Hoffman of Billings, Montana, formerly of Saxton R.D., died suddenly of a heart attack at his Montana home on Tuesday, November 2, 1948. He was born on May 3, 1895, in Coalmont, a son of Sylvester and Mary (Lowery) Hoffman. His survivors include his parents of Saxton R.D.; his wife, Mrs. Cora Hoffman of McKees Rocks; and these children: Kenneth Hoffman, Kansas; Charles, Maxine and George Hoffman, all of McKees Rocks; Leroy Lewin Hoffman and Guy Lewin, both of Detroit, Michigan; and James Lewin of Renton, Pa. These sisters and brothers also survive: Mrs. Cora Rogers of Saxton R.D.; Mrs. Mae Willison of Saxton; Mrs. Hazel Stiffler, Braddock, and Cloyd Hoffman, Saxton. The funeral service will be at two o'clock on Sunday afternoon in Huff's funeral chapel at Saxton. The Rev. Harold Knoll will officiate and burial will be made in the Odd Fellows Cemetery at Dudley. The body will arrive in Altoona at 12:15 a.m. Sunday and friends may call at the funeral chapel after 9:30 o'clock until the hour of the service on Sunday. Elmer Leroy Holmes, son of Harold W. and Mary Catherine (States) Holmes, died at the parental home, Huntingdon, R.D. 1, on Wednesday, January 22, 1941, at 10:30 o'clock, of croup. The child was born on June 26, 1939, hence was aged at the time of death one year, six months and twenty-six days. Members of the family include the parents and one brother, Harold Celithual Holmes, at home. The child's name was recorded on the cradle roll of the McConnellstown Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the McConnellstown Methodist church with the Rev. Paul Rowland officiating. Interment will be made in the McConnellstown cemetery by Bechtel's funeral service. The body may be viewed at the home of the grandmother, Mrs. T.J. Powell, Huntingdon R.D.1, until 2 o'clock Saturday, when it will be taken to the church for services. Samuel Lester Hoover, 1532 Park Boulevard, Pittsburgh, died suddenly of a heart attack at 2 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, 1944. Death occurred while Mr. Hoover was driving his automobile to a drug store in Pittsburgh. News of his death came as a great shock to his family and friends. Mr. Hoover was to have come here today to accompany his wife back to Pittsburgh, she having been a guest of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold M. Lloyd, McConnellstown Road. Mr. Hoover was born in McConnellstown, Huntingdon County, on December 8, 1894, the son of Samuel Hoover and Mary Housholder Hoover. On December 31, 1919, he was united in marriage to Mary Etta Lloyd of Philadelphia. Surviving are his wife and two sons: Robert Lloyd Hoover, serving with the First Reconnaissance Troop of the First Division, who was wounded in the recent invasion and is now in a hospital in England; and James Samuel Hoover at home. Other survivors are two sisters: Mrs. Jean Charles, Pittsburgh; and Mrs. Frank Price, California; and a brother, Earl Hoover of Pittsburgh. Mr. Hoover was a member of the Methodist Church and of the Masonic Order. In World War I Mr. Hoover served for a period of eighteen months in France and Belgium. For many years he was identified with the manufacturing business, having been officially connected with the following large concerns: J.B. Ford Company, Michigan; the Baer Manufacturing Corporation of New York for whom he had charge of the Philadelphia territory; the Carborundum Corporation of America, and the Cleveland Twist Drill Company of Detroit. He labored earnestly and faithfully to maintain a fine citizenship and leaves a large circle of friends who will mourn his passing. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at Brown's funeral home, the Rev. Hobart D. McKeehan in charge. Interment will be made in the McConnellstown Cemetery. The body may be viewed at the funeral home after two o'clock Thursday. John Horniak, aged 81 years, was found dead on the farm of his son-in-law, John Suba, near Entriken, on Thursday afternoon, February 10, 1944, about 5 o'clock, by a member of the Suba family. The aged man had left the house about 2 o'clock in the afternoon and when he did not return at the time expected, a member of the family found him dead in the field. He was apparently in good health when he left the home. Dr. H.S. Floyd of Marklesburg was summoned by members of the family and stated that death was due to a heart attack. Coroner E. Blair Shore of Huntingdon also conducted an investigation and found that death resulted from natural causes. He was born in Austria-Hungary on July 28, 1862, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Horniak. At time of death he was 81 years, 6 months, and 13 days. His wife, Mrs. Barko Talabos Horniak, preceded him in death. Surviving are two daughters and three sons: Julia, Mrs. John Suba, with whom he made his home; Mrs. Bertha Plutano, Creighton, Pa.; George Horniak, and Paul Horniak, both of Lorain, Ohio; and John Horniak, Talmage, California. Funeral mass will be offered in the Russian-Greek Orthodox Church in Wood on Saturday morning, the Rev. Fr. Hanchar officiating. Interment will be made in the Russian-Greek Orthodox Cemetery at Wood. Friends may call at the Suba residence and at Huff's funeral chapel, Saxton. Philip A. Horton, a lifelong resident of Trough Creek Valley passed away at the age of 80years, 5 months and 17 days at 3:30 o'clock Saturday p.m. October 16, 1943, in the home of his son Glenn, near Newburg , with whom he resided since the death of his wife in March 1939. Mr. Horton followed the occupation of farming, though a teacher in the public schools earlier in life. He was an influential citizen, a regular attendant at Sunday School when a boy, consecrating his life to God at the early age of 12 years. He was faithful to his convictions and greatly interested in Church work, holding different offices. He was sincere in the discharge of Church duties. Mr. Horton was a secretary of the board of trustees for many consecutive years, a teacher in Sunday School, not only by precept but by example. In his home he