Horne, 90, a resident of the Long Term Care Unit of the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, and formerly of Hustontown, died Thursday afternoon, January 22, 2009 at the medical center. Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 25, at the Walnut Grove Church of God, RD, Three Springs, with Rev. Kenneth Cornelius and Pastor Travis Mellott officiating. Interment was made in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the M. R. Brown Funeral Home, 301 Pitt Street, Hustontown. He was born September 16, 1918 in. Mount Union, Huntingdon County and he was the son of the late Miles T. Horne and Myrtle Anderson. He was married to Geraldine N. Brown on March 26, 1940. His wife of 62 years, preceded in death on March 21, 2003. Mr. Horne is survived by five children: Dolores Swope and husband Lester and Bonnie Houck and husband Merrill, both of Chambersburg; Fred Horne and wife Sharon and Ronald Horne and wife Nancy both of Hustontown and Donald Horne and wife Panda of Fort Littleton. There are 15 grandchildren, two step grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by six half sisters: Lillian Cowan, Orbisonia; Madeline Garland, McConnellsburg; Kay Rosenberry, Hustontown and June Sellers, Eunice Seville and Virginia Finley, all of Chambersburg. Mr. Horne is preceded in death by four half sisters and three half brothers. He was a member of the Walnut Grove Church of God, RD, Three Springs. He had served as a deacon, elder, superintendent and Sunday School teacher. He also sang in the Men's Group of the church. In' addition, he was a member of Gideons International, Fulton County Camp. Mr. Horne had owned and operated Miles Horne and Sons Plumbing and Heating, Hustontown from 1975 until his retirement in 1997. Prior to that he had worked for McKelvey Oil Co., DeShong Oil and Gas Co. and Lewis Metzler, all of Harrisonville. He had also worked for Keystone Grate and Blower Works, Chambersburg and in earlier years had been a truck driver and coal miner. Mr. Horne was fond of the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting.
