All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm __________________________________________ Antoinette Hancock Antoinette "Toni" Hancock, 79, of 16390 Hill Valley Road, Mount Union, died on Monday, February 25, at the Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital. The Funeral Mass was conducted on Thursday, February 28 at St. Catherine's Parish, Mount Union, with Fr. George Koharchik officiating. Interment was made in St. Catherine Cemetery, Shirleysburg. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. She was born on May 13, 1928 in Mount Union and she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anella M. "Nellie" (Ambrosino) Imperioli. Mrs. Hancock is survived by her husband, Daniel Hancock, whom she married on January 1, 1983, at the St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Mount Union by Fr. Paul Thomas and a son, Dennis R. Boggs of Lexington, KY. Also surviving are the following step children: Daniel B. Hancock Jr. of Little Kansas, McVeytown; Jane Suchan and husband, John of Hill Valley, Mount Union; Tom Hancock and wife, Fredda of Hill Valley, Mount Union and Connie Gladfelter and husband, Jay of Hill , Valley, Mount Union. And one brother survives, Nicholas M. Imperioli and wife, Cinda of Country Club Road, Mount Union. She was a graduate of Mount Union High School, Class of 1946. Mrs. Hancock was employed by L. Greif Bros. Mfg. Mount Union, for a time before beginning her career with The Daily News in September 1, 1962, where she worked as a reporter, writing on the "community news" and as office manager of the Mount Union Times office, serving in these capacities for over forty years. This included attending and reporting on the Mount Union Borough Council, the school district, and the different authority meetings. She also covered many events that occurred in the Shirleysburg, Orbisonia and Shade Gap areas. During her reporting career, she had the occasion to be involved in stories that affected many of the county residents and businesses, including the Flood of 1972, that prompted a variety of meetings. Of national interest was the Peggy Ann Bradnick kidnapping that brought many newspaper and magazine reporters to the Mount Union area. Mrs. Hancock was widely recognized as evidenced by the number of awards she received: the Knights of Columbus Outstanding Citizen (first woman to receive it); honorary member of the Mount Union Fire Co.; Simpson-Hunt American Legion Post #107 Outstanding Citizen Award; honorary Chapter Farmer of Captain Jack FFA of Mount Union Area High School; Mount Union Area High School District Excellence in Reporting and a similar award from the Tuscarora Intermediate Unit #11 and Grand Italian Lodge Award for dedication to the Sons of Italy Lodge #1257. She had served as vice president of the Mount Union Area Chamber of Commerce; is a life member of the Mount Union Area Alumni Assn.; held memberships in the American Red Cross Chapter in Mount Union, the Bricktown Seniors, the Mount Union Historical Society, the Mount Union Kiwanis Club and served on the review committee for the revitalization grant program in the Mount Union Council. Mrs. Hancock was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Mount Union; had served on the St. Catherine's Parish Council and had been a member of the Catholic Daughters, Mount Union Chapter.