was a kind and devoted husband and father, esteemed by his neighbors and friends. The different township offices he held reflect his interest and pride in civic welfare. He was married to Alberta Vance Houck, on October 25, 1887 by the Rev. J.M. Johnston, at Huntingdon. To this union were born three children: Mrs. Estella Cunningham, Tyrone R.D.; Mrs. Edith Grubb, Aitch, Pa.; and W. Glenn Horton of Aitch R.D. Also surviving is one sister Mrs. Zetta McClain, Columbus, Ohio, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held in the Newburg Methodist Church Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock, the Rev. John Hoover pastor of the church, officiating and the Rev. C.W. Fields, nephew of the deceased, of 5th Street Methodist Church, Harrisburg delivered the message from the 23rd Psalm. Interment was made in the Newburg Cemetery by McClain's funeral service. Mrs. Mary L. Hurley of Entriken died at 3:30 p.m. yesterday, Dec. 30, 1947. She was born in Salter on Sept. 16, 1895, the daughter of Raymond R. and Ella (Brode) Maloney. Surviving are a son, Raymond E. Hurley of Entriken; a sister, Mrs. Harvey Stone of Williamsburg; and two brothers, Franklin E. Maloney of Entriken and Earl C. Maloney of Huntingdon. Mrs. Hurley was a member of the Entriken Methodist Church. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Robert E. Huff funeral chapel, Saxton. The Rev. Richard Reed will officiate. Burial will be in Entriken Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel. Mrs. Jane Moore Huyette, wife of the Rev. Charles A. Huyette, pastor of the Evangelical and Reformed Church at Marklesburg, passed away at 9:25 p.m., May 4, 1943, in the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. She had been in failing health for some time. Mrs. Huyette was born December 17, 1873, in Scotch Valley, the daughter of William R. Moore and Alvenia Ray Moore, both of whom preceded her in death. She was united in marriage on October 7, 1909, to the Rev. Charles A. Huyette and faithfully took up her duties as a pastor's wife, devoting much time and energy in Christian activities. She was deeply interested in the work of the church, especially in all missionary activities and was constantly striving to interest young women and girls in guild work. Mrs. Huyette was a woman of fine Christian character. She was possessed of a lovable personality and enjoyed the admiration of the congregation in her husband's charge. Survivors include her husband, two brothers, William P. Moore of Zellwood, Fla., and Walter C. Moore, Tyrone R.D.1, and one sister, Mrs. John D. Crawford of Tyrone R.D.1. Also surviving are two nieces and one nephew. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Evangelical and Reformed Church, Marklesburg. Interment will be made in the cemetery at Arch Spring, Blair County. Friends are being received at the Robert E. Huff Funeral Chapel, Saxton until noon tomorrow. Kathleen Johns Ickes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Johns, passed away on May 21, 1943. Mrs. Sarah Margaret Isett of Hesston R.D., wife of J. Guy Isett, died at her home on Saturday, December 28, 1946, at 4 p.m. Daughter of Robert G. and Rebecca Ann Rice, she was born in Donnelly Mills, Perry county, on April 23, 1882. On August 26, 1897, she was married to James Guy Isett at Marklesburg. Her husband and fifteen children survive: Mrs. Joseph Norris, Mrs. Philip Norris, Mrs. Kenneth Garner, Mrs. Robert Gosnell, Harvey, John, Harold, Clair, Merle, Allen, Paul, Gladys, Warren, Ellouise, and Ralph Isett. One daughter, Evelyn, is deceased. There are also these survivors: three sisters and a brother, Mrs. Howard Jenson of Wilton, Maine, Mrs. Samuel Carper, Mrs. George Knode and Allen Rice, all of Akron Ohio; 28 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mrs. Isett was a member of the Methodist Church. The Rev. Kenneth Gombert and the Rev. Harold Knoll will conduct the funeral service at the Isett home at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in the Stone Church Cemetery, Marklesburg. Friends are being received at the Isett home. Homer Bechtel funeral service. Bunyan D. Johnston, aged 67 years, 11 months and 19 days, died at his home, Lockport, Mifflin County, on Saturday morning, July 3, 1943, at 4:35 o'clock. He and his wife resided there with their daughter, Mrs. Randall W. Leopold, the past two years. His health declined last year, making him bedfast since June 8. Born in McConnellstown, Huntingdon County, July 22, 1875, he was a son of the late John S. and Rachel Lloyd Johnston. Surviving are his wife, the former Ella Heffner of McConnellstown, and two sons and three daughters: Donald S. Johnston, Lewistown; Private Dick W. Johnston, Camp Knob, Calif.; Mrs. Russell G (Lillian) Snyder, Lewistown; Mrs. George A. (Kathryn) Port, Mifflintown; Mrs. Randall W. (LoRene) Leopold, Lockport. Nine grandchildren are living. For 17 years Mr. Johnston was an employee of the American Viscose Corporation, seven years in the reeling department and 10 years as caretaker of Camp Rayona, Seven Mountains. He was a member of Grove Memorial Methodist Church. Funeral services were held at the Fretz Funeral Home in Lewistown this Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial is in Mount Rock Cemetery at Lewistown. Mrs. Catherine K. Johnson died at her home in Marklesburg on Monday afternoon, Feb. 9, 1948, at 2 o'clock. Death came after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Johnson was born in Scranton, Pa., on September 7, 1886, a daughter of Goswin Keiper and Anna Mary (Gerhardt) Keiper. She was united in marriage to Charles Johnson at Altoona on Nov. 25, 1914. She is survived by her husband; two children, Howard and Marie Johnson, at home; two step-children, Charles Johnson of Entriken and Mrs. Arthur Stapleton of Johnstown; one brother and one sister, F.G. Keiper of Altoona and Mrs. Wilbur Fleegal of Duncansville. