SHORE, 87, a resident of Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, since November 1999, formerly of Shirleysburg, RD. 1, died at 5:40 pm. Monday, July 2, 2001, at the retirement center. She had been in failing health. Born July 27, 1913, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Scott and Irma (Hendershot) Bard, She married Ivan F. "Toad" Shore Oct. 24, 1929, in Cumberland. Md. He preceded her in death July 15, 1975. Surviving are the following children: Blair C. Shore, Baltimore, Md.; Jesse S. Shore, Kistler, Mount Union: Denver L. Shore, Buena Vista, Va.; Raymond J. Shore, Glen Burnie, Md.; Glenn W. Shore, Shirleysburg, RD. 1; Mrs. Samuel (Patricia P.) Grove, Mount Union, RD. 2; Mrs. Roy N. (Josephine M.) Yoder, McVeytown, RD. 1; and Joseph H. Shore, Newton Hamilton. There are 33 grandchildren and a large number of great and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter; a brother, Joe Bard; and two sisters, Ruth Coons and Cora Arthur. Mrs. Shore was a member of the Otelia Mennonite Church, Mount Union. RD. 1. She was a homemaker for most of her life, but at one time had worked for L. Greif Brothers Manufacturing in Mount Union. She enjoyed sewing and flowers. Funeral services were held July 5, at the Otelia Mennonite Church. Mount Union, RD. 1, with the Rev. Christopher Heinlein officiating. Interment was made in the Otelia Mennonite Cemetery, adjacent to the church. Millicent J. JOHNSON, 79, a resident of Pleasant View Retirement Community. Manheim, formerly of Raystown Road, Saxton, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at 8:05 p.m., at the retirement community, following a brief illness. Born Nov. 13, 1921, at Raven Run Road, Saxton, she was the daughter of the late Irvin and Elizabeth (Weyandt) Weimert. She married Jacob H. Johnson June 22, 1940, in Saxton. He preceded her in death April 27, 1295. Surviving are two children: Mrs. Donald (Suzanne) Kegerise of Manheim and Larry Johnson of Middletown. There are five grandchildren amid five great-grandchildren. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters. Mrs. Johnson was a life member of the Raven Run Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed quilting and canning food. For a number of years she was employed by Quality Manufacturing of Saxton and Green Giant Cannery in Martinshurg. She was also a homemaker. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 8, at 2 p.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor Dan Hammel officiating. Interment will he made in the Bunker Hill Cemetery, Saxton. RD. Fred R. NEARY, 80, a resident of The Oaks at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon, formerly of 1135 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, for the past 20 years, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at 11:20a.m., at The Oaks, following a brief illness. Born July 6, 1920, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Sheldon and Minnie Mae (Johnson) Neary. He married Esther G. Mondo June 2,1943, in Tennessee, with the Rev. Sullivan officiating. Mrs. Neary survives at home, along with a son and five daughters: Steven J. Neary, Albon, Ind.; Judith Ann Knode, Huntingdon, RD. 4; Mary Czmor, Cassville; Dorothy Semple, Cassville; Margaret Mock, Ivan, Utah: and Patricia Galloway, Huntingdon. There are 17 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Two grandchildren are deceased. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister: Roy Neary, Martin Neary, who died in infancy, and Dorothy Dell. Mr. Neary was of the Baptist faith He was a former member of Standing Stone Post 1754, VFW; Frank P. Hommon Post 24, American Legion; and Loyal Order of the Moose 223, all of Huntingdon. Mr. Neary attended the public schools in Huntingdon and graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1939. He retired in 1984 from Owens Corning Fiberglas as a yardage checker, after 37 years of service. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant with a medical unit. He enjoyed music and watching television. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. David Arseneault officiating. Interment will be private in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Huntingdon. George B. WHITE, 73, of RD. 1, Box 290, Mapleton, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at 4:40 p.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Dec. 14, 1927, in Smith Valley, he was the son of the late Melvin M. and Edith K. (Miller) White. He married Marion L. Flasher Oct. 20, 1950, in Huntingdon County. She preceded him in death March 2, 1988. Surviving are two daughters and a son: Mrs. Thomas (Christine) Yarnell Jr., Huntingdon, Phyllis D. White, and Frank D. White of Philadelphia. There are two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers and a sister: Monroe White, Mill Creek: Ellis White, Hampton. Va.; Emma (White) Beecher, Fayetteville; Eugene White, Mount Union; and Robert White. Huntingdon. Two sisters, Gladys Kuhkuman and Gertrude Gibson, preceded him in death. Educated in the public schools of Smith Valley, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad. He also worked in the plumbing and heating business and retired from US Silica, formerly Pennsylvania Glass and Sand, after 33 years of service, from 1957 until 1990. At US Silica, he worked as a truck driver and head of the maintenance department. >From 1946 until 1947, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He had been a resident of Mapleton his entire life. Mr. White enjoyed household projects, drawing and watching educational television. He also enjoyed socializing at Tops Diner. A funeral service will he held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. James A. Stork officiating. Interment will he made in the IOOF Cemetery, Mapleton. Lola P. WEYANT, 97, formerly of 65 Jefferson St., Mount Union and a resident of Westminster Woods, Huntingdon since 1997, died at 10:25 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2001. She had been in failing health. Born Jan, 30, 1904, in Cassville, she was the daughter of the late Harper and Anna M. (Richardson) Pheasant. She married Thomas B. Weyant Aug. 18, 1929, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Mount Union. He preceded her in death in April 1961, Surviving are a son, Terry P. Weyant of Fairfield, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, J. Thomas Weyant. Mrs. Weyant was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Mount Union, where she was active in the choir, church council and held various offices on the council. A 1923 graduate of Mount Union High School, she graduated from Shippensburg University in 1926 and did graduate work at Penn State University. She was employed by the Mount Union Area School District at the high school and Kistler Elementary School and taught at a private school in Lititz She was primarily a special education teacher hut had also taught social studies and physical education She retired in 1972, after 30 years in education. Mrs. Weyant was a member of the American Legion Post No. 107 Ladies Auxiliary; the Mount Union chapter of the American Red Cross: J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital Auxiliary: Mount Union Shakespeare Club: the 20th Century Womens Club; and was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mount Union chapter. She also belonged to the PSEA, where she had served on many committees and the NEA. Funeral services will he held at 11 am. Thursday, July 12, at the St. Luke Lutheran Church. Mount Union, with the Rev. Peter Naschke officiating. Interment will he made in the Mount Union Cemetery. Harold A. Davidson, 81, of Orbisonia, died at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2001, at the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia. Born Feb. 8, 1920, at Glen Campbell, he was a son of the late Alexander S. and Esther (Hawk) Davidson. He married Ruth E. Houck Aug. 12, 1950. Mrs. Davidson preceded him in death Dec. 26, 1993. One sister, Margaret Painter of the Woodland Retirement Center, survives. Five brothers are deceased. Mr. Davidson was a 1940 graduate of Saltillo High School and graduated from Williamsport Technical Institute. He retired from Rog Garner Chevrolet in Huntingdon, after 25 years of service as a salesman. Prior to that he was employed by Owens Corning Fiberglas, Huntingdon. He had attended the Orhisonia Presbyvterian Church and the Orbisonia Senior Citizens Center. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from January 1941 until July 1945. Funeral services will he held at 11 am. Monday, July 9, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia. Interment will be made in the Orhisonia Cemetery. Nathaniel BARTLETT, 28, of Guilford, Conn., formerly of Greenfield, Mass., died Monday evening, July 2, 2001. in Whatley. Mass., as a result of an automobile accident on I-91. Born April 13, 1973, in New Haven, Conn., he was the son of Harvey arid Dianne (Suller) Bartlett. His father and stepmother, Judith Bartlett, survive in Bradford, Vt., and his mother. Dianne Suller, survives in Colrain, Mass. He is survived by three sisters and three brothers: Kymberleigh Rhayne and Anna May Tillery, both of Ashfield, Mass.; Sarah Bartlett of Bradford, Vt.; Noah Tilley, Ashfield, Mass.; and Daniel and Joshua Bartlett, both of Bradford, Vt. Also surviving are his maternal grandmother, Muriel Clave of Ft. Myers. Fla.; his paternal grandmother, Constance Bartlett of Branford, Conn. and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Nathaniel was educated in the Guilford, Conn.. schools, attended the Academy at Charlemont and graduated from Huntingdon Area High School in 1992. He attended the University of Indiana. He worked as a fisherman in Alaska for some time and later for Cersosimo Lumber in Brattleboro, Vermont, and as a waiter in a Connecticut restaurant. A memorial service was held July 8 in the North Guilford. Conn. Congregational Church. Helen I. WAGNER, 86, of HCR 61, Box 510-C, Mill Creek, died at 6:10 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001, at the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. following a brief illness. Born Dec. 7, 1914, in Newton Hamilton, she was the daughter of the late William and Viola (Moist) Kauffman. She married Raymond C. Wagner Aug. 23, 1943. He preceded her in death Dec. 15, 1981. Surviving are the following children: Donald S. Kauffman, Pine Glen. McVeytown; Pat Gladfelter and Richard L. Wagner, both of HCR 61, Mill Creek; Connie Weaver, Shirleysburg. RD. 1; Charles N. Wagner, Palmyra; and Linda Fortney, Mount Union. RD. Three nephews were reared in the home: Edward Woods of Huntingdon: Dean Woods of HCR 61, Mill Creek; and Pete Woods of Huntingdon. There are 20 grandchildren. 28 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Three grandchildren are deceased. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister: Ross Kauffman, Joseph Kauffman and Margaret Woods, Mrs. Wagner was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mill Creek. She was a member and past matron of Mount Union Chapter No. 280, Order of the Eastern Star: member and past royal matron of Juniata Valley Court No. 121, Order of the Amaranth: and had served in various state appointments in both of these organizations. She was also hoard member and past recorder of Oneida Assembly No. 172, International Order of Rainbow for Girls, where she received the Grand Cross of Color. She was a member of the Mill Creek Fire Company Auxiliary. A graduate of Huntingdon High School, she retired in 1980 from Owens Corning Fiberglas in Huntingdon. Prior to that, she had worked at the Viscose Plant in Lewistown. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 11, at 11 am., at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Faust Hissong officiating. Interment will be made in the Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg, R.D. 1. John M. DRAKE, 74, of Box 25 Drake Road, Curryville, died Friday morning, July 6, 2001, at Altoona Hospital Center or Nursing Care after a lengthy illness. Born June 19, 1927, in Huston Township. Martinsburg, R.R. 2, he was the son of the late Fred B, and Ruth (Duvall) Drake. He was first married to Jean M. Quarry of Henrietta, Martinsburg. R.R, 1. Nov. 2, 1945, in Cumberland, Md. She died May 8, 1997. He then married Doris (Kelly) Faloon April 3, 2000, in Winchester, Va. Surviving, along with his wife are two daughters and three sons; Connie L. Lane. Altoona: Mrs Preston (Janet M) Kephart, Sinking Valley, Tyrone R.R. I: Gerald L. Drake, Fairfield: William B. Drake, West Brownsville, and David N. Drake, Thurmont. Md. One stepdaughter, Mrs. Eugene (Tracy) Finan of Naples, Fla., survives. There are 26 grandchildren 14 great-grandchildren and a step grandson. The following were also reared in the home: Barbara Ann Peach and Donald Drake. both of Marshall, Texas: Susan Drake of Tucson, Ariz.: and two sisters, Isabel Dixon of Martinsburg and Jean Kleder of Euclid, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a son. John Milton Drake, April 2, 2000; a granddaughter, Kathy Lynn Drake Dec. 18. 1999; four brothers and five sisters: Gideon, Donald Wayne. Malcolm, Grace Price, Mary Hall, Emma Thompson, Sarah Long and infant Elizabeth. Mix Drake was a member of the Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church and attended the Leamersville Grace Brethren Church, Duncansville, R.R. 1. He was owner and operator oI the Cove Knoll Farms, Curryville for 46 years. The farm was sold April 26, 1994, to Paul and Mary Fox at a public auction. Mr. Drake enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He was a member of the following organizations: Martinsburg Sportsmen’s Association: Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Company; Eastern Milk Cooperative, where he fomerlv served as treasurer for the Blair/Bedford Local; Martinsburg Booster Association, where he was a former president and secretary; North Woodbury Grange, where he was former master and served other offices: Pomona Grange, where he was rnaster, overseer and steward; Pennsylvania State Grange, where he formerly served as state grange secretary for two years: National Grange; Blair County Farm Bureau, where he was a former vice chairman of the local bureau. He presently served as the coordinator for the Farm Bureau and as a representative between the farmers and the Department of Environmental Protection. Mr. Drake was a member of the Morrisons Cove Republican Club, where he served as a Republican committeeman of North Woodbury Township for 16 years, and was a former chairman of the National Legislative Committee for Congressman Bud Shuster. He was a North Woodbury Township supervisor for 30 years. where he served as chairman of the board and also as secretary for 16 years. He was a member of the Blair County Township Elected Officials, serving as secretary/treasurer for two years, second vice president for two years, first vice president for two years