Thursday, May 4, 1933; p2. Miss Martha Jane Hutchison passed away at her late home, 311 Washington street, on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 o’clock. She had been in failing health over a period of two years, the last three weeks of which she was confined to her bed. Death resulted from complications. She was a daughter of Redmond Hutchison and Barbara (Rudy) Hutchison. Both deceased, and was born in West township, Huntingdon county. She moved with her family to Porter township, near Alexandria in 1876, and in 1903 became a resident of Huntingdon where she has since resided for twenty-five years. She conducted the ladies’ furnishings store at 427 Washington street, until two years ago when she was compelled to retire on account of poor health. She was very successful in business, due to her courteous manner and fair business methods, and she was widely known. Her friends are saddened at the news of her death. She was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church of Alexandria, and of the Rebekah lodge of Huntingdon. Surviving are four brothers and three sisters, namely, William Newell Hutchison of New York City, George R. Hutchison and David B. Hutchison, both of Alexandria, T. J. Hutchison, of Huntingdon; Miss Mary E. Hutchison, Miss Elsie M. Hutchison and Mrs. Sarah Work at home at 311 Washington street. Miss Hutchison’s death marks the second in a family of nine children, a brother John H. Hutchison having preceded her in death about ten years ago. Funeral services will be held from the late home, 311 Washington street, on Saturday afternoon, at 2:30, conducted by Rev. W. E. Stewart, of Huntingdon. Interment will be made at Alexandria.