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Marklesburg Lutheran church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late home, conducted by the Rev. Harold Knoll. Interment will be made in the Union Cemetery at Marklesburg, directed by Huff's funeral service. Friends may call at the late home after 10 o'clock Wednesday forenoon. Mrs. Keturah P. (Fouse) Ketterman, for many years the Daily News correspondent for Entriken, where she had spent her entire life, died in the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital at 9 a.m. on Monday, August 16, 1943, after a brief illness. Mrs. Ketterman was a well-known and highly respected citizen of Entriken and shared with her husband, John H. Ketterman, a county - wide reputation for hospitality. Her passing leaves a vacancy in the life of her community, which will be hard to fill. She was born in Marklesburg on November 16, 1887, the daughter of William Fouse and Martha (Shell) Fouse. At time of death she was aged 56 years and 9 months. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, John H. Ketterman, and one daughter, Mrs. Archie Carbaugh of Entriken, R.D. One son and one daughter preceded her in death. Also surviving are two brothers, S. Herman Fouse of Aliquippa, and William Lester Fouse of Entriken. She became affiliated with the Evangelical and Reformed Church in early life and held her membership until her death. She was active and earnest in her religious responsibilities. During the last few years of her life she was affiliated with the Sunday school in the Methodist Church, Entriken, and taught a class for some time. She was a member of the board of directors of the Huntingdon County Department of Public Assistance and was faithful and loyal in her work with the United Service Organization. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the late residence in Entriken, the Rev. Mr. Myers, pastor of the Methodist church of Marklesburg, and the Rev. Clarence Huyette, pastor of the Evangelical and Reformed Church, Marklesburg, officiating. Interment will be made in the Entriken Cemetery by Huff's funeral service. Friends may call at the late residence. Sgt. Charles E. Kienast, was killed in action, at the Remagen Bridge, on March 11, 1945. Albert Koontz of 822 Mifflin Street, Huntingdon, succumbed to a heart attack at 11:20 p.m. on November 8, 1945, while at his home. He had been in poor health for some time, having had a previous heart attack in January and another in October. He was a diligent worker and a familiar figure to the people of this community. For a number of years he had operated a shoe repair shop on Seventh Street and was known as a likable and obliging person. He was born on June 2, 1899, in Berlin, PA. Surviving are his wife, Mabel Lydia (Livengood) Koontz, and five sons: Ray, by a former marriage who is now living in Everett; Robert, Samuel and David; and Bkr2c Ralph Koontz, who is serving in the Navy. Also surviving are these brothers and sisters: Christ Koontz of Somerset; Sylvester Koontz, Somerset; Charles Koontz of Jerome; Harry Koontz, Cue Creek; and Eliza and Ida, both of whom are married and living in Meyersdale. Mr. Koontz was a member of the Lutheran Church. The funeral will be held Sunday at four o'clock in Brown's funeral parlor and interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery. The Rev. G.E. Kelly will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home. Mrs. Vina May Lang of McConnellstown, widow of A. Stewart Lang, died in the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital at 11 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1947. Born on Nov. 24, 1878, in Hopewell, Bedford County, she was the daughter of David and Margaret (Stinson) Fraker. She was married to A. Stewart Lang on Dec. 10, 1899, in McConnellstown. Mr. Lang died on Jan. 22, 1926. Three children are surviving: Lawrence Lang, McConnellstown; Mrs. Carl Shilling, Petersburg; and Mrs. Homer Curfman, Hesston. There are seven grandchildren. She was a member of the McConnellstown Evangelical and Reformed Church all of her adult life. She was earnest in her Christian beliefs and gave her full support to the work of the church. She belonged to the Ladies Aid and the Ladies Bible Class. Active in the work of the organization, she was the last surviving charter member of the McConnellstown Grange No. 1001. She also belonged to the Parent-Teachers Association. She carried the esteem of the community in which she lived. The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Evangelical and Reformed Church, McConnellstown. The Rev. Elmer E. Fahringer of Summit Station will officiate. Interment will be made in the McConnellstown Cemetery. Friends will be received at the late residence until 10 a.m. Saturday and after that time at the church. Huff funeral service. Major Esley Taylor Lake, M.D., former resident of McConnellstown and veteran of World War 1, passed away at the Bay Pine Hospital, Florida, Saturday, August 28, 1943, and will be buried Thursday, September 2, at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C. Dr. Lake had been a patient at the hospital for almost a year, suffering from a severe heart ailment. He was a resident of Tampa for the past twenty years and previous to that time lived for one year at McConnellstown. He was the husband of Estella Houck Lake, who passed away in Florida eleven years ago. Dr. Lake is survived by his second wife Lydia and one son to his former marriage, Cpl. Julian R. Lake of the U.S. Air Service. He is also survived by two brothers, Albert and Edgar of Pitcairn, and one sister, Mrs. Alice Webster of Reading, Mass. Dr. Lake is the brother-in-law of Mrs. G.M. Householder of Pitcairn, Miss Alice R. Houck, Mrs. George A. Hunter and Mrs. H.H. Morgan of Pittsburgh. Jay Dee Laughlin, 523 Twenty-second Avenue, Altoona, died yesterday evening, August 13, 1947, at 6:45 o'clock at his residence. He was born in McConnellstown on Oct. 13, 1897, the son of Edward and Grace (Bupp) Laughlin. Mr. Laughlin was an employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad for over 30 years as an electric welder in the steel shop. