Thursday, October 23, 1947; p3. William Newell Hutchison, a native of Barree township, Huntingdon county, died at his home, 467 W. 140th street, New York City, on Wednesday morning, October 22, 1947. Mr. Hutchison had been in failing health for some time and death was due to the infirmities of advanced age. Born March 31, 1852, in Barree township Huntingdon county, he was a son of Redmond and Barbara (Rudy) Hutchison. At the time of death he was aged 89 years, six months and twenty-one days. On April 3, 1879, he was united in marriage with Mary Alice Morrison, of Manor Hill, who preceded him in death on December 6, 1937. He is survived by one daughter, Susan Hutchison of New York City, and three grandchildren, Charles, George, and Edith Hutchison; also two brothers, T. J. Hutchison, of Huntingdon, Gorge R. Hutchison of Alexandria, and two sisters, Mary E. and Elsie Ann Hutchison, of Huntingdon. There are a number of nephews and nieces. Mr. Hutchison was educated in the public schools of West township and had received higher education in seminaries located in Pine Grove Mills, Bellwood, and Port Royal. For several years he taught school in West and Logan townships. Following his marriage he and his wife moved to Nebraska, where he was engaged in farming for about fifteen years. He then returned to the East and took up residence in Harrisburg, where he was in the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad company. He was appointed to the United States Customs service as an assistant weigher, which position he held for forty years, having retired about twelve years ago. During the time of his service with the government he resided in New York City. The body will arrive in Huntingdon at 7:04 tomorrow evening and will be taken to the home of his sisters, 311 Washington street, where funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. The Rev. Franklin Miller, pastor of the Alexandria Methodist church will officiate. Interment will be made in the Alexandria cemetery, directed by Dick’s funeral service.
