Chapter No. 220 will conduct a memorial service at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Home Nursing Agency Hospice, 900 Bryan St., Suite 7, Huntingdon, PA 16652.