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church. He belonged to the Logan Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, #490, Harrisburg Consistory and the Jaffa Shrine. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruth (Price) Laughlin; one son, J.A. Laughlin, Altoona; three brothers, Earl S. Laughlin, Altoona; Thomas E. Laughlin, Pittsburgh; and Ernest Laughlin, Wilkinsburg. Friends will be received at the Laughlin funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening. John Miller Laughlin passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry B. Hawn, of McConnellstown Road, on Friday, Nov. 23, 1945, at 8:20 p.m. He was born at Huntingdon, March 15, 1875, a son of Samuel and Anna (Hamer) Laughlin, both deceased and at the time of death was aged 70 years, 8 months and 8 days. He is survived by his wife, Alice (Donnell) Laughlin, and four daughters: Pearl Evelyn Rinker, of McConnellstown; Mabel Grace Hohne, in France; Hazel Frances Grubb and Maude Lillian Hawn, both of McConnellstown. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Ella Schucker, Mrs. Howard Malone, Mrs. Edward Neugebauer, William Laughlin, all of Altoona; Mrs. Ralph Confer, of Duncansville; and Harry Laughlin, of Youngwood, Pa. Funeral services will be held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry B. Hawn, McConnellstown Road on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 1945, at 2:30 o'clock. Interment will be made in McConnellstown Cemetery. Lincoln, formerly of McConnellstown, died at 12:20 p.m., January 31, 1945, at the home of his niece, Mrs. Walter H. Grove, of 559 Fifty-sixth Street, Altoona, death being attributed to a paralytic stroke. He was a son of John George and Loretta (Yocum) Lincoln, and was born at McConnellstown, November 30, 1883. Surviving are the following nieces and nephews: Mrs. Walter H. Grove and Mrs. Francis T. Smith, Altoona; Dr. Harry J. Peightal, Pittsburgh; W. Edgar Peightal, Mrs. Bruce Foster, Mrs. Robert McQwen, Mrs. Lois Miller, Gail, John and Doyle Smith, all of Huntingdon. Mr. Lincoln was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church, McConnellstown. Friends will be received at the Brown funeral home, Huntingdon, after 6 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 1945. Funeral services will be held at the Brown funeral home on Saturday, February 3, 1945 at 2 p.m., Rev. Hobart McKeehan officiating. Interment will be made in the McConnellstown cemetery. Mrs. Jennie Lynn, a highly respected resident of Entriken, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Samuel K. Hummell of Entriken, yesterday afternoon, Monday, August 12, 1946, at one o'clock. She had been ill for quite some time. Born in Huntingdon County on April 22, 1860, she was a daughter of Jonathan Brindle and Rose Ann (Baker) Brindle. Her husband Samuel Lynn, preceded her in death on December 24, 1926. She is survived by two children, Mrs. Samuel Hummell of Entriken and Mrs. Ernest E. Dorman of Hummel. The deceased was a lifelong member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church at Entriken. As long as her health permitted, she was faithful to her religious responsibilities. The funeral service will be held at two-thirty o'clock on Thursday afternoon in the Entriken Evangelical and Reformed Church. The Rev. C.A. Huyette will officiate and burial will be made in the Reformed Cemetery at Hummel. Friends may call at the Robert E. Huff funeral chapel until 10:30 o'clock on Wednesday morning. After that time the body may be viewed at the home of Mrs. Samuel Hummell in Entriken. Funeral services for Reuben C. Lynn, 82, respected Lincoln Township resident, were held this Monday afternoon in the Entriken Evangelical and Reformed Church. The Rev. Charles Huyette assisted by the Rev. Marion Smith officiated. Interment was made in Entriken Cemetery by Huff funeral service. Mr. Lynn passed away Friday, June 25, 1948, at 6:30 p.m. in the J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Mr. Lynn was employed by the Huntingdon and Broad Top Railroad until his retirement in 1934. He was active in community and church work. For several years he served as a Lincoln Township school director and a judge of elections. A member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church for more than 50 years, he was a past superintendent of the Sunday school and had held office of deacon and elder. He was treasurer of the Sunday school for over 10 years. Four children are surviving: E. Ivin Lynn, Springfield, O.; Charles E. Lynn, Chicago, Ill.; F. Arthur Lynn, with the Army at Okinawa; and Hower Lynn, McConnellstown. Born in Lincoln Township April 3, 1866, he was the son of Samuel Nicholas Lynn and Elizabeth (Stouffer) Lynn. He was twice married. His first wife, Alfraetta Baker, died in December, 1900. He was later married to Mary Grove, who died June 16, 1937. Blanchard C. Lytle of Pittsburgh died at the home of his son, Frederick S. Lytle, October 23, 1945. He was born in Broad Top, Huntingdon County, on September 1, 1869, the son of John W. Lytle and Annie A. Lytle, both of whom preceded him in death. On June 10, 1887, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Crouse, who also preceded him in death. Surviving are a daughter and two sons: Mrs. Frank Lee, Pittsburgh; Earl D. Lytle, Pittsburgh; and Frederick S. Lytle of Entriken R.D. Mr. Lytle was a member of the Knights of Malta and of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics. He was a member of the Methodist Church. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 on Saturday in the Entriken Methodist Church, the Rev. Kenneth B. Gombert officiating. Lytle of Pittsburgh, formerly of Lincoln Township, Huntingdon County, died at her home in Pittsburgh Wednesday, May 12, 1943. She was born in Huntingdon County on February 1, 1867, the daughter of Frederick Crouse and Mary Crouse. At time of death she was aged 76 years, 3 months, and 11 days. She is survived by her husband Blanchard C. Lytle, and by four children: Frederick S. Lytle of Entriken; Mrs. Ethel J. Crouse, Mrs. Frank Lee, and Earl D. Lytle, all of Pittsburgh. Two sisters also survive: Mrs. Margaret Conlon and Mrs. Emma Hummel, both of Huntingdon. Funeral services will be held at the Robert E. Huff funeral Chapel at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Rev. Mrs. Blanche Cunningham McCartney, a native of Entriken and a former resident of Huntingdon, died at the home of her son, C. Donald McCartney, in Aliquippa, Pa., last night, Thursday, September 18, 1947. She had been a resident of the Beaver County City for the past 10 years. She was born on January 31, 1887 at Entriken. She is survived by her husband, William T. McCartney of Huntingdon and the following children: C.Donald McCartney, Mrs. Gladys Hockenberry and Mrs. Gail Emfield, all of Aliquippa and Mrs. Janet Otrhalik of Ambridge. One brother and two sisters also survive: James Cunningham, Mrs. S.H. Foust and Mrs. Marty Fisher, all of Entriken. There are also four grandchildren surviving. Mrs. McCartney was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huntingdon. Funeral services will be held at Brown's funeral home in Huntingdon on Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock. The Rev. J. In loving memory of Daniel Lester McElwain, who passed away on March 9, 1945. Mrs. Lacy Anne McElwain, widow of the late A.P. McElwain of Huntingdon, died in the J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital at three o'clock yesterday afternoon, November 26, 1945, after a lingering illness. She was the daughter of William and Mary Jane (Grady) Kelly. Her early life was spent in the vicinity of Union Church. When quite young she joined the church there and when possible returned to annual homecomings and reunions. After her marriage she established her home in Huntingdon and became a member of St. James Lutheran Church. Until her illness prevented she took an active part in all the activities of the church. Since the death of her husband in 1925 Mrs. McElwain had spent part of her time with her daughter, Mrs. Charles E. Skean, Huntingdon, and part of the time with her three other daughters in California. She was the mother of six children, two of whom preceded her in death: Maude, who passed away in 1913, and Cloyd, who died in 1927. Surviving are four daughters: Besse (Mrs. Charles Skean), Huntingdon; Grace McElwain, Laura (Mrs. Roderick Overman), and Martha (Mrs. Jack Day), all of Los Angeles, Calif. Two granddaughters also live in Los Angeles, Martha Elaine Day and Dorothy Anne Day. One grandson, Philip Skean of Huntingdon, also survives as do a number of nieces and nephews. Miles, 715 Washington Street, Huntingdon, died in the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital at 5:10 Thursday morning, April 5, 1945, after an illness if several weeks. He suffered a stroke on Easter Sunday. He was born in Petersburg on April 27, 1858, the son of the late William and Susan Miles. Surviving are four sons and five daughters: Paul R. Miles, now serving overseas, with the U.S. Navy; Mrs. J. S. Nale and Mrs. Tony Lalli both of Petersburg; W.C. Miles of Bellwood; Mrs. J. W. Isenberg and J. P. Miles of Huntingdon; W.N. Miles of Alexandria; Mrs. Virginia Foster and Mrs. Ella Foster both of Huntingdon and with whom he made his home. Also surviving are 55 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He is the last member of his immediate family. Mr.Miles was a member of the Lutheran church of Petersburg. He was a retired railroad employee. His wife preceded him in death on September 1, 1939. Janice Grace Morningstar died at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Morningstar, of Huntingdon, R.D. 4, last evening, January 29, 1941, at 4 o'clock, following a two weeks' illness of a heart ailment. The child was born on March 7, 1937, a daughter of Bertha Adeline Morningstar. At the time of death she was aged 3 years, 10 months and twenty-two days. She is survived by her mother and her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Morningstar. Funeral services will be held at Brown's funeral home on Friday afternoon at 1:45 o'clock, with the Rev. Dr. E. L. Manges officiating. Interment will be made in the Mill Creek Cemetery. Mrs. Ida May Moyer of Entriken died at her home at 4 o'clock this Friday morning, May 5, 1944. She was born in Ohio on March 12, 1869, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Uriah Shaffer. On December 10, 1888, she was united in marriage to Daniel Moyer who preceded her in death about twenty-one years ago. Surviving are three daughter and two sons: Mrs. R. S. Tweedy, Turtle Creek; Mrs. Oran H. Hall, Glassport; Mrs. Pearl Fisher, Entriken; Roy Moyer, South Fork; and Paul Moyer, Turtle Creek. She had been a member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Entriken, all her life. The funeral service will be held at the Evangelical and Reformed church in Entriken at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, the Rev. Charles Huyette officiating. Milton Myers of Marklesburg died at 6:20 Thursday morning, June 10, 1943, at his home, death being caused by a paralyticstroke. He was born on November 4, 1859, in Huntingdon County, the son of Abram and Kathryn (Garner) Myers. At time of death he was aged 83 years, 6 months and 26 days. On March 9, 1906, he was united in marriage to Florence Summers, at Philadelphia, by the Rev. Matthew Boyer. Mrs. Myers survives to mourn his passing as do three daughters: Miss May Myers, at home; Mrs. Clarence Garner, Huntingdon; Mrs. Blanche Moyer, Altoona. Three sisters and two brothers also survive: Mrs. Sarah Grove, Hesston; Miss Margaret Myers, Marklesburg; Mrs. Alice Peightal, Huntingdon; Frank Myers, McConnellstown; Benjamin Myers, Marklesburg. There are also three grandchildren. Mr. Myers was educated in the public schools of Huntingdon County. He attended the Marklesburg Evangelical and Reformed Church from early childhood and was very regular in attendance until his health failed. Mr. Myers had also