Hanawalt, of Coalmont, was brought to the Blair Memorial hospital on Saturday, March 15, and died on Friday morning last at 6:55 from an operation performed for appendicitis and complications. He was a son of John S. and Mary L. Hanawalt, and was born near Mapleton on February 23, 1856. He was united in marriage to Sadie Donelson, a daughter of Samuel and Amy Donelson, of Coalmont. He was a coal miner and followed the occupation many years in the vicinity of Coalmont. Surviving are his wife and four daughters: Mrs. Elva, wife of Horace Corbin; Mrs. Amy, wife of Charles Bollinger; Mrs. Laura, widow of Clarence Hight; Mrs. James Swartzwelder, all of Coalmont. He is also survived by four sisters and two brothers, namely Mrs. James Thompson and Edgar Hanawalt, both of Harrisburg; Mrs. Samuel Kreider, of Enola; Mrs. Amos White, of Huntingdon; Mrs. Laura Abbot, of Dudley; William J. Hanawalt, of Dudley. The deceased was a member of the M. E. church. The funeral was held on Sunday forenoon, with burial at Coalmont. Altoona Tribune, Tuesday Morning, March 25, 1919
