Jamison passed away at her home in Saltillo on Saturday morning, October 20, 1945, after a prolonged illness. She had been confined to her bed since July. Death was due to a severe heart attack. In her passing Saltillo loses one of its revered citizens and one of its foremost business women. For well over fifty years she has been proprietress of the Iron Springs Hotel where she served the public well and became known to those from near and far as 'Aunt Elida'. It was no uncommon thing for her to receive during her illness mail from Texas or California, addressed merely to 'Aunt Elida, Saltillo, PA'. During the period in which she operated the hotel she saw many changes with the progress of the times. During the earlier days the hotel stables provided the horse and buggy for travel. These were replaced with garages for cars. The old-fashioned spring house was replaced with modern refrigeration. Kerosene, gas. and electric lighting followed in close succession. The wood stoves which had been in each room were replaced by steam radiators. 'Aunt Elida' quickly adjusted herself to these new situations. She loved children and befriended many, being a real philanthropist at heart. She was keenly interested in the civic life of her community and the world at large. Several years ago she built herself a new home adjacent to the hotel, hoping to retire, but the public found the way to her door and her failing strength was often taxed to meet the demands of the public -- especially during the rationing of foods. Elida M. Jamison was born in Center County, Pennsylvania, on January 5, 1871. She was the daughter of John and Catherine Jamison. She is survived by two brothers, H. Newton Jamison of Pitcairn, and Isaac M. Jamison of Bellwood and a large number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters: Lillia May (Mrs. O. W. Stevens); Bertha (Mrs. Paul Rupert); Maggie (Mrs. E. D. Sowers); Viola (Mrs. Scott Greenland) and one brother, G. Arthur Jamison. The following half-brothers and half-sisters are also deceased: William Jamison, Alfred Jamison, Mrs. Mary Park, Miss Sadie Jamison, Mrs. Carrie Whittaker, Mrs. Olive Walker, and Mrs. Mila Miller. She was a member of the Saltillo Baptist Church, having served there as organist and Sunday school teacher during her younger years. During her illness she was constantly visited by her pastor and many other ministers and received communion from the Rev. Richard Meyers just shortly before the fatal attack. The funeral service will be in the Baptist Church on Tuesday afternoon, October 23, at two o'clock, the Rev. Richard Meyers officiating. Internment will be made in the Saltillo Cemetery by McClain's funeral service. Friends will be received at the late home until twelve o'clock Tuesday at which time the body will be taken to the church where it may be viewed until the hour of the service.