served as a member of the consistory. Lester Poser, prominent Huntingdon businessman, passed away at his home, 522 Washington Street, this Monday morning, March 22, 1948, at 12:45 o'clock. He had been in poor health for the past nine months. At the time of death he was aged 52 years, 9 months and 8 days. Associated with his father in conducting Poser's Department Store at Sixth and Washington Streets, he was widely known and highly respected. He manifested a keen interest in the religious and civic life of Huntingdon. After attending, Huntingdon High School, Mr. Poser joined his father in business in 1925. He was born June 14, 1895, and was a son of Jonas Poser of Huntingdon and Anna (Shapiro) Poser, deceased. He was an active member of the Agudath Achim Synagogue of Huntingdon; the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Huntingdon and the Huntingdon Chamber of Commerce. He was united in marriage with Tybie Rush. Surviving besides his wife and father are three children: Leonard and Jay, at home, and Raisa, wife of Ellis Robinson of Plainfield, N. J. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Dave Saxe of Mount Union, Mrs. S. Schutzman of Clearfield, Mrs. L. H. Smith of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Bernard Goldstein of Lewistown and Mrs. Hyman Halpern of Huntingdon. Replogle, of Aitch, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 1944. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Lutheran Church, Marklesburg. The Rev. Jerome Guss will officiate. Interment will be made in the Stone Church Cemetery at Marklesburg. Huntingdon Borough's first Marine casualty was reported today when it was learned that Cpl. William J. Resley, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Resley, 529 Moore Street, has been killed in action while serving with the Pacific Marine Air force. The sad news was received by his parents, Friday afternoon in a telegram from the War Department which read as follows: "Deeply regret to inform you that your son Cpl. Willaim J. Resley, USMC, was killed in action in the performance of his duty and service in his country. No information is available at present regarding the disposition of remains. Temporary burial in locality where death occurred probably. You will be promptly furnished any additional information received. ...........Please accept my heartfelt sympathy. Letter follows." A. A. Vandegrift, Lieut.. General USMC, Commandant, U. S. Marine Corps. It is presumed Cpl. Resley was in the Solomons area at the time of his death. The last letter received by his parents was written March 12. At that time it was known he was in the Solomons. Strict military rules of the USMC prohibit publication of the date of death and the exact battle station. Cpl. Resley passed his 19th birthday on February 7. He was born February 7, 1925 and he graduated from Huntingdon High School with the class of 1942. He enlisted in the Marines on May 27, 1942 and exactly one year after that date he sailed for the South Pacific on May 27, 1943. "Bill" received his basic training at Parris Island, S. Car., and then was sent to Quantico, Virginia where he graduated from the Ordnance School. He was then sent to El Toro, California where he was instructed in aerial gunnery. At Huntingdon High, he took part in football and basketball. In the last letter received from their son, the parents were informed that "there is not a thing I can tell you about." A younger brother, Robert, and an older sister, Betty, both at home, also survive besides the parents. Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Rightnour, wife of Joseph Rightnour of 318 Thirteenth Street, Huntingdon, died at 12:40 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, 1945, in the J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness. She was born in Huntingdon on August 7, 1911. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Rightnour and one son, Jack, at home. Also surviving are her mother, Loretta Brenneman, Huntingdon, and the following uncles and aunts: Mrs. Mary Culp, Mrs. Sarah Harvey, Ralph William, Percy, Earl and George Brenneman. Mrs. Rightnour was a member of the Abbey Evangelical and Reformed Church, Huntingdon. The funeral service will be held at the Abbey Church at four o'clock on Tuesday, the Rev. Edmund L. Robb of McConnellstown, wife of Charles Robb, died at 1:20 p.m. yesterday, June 24, 1948, at the J.C. Blair Hospital. She had been a patient in the hospital 10 days. Born in McConnellstown Feb. 24, 1881, she was the daughter of Moses K. and Martha (Grove) Hamer. She was married to Charles Robb Nov. 28, 1918, in the old Reformed Church in Huntingdon. Surviving are: her husband; a son, Charles Robb of Glenolden; a brother and a sister, John G. Hamer of Altoona and Mrs. Roy Robb of McConnellstown. Two brothers and five sisters preceded her in death. Mrs. Robb was an active member of the Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church at McConnellstown. She belonged to the Ladies Aid Society. The funeral service will be held in the Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church at McConnellstown Sunday at 2:30 p.m. DST. The Rev. Marion Smith will officiate. Brown funeral service. Mrs. Emma Keith Russell, wife of John Russell, died at her home at 1 o'clock this Wednesday morning, April 30, 1947. The former Emma Keith, she was born in Lincoln Township, Huntingdon County. The funeral cortege will leave Martinsburg at 2 p.m. Saturday for the funeral service which will be held in the Evangelical and Reformed Church at Russellville. Friends are being received at the funeral home in Martinsburg. In loving remembrance of Mrs. Rachel Russell, who passed away from this life on April 9, 1947. Mrs. Martha Ellen Smyers of McConnellstown died at her home at 8:30 o'clock Monday morning October 11, 1948. She had been ill for two years and was considered serious for the past two months. She was born on September 10, 1895, in Huntingdon, a daughter of John and Maggie (Coulter) Gray. Her husband, Carl