Greenland was born Feb. 23rd, 1875 in Altoona, Blair county, Pa., and passed to the great beyond May 26th, 1924 at the close of the day, at his home, near Calvin, Huntingdon county, Pa., at the age of 49 years, 3 months and 3 days. He was the son of Barton and Susan Baird Greenland, both deceased. In October, 1898 he was united in marriage to Miss Amey B. Pheasant, who with one son, Vincent, survives. Two daughters dying in Infancy, also by the following brothers and sisters, Miss Laura, Edwin and Curtis Greenland, Mrs. Margery Wright all of Coalfax, Mrs. Walter Kurtz of Huntingdon, Mrs. Letitia Mattingly of Altoona. For several years he has been in failing health from heart trouble, yet continued in active farm life, until death claimed him. Mr. Greenland belonged to one of the oldest and most highly esteemed families in this community. His entire life was lived in our valley except a few years residence in Altoona and Duncanville. He was a man of many likeable qualities and was much respected by all who knew him. As a husband and father he was as kind as the kindest. As a citizen he was upright and honest. But he is gone, his place in the family circle is vacant, his wise counsel which was always sought by his loving wife and son is ended except in memory. He was a member of the M.E. church, also, assistant superintendent of the Sunday School at the time of his death was always much interested in all church and social activities, and lived a consistent christian life, was also a member of the grange. The funeral was held Thursday and was largely attended by relatives, neighbors and friends, who come to pay tribute or respect, to a man who always played a man's part in the game of life. Funeral services conducted by Rev's Bibson, Cox, and Birdsell. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. Interment in cemetery at Baptist church.