and president for two years. He served on the nominating committee for the State Association of Township Supervisors and was a member of State Township Supervisors Association, where he served as second vice president, vice president and president, all for two years. He was appointed regional agriculture director by the state secretary of agriculture under the Dick Thornburgh administration of Region Five for eight years: consisting of ten counties: Blair, Bedford, Centre, Fulton. Huntingdon, Mifflin, Juniata. Somerset, Cambria and Clearfield. Mr. Drake was also a member of Woodbury Lodge No. 539, F&AM, Roaring Spring; Altoona Consistory and Altoona Jaffa Shrine, where he was a member of the Square and Compass Club and Jaffa Motor Coups, where he served as vice president. president and chaplain and enjoyed riding his little red car in the parades. He was a member of the Altoona Shrine Club and the Cove Area Shrine Club, where he was past president and secretary and was currently chaplain and treasurer. Mr. Drake was past member of the Martinshurg Rotary Club and the Interstate Milk Producers Cooperative, where he was past president of District 20 and was influential in the change from using milk cans to bulk tanks used by farmers today. He had served on the Good Roads Committee for Martinsburg Borough and North Woodbury. Taylor and Huston townships. Funeral services will he held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Leamersville Grace Brethren Church, with Pastor Mark E. Lingenfelter officiating. Interment will be made at Diehl’s Crossroads Cemetery. Martinsburg, R.R. 1. Charlotte (Sheeder) CHANEY, 98, of Defiance, died Sat., July 11, 2001, at 7:30 p.m., at the Morrison’s Cove Home, Martinsburg, following an extended illness. She was born April 11, 1903, the daughter of the late Walter and Clara (Weaverling) Sheeder. She married Dewey Chaney Dec. 24, 1920. He preceded her in death March 3, 1986. She is survived by one son, Harold Chaney of Saxton; by three brothers: Bill Barton of Hopewell, Merle Barton of Six Mile Run and Ernest Barton of Waterfall and by two sisters: Mabel Figard of Finleyville and Grace Spencer of Florida. She is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by on son, Raleigh Chaney; three brothers: Roy Sheeder, Sam Barton and Ralph Barton and a sister, Ethel Kennedy. Mrs. Chaney was a member of the Kearney Union Church. She was employed by Lyon Manufacturing. Everett. and retired from Scampers Sewing Factory in Saxton. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and sewing. Funeral services will be held Wed., July 11 at 1 p.m. at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel in Saxton, with Pastor Jerry Wright officiating. Interment will be made at the Hopewell Cemetery, Hopewell. Richard Vaughn CHUBB, 44, of Duluth, Ga.. died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at his home. Born and reared in Lansdale, he was the son of Robert S. Chubb of Chalfont and Mary Louise (Vaughn) Chubb of Perkasie. He is survived by his parents; a brother, Robert, of Peach Tree City, Ga.: and his grandmother. Zelda W. Vaughn of Huntingdon. A nephew and two aunts also survive, including an aunt, Nancy Kyper, in Huntingdon. Mr. Chubb owned Chubb Construction and Remodeling, Inc., in Duluth. He enjoyed bow and gun hunting, salt and fresh water fishing and scuba and deep sea diving. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 12. in Duluth. Mary Jacque HALL, 65, of McAllen, Texas, died May 15, 2001, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital. Born in Brownsville, Texas, she had lived there all of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Hall, April 5, 2001. Mr. Hall was formerly of Huntingdon. She is survived by three sisters: Anna Fisher, Huntingdon; Alice Dauheiser, New Jersey; and Carrie Hall, Shirleysburg. Also surviving are several cousins; a god-daughter and god-son; and a sister-in-law in Huntingdon, Pauline Hall. Mrs. Hall was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Pharr, Texas. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the McAllen Genealogical Society. Memorial services were held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Pharr. Mabel B FRANCIS, 88, who resided with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James R. Myers at 121 E. Market St., Mount Union, died at 7:30 a.m., Monday, July 9, 2001, at her home. She had been in failing health. Born Sept. 5, 1912, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of the late James Albert and Nora (O’Donnell) Myers. She married Samuel Francis July 25, 1945. He preceded her in death Feb. 19, 1961. Along with her son, she is survived by two stepchildren, Robert Francis of Farmington, Maine, and Omagene Rapolti of Pittsburgh. Nora (Gill) Moore of Mount Union was also reared in the home. There are two grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Mrs. Francis was a member of the St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Mount Union. She had worked for 50 years, first at L. Greif Brothers Manufacturing in Mount Union and then at Genesco Corp., also in Mount Union. She retired in 1973. A funeral Mass will beheld at 10 am. Friday, July 13, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Mount Union, with the Rev. Elwood Figurelle officiating. Interment will be made in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Shirleysburg, R.D. 1. The Rev. Robert H. MEFFERD Jr., 54, of 1484 SW 47th Terrace, Ft. Lauderdale. Fla.. formerly of Shade Valley, died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at noon. at his home in Ft. Lauderdale. Born Dec. 24, 1946, in Mifflin County, he was the son of the lateR. Harold and Eleanor (Suloff) Mefferd. He married Rita Simone, who survives in Ft. Lauderdale. Also surviving are a daughter and two sons: Tracy Cassara, Bound Brook, N.J.; Timothy Hoosier of Delaware; and Joshua Mefferd, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. One step-daughter and a step-son also survive: Kimbra Boozel, Port Royal; and Denny Powley Jr. Mifflintown. There is one grandson. Two sisters survive: Mrs. Joe (Connie) Berrier of East Waterford and Mrs. Patrick (Martha Ann) Snyder of Shade Gap. The Rev. Mefferd attended Kutztown State College and was former owner of Mountain Boys Construction Co. in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He had attended the Good News Church in Plantation, Fla., and was a licensed Baptist minister He was active in the Christian Motorcycle Association and Prison Ministry in Ft. Lauderdale. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 14, at 1 p.m., at the John L. Agett Funeral Home, Dry Run, with the Rev. Virginia Eminhizer officiating. Interment will be made in the Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Waterloo. Herbert E. STRAYER, 66, of Stafford County, Va., died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Mary Washington Hospital. Born in Blair County, he was the son of the late Lee and Jenny Strayer. He first married Shirley Brumbaugh, who preceded him in death. Survivors include his second wife, Retha Strayer of Stafford County, Va., and the following children to his first marriage: H. Lee Strayer, Herbert F. Strayer, Scott B. Strayer and Sabrina Roberts, all of Virginia. Also surviving are five siblings: Donald "Rock" Strayer Ronald Strayer Janie Strayer, Richard Strayer and Toni Vallencount of Huntingdon One brother, Leroy, preceded him in death. Mr. Strayer had lived in Huntingdon County in the 1960s and had operated the drive-in theater. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1973, and became a pastor at the Church of God in Culpepper, Va. He served as chaplain of the Quantico Rod and Gun Club, the Rappahannock Regional Jail and Potomac Point Nursing Home. Funeral services were held July 3, with full military honors at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Paul R. "Clyde" CLAYCOMB, 58, of 263 State St., Woodbury, died Monday morning. July 9, 2001, at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, following an extended illness. Born April 25, 1943, in New Enterprise, RD., he was the son of the late Thomas Claycomb and Virginia (Amick) Claycomb, who survives in Martinsburg, RD. He married Donna J. States July 11, 1986, in Winchester, Va. Surviving, along with his wife and mother, are a sister. Jacqueline Helsel of Claysburg, and a brother. Harry L. Claycomh of Roaring Spring. Several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a niece, who was his namesake, Paula Helsel. Mr. Claycomb attended the United Church of Christ in Hesston. He was employed by CLI Transport in Altoona, and transported gasoline to local Sheetz stores in the area. He was a member of the first graduating Class of 1961 at Central High School, Martinsburg. Mr. Claycomb enjoyed boating, water skiing, teaching many local youth how to water ski and he especially enjoyed collecting miniature trucks with his brother, Harry. He was a member of the Martinsburg VFW and the Williamsburg American Legion. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 12, at the First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring, with he Rev. Lloy Blattenberger and the Rev. Sharon Erb officiating. Interment will be made in Dry Hill Cemetery, Woodbury. James Barton LOWE, 79, of Valley View Home, Altoona, formerly of 1316 E. Cypher Rd., Hopewell, died Monday, July 9, 2001, at 10:44 am., at the Altoona Hospital, following an extended illness. Born Oct. 17, 1921, in Cypher Beach, he was the son of the late Isaac William and Liddie Pearl (Foor) Lowe. He married Odessa E. Hicklin Nov. 27, 1941. in Winchester. Va. She preceded him in death Aug. 18, 1981. Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Barry (Betty Louise) Lipschutz of Dover and Mrs. William G. (Eleanor) Ross, Hopewell. RD. 2. Mrs. Ross served as his caregiver. There are three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One sister, Bessie Irene Foster of Cypher Beach, survives. A sister, Alice Risbon. preceded him in death. Mr. Lowe was of the Protestant faith. He was employed as a lumberjack for 20 years and worked various construction jobs. He was a member of the Local 419 Laborers Union in Somerset. He enjoyed bingo and was an avid hunter. Walter Henry KELLER, 90, formerly of RD. 1, Box 999, West Township, Petersburg, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at 12:50 am., at Valley View Haven, Belleville, where he had resided since March 14, 2001. Born Aug. 16, 1910, at the family home in Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Jesse W. and Pearl J. (Dixon) Keller He married K. Elizabeth Ramsey Jan. 2, 1943, in Altoona. She preceded him in death Dec. 22, 1998. Surviving are two daughters: Anna J. Dunn of Duncansville and Mrs. A. Frank (Dorothy J.) Leister, McClure. There is one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a sister Alma J. Rudy Oct. 6, 1993. Mr. Keller had been a farmer since the age of 16. He had owned and operated the family dairy farm in Barree Township for over 60 years. He retired from full time farming in 1973, but continued to farm through the early 1980s. He was a member of the Mooresville United Methodist Church. Mr. Keller served as Barree Township supervisor for over 50 years and was a former school board director of the Juniata Valley School District. "Bill" BARD, 72, of 154 Silverford Heights, Mount Union. died at 9:05 am. Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Nov. 17, 1928, in Orbisonia, he was the son of the late Cloyd and Mae (Brown) Bard. He was united in marriage to Cornelia Popa Bard Aug. 16, 1952. She preceded him in death July 10, 1998. Surviving are two daughters, Carole Bard of Huntingdon and Ramona Southwell of Altoona, and a grandson. Mr. Bard was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a technical sergeant in 1968. He was employed by the Huntingdon Area School District, retiring with over 20 years of service. He was a member of the Merkel Masonic Lodge in Texas. TREGO, 71, of Three Springs, died at 5:18 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Jan. 20, 1930, in Lack Township Juniata County, he was a son of the late John W. and Grace (Burdge) Trego. He was united in marriage to the former Joyce B. Everhart Dec. 22, 1951, in Winchester, Va. Mrs.. Trego survives at home, along with two children: Donald L. Trego of HCR 60, Orbisonia, and R. Dean Trego, Three Springs. There are two grandchildren and one great-grandson. He is also survived by four siblings: Mrs. Paul (Phyllis) Shaw, Perulack; Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Miller, New Bloomfield; Donn Trego, Newark, Del.; and Ronald Trego, Frederica, Del. One sister, Mary Jane Peterson, and two brothers, John Trego Jr. and James Trego, are deceased. Interment will be made in the Three Springs Cemetery. William "Bill" Elwood HALL, 73, of 214 Shelton Ave., Alexandria, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at 5:10 p.m., at his Alexandria home. Born Sept. 17, 1927, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late William Ernest and Ella Moriah (Musser) Hall. He was reared by his grandmother, Sarah Musser. He married Marian Jane Light March 16, 1947, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Tyrone. Mrs. Hall survives at their Alexandria residence, along with the following children: Margie E. Patterson, Mrs. Timothy (Bethany K.) Yocum, William E. Hall Jr., Mrs. Michael (Bobbi S.) DeVore, Mrs. Kim (Lovey M.) Stromberg, Paul J. Hall, Sean W. Hall and Sandy McNeal, all of Alexandria. There are 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One sister, Mildred Stewart of Alexandria, survives. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Isabelle Parks and Louise Allison. Mr. Hall was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Alexandria. He attended the Huntingdon area public school and retired from Union Furnace Casting Company. He had also worked for a number of years for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a member of the William P. Spyker American Legion Post No. 520, Alexandria. Mr. Hall was an avid stock car enthusiast and especially enjoyed racing at Hesston Speedway. He also collected coins. Mr. Hall was well-known as a benefactor of the Juniata Valley Ambulance Service. During Hartslog Days, he held games for children and all the money raised was donated to the ambulance service. He and his wife had been foster parents to a number of children throughout the years. During World War II, he served in the US Army from December 1945 until December 1946, as a private first class with the 720th Rehabilitation Co., in the military police in Pearl Harbor. He received the World War II Victory Medal. A lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, he had lived at his Alexandria home for the past 12 years. Funeral services will be held at 11 am. Born Nov. 7, 1921, in Belleville, he was the son of the late Christ and Frona R. (Yoder) Smoker. His wife, the former Dorothy F. Wilson, died Feb. 15, 1997. A 1955 graduate of the Mount Airy High School for the Deaf, he was employed as a dishwasher for 31 years at the Towne House Restaurant in Media. "Eddie" HOLESA, 71, of Saxton, died at 1:07 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2001, at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring. Born Feb. 19, 1930, in Mount Union, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Petrock) Holesa. He married Mae Diggins-Reed Nov. 23, 1955, in Cumberland. Md. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Garry T. Black of Everett, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one step-granddaughter and two step-great-granddaughters. One brother, Paul Holesa of McConnellstown, and a sister, Clara Cholewinski of Mount Union, survive. He was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers: Anna Puchalla, Agnes Youngman, Mary Sevick, Verna Puchalla, John Holesa, Joseph Holesa, Mike Holesa and Steve Holesa. Two infant siblings, Andy Holesa and Elizabeth Holesa, also preceded him in death. Mr. Holesa was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Mount Union. Allen HOOVER, 87, of P0. Box 3 Hesston, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at 2:55 p.m., at his Penn Township home. He had been in failing health for the past two years. Born Feb. 23, 1914, in Hesston, he was the son of the late George C. and Sarah Ruth (Crownover) Hoover. He married Mary L. Reed July 9, 1940. Mrs. Hoover survives at home, along with three sons: Allen M. Hoover, Hershey; Mark E. Hoover, Newmanstown; and Stephen 0. Hoover, Hesston. There are nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One brother, F Dale Hoover of Hesston, RD. 1, survives. He was preceded in death by a brother, Warren J. Hoover. Mr. Hoover was a member of Valley View Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Huntingdon, RD. 3. A 1933 graduate of Huntingdon High School, he received a degree in Latin and biology from Juniata College in 1937. He received his master’s degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked as a teacher in the high schools at Fort Littleton, McConnellsburg and Saxton-Liberty. He retired as an administrator in the Tussey Mountain School District. Born March 1, 1914, in Todd, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Amanda Pearl (Park) Shope. As an infant, her family moved from Todd to Saltillo, where she lived during her childhood and young adult years. She married G. Clair T. Stapleton Dec. 25, 1934, in Cassville. He preceded her in death July 31, 1979. Surviving are two daughters and a son: Dolores J. Campbell and Donna F. Focht, both of Pennsylvania Furnace, and C. Dean Stapleton of Stuart, Fla. There are five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Harold M. Shope and Kenneth R. Shope, preceded her in death. In 1956, Althea and Clair moved to Fairbrook, Pennsylvania Furnace, where she lived until her health required nursing care in 1992. She had spent her final years at Salem Hill Haven and Centre Crest Nursing Homes. Mrs. Stapleton was a Christian and had been a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, first in Saltillo and later in Pennsylvania Furnace. Her death was unexpected. She was horn March 3, 1937, in Brady Township. the daughter of the late Chester C. "Bub" and Christina Mae "Tink" (Parks) Finkle. She married William E. "Stoney" Frain Nov. 28, 1975. She is survived by her husband at home, and by a sister, Janet F. Reck of Mill Creek, and a brother, Thomas James Finkle of Mill Creek. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael D., who died at birth and by two brothers, Richard L. Finkle and William C. Finkle. Mrs. Frain was a member of the Ardenheim Independent Brethren Church. where she was involved in bake sales and quilting. She was a 1951 graduate of Huntingdon High School and worked several years for Owens-Corning Fiberglass. In her early years, she worked at the Hershey Schools and Hershey Farms. Judith E. (Hooper) PITMAN, 52, of Port Matilda died Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Centre Community Hospital, following cancer-related complications. Born March 28, 1949, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of Paul L. and Joanne Pandolfino Hooper of Smithfield. On May 24, 1974, in State College, she married Dr. Glenn A. Pitman, who survives at home. She was a 1967 graduate of Huntingdon High School and attended the Grandview Hospital Nursing Program in Sellersville, where she graduated in 1976 as a registered nurse. She was employed as a pediatric private-duty nurse in the State College area. She was a member of Christ Community Church in State College. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Kiera Pitman Tracy of Philadelphia; two sons, Geoffrey A. and Gregory A., both of the State College area; and three brothers, David Hooper of Indianapolis, Robert Hooper of Saugerties, N.Y., and Richard Hooper of Boston. Born March 12, 1916, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late John and Lois (Craig) States. She is urvived by four children: Gerald Justice of Huntingdon; Thomas A. Justice and Lois S. Justice, both of North Tonawanda, N.Y.: and Alan Justice. Bellefonte. There are 12 grandchildren. 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Dr. Dan Wells MANSON, 68, died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in New Harbor, Maine, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a summer resident of New Harbor, Maine. and spent the rest of the year in Pittsboro, NC. Born Oct. 3, 1932, in Detroit. Mich.. he was the son of the late Stewart Horn and Dorothea Elizabeth (Wells) Manson. He grew up in Grosse Pointe, Mich. He is survived by his wife, a native of Huntingdon. Marci (Steel) Whittaker-Manson, of New Harbor, Maine. and Fearrington Village, Pittsboro, NC, and three daughters: Jean Manson Waite, Portland, Maine; Elizabeth A. Manson, Brunswick, Maine; and Katherine M. Webster, Oak Lawn, Ill.. There are three grandchildren. One sister, Helen M. Fisher of Glen Ellyn, Ill., survives. He was the great-great-great-great-grandson of Captain William Manson of Kittery, Maine, who served during the Revolutionary War, and he was also the great-great-grandson of Rufus Pinkham Manson, one of the founders of Wausua, Wis. Dr. Manson received his doctoral degree in paper chemistry in 1957, from the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, Wis. He held a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Vermont, where he was the captain of the track team, running the middle distances, and was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. Upon completing his doctorate, he worked for a year at Billaurdus Paper Company in Sweden. In August 1959, he moved his family to Bethel, Maine, and began working for the Oxford Paper Company in Rumford, Maine, and later as the director of process engineering at the Brown Company. In 1973, he began a 15-year career with the S.D. Warren Company in Westbrook. Maine, where he was director of process research. Following his retirement from the Warren Company, he was a senior consultant for the James River Corporation for several years. In 1991, he and his wife, Marci, formed The Manson Group, a paper industry consultancy, which led to a broad array of consulting assignments in both the U.S. and abroad. including Brazil, Argentina, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Scandinavia, Indonesia and Tasmania. His career in the paper industry spanned more than 