Smyers, died in April, 1943. Two sons and a daughter are surviving, namely; Kenneth of McConnellstown; Charles, Altoona, and Helen (Mrs. Glen Runk) of McConnellstown. There are seven grandchildren and two sisters and a brother also surviving: Edna (Mrs. Oscar Talbert) and Elizabeth (Mrs. John Leabhart), both of Huntingdon, and John Gray of Three Springs R. D. Mrs. Smyers was a member of the McConnellstown Church at McConnellstown. From the time of her husband's death until her illness two years ago she was employed at the J. B. Kunz company in Huntingdon. The funeral service will be on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock in the McConnellstown Methodist Church. The Rev. W. V. burns will officiate and burial will be made in the McConnellstown cemetery. Harry Clayton Speck of Entriken died in the J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, at 3 a. m., Saturday, January 22, 1944, death being caused by pneumonia. He was born in Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County, on October 3, 1882, the son of Felix Speck and Anna Marie (Huff) Speck, and at time of death was aged 61 years, 3 months and 19 days. On May 1, 1907, he was united in marriage to Nannie Beaver. Mrs. Speck survives to mourn his passing as do two daughters: Mrs. Samuel H. Boyer, Marklesburg; and Mrs. Richard D. Walt, Huntingdon. Also surviving are two brothers: Chalmers Speck and Wesley Speck both of Duquesne. Mr. Speck spent his early life in Saxton where he operated a barber shop. In 1908 he moved to Entriken and was employed by the Huntingdon and Broad Top Mountain Railroad on maintenance of way. He was highly respected in the community where his friendly and even-tempered disposition had won for him a large circle of friends. He was an earnest member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church. Mrs. Elizabeth Grubb Stewart, aged 56, widow of Charles Stewart, of Penn Township, died on Tuesday evening, October 22, 1940 in the J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital following an operation. She was born in Penn Township on November 7, 1883. She was a member of the Reformed Church. One son survives, Joseph C. Stewart; also two brothers and two sisters, Samuel Grubb and Joseph Grubb, both of Penn Township, Mrs. Jennie Miller and Mrs. Carl Parks, both of this place. Mrs. Martha R. Taylor, highly respected resident of Lincoln Township, died suddenly at her home Saturday night, February 10, 1945, at 10 o'clock. Martha R. Donelson was born September 29, 1884, in Lincoln Township, the daughter of Martin and Susan Shell Donelson. On January 31, 1906 she was married to Samuel I. Taylor at Entriken. She was a member of the Entriken Methodist Church for the greater part of her life, and was active in Church affairs, always giving of her time and talent to such activities. Her hospitality and neighborliness were among the many virtues which made her a highly respected member of the community, loved by all who knew her. She was a fine mother and devoted friend. She is survived by her husband and the following children: Sgt. Donnell A. Taylor, now stationed in Italy; Carl E. Taylor, Saxton; Joe A. Taylor, California; Mrs. James Frew, Harrisburg; TSgt. Dean D. Taylor, Mongomery, Alabama; Anna Foster, Spokane, Washington; Louise Taylor, at home. The following brothers and sisters also survive: Mrs. Joseph Martin, Broad Top R. D.; Mrs. Harvey Wright, Monte Vita, California; Mrs. Philip Hetrick, Huntingdon; Mrs. Melvin Morningstar, Entriken; Harrison J. Donelson, Altoona; George R. Donelson, Entriken. Treece, of Hummel, Hopewell Township, was found dead on Wednesday evening, February 7, 1945, at 6:30 o'clock, by her husband, William O. Treece. Mr. Treece returned home from his work at 6 o'clock, and when he could not find Mrs. Treece about the house he followed tracks in the snow which led to a small reservoir near the home. He found her lifeless body, with her head hanging over the wall of the reservoir. She had been submerged in the water and was apparently trying to get out when she became exhausted and death resulted from exposure. Mrs. Treece had been in failing health for several months and was highly nervous and melancholy at times, it was learned by Coroner E. Blair Shore in his investigation of the death. Mrs. Treece was born in Lincoln Township, Huntingdon County, on November 17, 1893. She was the daughter of Benjamin F. Baker and Catherine Clapper Baker. She and Mr. Treece were married in Cumberland, Md., on August 22, 1912. Her husband survives. Also surviving are two sons and two daughters: Carl F. Treece, Philadelphia; Mrs. Fred R. Searer of Lewistown; Miss Miriam L. Treece, Lewistown; and W. Elton Treece, at home. Two sisters also survive: Mrs. Frank Swanger, Lewistown; and Mrs. Harold Beck, Altoona. Mrs. Treece was a member of the Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife and mother and well-thought of in her community. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 on Saturday in the Hummel Methodist Church, the Rev. Dean Krepps of Marklesburg, and the Rev. Edward Z. Utts of Altoona, officiating. Barry Raymond Varner infant son of Raymond G. and Esther Grace Grove Varner of Saxton, died in the J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 1945, at the age of two months. The child was born on May 4, in Huntingdon. The funeral service was held at the home of the parents at 2:30 this afternoon, the Rev. Charles Link officiating. Interment was made in the Grove Cemetery, Saxton by Huff funeral directors. Robert Perrence Ward, infant son of Robert G. and Eunice (Speck) Ward of Echo Glen, Huntingdon, died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 1946, at home. He was born on January 16, 1946. His parents and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn K. Ward and Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Speck are surviving. The Rev. Edmund L. Manges will conduct the funeral service in the Brown funeral home at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. George