Those Who Have Crossed to the Other Shore. A. A. JACOBS. After an illness extending over a period of six years our friend, Mr. A. A. Jacobs, died at his residence, in Altoona, Saturday afternoon, 2nd inst., in the 67th year of his age. Mr. Jacobs was a native of this county, and for a number of years conducted a boat-yard in this city, on the site now occupied by Henry & Co.'s coal and lumber wharf, doing a lucrative business until the main line was sold and passed out of the control of the State, but soon afterward he closed his yard and engaged in the hotel business, which he successfully conducted for a few years. Seven years ago he removed with his family to Altoona and secured employment in the P.R.R. shops as a car builder, which he followed until the 1st of October, 1881, when he was stricken with paralysis, from which he never recovered sufficiently to enable him to resume work. On the 29th ult. he was again stricken, the disease so affecting his throat that he was unable to take nourishment from that time until death relieved him of his suffering. Mr. Jacobs was married in 1847 to Miss Anna C. Port, of this city, who survives him. Three daughters and three sons are also living, viz: Mr. Howard L. Carmon, and Mrs. J. L. Smith, of Gainesville, Texas; Mrs. Anna C. Richter, of Altoona; Mrs. Harry L. Jacobs, of Huntingdon, and Edw. S. and Jas. P. Jacobs, of Altoona, Pa. He was a kind and indulgent husband and father, highly esteemed and respected by all who knew him. His remains were brought to this city on the morning of the 5th and laid to rest in the cemetery here. Peace to his ashes.