40 years. Dr. Matson was very active in the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI), and held many volunteer positions and offices, including: Association director, chairman of the Paper and Board Division, chairman and principal instructor of the highly regarded Wei End Operations Short Course, and Paper and Board Industry editor for the TAPPI Journal. He also received the TAPPI fellow award and the Paper and Board Division Technical Award. His professional passion was research and development, process design and learning programs. He shared those interests as a guest lecturer at the Pulp and Paper School at the University of Maine. and as a contributing author to the TAPPI/CPPA joint textbook program. He published more than 20 articles in various professional journals. Most recently, he lectured at North Carolina State University. Dr. Manson was a great lover of outdoors and spent many years mountain climbing, camping, boating and enjoying the Maine coast While living in Maine, he developed a passion for hiking. He and his family climbed extensively in the White Mountains and Maine. He climbed all the peaks in the Presidential Range and all the major mountains in Maine. He enjoyed furniture building, in particular Shaker design. As a summer resident of Maine, he developed a love affair with the Maine coast and boat building. He become an unofficial apprentice at the Carpenter’s Boat Shop at Round Point, Maine. A celebration of his life will be held Aug. 7. at 1:30 p.m.. at the United Methodist Church of New Harbor, Maine. A reception will follow at the Colonial Pernaquid Inn, New Harbor. He had been in failing health for the past six months. Born Aug. 31, 1938, in Newton Hamilton, he was the son of the late William T. Varner and Mary F. (Pagenta) Varner, who survives in Mount Union. He married Amy Sipe May 10, 1970. She survives at 26 Valleyview Trailer Court, Mount Union. Along with his mother and wife, he is survived by two children: Jeana Foster of Mount Union and Jessica Stevens of Newton Hamilton There are five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Stewart Varner, Florida; John Varner, North Carolina; Robert Varner, Mill Creek; Rosie Parks, Lewistown; Shirley Varner, Rochester, N.Y.; and Jeanette Varner, Utah. Educated in the Mount Union schools, he had been employed by the former Littleton’s Esso in Mount Union for 20 years. Pennsylvania Ave., Mount Union, died at 9:35 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. He died following a prolonged illness. Born Nov. 12, 1925, in Rockhill Furnace, he was the son of the late Drue S. and Ella (Madden) Colyer. He married Mary R. Imperioli nearly 50 years ago, Oct. 18, 1951. Mrs. Colyer survives at home, along with two sons: Michael D. Colyer of Mount Union and Patrick D. Colyer of Shreveport, La. There are two granddaughters. Five siblings also survive: John D. "Jack" Colyer, Orbisonia; Frehl M. Colyer, Enola; Richard W. Colyer and Joyce Stetter, both of Port Richey, Fla.; and Joan Hill, Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Mr. Colyer graduated from Orbisonia High School with the Class of 1943. After graduation, he served for three years in the United States Merchant Marines before joining the U.S. Army. He served for 23 years. attaining the rank of sergeant major. He had served two tours in the Korean War and one in the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he took up residence in Mount Union with his family. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 18 years. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons in Virginia and Simpson-Hunt American Legion Post No. 107, Mount Union. Upon his retirement, he became an active member of Blue Juniata VFW Post 5754, Mount Union. He enjoyed professional baseball and was a lifetime fan of the Chicago Cubs. Born April 16, 1917, in Homestead, Allegheny County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ameilia (Kallen) Lowe. She married Clair F. Baker of Saxton May 19, 1934, in Cumberland, Md. He died May 9, 1966. Surviving are a son and two daughters: Robert F. Baker of Johnstown; Mrs. Harold (Sylvia) J. Reffner. Martinsburg. R.R. 1, and Mrs. Ronald (Peggy L.) Zamber, Pittsburgh. There are six grandchildren, six-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters: Tim Lowe, Margaret Hile, Virginia Anderson and Luella Crouse. Mrs. Baker was a member of Williamsburg Independent Bible Baptist Church, Williamsburg, R.R. 1. Mrs. Baker enjoyed flowers, bird watching, cooking and her church family. GROSS, 81, of 1824 Meadow Lane, Orrville, Ohio, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at his residence, following a five-week illness. Born April 7, 1920, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Ira C. and Kathryn (Figard) Gross. He marred Jane Warfel April 23, 1943, in Huntingdon. Surviving along with his wife are a son and a daughter: John Christian Gross of Ceres, Va., and Mrs. Matthew (Catharine) Musho, Granger, Ind. There are three grandchildren. Mr. Gross was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Orrville. He graduated from Penn State University in 1940, with a bachelor of science degree in food chemistry. He also attended Rutgers University, where he worked toward his master s degree in food chemistry. A former resident of Pennsylvania, he moved to Orrville in 1961, and had been employed by the J.M. Smucker Company as the research and development director from 1962 until 1986. Following his retirement in 1986, he served as a consultant with the company for five years. Mr. Gross held numerous patents related to volatile recovery of fruit flavors, whole fruit concentration. microwave application in drying fruits and numerous applications of fruit preserve uses in other food products. He was a member of the Institute of Food Technologists and the American Chemical Society. From 1943 until 1946, he served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant in France and Germany. Joan (Cornelius) SABRIC, 63, formerly of Shade Gap, died July 11, 2001, at Fairview Manor in Fairview, following an extended illness. Born July 17, 1937, in Pittsburgh, she was reared in Shade Gap, the daughter of the late Ned Q. and Mildred (Parker) Cornelius. She married John Sabric, who preceded her in death. Surviving are a daughter and two sons: Mrs. Herman (Sherry Kephart) Howland of Girard; Michael John and Randolph Sabric, both of Girard. There is one granddaughter. One brother, Larry N. July 19, 2001. at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Dec. 13, 1915, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of the late J. Taylor and Martha Ann (Carlin) McGee. She was first married to James Sponeybarger in 1933, in Bedford. He preceded her in death in 1958. Her second marriage was to John Lee Moyer April 5, 1961, at St. James Lutheran Church, Huntingdon. He preceded her in death Sept. 19, 1977. Surviving are three daughters: Mrs. Jack (Ann) Fagan, El Centro, Calif.; Mrs. Charles (Jean) Gates and Mrs. Harry (Kay) Houck, both of Orbisonia. There are five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One grandson and one granddaughter are deceased. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and John McGee. Mrs. Moyer was a 1933 graduate of Mount Union High School. She was employed by L. Greif Brothers Manufacturing in Mount Union for over 25 years. She later worked for the Mount Union Antenna Co. before retiring. She was a long-time, active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Mount Union. She was a member of the Order of the Eastem Star, Mount Union Chapter, and for many years she had been a member of the Tri-County Agency on Aging advisory board. She was instrumental is the formation of the Bricktown Seniors. where she was a charter member She also played a role in the acquisition of the Conrail freight station as the Bricktown Senior Center building. Born June 2, 1913, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Lucretzia (DeLco) Ziviello. She grew up in Italy. but returned to the United States as a teenager and lived in Philadelphia. After marrying her husband, Antonio N. Natale, she moved to Mount Union, where she lived most of her life. She had been a resident of Ashtabula since 1989. Her husband preceded her in death in 1981. Surviving are a daughter, Phyllis DeCato of Ashtabula, Ohio, seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A son, Anthony J. Natale, died in 1975. Two sisters, Delphine Daluiso of Torrance, Calif., and Elena Natale of Paternapoli. Italy, survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Archie and Mario Ziviello, and three sisters, Lena Ziviello, who died at infancy; Evelina Troisi and Florence Ziviello. Mrs. Natale was skilled at knitting, crocheting and needlework, arts she learned from the nuns while living in Italy. STUBY, 85, of 613 Church St., Saxton, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at approximately 3:30 pm., at his home, following a brief illness. Born Aug. 24, 1915, in Saxton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ann (Cogan) Stuby. He married Mildred Luetta Hinkle in 1944, in Cumberland, Md. She preceded him in death May 10, 1984. Surviving is a son, Samuel E. Stuby of Saxton. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters: Palmer Stuby, Joe Stuby, Chester Stuby, Paul Stuby. Division St., Mount Union, died at 6:40 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. She had been in failing health. Born April 5, 1914, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of the late William G. and Elizabeth (McConaughey) Smith. She is survived by a sister, Pauline F. Gerholt of Mount Union and a nephew. John R. Gerholt of Hill Valley, Mount Union, RD. 1, who was reared in the home. One sister, Kathryn M. Smith. preceded her in death. Miss Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mount Union. A 1932 graduate of Mount Union High School, she completed Lewistown School of Nursing in 1944. After working for two years at the Lewistown Hospital, she attended and graduated from the Harrisburg School of Anesthesiology in 1948. She began her work at Highland General Hospital in Pampa, Texas, in 1955. retiring in 1978, after 23 years of service. Miss Smith returned to Mount Union in 1993. She was a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and a member of the Lewistown Hospital Alumni Association. Interment will be made in the Mount Union Cemetery. Foster A. SNYDER, 35, of Bedford, formerly of Six Mile Run, died at 1:48 am. Sunday, July 22, 2001, as the result of a motor vehicle accident. Born Dec. 24, 1965, in Bedford, he was the son of Foster A. and Christine (Swope) Snyder of Six Mile Run. He is survived by his parents; grandmother, Helen Swope and three sisters: Crystal Ann Snyder, Mrs. James (Julie Ann) Davis and Mrs. Kevin (Theresa) Shomo, all of Bedford. He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Robert Swope, who had resided in Six Mile Run. Mr. Snyder attended the Finleyville Union Church as a child. He enjoyed his involvement in the Special Olympics and listening to music. A graveside service will be held at 10 am. Newton Chester WATKINS, 69, Three Springs, died at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001 at the UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. Born May 10, 1932 in Three Springs, he was the son of the late Newton Roger and Laura Mary (Briggs) Watkins. Surviving are two daughters: Kelly Jo Patrick and Jody Ott, both of Patton, PA; three grandchildren; four sisters: June Fields, Helena Witters, Lucy Nearhood and Jean Hampson, all of Three Springs. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha Hess and an infant brother, Bruce Watkins. He was of the Methodist faith and a 1952 graduate of Saltillo High School and a 1960 graduate of Shippensburg State College with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. He worked for thirty years as a Pennsylvania State Auditor from 1962 until 1991. He was the former owner of the Three Springs Cable TV Company which was sold in 1982. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. He was a life member of the Three Springs Fire Company, an active member of the Three Springs Ambulance service as a driver and chief engineer. He was also a member of the Madden-Wennick Post 518, American Legion in Orbisonia; a member of Standing Stone VFW Post 1754, Huntingdon, and the BPOE Lodge, Huntingdon. CHAUVENNE, 96, of 110 Fredonia Rd., Greenville, formerly of Saxton, died at 4:44 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2001, at White Cliff Nursing Home, Greenville. Born Oct. 4, 1904. in Warsaw, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Marion and Victoria (Levitisk) Gutowski. She married Sylvain Chauvenne May 1, 1930. He preceded her in death May 10, 1991. Surviving are a daughter and three sons: Mrs. Robert (Mary Ellen) Reed, Greenville; Marion John Chauvenne, Florida; Robert M. Chauvenne, Georgetown; and Larry D. Chauvenne, Jamestown. There are seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. One daughter, Vivian Burke, and a grandson, Robert L. Reed, preceded her in death. Two brothers survive: Frank Gutowski of Hollywood and Joseph Gutowski of Kersey. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters: John, Bernard, Leo, Anthony. Shirley St., Mount Union, died at 9:25 am. Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Messiah Village in Mechanicsburg. She had been in failing health. Born March 13, 1910, in Orbisonia, she was the daughter of the late Dr. John Arthur and Florence (Ripple) Puckey. She married J. Bland Clark Feb. 28, 1933. He preceded her in death March 8, 1970. Surviving are three children: Dr. John R. Clark, Camp Hill; Patricia V. Barna, Houston, Texas; and Janet D. Watts, Millville. There are eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother: Marion E. Shingler and Richard T. Puckey. Mrs. Clark was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mount Union. A graduate of Orbisonia High School, she attended the Irving School for Girls in Mechanicsburg. She also graduated from Susquehanna University in 1932, as a music major. JENKINS, 89, of 907 Sixth St., Saxton, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at 9:40 am., at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring. She had been in failing health for the past several years. Born Oct. 3, 1911, in Defiance, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Lilly (Detwiler) Whitney. She married Thomas J. Jenkins Sept. 26, 1930, in Cumberland, Md. He preceded her in death Dec. 29, 1968. Surviving are the following children: Loretta Manley, Greensburg; Rebecca Whisel, Everett; Peggy Rouser, Wells Tannery; Tom Jenkins, North Huntingdon; Robert Jenkins and Donna Jenkins, both of Saxton; Walter Jenkins, Six Mile Run; and Jerry Jenkins, Defiance. There are 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, William. One sister, Loretta Foster of Bedford, survives. One brother and four sisters are deceased: Thompson Whitney, Amanda Arcq, Mary Whitney, Marsha Washburn and Cora Ritchey. Mrs. Jenkins was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Saxton, where she was active in the Mite Society. She was employed by the Cove Shoe Factory in Martinsburg, retiring in 1973, after 15 years of employment. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren, crocheting, baking and working in her flower garden. Melvin Thomas "Red" KEITH, 82, of North Hess Road, Hustontown, died at 10:10 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2001, at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg. Born July 13, 1919, in Woodvale, he was the son of the late Russell and Effie (Fix) Keith. He married Almeda Brown Oct. 21, 1939. Mrs. Keith survives at home, along with a son, Himmel Keith of Hustontown, two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters and a brother; Helen Sheeders, Orbisonia; Elynor Long, Baltimore, Md.; Madonna Smith, Fayetteville; and Lloyd Keith,. Saltillo. One sister, Pauline Hill, is deceased. Mr. Keith attended the Hustontown Church of God. North Clear Ridge Road, Hustontown. In his early years, he had worked as a coal miner in the Broad Top area. Later, he worked as a carpenter on heavy construction projects. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific aboard the USS Pasadena and the 1355 Benevolence from 1944-1946. Mr. Keith was a member of the Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Company; Carpenters Union Local 2274, Pittsburgh; and Madden-Wennick Post 518, American Legion. Orbisonia. Interment will be made in the Fairview Cemetery, Harrisonville. Joseph Allen DEVOR, 23, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away unexpectedly at 11:15 p.m., Monday July 23, 2001 at his residence. Born in Badhurst, Germany on Wednesday, June 21, 1978. he was the son of Donald Devor Jr. of Chambersburg and Lori (Swope) Devor of Harvey, La. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Donald Devor III, Warminster and his sister, Jessica Jakubic, Gunbarrel City, Texas. A neice and nephew also survive Mr. Devor was of the Baptist Faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing pool. He was also a long time volunteer member of the Pleasant Hall Fire Co. and served in the United States Navy. He was employed as a laborer in the construction field. Cemetery, Broad Top, PA. C. Edward TERRY, 67, of Huntingdon, died unexpectedly at 140 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2001, at his residence. Born Oct. 18, 1933, in Roanoke, Va., he was the son of the late Mahala Jane Terry. Wife Bonnie (Bair) Terry still survives at the residence. They were married in Lewistown on Nov. 23, 1990, by Pastor Jack Lancaster. He is also survived by three daughters: Melanie Ann Smith, Fla.; Letitia Hope Lecompte, Greenville, S.C.; Sheila Kay Lambert, Roanoke, Va.; and three step-sons: Travis J. Shope, Cookville, Tenn.; Troy D. Shope, Fairbanks; Tyson C.W. Shope, Tiffin, Ohio; and one step-daughter: Trista L. Shope, State College. Eight grandchildren also survive. Mr. Terry was proceded in death by his brother Robert Terry. He was a former member of F&AM Roanoke Lodge, Roanoke, Va. He also recievied an Associate Degree in Accounting at Virginia Tech. Most recently Mr. Terry was an oxygen technician with Dick’s Home Care. He retired in 1989 from General Electric after 35 years of service and received the "Salesman of the Year Award," a worldwide honor, in 1979. He was also the owner of POP’S Pizza in Huntingdon. Mr. Terry served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1954. His time was served during the Korean Conflict, where he attained the rank of Airman First Class in the Air Police and played baseball while stationed in Guam. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Terry enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed refinishing furniture. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 30, 2001 at the John B. Brown Funeral Home at 6 p.m. with the Pastor Jack Lancaster officiating. Betty M. CHRISTOFIC, 77, of 43 Springville Rd., Mount Joy, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Conestoga View, Lancaster. Born in Holsopple, Somerset County, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Carrie (Helsel) Hershberger. She married Andrew C. Christofic Jr., who preceded her in death in 1985. Surviving are the following children: Ronald L. Christofic, Elizabethtown; Mrs. Gary L. (Judy A.) Kepler, Huntingdon; Nancy L. Christofic, Mount Joy; James W. Christofic, Mathias, W.Va.: Terry W. Christofic, Lancaster; Mrs. Dennis L. (Deborah J.) Becker and Mrs. John F. (Candance C.) Aston, both of Elizabethtown. There are 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. One brother and three sisters are deceased. A homemaker, Mrs. Christofic enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting and collecting angel figurines. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Doyle Oscar CREE, 74, of Orlando, Fla., died July 27, 2001, in Orlando. Born Nov. 21, 1926. in Calvin, he was the son of Mary and Melvin Cree. He moved to Orlando, Fla., in 1960. He is survived by his wife, Pauline, and four sons: Daniel, Duane. Dale and David. all of Florida. There are five grandchildren. One son, Doyle, is deceased. He is survived by a brother, Melvin I. Cree of Nashville, Tenn., and three sisters: Elda Myers, Orbisonia; Virginia Cramer and Betty Houck, both of Huntingdon. Funeral services were held July 31, in Orlando. Mildred C. MOORE, 74, formerly of Rockhill Furnace, more recently of the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, died at 12:23 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Aug. 19, 1926, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Horne) Moore. She resided with her sister, Gladys, prior to her residency at Woodland. She is survived by one sister and two brothers: Dorothy McQuerry, Mount Union; Harry Moore, Blacksville, W.Va.; and Charles Moore, Downingtown. Two brothers and two sisters are deceased. Miss Moore attended the Rockhill Church of the Brethren. She was a member of the Orbisonia-Rockhill fire company auxiliary. She enjoyed church and playing bingo. Interment will be made in the IOOF Memorial Cemetery, Rockhill. Juanita FOOR, 61, of 124 River Bottom Lane, Saxton, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring. Her death was unexpected. Born Aug. 9, 1939, in Marion, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Daniel M. and Ruth (Ross) Brumbaugh. She married W. Eugene Foor Dec. 21, 1958, in the Stonerstown Church of the Brethren, Saxton. Surviving are two children: Wesley Eugene Foor, Tucson. Ariz., and Wynn Erica Custer, Saxton. There are two grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother and a sister: Daniel M. Brumbaugh Jr., Salem, Va., and Christina Ross, Taylorstown, Mrs. Foor was a member of the Stonerstown Church of the Brethren, where she was a Sunday School teacher and served as deaconess. A graduate of Shippensburg University, she taught in Chambersburg, Belchertown, Mass.; Kanner, La.; and Taylor, Mich. She was a member of the Audubon Society, American Association of University Women and Chapter 400 EAA. Mrs. Foor enjoyed gardening, fishing, hiking and family picnics. Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 3, at 10a.m., at the Stonerstown Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Dr. Sarah Q. Malone officiating. Interment will be made in the Brumbaugh Cemetery.