Eldridge Wallace of Huntingdon R. D. 1 passed away at the J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital on Tuesday evening, August 10, 1948 at 6:27 o'clock. He had been in ill health for several years. A son of George Thomas and Lucinda Boyer (Summers) Wallace, he was born on September 25, 1877 in Penn Township, Huntingdon County. On August 23, 1899 he was united in marriage with Margaret Adeline Garner at Marklesburg. Mrs. Wallace and one son, Chester Wallace, Aitch, survive. There are also three grandchildren. Mr. Wallace was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Marklesburg. The deceased was a farmer all his life but because of ill health he was forced to discontinue the work about three years ago. Funeral services will be held in the Evangelical and Reformed church at Marklesburg at 2:30 on Saturday afternoon. The Rev. Mrs. Carrie Whittaker, wife of John C. Whittaker, died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 1947, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shaffer. She had been suffering from a heart condition. In failing health for the past two years, she had been bedfast for the past two weeks. Born in Walker Township on August 15, 1876, she was the daughter of Howard and Eliza Jane (Campbell) Robb. She was united in marriage with John C. Whittaker on Dec. 1, 1889. Mr. Wittaker died on Dec. 7, 1932. Surviving are five children: Helen (Mrs. Charles Shaffer) of Huntingdon, Dorothy (Mrs. Harry Shaffer) of McConnellstown, Byrde (Mrs. Ralph Grove) of Hesston, Pauline (Mrs. Chester Wakefield of Tyrone R. D. 4 and Ella (Mrs. James Hall) of Huntingdon R. D. 1; four brothers, Will C. Robb of Altoona and Charles, Ray and Lawrence Robb, all of McConnellstown; and 14 grandchildren, one of whom is John Shaffer who is expected home momentarily after two and a half years of service in Japan. Mrs. Whittaker was educated in the Walker Township public schools. She spent her entire life in Walker Township and McConnellstown. She was a faithful and devout member of the McConnellstown Methodist Church for 57 years. Her record of membership was the longest at the present time in the church. She had served in the capacities of Sunday school treasurer and church steward. She also belonged to the Woman's Society of Christian Service. The funeral service will be held in the McConnellstown Methodist Church on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. DST. The Rev. W. C. Fields will officiate assisted by the Rev. Mr. Reed. Mrs. Hulda Wilkins, a highly esteemed resident of Saxton R. D., passed away at the Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia on Wednesday, September 22, 1948. She was born in Hopewell Township, Bedford County, on October 7, 1891, a daughter of Thomas and Lillie Mae (Entrekin) Worthing. On February 28, 1920, she was united in marriage with Harrison Wilkins. He died on February 1, 1946. Mrs. Wilkins is survived by her mother who lives at Saxton R. D. and these brothers and sisters: Clyde, Glenn, Ray and Ireta Worthing, all of Saxton; Merle, Entriken; James Collegeville; Paul and Clay, both of Blairsville; Mrs. J. G. Coles, Shanksville; Mrs. Mae Howells of Altoona. The deceased was a member of the Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church of Saxton. She was president of the Womens Guild of that church and was active in the Mite Society. She was always faithful to her religious responsibilities. She belonged to the Auxiliaries of the Saxton VFW and American Legion. The VFW Auxiliary will hold a service at her home on Friday at 7 p.m. the funeral services will be at three o'clock on Saturday afternoon at the Wilkins home, Saxton R. D. The Rev. A. C. Thompson, D. D., died at his home early this morning, December 27, 1945. He was born in Broad Top Township, Bedford County on March 14, 1867, the son of Thomas Worthing and Mary Hanley Worthing. On October 27, 1885, he was united in marriage to Lily May Entriken at Six Mile Run. She survives as do the following sons and daughters: Clyde A. Worthing, Saxton; Mrs. Hulda Wilkins, Saxton; Mrs. J. G. Coles, Swanksville; Retta Worthing, Saxton; Clyde W. Worthing, Latrobe; Paul Worthing of Blairsville; James T. There are three brothers: David Worthing, Hopewell; Evan Worthing, Hopewell; Samuel Worthing, Saxton, and Mrs. Elizabeth Hoover, Chicago, Ill. Mr. Worthing was engaged in farming during his entire life. He was a member of the Saxton Methodist church and enjoyed a large circle of friends. He played a big part in the civic affairs of the community and will be sadly missed by his fellow townsmen. The funeral service will be held at the late residence at 2:30 on Sunday, the Rev. Norman Greenawalt officiating. Interment will be made in the Fockler Cemetery. Friends may call at the late residence. Mrs. Kathryn Christine Yorgey, wife of J. L. Yorgey, of 924 Mifflin Street, Huntingdon, died in the J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital Saturday morning, October 19, 1946, at 8:55 o'clock. She had been an invalid for twelve years. Daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Haller) Brindle, she was born in Mifflin on September 4, 1858. She was married to J. L. Yorgey on December 11, 1884, at a ceremony performed by the Rev. E. E. Berry of Mifflintown. Her husband and four children survive: Joseph W. Yorgey, Milroy; Mrs. W. E. Boyer and H. E. Yorgey, both of Altoona; and Mrs. Nell B. Anstine, Mifflin. There is also a brother, John E. Brindle of Mifflin, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Yorgey was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church. She belonged to the church in Mifflin until 1907 when she moved to Huntingdon. After this time she was a faithful member if the St. James Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be held in the Bechtal funeral home on Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. Interment will be made in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Mifflintown. Friends may call at the funeral home.
