DONAHEY, 75, of Mount Union, R.R. 2 died at 2:50 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2002, at her home. Born April 17, 1927, in Strodes Mills, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Nettie (Kline) Shirey. She married Harold E. Donahey June 11, 1948. Mr. Donahey survives at their home. She is survived by a son, Russell H. Donahey, McVeytown. Two brothers and a sister survive: Charles Shirey, McClure, Harry Shirey, Lewistown, and Betty Aikey, New Port Richey, Fla. She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Shirey, and four sisters, Mary Wagner, Mildred Hein, Dorothy Roe and Anna Peterson. Mrs. Donahey was a member of the Strodes Mills Baptist Church where she served as a children's Sunday school teacher for many years, was a member of the missionary Society and was church historian. During her lifetime, she worked at G.C. Murphy Co., Lewistown, and was later employed as a secretary at Union Auto Parts in Mount Union for 30 years. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at the Strodes Mills Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jonathan God officiating. Interment will be made in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Mary F. BRUBAKER, 98, a resident of Homewood at Martinsburg, 430 S. Market St., Martinsburg, formerly of Hollidaysburg, Clermont. Fla., and Hesston, died at 11:25 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2002, at Homewood at Martinsburg. Born Aug. 23, 1903, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Forshey and Jane (Stamm) Forshey. She married Jay I. Brubaker June 28, 1932, in Webster, N.Y. Mr. Brubaker preceded her in death in 1970. She is survived by two daughters; Ann (Brubaker) Kann, Raleigh. NC, and Sandra (Brubaker) Voigt, Cannel, Ind; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Forshey. Mrs. Brubaker was a member of the Abbey United Church of Christ, Huntingdon. She was a member of the National Story League, Altoona Chapter; the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees; and a former member of the Eastern Star, Martinsville, Ind. chapter A graduate of Altoona High School and Shippensburg University, she taught in the Altoona School District, Puerto Rico and in the Huntingdon Area School District. A memorial service, to be held at the Jacob’s Church, Hesston, will be announced at a later time. Interment will be made in the White Church Cemetery. Penn Township, Hesston. Helen Catherine (Russell) HUNTER, 96, of South Fork, Alexandria, died at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. A resident of Porter Twp. since October 1999, she had been in failing health for several months. Born July 19, 1905, in Braddock, she was the daughter of the late Anthony Howard and Mary Jane (Fouse) Russell. She was married to John R. Hunter Sr. at the home of their pastor, the Rev. Dr. VanOrmer, Nov. 14, 1921. Mr. Hunter preceded her in death Oct. 13, 1990. She is survived by a son and two daughters: John R. Hunter, Alexandria; and Mrs. Raymond (Mary Kay) Belin of New Freedom. Seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren survive. She was preceded in death by a son, Owen Hunter. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Hunter was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Huntingdon. She was a former member of the Republican Committee representing Smithfield Twp. for a number of years. Primarily a homemaker, she attended the Marklesburg/Lincoln Twp. schools in Huntingdon County. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. A private graveside service will be held at the Entriken Cemetery, Lincoln Twp, James Creek, with the Rev. Peter J. Naschke officiating. Daniel Dean WORTHING, 53, a resident of Barry's Personal Care Home, Mifflintown, died unexpectedly at 10:45 p.m. Thursday, July 4, 2002, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born Jan. 25, 1947, in Everett, he was the son of the late Cloyd L. and Mary Elda (Smith) Worthing. He is survived by two sisters and a brother: Marjorie Ketner of Allensville; Ralph Worthing of Martinsburg; and Doris Fittery of Huntingdon. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Grace Romaine Worthing. Mr. Worthing was a member of the Raven Run Church of the Brethren, Six Mile Run. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at Raven Run Church of the Brethren, with Pastor John Keffer officiating. Interment will be made in St. Luke's Cemetery, Saxton, R.R. Eleanor B. WOOD, 74, formerly of Alexandria, and resident of Hillview Chateau, Altoona, for the past three and one-half years, died at 5:20 a.m. Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Hillview. Born March 23, 1928, in Portland, Maine, she was the daughter of the late James R. and Bertha S. (Mitchell) Burns. She was married to Ralph A. Wood Sr. Jan. 27, 1952, in Farmington, Maine. Mr. Wood preceded her in death Jan. 25, 1985. She is survived by two sons and a daughter: Raymond A. Wood of Eatontown, N.J.; Cynthia M. Bouch of Alexandria; and Ralph A. Wood Jr. of Alexandria. Five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive. A brother, Herbert F. Burns of Tamarac, Fla., survives. Mrs. Wood attended the former Water Street Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Alexandria Fire Company Auxiliary and the Williamsburg American Legion Auxiliary. She retired in 1972 as an operator for Bell Telephone Co., Farmington, Maine, after 25 years of service. Mrs. Wood was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, gardening and was an avid reader. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., 1200 Lincoln Ave., Tyrone, with the Rev. John C. Dean of Alexandria officiating. Interment will be made in Shaffersville Cemetery. Alfredo RISPIGLIATI, 81, of Country Club Road, Mount Union, R.R. 1, died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at his home. His death was unexpected. Born Oct. 20, 1920, in Ancona, Italy, he was the son of the late Arnoldo and Belli (Augusta) Rispigliati. He was united in marriage to Lena A. Alesi Sept. 19, 1946. Mrs. Rispigliati preceded him in death Jan. 21, 1978. He is survived by a daughter, a son and three grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Rispigliati was a member of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union. He was a member of Boilermaker Local No. 154, Pittsburgh. He retired Jan. 1, 1984, with 28 years service as a boilermaker/blacksmith, working in Pittsburgh. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at the St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union, with the Rev. George Koharchik officiating. Interment will be made in St.Catherine's Catholic Cemetery, Shirleysburg. Lois Esther BRANTNER, 69, of Waterfall, died at 1:28 p.m. Thursday, July 4, 2002, at the Harrisburg Hospital. Born Sept. 7, 1932 in Taylor Twp., Fulton County, she was the daughter of the late David and Bessie (Black) Strait. She was married to Floyd C. Brantner who survives at their home. She is survived by three sons and three daughters: Richard K. Brantner of Bedford, Joyce A. Thomas of Everett, Randy C. Brantner of Hustontown, Susan R. Coughlin of Waterfall, Russell E. Brantner of Three Springs and Elizabeth M. Miller, also of Three Springs. Twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. She is survived by one sister, Betty Park of Mapleton. One sister, Mabel Black, and two brothers, Gene Black and Wilda Strait, preceded her in death. Mrs. Brantner attended Center United Methodist Church, Waterfall R.R., where she was a member of the WSCS group. She was a graduate of Hustontown High School. She retired from Family House Restaurant in Breezewood where she had worked as a waitress and gift shop attendant. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at the Center United Methodist Church, Waterfall R.R. with Pastor George Clippinger officiating. LeVerne H. ANDERSON, 85, of Mapleton, R.R. 1, died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at his residence. His death was unexpected. Born July 1, 1917, in Mapleton, he was the son of Robert and Viola (Buchanan) Anderson, both deceased. He was united in marriage to Larie C. Brodbeck June 15, 1936, in Cumberland, Md. Mrs. Anderson preceded him in death March 20, 1995. He is survived by one son, Barry L. Anderson of Audubon, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister, Donald G. Anderson, Geraldine Speck and Bobby L. Anderson, all of Mapleton, survive. He was preceded in death by one bother, Marcus Anderson. Mr. Anderson was a member of the Bowman's Chapel United Methodist Church, Mapleton, R.R.1, where he was chairman of the Trustees and served as Sunday School superintendent and teacher. He was also active on the pastor-parish relations committee and was involved in all church activities. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, American Association of Retired Persons, the Raystown Stripers Club and the Bassmasters Association. He retired in 1978, from the Pennsylvania Glass Sand Works in Mapleton, now U.S. Silica. He was employed at the sand works for over 40 years and, at the time of his retirement, was a crane operator. He enjoyed participating in many sports and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoying hunting turkey. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 8, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Ed Seeley officiating. Interment will be made in the IOOF Cemetery, Mapleton. Zelda Jane ABBOTT, 91, formerly of 1006 Mifflin St., Saxton, died at 9:07 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2002, at the Marklesburg home of her daughter, Alda Hetrick, following an extended illness. Born April 21, 1911, in Lincoln Twp., Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of Harry and Nancy (Gregory ) Brindle, both deceased. She was united in marriage to John M. Enyeart in 1928. Mr. Enyeart preceded her in death in 1967. In 1969, she married Luther J. Abbott, who preceded her in death in 1973. Mrs. Abbott is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Alda) Hetrick of Marklesburg, with whom she resided for two years, and Mrs. Robert (Audrey) Oaks Jr. of James Creek. She is also survived by six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one step-great-granddaughter, one great-great-grandson and one step-great-great- granddaughter. She was preceded in death by one son, Milton John Enyeart; one granddaughter, Trudy Hetrick Baker; one stepson, Donald Abbott, and one stepdaughter, Anita Abbott. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by four sisters: Mary Parks, Martha Treece, Minnie Fisher and Margaret Hammon, and six brothers, Herman, Jesse, Albert, George, Harry and Charles Brindle. Mrs. Abbott was a member of the Saxton United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Marklesburg Volunteer Fire Company. She and her husband, John Enyeart, worked in dairy farming in Aitch for over 35 years. She enjoyed crocheting and visiting with neighbors. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor Todd Templeton officiating. Interment will be made in Entriken Cemetery. Harold "Jack" GREENE, 76, of 415 Parkview Lane, Altoona, died Friday afternoon, July 5, 2002, at the Valley View Home, Altoona, following an extended illness. He was born Dec. 22, 1925, in Claysburg, the son of the late Floyd L. and Ella (Huyette) Greene. On July 28, 1946, in Alexandria, he was united in marriage to Anna "Marge" Harshbarger, who survives. Two daughters survive: Amy Crinnin of Clay, N.Y., and Katie Schaff of Menahga, Minn. Three grandchildren also survive. Mr. Greene was preceded in death by a sister, Anna, and three brothers, Herbert, Richard and Robert. He graduated summa cum lude from Mercersburg Academy and earned his bachelor of arts and master's degrees at The Pennsylvania State University. He was a member of the U.S. Navy ROTC during World War II. Mr. Greene retired as vice president and general manager of Ohio Line Co. of Woodsville, Ohio, a subsidiary of General Refractories. He was a member of Trout Unlimited and Sylvan Hills Golf Club in Hollidaysburg. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and flying. A funeral service was held this morning at Good Funeral Home, Inc., and interment was made at Alto-Roste Park Cemetery, Altoona. The Rev. Barbara Woodrig officiated. Elizabeth M. (Putrament) RUCH, 87, of Three Springs, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at her home. Born April 10, 1915, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sue (Weiler) McDonough. She was married to Anthony Putrament. Mr. Putrament preceded her in death Feb. 16, 1988. She was then married to Edward Ruch Jan. 18, 1992, at Shade gap. Mr. Puch preceded her in death Dec. 4, 1997. She is survived by a step-daughter, Mary Anne Ruch of Allentown; a niece, and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. George (Karen) Moore of Three Springs, who had resided in her home and cared for her for the past four years, and by numerous other nieces and nephews. She is survived by three grandnieces, who helped with her care in the past years. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters. Mrs. Ruch was a member of the Three Springs Senior Center, where she served as past president; Friends of the Library of Huntingdon County; and the Three Springs Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She lived in Philadelphia before retiring to Three Springs in 1978. She had worked at Nan Duskins of Philadelphia as a manicurist until her retirement. She enjoyed adventure and traveled throughout the United States. She was treated to a hot air balloon ride for her 84th birthday and a roller coaster adventure for her 86th. A funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Shade Gap, with the Rev. George Koharchik officiating. Interment will be made at the convenience of the family. Dorothy E. CHILCOTE, 75, of McKinley Ave., West Wyomissing, formerly of the Huntingdon area, died at 7 a.m. July 7, 2002, at Spruce Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, West Reading, where she had resided since October 2002. Born in King, Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Ethel (Defibaugh) Ritchey. She was married to Robert F. Chilcote. She is survived by a son and a daughter: David T., at home, and Mary A. (Chilcote) Kelly, Wyomissing; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A sister, Betty (Ritchey) Turner of Altoona, survives. Mrs. Chilcote was predeceased by two brothers, Lloyd Ritchey and George Ritchey Sr. Mrs. Chilcote was a graduate of Altoona High School, Class of 1944. She was employed for 12 years as a secretary by Reading Area Community College, retiring in 2000. A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, July 15, at the Most Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Huntingdon, with the Rev. David Arseneault officiating. Interment will be made in Holy Cross Cemetery, Huntingdon. Edward E. DIXON, 72, of Indiana, Pa., died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at his residence. Born Nov. 24, 1929, in Saxton, he was the son of Clarence and Lena (Reed) Dixon. He was married to Dolores R. Dixon. She survives at their home. He is survived by six daughters and two sons: Robin Kurcsic, Mrs. Edward (Holly) Oberlin, Diana Semsick, Mrs. John (Susan) Petrosky, all of Indiana Pa.; Jerry Dixon, Defiance; Cathy Wilson, Rochester, N.Y.; Peter Dixon, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and Tina Dixon, Rochester, N.Y.; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister survive; William, his twin brother, of Bel Aire, Md.; Robert of Lewistown; and Gladys Slick of Alum Bank. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael; and by three sisters and one brother, Helen, Thelma, Alice and Junior. Mr. Dixon was of the Protestant faith. He held memberships in the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Indiana, Pa., and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Saxton. A graduate of Saxton-Liberty High School, he was employed as a supervisor for Penelec for 40 years. He enjoyed walking, camping and fishing at Raystown Lake. Private graveside services will be held in Saxton. Dorothy Louise SMITH, 72, of Walker Twp., Huntingdon, R.R. 4, died at 12:40 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2002, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Susan L. and Marcus Chappell of McConnellstown. Born July 6, 1930, in Dudley, she was the daughter of the late Donald Montgomery and Mildred (Quarry) Montgomery Cummins. She married Paul Keith "Jack" Smith Sept. 6, 1948, in Winchester, Va. Mr. Smith preceded her in death Oct. 31, 1991. She is survived by three daughters and a son: Mrs. Fred (Vicki) Brown, Big Valley; Mrs. Theodore (Deborah) Keppler, Huntingdon; Stephen D. Smith, Turner, Ore.; and Mrs. Marcus (Susan L.) Chappell, McConnellstown. Nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren survive. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Terry L. Keppler. A brother and two sisters survive: Terry Cummins, Walker Twp., Huntingdon; Mrs. Edward (Mary) Myers, Petersburg; and Mrs. Hayden (Patricia) Walker, Three Springs. Mrs. Smith attended the McConnellstown United Church of Christ. She was a former member of the advisory board of Children's Services of Huntingdon County. She was a member of the McConnellstown Grange; a Huntingdon County 4-H leader; a Girl Scout leader; a member of the Auxiliary of the McConnellstown Volunteer Fire Company, where she held several offices and was president for 20 years; a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge No. 223, Huntingdon, where she served as senior regent; a member of the Post home Association of the Standing Stone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1754, Huntingdon; and a member of the Post Home Association of William P Spyker American Legion Post No. 520 in Alexandria. A lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, she had lived at her Walker Twp. home since her marriage. She had worked for a number of years as a waitress at Strickler's restaurant, Martha Green's Restaurant and the Huntingdon Country Club. She retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas, where she had worked in the forming room. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed traveling with her daughters and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, 207 Ridge Road, Smithfield Twp, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Edward S. Gobrecht officiating. Interment will be made in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Twp., Huntingdon. Victor M. CURTI JR., 58, of 65 Lake View Drive, James Creek, died suddenly Monday, July 8, 2002, while he was in Newfoundland, Canada. Mr. Curti had previously resided in Crafton and Bethel Park. He was born April 29, 1944, to Victor M. and Viola Curti. His mother survives. He was preceded in death by his father. Mr. Curti is survived by his wife, Dianne, at home; one daughter, Jennifer Curti and two sons. Victor Curti and Matthew Curti. One brother, Robert Curti, also survives. He was a member of St. Philip Church, Crafton. Mr. Curti was a member of ASHRAE, a professional engineering organization. He was employed by Ruthrauff, a heating and air conditioning firm in the Pittsburgh area, for over 27 years. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at St. Philip Church, 44 West Crafton Ave., Crafton, with Father Walter Dworak officiating. Committal will be made in Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh. Dorothy Missouri (Snyder) EBERLE, 83, of West Twp., Petersburg, R.R. 1, died at 5:39 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2002, at Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon, where she had been a resident since January 1995. Born Oct. 20, 1918, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Nettie (Ranck) Snyder. She was married to A. Confer Eberle Nov. 26, 1949, at the First Methodist Church, Huntingdon. Mr. Eberle survives at their Petersburg residence. She is survived by two nieces. She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Bard, and two brothers, Watson and Clarence Snyder. Mrs. Eberle was a member of the Petersburg-Bethel Presbyterian Church, Petersburg. A lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, she was a member of the Shavers Creek Valley Grange No. 353 and its 7th Degree Club and the Shavers Creek Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary. A graduate of Huntingdon High School, Class of 1938, she served as the West Twp. Tax Collector during the 1970s and early 1980s. She was a licensed beautician and had also worked at Budget Plan for a number of years. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at the Petersburg-Bethel Presbyterian Church, Route 305, Petersburg, with Pastors David L. Benfer and Robert H. Cauffman officiating. Private interment will be made in Mooresville Cemetery. Marlin H. FIELDS, 66, of Lewistown, died at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Harrisburg General Hospital, Harrisburg. Born Dec. 18, 1935, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Walter and Ethel (Herrington) Fields. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Leigh Ann) Kutz, Burke, Va. and Mrs. Steve (Yvonne) Boozel, McVeytown; four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Miles (Doris) Shaffer, Johnstown, also survives. He was a member of McVeytown Presbyterian Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and a trustee. He had previously served on the board of directors. A past president of the Mifflin County Board of Realtors, he was also a member and past president of the Central Pa. Appraisal Institute. He was an original member of the Lewistown Solid Waste Authority and was active in various other professional and community activities. He was a member of the Lewistown Country Club, having served as a member of the board of directors previously and at the time of his death. He was past president, serving several terms; was a member of the finance committee and the house committee at the time of his death and was chairman of the marketing committee. Mr. Fields was a member of the State College Chamber of Commerce. He sponsored the Martin Fields Ladies' Invitational Golf Tournament , a yearly event to promote cancer awareness, at the Lewistown Country Club. A graduate of Rothrock High School Class of 1954, he graduated from Shippensburg State College with the Class of 1958. Mr. Fields also did graduate work at Penn State University. Since 1982 he was the owner/realtor of Marlin H. Fields Real Estate. He was previously employed as a high school teacher in Mount Union and taught in the business department at the Mifflin/Juniata Vo-Tech School in Lewistown. He had also served as office manager for S.I. Yoder Oil Company in Belleville; as controller at Fullington Bus Company, Clearfield; and as a realtor for Phil Gingerich Real Estate, Lewistown. He was president of Mexico Forge Inc., Reedsville. Mr. Fields was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. Interment will be made at Juniata Memorial Park. Mona M. PITTMAN, 70, of 2183 Shermans Valley Road, Hopewell, died at 12:38 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring. Born March 20, 1932, in Hopewell, she was the daughter of the late Foster and Bertha (Deshong) Strait. she was united in marriage to Russell Pittman June 19, 1953, in Hopewell. Mr. Pittman survives at their home. She is survived by a son and two daughters: Foster Pittman, at home; Bertha (Byrd) Pittman of Johnstown; and Mrs. John (Gloria) Venet of Windber; one grandson and one great-grandson. A son, David Pittman, preceded her in death. A sister, Nellie Sarver of Manns Choice, survives. She was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters: Thomas, James, John, Frankie and Robert Strait, June Chaney, May Steele, Kate Barton and Savannah Neal. Mrs. Pittman was a member of the Shermans Valley Brethren in Christ Church. During her lifetime, she was primarily a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles and her flower gardens. Box 95 Hopewell, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at 10:15 p.m. in St. John's Lutheran Care Center, Mars, following a lengthy illness. Born May 29, 1915, in Hopewell, he was a son of the late Arnold and Vera (Williams) Chaney. He was united in marriage to Louise Cottle Nov. 19, 1938, in Saxton. Mrs. Chaney survives at home. He is also survived by four daughters: Vera Patricia Reid, Valencia, Calif.; Peggy Joyce Corbin, Pittsburgh; Dorothy Jean Kikel, Irwin, and Ruth Elaine Clark, Novi, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Chaney was preceded in death by three brothers: Arnold Francis Chaney, William Paul Chaney and Jack Chaney and one sister, Mary Chaney. He was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church. Mr. Chaney also held membership in Aliquippa Lodge F&AM, McKeesport and Syria Temple, Pittsburgh. He was a life member of the Broad Top Old-timers Baseball Association which he served as secretary/treasurer for many years. He had been employed in the CC camps and had also worked as a coal miner. Mr. Chaney retired, in 1970, from U.S. Steel's Homestead mill after 15 years as a crane operator. He was a graduate of Defiance High School. Mr. Chaney enjoyed baseball and hunting. John M. APPLEBY, 66, 53 Ponds Edge Drive, Downingtown, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Brandywine Hospital, Coatesville. Born Sept. 10, 1935, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Thomas and Verna (Kyper) Appleby. He was the husband of Marjory Appleby with whom he shared 27 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jarrett B. Appleby, Greenwood Village, Colo. and Brian K. Appleby, Reading; one daughter, Pamela L. Appleby, Greenwood Village, Colo., and two grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers and one sister: Thomas Appleby, Somers Point, N.J.; Robert Appleby, Hesston; David Appleby, Palmyra; Duncan Appleby, Camp Hill; Landry Appleby, Annville and Ardith Hicks, Mount Union. A son, Tristan S. Appleby, preceded him in death. Mr. Appleby was a 1953 graduated of Huntingdon High School where he was the quarterback of the football team. He also played basketball. Following one year at Juniata College, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he achieved the rank of 2nd lieutenant. He then attended Millersville University where he played football and graduated with a BS in education. He earned a master's degree in education from West Chester University in 1971 and principal certification from the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Appleby was employed as a teacher of social studies and coach of football, basketball and track at Downingtown High School for 40 years before retiring in 1997. He also served as assistant principal and department head and he was the chief negotiator for the Downingtown Area Education Association. A devoted family man, he enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading about American history and spending tine with his grandchildren. Born May 13, 1944, in Huntingdon, he was a son of Ruby (Enders) Hoover of State line and the late Lester Hoover. He was married to Frances J. Keebaugh Feb. 20, 1965, In Hustonstown. Mrs. Hoover survives at their home. Mr. Hoover is survived by one daughter and two sons: Michelle Eichelberger, McConnellsburg; Christopher P. Hoover, Dauphin; and Michael F. Hoover, Hustontown; and five grandchildren. Two brothers, Dale H. Hoover, McConnellsburg and Robert Hoover, Mercersburg; and two sisters, Lucinda Keesecker, Hedgesville, W.Va. and Vicki Sipes, McConnellsburg, survive. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, McConnellsburg. Mr. Hoover was a member of the McConnellsburg Fire Company. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict having served with the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Hoover was last employed as a park ranger for the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation of Natural Resources (DCNR). In earlier years, he had worked at the Letterkenny Army Depot for 11 years and had also been a truck driver, battery salesman and a service station owner. Interment will be made in Hustontown Cemetery, Hustontown. Evelyn Nestbitt DIEHL, 80, of 116 Palmer Street, Hopewell, formerly of Alexandria, died at 9:10 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Feb. 2, 1922, in Bedford, she was a daughter of the late Esty and Viola Margaret Price. She married Earl John Nickolas Diehl. Mr. Diehl preceded her in death July 11, 1983. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Hess, Hopewell; a son, John Diehl, Tyrone; and two grandsons. A sister, Kathryn Morris, Everett, also survives. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace Whitsel, Pearl Ferguson and Bell Elliott and three brothers, Andrew, Samuel and Charles Price. She had resided with her daughter in Hopewell for the past 18 months. Prior to that she had lived in Tyrone with her son for three years and in State College since the 1970s. She had been a resident of Alexandria for many years following her marriage. Mrs. Diehl attended the Church of the Nazarene. She was retired from the food service department at Penn State University. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and crafts. He is survived by four sons and one daughter: Michael S. McNeal, Alabaster, Ala.; D. Edward McNeal, Huntingdon; Thomas L. McNeal, Louisville, Ky.; and William G. McNeal and Debra M. Born in Dudley, Dec. 15, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Newt and Annie (Williams) Black. She was formerly married to Paul Hamilton. She is survived by a son, Donald Hamilton of Saxton and two grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Ora Baker of Huntingdon, and Eva Donaldson, Saxton, and a nephew, Gary Black, who was reared in the Hamilton home. Mrs. Hamilton was preceded in death by four brothers, Bill, Newt, Chester "Tots" and Jess Black. She was a member of Saxton First Church of God. She was very active in church activities and in the Broad Top Senior Citizen's Center. Mrs. Hamilton worked as a cuff and collar turner at Quality Manufacturing, Saxton. Audrey Jean BILGER, 61, of Rockhill Furnace, died at 10:45 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, where she had been a resident since March. She had been in failing health. Born May 8, 1941, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Marie (Rabenstein) Morgan. She married Willard "Sonny" Bilger June 13, 1959, at Rockhill Furnace. He survives at their home. Also surviving are three children: Mrs. Jeff (Donna) Snare, Huntingdon; Mrs. Richard (Theresa) Haberger, Columbia Falls, Mont.; and Mr. and Mrs. Robert "Bob" Bilger, Rockhill Furnace and six grandchildren. One brother, Dean Morgan of Rockhill Furnace also survives. Mrs. Bilger was a member of the Rockhill Church of the Brethren where she was church organist and pianist for many years. A 1959 graduate of Orbisonia High School, she was employed for over 25 years as site manager for the Area Agency of Aging office at Orbisonia. Prior to that she had been employed at the Greif Brothers Manufacturing Co., Mount Union and the Shirley Home for the Aged, Shirleysburg. She enjoyed planting and growing flowers and quilting. Blair Memorial Hospital Huntingdon. She was in her usual health and death was unexpected. Born March 23, 1923, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Orlando and Eleanor (Anderson) Rinker. She married Ralph J. Dean April 3, 1943, in Huntingdon. He preceded her in death Dec. 8, 1999. She is survived by two children, Loraine A. Dean of McConnellstown and Fern A. Dean of Mount Union. Also surviving are six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A son, Ronald R. Dean, preceded her in death. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Rinker, and three sisters; Catherine Enyeart, Edith Lloyd and Eva Thompson. Mrs. Dean was a member of Oasis of Love Church in McConnellstown. During her life, she had worked at the Martinsburg Shoe Factory and Elco Corp. in Huntingdon but she was primarily a homemaker. Francis Jerome "Tootie" SCHNEIDER, of California, formerly of Huntingdon, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2002, at Temple City Convalescent Hospital, Temple City, Calif., following an extended illness. His wife, Dixie survives. A graduate of Huntingdon High School, Class of 1932, Mr. Schneider studied music arrangement and had a local band. He became known professionally as Fran Scott. In the 1930's, he was a member of the Ray Pearl Band before becoming a member of the Freddy Martin Orchestra. After leaving that orchestra, he did music arranging for several bands and became affiliated with the Blue Barron Orchestra, with which he arranged music and did the programming when the band had theater dates. He spent approximately 13 years with The Modernaires, Glenn Miller's vocal group. Funeral services were held July 18 at Holy Angels Church, Arcadia, Calif. Olga J. (Roll) FRIED, 67, of Susquehanna Twp., Harrisburg, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at her residence. She was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna Roll. Mrs. Fried is survived by three sons: Eric W. Fried, Dauphin; Gregory T. Fried, Middletown; and Bryan D. Fried, Harrisburg. There are three grandchildren. One sister, Mary Ann Gales, Brooklyn, N.Y., and one brother, Walter V. She was a member of Keystone Women's Investment Club. A graduate of Mount Union High School, class of 1954, she had lived in the Harrisburg area since her graduation. John Victor ROMIG JR., 52 of Whiskey Springs Road, Dillsburg, died Tuesday afternoon, July 16, 2002, at his home. Born Oct. 6, 1949, at Huntingdon, he was a son of Sue (Guyer) Romig of Waterfall and the late John V. Romig Sr. He is survived by one son, Michael A. Romig, Dillsburg, and five grandchildren. Born June 30, 1913, at Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Harry John and Virginia (Wheeler) Hummel. She was twice married. Her first marriage was to Raymond Hirth in New York, N.Y. Her second union was to George Henney at the Twelfth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. Both husbands preceded her in death. She is survived by seven daughters and one son: Florence M. "Snoozer" Henney, Barbara C. Morgan and Bart J. Hirth, all of Smithfield Twp., Huntingdon; Lorrie Norris Tumlin, Mrs. Fred (Naomi W.) Hess and Lucille "DeeDee" Brown, all of Huntingdon; Mrs. Sam (Catherine A. "Cassie") Horn, Mill Creek; and Mrs. Kenneth (Vicki R.) Norris, Alexandria; 21 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Erma Oldring of South Carolina and Virginia " DeDe" Swanger of State College and one brother, Richard Hummel of Canton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by two sons: Harry Hirth, in 1959, and Raymond L. "Poppy" Hirth, in 2001; three grandsons: Fent Norris, Carl Hess and Donald Foster; a great-granddaughter: Amy Grove; two brothers: Johnny and Elmer Hummel; and three sisters: Clara Price, Ruth Murphy and Helen Bennett. Mrs. Henney attended the Huntingdon congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, Huntingdon. She attended the Huntingdon public schools. She had worked for a number of years at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital and at Owens Corning Fiberglas. She retired, after a long number of years, from Gerbo Footwear, predecessor to US Sports. Born Oct. 18, 1908, at Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Robert Walter and Mary (Decker) Roth. He was married to Dorothy Wagner. She preceded him in death April 21, 2000. He is survived by one daughter, Marianne R. Arney, Swatara Twp., Harrisburg, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A sister, Elizabeth Swivel McElwee, preceded him in death. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, following a brief illness. Born Dec. 2, 1925, in Altoona, she was the daughter of John S. and Florence Frederick, both deceased. She was united in marriage to Archie W. Christy, who preceded her in death Aug. 22, 1985. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Cloyd "Butch" (Patricia M.) Barr of Alexandria, and one grandson. A sister, Wilma Gallagher of Altoona, survives. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Ginny Ross, Vera Hartman and Isabelle Frederick, and two brothers, John and Robert Frederick. Mrs. Christy was of the Protestant faith. She was a member of the Auxiliary of William P. Spyker American Legion Post 520, Alexandria, and a former member of the Lioness Club of Altoona. Mrs. Christy was primarily a homemaker, but did work a number of years as a waitress in Juniata Twp. and Altoona, and at the former Arrow Shirt Factory in Huntingdon. She had been a resident of Huntingdon County for the past 37 years and made her home at Juniata Village for the past 10 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family. He is survived by six daughters and two sons: Donna Love, New Orleans, La.; Mrs. Chris (Linda) Marshall, Dallas, Texas; Peggy Jennings, Madank, Texas; Mrs. Don (Bonnie) Lewis, Lewisville, Texas; Mrs. Josh (Kathleen) Wissner, Landonburg; Mrs. James (Margaret) Marshall, Akron, Ohio; Larry Rouke, New York, N.Y.; and Dennis Michael Rourke, Akron, Ohio; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters and seven brothers: Orla Hopkins, State College; Gwendolyn Houp, Columiana, Ohio; Laura Wright, Chambersburg; Dean Rourke, Leesburg, Va.; William Rourke, Robertsdale; Dennis Rourke, Broad Top City; Gary Rourke, Chambersburg; Robert Rourke, Massillon, Ohio; Homer Rourke, James Creek; and Warren Rourke, Saxton. A production worker at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., Akron, Ohio, Mr. Rourke retired after 40 years of service. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the armed forces from 1944 to 1945. Born Jan. 14, 1928, in Cromwell Twp., Huntingdon County, he was the son of Paul and Myrtle (Barron) Painter, both deceased. He married Peggy Whitsel May 19, 1961. He is survived by his wife at home and one daughter, Mrs. Steve (Barbara Ann) McEwen of Alexandria, one grandson and one great-granddaughter. He is survived by two brothers, Orlando and Robert Painter, both of Mount Union, and four sisters: Thelma Stevens, Doris Miller, Lois Price, all of Mount Union, and Donna Ramsey of Shirleysburg. Born May 30, 1982, at Hershey, she was a daughter of Kevin J. and Linda (Anders) Leader. Her parents survive at their Warriors Mark Twp. residence. She is also survived by one sister and two brothers: Jackie H. Leader, Kevin J. Leader Jr. and Keith M. She had been in failing health for the past several months. Born Dec. 26, 1902, at Everett, she was a daughter of the late Pinkney and Savannah (Smith) Smith. She married Issac Whitfield Jan. 2, 1921, in Cumberland, Md. Mr. Whitfield died April 20, 1968. She is survived by three children: Hazel Bonfante, Saxton; Gerald Whitfield, Hemet, Calif.; and Cleo Hahn, Hopewell; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by three brothers: Henry Smith, Elmer Smith and Elias Smith; one sister, Vera Smith; and one stepbrother, Sherman Smith. Mrs. Whitfield was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. She was a life member of Hopewell Area Senior Citizens. During her lifetime, she was primarily a homemaker. (Rudolph) GALBRAITH, 85, a resident of Valley View Home, 301 Valley View Blvd., Altoona, for the past year, formerly of Huntingdon, died at 7:10 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2002, at the Valley View Home. Born in Huntingdon Oct. 2, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Cloyd C. and Bessie M. (Decker) Rudolph. She married Donald J. Galbraith Sept. 24, 1942, in the Church of the Brethren parsonage, Huntingdon. Mr. Galbraith preceded her in death Sept. 13, 1989. She is survived by one son, Donald Paul "Skip" Galbraith of Spruce Creek, and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Jerry (Janice Galbraith) Hooper of Ligonier. There are seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. R. Daniel (Ruth) Barner, Huntingdon and one brother, Gail M. Rudolph, also of Huntingdon, survive. A sister, Bertha McCartney, preceded her in death. Mrs. Galbraith was a member of Community Chapel of Hesston where she was involved in various senior programs. She attended Huntingdon public schools and graduated from Huntingdon High School with the class of 1935. In the early 1940s, she was employed by the J.C. Blair Co. of Huntingdon, as a floor lady. Frank "Duce" REINERT, 67, of 111 Limestone Drive, Reading, formerly of Mill Creek, died Friday, July 19, 2002 in the VA Medical Center, Lebanon, of natural causes. Born Dec. 3, 1934, in Pottstown, he was a son of the late Frank and Verna (Levan) Reinert. His stepfather, Robert Kalis of Pottstown, survives. Mr. Reinert is survived by two daughters and one son: Verna Yost, Holiday, Fla.; Donna Hodges, Reading; and Blake Reinert, Spring City; and two grandchildren. Born Nov. 4, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Alphonse and Lucia (Ferrara) DeLieto. She was married to Urban D. Rourke for over 52 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Dianne M. Kenney, Fayetteville, N.C.; Patricia L. McLaughlin, Overland Park, Kan.; and Debra R. Ross, Richmond Va; one son, Urban D. Rourke Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.; and seven grandchildren. Born July 25, 1917, at McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late Elva and William Hamm. She was married to James B. Robinson, who preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Earl D. (Mabel A.) Curry, Buford, Ga; and Mrs. George C. (Janice B.) Amigh, Johnstown. There are five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A sister, Grace Glunt, McKeesport, also survives. She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Hamm, and her twin sister, Mabel Hemminger. Mrs. Robinson attended Valley View Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Mrs. Robinson owned and operated a beauty salon until returning to school to complete her bachelor's degree and earn a master's degree in elementary education from California State Teacher's College at the age of 52. She retired from the McKeesport Area School District. Following her retirement, she resided in Hesston. She was active in the homemaker's association, Grange and area quilt and craft shows. Thelma J. SMITH, 70, of 2559 U.S. Hwy. 522 S., McVeytown, died at approximately 6 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital, Lewistown. Born Sept. 28, 1931, in Oliver Twp., Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late J. Emmert and Bernice (Crosson) Ranck. She was married to James M. Smith July 26, 1947, in Newton Hamilton, by the Rev. John Hoover. Mr. Smith survives. She is survived by the following children: Dorothy Gearhart, McVeytown; Kenneth M. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Feb. 9, 1934, at Claysburg, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary (Roland) Shore. She married Melvin "Buck" Gillam Sept. 2, 1950, in Alexandria. Mr. Gilliam preceded her in death in 1980. She is survived by two sons, Donald E. Gillam, Englewood, Ohio; Paul E. Gillam, Huntingdon; two daughters, Joann E. Hutchison, Alexandria; and Marie E. Interment will be made in Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery, Alexandria. Michael S. YELOVICH, 70, of 31 Front Drive, Mount Union, died at 8 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, following an extended illness. Born Oct. 7, 1931, in Simpson, he was a son of the late Michael and Rose (Dyanek) Yelovich. He married Jean Elizabeth Andrews Jan. 30, 1956, at St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union. She survives at their home. He is survived by one son and four daughters: Michael Yelovich, Mount Zion, ILL.; Christine Yelovich, Carlisle; Josephine Neagley, Bonaire, Ga.; Andrea Christoff, Mount Union; and Pamela Kouns, Grayson, Ky.; and 11 grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters, Joseph Yelovich, Ambrose Yelovich, Mary Ann Wasnock and Victoria Barrett, all of Florida, also survive. Mr. Yelovich was a member of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Catherine of Sienna Council No. 6106, having served as grand knight. He was a member of the Fourth Degree, serving as faithful navigator, and was a member of the Color Corps Padre Pio Association. He was a 1949 graduate of Fell Twp. High School, Simpson. He received his post-secondary education from Lock Haven University where, in 1956, he graduated with a BS degree in health and physical education. He earned a master's degree in educational administration from The Pennsylvania State University in 1961. He retired, in 1986, after 30 years of teaching with the Southern Huntingdon County School District. An avid sports enthusiast, he played varsity basketball, baseball and football at the collegiate level. He took up the game of golf in the late 1950s and went on the hold nine club championships at the American Legion Country Club, Mount Union. In 1995, he was recognized by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Inc. (PIAA) for 39 years of dedication and participation in officiating high school basketball. Mr. Yelovich and his wife enjoyed traveling within the United States, Mexico and the British Isles. At Mr. Yelovich's request, there will be a private service at the convenience of the family and no viewing or visitation. Alfred Lee SCOTT, known as Lee, 72, of Cary, N.C., originally from Orbisonia, died July 22, 2002, at his home. He was the son of the late Harold and Ruth Scott. Survivors include his wife, Ellen; two sons, Douglas and Stephen Scott; and three grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Ralph (Patti) Sutton, also survives. Mr. Scott was a 1948 graduate of Orbisonia High School where his mother served as English teacher and librarian. Following graduation, he attended Juniata College where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and economics. Following his graduation from college, he joined the U.S. Navy. He attended Officer Candidate School in Providence, R.I. and entered active service as an ensign on the USS Salem, the flag ship of the sixth fleet. After completion of active service, in 1955, he continued his service in the Naval Reserves where he retired as a commander after a total of 22 years service. He began his career as a programmer for IBM Corporation in 1960, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Between 1965 and 1981, he worked for IBM in Washington, D.C., where he held various positions, including marketing representative and systems engineer, supporting IBM's account with the U.S. Navy. He completed the last ten years of his 32 year career with IBM at Research Triangle Park, N.C., holding the position of team leader in network system product testing. Mr. Scott had many interests, including World War II Memorabilia, aircraft and seafaring history, NASCAR racing, Redskins football, travel and good food. Along with a friend, he attended every Daytona 500 race from 1970 through 1998. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel, Cary, N.C. WARNICK, 90, of Huntingdon Manor, Warm Springs Avenue, Huntingdon, and formerly of Entriken, died at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Huntingdon Manor. He had been in failing health. Born April 27, 1912, at Barton, Md., he was a son of the late Ermer and Clara (Garlitz) Warnick. He was reared in the home of James Dallard, McConnellstown. He was twice married. His first union was to Almeda Shetrom. Two daughters from that union survive: Mrs. Edward (Barbara) McEwen and Mrs. William (Frances) Randolph, both of Huntingdon. He married Mary Beulah Ford Jan. 2, 1948, in the parsonage of the United Church of Christ, Marklesburg. Mrs. Warnick survives at their Lincoln Twp., Entriken residence. One daughter from this union survives: Mrs. Gary (Carol) M.) Stephens, McConnellstown. There are 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Evelyn Weld, preceded him in death. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers and three half brothers and one half sister. Mr. Warnick was a member of St. Matthew's United Church of Christ, Entirken. He was a member of the former Huntingdon No. 2 Fire Co.; the Marklesburg Volunteer Fire Co.; the Woodcock Valley Sportsmen's Club. Markelsburg, and Mead retirees. He was a charter member of the Bald Hill Bear Camp, Tioga County. He was on the Huntingdon Area School Board at the time the Huntingdon Area High School was built. He was a Lincoln Twp. supervisor for many years. He was educated in the public schools of McConnellstown. Mr. Warnick began his employment with the J.C. Blair Company in January 1930, and retired as a machinist in the envelope department after 44 years of service, from what is now Mead Westvaco, in 1974. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a gunsmith and a football and baseball fan who actively supported all Huntingdon sporting events. (Shope) RICHARDS, 94, of The Homestead at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Westminster Woods. Born July 10, 1908, at Windber, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Laura B. (Younker) Shope. She was married to Lee O. Richard, Feb. 20, 1926, at Huntingdon, by the Rev. G.R. Albans. Mr. Richards survives at The Homestead. Two sons and one daughter also survive: Harold E. Richards, Hollidaysburg; Lee O. Richards Jr., Hermitage, and Mrs. James (Betty L.) Stone, Lexington, Ky. There are 15 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters and one brother: Ethel Goecke, Beavercreek, Ohio; Mrs. Eugene (Dorothy) Spriggle, Valparaiso, Ind.; Miles E. Shope, Huntingdon; Mrs. George (Virginia) Morgan, Huntingdon; and Mrs. Chester (Irene) Grissinger, Huntingdon. She was preceded in death by one son, David, and the following brothers and sisters: Walter Shope Sr., Clara DeArmitt, Albert Shope Sr., Nathaniel Shope, Samuel Shope, Ellsworth Shope, Esther Shope, Warren Shope and Raymond Eugene Shope. Mrs. Richards was a member of Twelfth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, where she held various positions in the church. She was a member and past matron of Huntingdon Chapter No. 159 Order of Eastern Star, past matron of Juniata Chapter No. 121 Order of the Amaranth and former member of Rebekah Lodge. She had been employed at the Huntingdon Throwing Mill, Owens Corning Fiberglas and Poser's Department Store before she retired. Cyrus Benjamin RITCHEY, 51, of Winter Haven, Fla., died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Winter Haven Hospital, following a battle with cancer. he was born Sept. 26, 1950, in Huntingdon. His wife, Laurie, survives in Winter Haven. Four sons and one daughter also survive: David Ritchey, Greencastle; Travis Ritchey, Shirleysburg; Cory Ritchey and Skyler Ritchey, both of Winter Haven; and Angel Ritchey, Tampa, Fla. There ar two grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Harold Ritchey of Pennsylvania; and five sisters: Judy Varner, Shirleysburg; Connie Walker, Hawthorne; and Linda Ritchey, Millie Wible and Joy Dull, all of Mount Union. Mr. Ritchey was of the Assembly of God faith. He retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas and moved to Winter Haven from Shirleysburg in 1984. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mabel (Shade) EMFIELD, 84, of 306 Seventh St., Huntingdon, died at 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at Huntingdon Manor, Warm Springs Avenue, Huntingdon. Born June 22, 1918, at Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late George Warren and Elsie (Ferne) Shade. She married Robert Finley Emfield Feb. 14, 1942, in Winchester, Va. Mr. Emfield preceded her in death May 27, 1986. One son, Barry W. Emfield of Huntingdon, survives. There are three grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister and two brothers: Virginia Marie Lightner, Huntingdon; Merle Elwood Shade, Hesston; and Donald Paul Shade, Manawa, Wis. Five brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Mrs. Emfield was a member of Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Huntingdon. Educated in the public schools of Huntingdon, she graduated from Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1936. She attended Pruonto's Beauty School, Altoona, and graduated in 1968. She owned and operated a beauty shop on Seventh Street in Huntingdon from 1968 until 1995. Mrs. Emfield enjoyed bingo, social events, church, crossword puzzles and local traveling and site-seeing. Interment will be made in Donation Cemetery, Oneida Twp. Bonnie Kay (Johnson) RINKER, 56, of Walker Twp., Huntingdon, R.R. 1, died at 5:35 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2002, at her Walker Twp. Home. Born May 27, 1946, at Huntingdon, she was the daughter of Walter A. "Bill" and Betty (McKenzie) Johnson. Her mother survives at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon; her father at his Smithfield Twp. residence. She married Larry Glenn Rinker Sept. 8, 1964, at the First United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. Mr. Rinker survives at home. One son, Larry Glenn Rinker Jr., Hartslog Valley, Huntingdon, and two grandsons also survive. A member of the Trough Creek Valley Community Church, Todd. Mrs. Rinker also attended Hesston Community Chapel, Hesston. She graduated from Huntingdon Area High School with the Class of 1964. Mrs. Rinker had been employed by Gerbo for about ten years and at the Mactown Mini-Mart for five years. She and her cousin also operated a concession business, "Cookin Cousins," and along with her cousin and other family members, she enjoyed traveling with the concession booth to local fairs and sales. A lifetime resident of Huntingdon, she had been a resident of Huntingdon, she had been a resident of her Walker Twp. home since May 1973. Her main interests were her grandsons and her home. APPLEBY, 93, of York, formerly of Huntingdon, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at York County Nursing Home. Born March 8, 1909, at Millerstown, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Lenora M. (Bailor) Stahl. She is survived by two sons, Reuben E. Appleby, New Cumberland, and Lawrence F. Appleby, York. There are eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. A son, James