All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm __________________________________________ John Richard 'Doc' Hammond, Sr. John Richard "Doc" Hammond, Sr., age 89, of 10483 Sleppys Hollow Lane, Barree Township, Petersburg, died Saturday, September 3, 2005 at 8:30 a.m. at his residence. He was born October 11, 1915 in West Township, Petersburg, a son of the late David Franklin and Lulu Viola (Locke) Hammond. On January 23, 1937 he married Florence Ruth Harnish in Cumberland, Maryland. He enjoyed a long time, loving marriage of 68 years. Mrs. Hammond survives at the couples' Barree Township home. Also surviving are children: Sara Jane Bledsoe and her husband John of Lindale, TX., John Richard Hammond Jr. and his wife Nancy of Tyrone, Betty Ann LaCavera and her companion Donald Case of Dover, De., Lloyd Franklin Hammond and his wife Emily of Petersburg, Daniel Lee Hammond of Boalsburg and Sandra Louise Kelly and her husband Bill of Martinez, Ga.; sisters: Cecile Mae Port of Petersburg, Annabelle Louise Foster of Petersburg and Joyce Elizabeth Burket of Tyrone. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, more than 22 great- grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Nathaniel Hammond on May 28, 2005; three brothers, William, Lester and Roy Hammond and two sisters, Vera Brenneman and Rena Hoffer. He had been a longtime farm manager at Fairfield Farms (J. W. Swigart) and was highly respected for his dairy herd management. He was of the Methodist faith, a life member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Alexandria Sportsman's Club, Rock Springs Shooting Club, Altoona Rifle and Pistol Club, Fort Roberdeau Rifle Club and Pennsylvania Trapper's Association. He was an avid hunter, trapper and a marksman with master level shooting skills. He also enjoyed hand loading and experimenting with ammunition and at-home gun repairs. Mr. Hammond was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and since August 2003 at his Barree Township home. He had traveled and visited most states and landmarks in the U.S. and Canada from coast to coast. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Juniata Valley Chapel, 412 Main Street, Alexandria, Pa. 16611. Pastor Joleen Willis will officiate. Interment will be at Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery.
