Although he had not been in the best of health for a couple of years, he was confined to his bed only two weeks. Last Sunday morning he lapsed into a coma and remained in that state until his death. Jacob Hall was a son of Mitchell and Barbara Hall, both deceased, and was born in Wittenburg, Germany, June 2, 1849; at the time of his death he was aged 84 years, 9 months and 17 days. At the age of 17 he came to America, intending to go into the Broad Top fields to mine coal. He arrived in Huntingdon in the evening and stopped with some German friends, who persuaded him to give up the plan of coal mining, and take up the trade of shoemaking here, which he had learned in Germany. He worked in numerous shoe shops in Huntingdon, and operated his own shop for many years on Sixth street adjoining the Baptist church. Five years ago he retired. Mr. Hall was a consistent member of the Fifteenth Street M. E church, and attended church services regularly so long as his health would permit. He was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Zilius, at Huntingdon, on Jan. 9, 1873. Surviving are his wife and the following children: Mrs. Maggie Goodman, of Altoona; Mrs. L. A. Burris and Mrs. H. F. Doede, both of Harrisburg; John Hall of Hartslog Valley; William Hall, Mrs. Andrew States, Mrs. H. L. Minsker, Mrs. Luthor Kylor and Mrs. Cloyd Foster, all of Huntingdon. Two sons and one daughter are deceased, George Hall and Charles Hall, and Mrs. John Watson, who died about four months ago. Also surviving are forty-two grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his family. Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from Brown's funeral home, conducted by his pastor, Rev. O. B. Poulson. Interment in Riverview cemetery. The remains may be viewed at Browns at any time until the funeral hour.