N. Appleby, preceded her in death. Mrs. Appleby was a member of Fourth United Methodist Church of York and the Busy Bee Sunday School class of the church. Division St., Mount Union, died unexpectedly at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital, Lewistown. Born Sept. 19, 1946, at Waynesboro, he was the son of the late George A. and H. Virginia "Ginny" (Greathead) Bitner. He married Linda M. Stewart Oct. 10, 1970, at Chambersburg. Mrs. Bitner survives at home. Two daughters survive: Jody L. Baker, Huntingdon, and Stacy L. Coulter, Fort Riley, Kan. There is one granddaughter. A half sister, Judith Shatzer of Upper Strasburg, also survives. Mr. Bitner was a member of Abbey Reformed United Church of Christ, Huntingdon. He was a member of the Mount Union Lions Club and F&AM Lodge No. 688, Mount Union. He was also a member of the board of directors for the Tri-County Drug and alcohol Commission, Lewistown. A 1966 graduate of Chambersburg Area High School, he served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. He was employed by Suburban Propane of Burnham since 1997. SHOPE, 84, of 2751 Warm Springs Ave., Huntingdon, died at 4:59 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born November 6, 1917, at Logan Twp., Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Francis and Laura Belle (Younker) Shope. He was united in marriage to E. Lucille Norris July 16, 1940, at Winchester, Va., by the Rev. Obugh. Mrs. Shope survives at home. Two daughters, Dorothy S. Coffman, Yeagertown; and Mrs. Larry (Dianna) Ross, Akron, Pa., survive. He is also survived by one grandson, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter. Four sisters survive: Ethel Goecke, Beavercreek, Ohio; Mrs. Eugene (Dorothy) Spriggle, Valparaiso, Ind.; Mrs. George (Virginia) Morgan, Huntingdon; and Mrs. Chester(Irene) Grissinger, Huntingdon. He was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: Walter Shope Sr., Calar DeArmitt, Albert Shope Sr., Clara DeArmitt, Albert Shope Sr., Edith R. Richards, Nathaniel Shope, Samuel Shope, Elsworth Shope, Esther Shope, Warren Shope and Raymond Eugene Shope. Mr. Shope was a member of Twelfth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, where he served in various capacities. He was a member of the Huntingdon Lions Club for many years and was given the Melvin Jones award. He served on the board for Meals on Wheels in Huntingdon. Mr. Shope graduated from Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1937. A carpenter all his life, he had been employed by E.B. Endres Lumber Co.; L.C. Anderson Co. and E.D. "Shorty" Shope Construction Co. He was last employed by Paul Hickes Co., from which he retired in 1988. During World War II he served as a U.S. Navy Seabee in the South Pacific. Private funeral services, with the Rev. David Dearing officiating, will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be made in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon. Kenneth R. FOUSE, 92, of James Creek, R.R. 1 (Lincoln Twp.), died at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He was born in Lincoln Twp. Sept. 17, 1909, the son of the late Rupley and Ada (Snare) Fouse. He was united in marriage to Frances Weller in Hagerstown, Md. Mrs. Fouse preceded him in death March 6, 1998. One daughter, Mrs. Nathan (Susan) Geiger of West Orange, N.J., survives. Also surviving are a brother, Clyde Fouse of James Creek, and a sister, Esther States of Huntingdon. Two sisters, Blanche Lynn and Lena Fouse, preceded him in death. Mr. Fouse was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Marklesburg. He was educated in the public schools of Lincoln Twp. He was a dairy farmer, was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Zion United Church of Christ, Marklesburg, with the Rev. Levain Fouse officiating. Interment will be made in the Reformed Church Cemetery, Marklesburg. Joyce B. BLOOM, 82, of Huntingdon, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona. Born Aug. 10, 1919, in Centre County, she was a daughter of the late George Miles and Alice (Garbrick) Bloom. She married Charles Albert "Curly" Bloom Feb. 9, 1944. Mr. Bloom died Sept. 6, 2001. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Porter (Yvonne) Caldwell, Mount Laurel, N.J.; two sons, Charles Albert Bloom II, Mount Holly, N.J.; and Craig A. Bloom, Hesston. There are four grandchildren. One brother, Miles G. Bloom, State College, survives. Mrs. Bloom was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pine Grove Mills. She was a member of the Airstream Club. A 1937 graduate of State College Area High School, she was an executive secretary for RCA, Moorestown, N.J., for 35 years. She was then employed in the registrar's office at Penn State University. She enjoyed hunting and fishing and had helped her husband to build their boat. She also enjoyed embroidery. Funeral services will beheld at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College, with the Rev. Steven C. Claycomb officiating. Interment will be made in Centre County Memorial Park. Dolores Jean "D.J." (Bair) FERGUSON, 69, of Cumberland, Md., died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md. Born July 29, 1933, in Shade Gap, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Marian (Wykoff) Bair. Surviving are one son, Valentine Shoop of Fort Loudon, and one grandson. Two sisters, Linda K. (Bair) Poole of Warfordsburg, and Barbara Ann Parks of Shade Gap, and a brother, Randy Bair of Maddensville, as well as several other family members also survive. Ms. Ferguson was a homemaker. She was enlisted and advanced to lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 until 1953. She performed clerical duties while in the service. She attended the San Diego Community College and the University of California in La-Jolla. She participated in the Archway Station program. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Md., with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Shade Gap, at the convenience of the family. Ernest U. MILLER SR., 89, of Homewood at Martinburg, 430 S. Market St. Martinsburg, and formerly of McConnellstown, died at 6:25 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Nason Hospital in Roaring Spring. He had been in failing health for the past two months. Born in liberty Twp. Saxton, March 22, 1913, he was the son of the late Bersey and Rosa (Himes) Miller. He was united in marriage to Alma M. Brumbaugh June 3, 1937, in the Roaring Spring Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Simon Peter Early. Mrs. Miller survives at Homewood at Martinsburg. Also surviving are a son, Ernest U. Miller Jr. of Huntingdon, and a daughter, Linda M. Shultz of Alexandria. There are two grandchildren. Mr. Miller was a member of Riddlesburg Church of the Brethren and attended Trinity United Church of Christ, McConnellstown. He was educated in the Broad Top area Public schools and graduated from Broad Top Area High School, Class of 1933. He was employed as a bookkeeper at the Petit Coal Mine Co. in Riddlesburg from 1933 to 1943 and was proprietor of a grocery store in Riddlesburg from 1936 to 1943. He and his wife were the owners and operators of Miller's Food Square in McConnellstown from 1943 to 1982. Mr. Miller served as assistant postmaster in McConnellstown from 1963 until his retirement in 1984. He had been a resident of Homewood in Martinsburg since 1995. Mr. Miller was a member of the Bedford F&AM, Huntingdon Commandery and Jaffa Shrine, Altoona. He enjoyed reading, walking and most importantly, his former grocery store. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with the Rev. Edward S. Gobrecht and the Rev. Dr. Keith A. Kensinger officiating. Interment will be made in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon.
