"Dan" Hancock, Sr., 86 of 16390 Hill Valley, Mount Union, died at 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, March 2, at his home. He has been in failing health for the past three years. The funeral service was held on Thursday, March 6, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. Officiating was Pastor Rich Morris and interment was made in the Haven Rest Memorial, Shirleysburg. He was born on December 8, 1921, in Hill Valley and was the son of the late Tone L. and Edith (Bard) Hancock. He was first married to Betty A. (Mentzer) Hancock on December 23, 1946 in Hagerstown, MD. She preceded him in death on December 30, 1978. His second marriage was to Antoinette "Toni" (Imperioli) Hancock on January 8, 1983, in Mount Union. She preceded him in death on February 25, 2008. Mr. Hancock is also survived by the following children: Daniel B. Hancock, Jr. of Little Kansas, McVeytown; Carolyn Jane Suchan and husband John of Hill Valley; Tom Hancock and wife Fredda of Hill Valley; Connie Gladfelter and husband Jay of Hill Valley and one stepson, Dennis R. Boggs of Lexington, KY. Also there are four grandchildren: Amy Suchan Stone of Conestoga; Tammy Hancock Wilson of Hill Valley; John Daniel Suchan of Mount Union and Mathew M. Suchan of Hill Valley. and there are also six great- grandchildren. Mr. Hancock is also survived by the following two brothers and one sister: Fred M. Hancock of Mount Union; George W. Hancock of Johnstown and Rachel Keith of Orbisonia. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters: John L Hancock, Sr.; Wilmer 0. Hancock; Betty Kelly; Amanda Ford and Thomas Hancock. Mr. Hancock attended the Shirley Twp. School and Mount Union High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, having participated in the European Theatre of Operations. In his early years he had worked for Harbison-Walker Refractories, Mount Union and as a foreman for PennDot for many years. More recently he was employed by Mashuta Construction for a number of years and following that as a CART driver for the Huntingdon Fulton Bedford County Area Agency on Aging before retirement. Mr. Hancock was a lifetime member of, both the Madden-Wennick Post American Legion, Orbisonia and the Blue Juniata V.F.W. Post 5754, Mount Union. he was a former Huntingdon County Republican Committeeman. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, gardening and playing horseshoes. He also enjoyed old time country music guitar playing and was especially fond of his dog, "Simon." Mr. Hancock was a member of the Singer's Gap Methodist Church, Hill Valley.
