MILLS, 59, of 721 Second Ave., rear, Altoona, formerly of Huntingdon, died at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003, at his residence. Born May 23, 1944, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Harry E. and Lena E. (Wright) Mills. He never married. He is survived by three sisters and two brothers: Elizabeth Putt, Donna Sheffield and Robert Mills, all of Huntingdon; Judy Decker of Bellefonte; and Richard Mills of Boiling Springs. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Mills and Fred Mills. Mr. Mills was a member of VFW Post No. 1754, Huntingdon. A 1962 graduate of Huntingdon Area High School, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed fishing and reading. It was Mr. Mills' request there he no public viewing. Charles I. "Spud" BISHOP JR., 74, of 1320 Washington St., Huntingdon, died at 10:02 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003, at The Oaks of Westminster Woods, Huntingdon. Born June 16, 1928, in West Twp., Petersburg, he was the son of the late Charles E. Sr. and Sarah (Bousom) Bishop.. He was united in marriage to the former L. Joann Amborse Nov. 21, 1952, at the United Brethren Church, Winchester, Va., with the Rev. Dick officiating. Mrs. Bishop survives at their home of over 40 years. One daughter and one son survive: Mrs. Robert T. (LuAnn J.) Bishop-Smith, Harrisburg; and Burke L. Bishop and his wife, Brenda (Landis), Huntingdon. He is survived by one granddaughter, Whitney J. Smith, and two step-grandchildren, Daniel and Crystal Bishop. One sister, Mrs. Samuel (Ethel Bishop) Metz of Petersburg, survives. He was preceded in death by one son, Mark Edward Bishop. Mr. Bishop was a member of Twelfth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. He was a former member of the Frank P. Hommon Post No. 24, American Legion and the Standing Stone Post No. 1754 Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Huntingdon. He attended the Petersburg public schools and graduated in 1946 from Petersburg Vocational High School. During the Korean Conflict, he served with the U.S. Air Force. From January 1948, until December 1951, he served as a medic and surgical technician, attaining the rank of corporal. For over 30 years, he was employed by Penelec, first as a groundman in 1952 and retiring as a hot stick lineman in 1982. During his tenure with Penelec, he was a member of Local No. 180, Utility Workers of America. He loved working on cars, swimming, high school wrestling, Little League baseball, cats, walking, Breyers ice cream and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Twelfth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Wayne L. Richards officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. Ethel M. LAMBERSON, 97, a resident of Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, formerly of R.R. 1, Box 90, Mapleton, died at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Woodland. She was a daughter of the late Jacob M. and Emma (Shore) Newman. She married Jesse F. Lamberson March 31, 1925. Mr. Lamberson preceded her in death Feb. 13, 1988. She is survived by three daughters and two sons: Mrs. Herman (Gloria) Arnold, Mapleton; Mrs. Charles (Evelyn) White, Newton Hamilton; and George Eugene Lamberson, Ray F. Lamberson and Mrs. Kenneth (June) Harven, all of Mapleton. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. she was preceded in death by an infant daughter and was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters: George Newman, Earl Newman, Curtis Newman, Elizabeth Kough and Naomi Runk. Mrs. Lamberson attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Mapleton, and had played the piano at the church at different times in past years. A homemaker, she enjoyed quilting. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Ed Seeley officiating. Interment will be made in the Mapleton IOOF Cemetery. Steven Lee SHULTZ, 44, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Monday, June 2, 2003, at Banner Baywood Medical Center, Phoenix, Ariz. His death was sudden and unexpected. He was born Dec. 13, 1958, in Huntingdon, the son of Rodney Maurice and Shirley Ann (Sprankle) Shultz. He was never married. He is survived by his father, Rodney M. Shultz; his mother, Shirley A. Painter; his step-father, James A. Painter; and step-brother, William C. Painter. He lived in Boston several years before moving to Phoenix. For the past 15 years, Mr. Shultz was associated with and, at the same time of his death, had owned Arizona Letterpress Services in Phoenix, Ariz. Mr. Shultz enjoyed outdoor activities such as mountain climbing, white water rafting, caving and scuba diving. A private, family graveside service and celebration of life was held June 13, at the Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul N. Marsteller officiating. Helen Love BARD, 76, died unexpectedly of natural causes late Monday evening, June 2, 2003, at her Germany Valley Home, Mount Union. Born Helen Louise Brownwell May 1, 1927, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Sherman and Rachel Frances (Davis) Brownwell. She married Donald R. Love Dec. 13, 1947, and the young couple established their home at his family farm in Germany Valley where they reared seven children. Her husband preceded her in death Feb. 25, 1976. She was united in marriage four years later to H. Fred Bard, who survives at their home. the couple had marked their 23rd wedding anniversary May 30. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are the following children: Janice "Jenny" Lane and husband, Leslie, Huntingdon; Bonnie Blair and husband, Ronald Sr., Mount Union; Sandra Hunter and husband, James, Lititz; Mary Becky, Port Orange, Fla.; Sally Yoder and husband, Dennis, Allensville; Donald R. Love Jr. and wife, Natalie, Star Route, Huntingdon; Patricia Bard and husband, Sheldon, Erlanger, Ky.; and a stepdaughter, Annie Bowser, Newton Hamilton. There are 17 grandchildren and five step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a number of step-great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Ruth Parson and Arlene Henry, both of Lewistown, survive. She was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: Bertha Swartz; Evelyn Brownwell; Russell Brownwell; Andy Brownwell; Violet Brownwell and twin brothers, Robert and Charles, who died at birth. She accepted the Lord when she was 14 years old at the Salvation Army Sunday School. She regularly attended the Cedar Crest-Lucy Furnace Chapel, Mount Union. A 1945 graduate of Lewistown High School, she had worked at American Viscose Corp. a short time. After her marriage, she devoted her life to her family and faith. An avid gardener, she could often be found in the yard, tending the flowers. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7 at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, 61 E. Shirley St., Mount Union, with Pastor Jeff Winstead officiating. Interment will be in Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg. The Rev. David B. REAMS, 75, of 2104 Schooley Road, Harrisonville, entered into rest Monday, June 2, 2003, at Select Specialty Hospital, Camp Hill. Born June 13, 1927, in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Roy and Jesse (Hughes) Reams. He married the former Alice B. Kline June 22, 1957. Mrs. Reams survives. One daughter and one son survive: Susanne (Reams) Moore and John D. Reams, both of Harrisonville. There are six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by two sisters, Marian Reams of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Zula Dunlap of Philipsburg. He was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Altman, and two brothers, Roy Reams and Ben Reams. The Rev. Reams was a member of the McConnellsburg United Methodist Church. A minister for 50 years, he began his ministerial duties in 1950 in Clearfield County. He then served the Harrisonville Charge form 1955-1958, moving to Orbisonia, Martinsburg, Duncannon, Nescopeck and Mount Union between 1974 and 1981; McConnellsburg from 1981-1993 and returned to Harrisonville from 1993 and returned to Harrisonville from 1993-1997. He officially retired in June 1997 and then served the Robertsdale Charge from 1997-2000. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at Church with the Rev. Donald Bard officiating. Interment will be made at Asbury Methodist Cemetery, Harrisonville. Robert Ellsworth "Doc" BILGER, 87, who had been a guest at Moran's Nursing Home, Bellwood, for the past five years, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2003, following a lengthy illness. He was a former resident of Tyrone, retiring in 1970 to Lehigh Acres, Fla. Born Nov. 10, 1915, in Barree, he was the son of the late Harvey Ross and Ethel Mae (Carolus) Bilger. He married to former Helen Louise Mitchell May 29, 1935, at Frederick, Md. Mrs. Bilger predceded him in death July 17, 2000. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Samuel (Peg) Conrad, Warriors Mark, and seven grandchildren: Scott Bilger and Babette (Bilger) Combs, both of Pleasant Hills, Calif.; Brenda (Bilger) Walker, Jacksonville, Fla.; Betsy (Bilger) Sabatos, Pittsburgh; Robert M. Bilger, Hollidaysburg; Samuel J. Conrad Jr., Warriors Mark; and Jennifer (Conrad) Anderson, Bellefonte. There are ten great-grandchildren. Two daughters-in-law survive: Lynn Bilger MacKnight, Wittman, Md., and Arleen Bilger Liddick, Bellwood. He was preceded in death by three sons, Clarence H. Bilger, Robert M. Bilger and an infant who died at birth. Mr. Bilger was a member of Tyrone Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Tyrone Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the American Legion, BPOE No. 212, Tyrone Moose Lodge and the Hookies Fire Co. He graduated from Alexandria High School and later attended Juniata College. Mr. Bilger was a Tyrone police officer in the 1940's. During that time, he was one of the pioneers in getting servicemen a ride home and was an early booster for the need of a canteen in Tyrone during World War II. He served in the U.S. Army with Company C 1294th Engineer C Battalion at Camp Stewart, Ga., and was discharged in 1945. In 1970, he retired from the former Westvaco Corp. as a job analyst in the human resource department. He was an outstanding baseball pitcher in his youth, which led to his involvement with many of the youth progams in the areas, beginning in the 1950's, until he retired to Florida. In Tyrone, he was instrumental in getting youth baseball programs started in the early 1950's, being a charter officer of the Tyrone Little League, serving as president, vice president and district representative. He helped organize Tyrone Teener League baseball and was its first president. He helped organize the first Pee Wee League in Tyrone and the Pee Wee Field at 15th Street and Columbia Avenue was named in his honor. In 1970 he was recognized by the Tyrone Little League Association for his 20 years of unselfish, devoted leadership to Little League baseball and its related programs in the Tyrone area. In the 1950's and 1960's, he served a president of the Tyrone Playground Association and organized the youth parade for the Tyrone bicentennial celebration. For many years, he served on the Tyrone YMCA board of directors. He enjoyed and was proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held June 4, at the convenience of the family. Interment was made in Presbyterian Cemetery, Alexandria. Merle E. "Sam" ROSS, 46, of 606 16th St., Saxton, died unexpectedly at 2:02 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003, in the emergency room at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Jan. 31, 1957, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Ruth Carolyn (Wagner) Ross and Lee Roland, who survives in Philadelphia. He was united in marriage to the former Suzanne Brown Oct. 23, 1978, in Winchester, Va. Mrs. Ross survives at their home. He is also survived by two children: Jeremy Ross, currently serving with the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne in Afghanistan; and Stefanie Ross serving with the U.S. Air Force at Osan Air Force Base, South Korea. One brother and one sister survive: Harold "Buddy" Ross, Mount Union, and Kathy Ross, Claysburg. His stepfather, William Ross of Huntingdon, survives. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Nancy Roland. Mr. Ross was a member of the Saxton First Church of God. He was a member of the Saxton VFW. A 1975 graduate of Tussey Mountain High School, he received a BS in management information systems from Penn State University in 1996. For a number of years he worked as a coal miner. He had also been employed at Cove Shoe Factory, Martinsburg, and J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He enjoyed fishing, pitching horseshoes, car rides and surfing the Internet. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 9, at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor Jack Selcher officiating. Interment will be made in Grandview Cemetery, Saxton. Erma V. MORGAN, 67, of 10 Valimont Drive, Silverford Heights, Mount Union, died at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at her home, following an extended illness. Born July 8, 1935, in Surveyor, Clearfield County, she was the daughter of the late L. Reese and Edna K. (Glossner) Valimont. She was united in marriage to Richard K. Morgan Sept. 24, 1956, in Winchester, Va. Mr. Morgan preceded her in death March 31, 1997. Two children survive: Richard K. Morgan Jr., Dallas, Texas; and Kathleen M. Morgan, Mount Union. She is also survived by Mrs. Kurt (Anna Mary) Wenzel, Shirleysburg, who had resided in Mrs. Morgan's home for a short time. One grandson, Stefan Morgan, survives. She is survived by one brother and one sister: Dean L. Valimont and his wife, Marge, of Mount Union, and Mrs. Edwin (Grace) Westover Elder of Huntingdon. She was preceded in death by a brother, John D. Valimont, and two infant brothers. Mrs. Morgan was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mount Union, where she was also a member of the church board and The United Methodist Women Association. She was also church historian, taught Sunday School and was a member of the "Do our Best" Sunday School class. She was a board member of the Huntingdon County Habitat for Humanity, past member of the Mount Union Kiwanis and was active in the Bricktown Seniors. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and Meals on Wheels. A brownie and Girl Scout leader in Mount Union area, she was the Huntingdon County Girl Scout Registrar. In 1953, she graduated from Captain Jack High School, Mount Union, and went to work as an optometrist's assistant for Dr. Carl Daneker in Huntingdon for several years until becoming a wife and mother. She later returned to work for Drs. Robert and Artemarie Barclay in both Huntingdon and Mount Union. Mrs. Morgan, also with her husband, was co-owner of Morgan's Excavating for over 25 years. She retired in 1999. She was an avid sports enthusiast, following her children's and grandson's many activities. She loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed traveling. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at First United Methodist Church, 15 W. Shirley St., Mount Union, with the Rev. Robert Davidson officiating. Interment will be made in Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg. Paul T. YODER, 82, of 255 Hartzler Drive, Belleville, died at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at his home. Born July 29, 1920, at Mill Creek, he was a son of the late I. Newton and Edith (Sommers) Yoder. He and his wife, Cora M. Yoder, were married Sept. 2, 1944. Mrs. Yoder survives at their home. He is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Gerald (Sue) Peachey, Mrs. Ray (Jane) Yoder and Mrs. Wayne (Sandra) Yoder, all of Belleville. There are nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Two brothers and one sister survive: Roy N. Yoder, Belleville; Mrs. Earl (Rena) Auker, Oakland Mills; and Robert Yoder, Grand Junction, Colo. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Yoder and James E. "Jim" Yoder. Mr. Yoder was a member of Allensvillle Mennonite Church and the Golden Age Sunday School Class. He was a graduate of Allensville High School. He was director of the Big Valley Men's Chorus for 30 years. For 23 years, he did mission work at Otelia Mennonite Church and was involved in various other church activities. He was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for nine years. After retiring from dairy farming in 1973, he worked 20 years for Allensville Planing Mill, retiring in 1992. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at the Allensville Mennonite Church, Allensville, with the Revs. Eli Beachy, Gerald Peachey and Paul Bender officiating. Interment will be made in Allensville Mennonite Cemetery. Mary I. ALEXANDER, 100, formerly of 44 Pine St., Mount Union, passed away at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at West Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center, Camp Hill. Born Oct. 3, 1902 in Saluda, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Caesar and Melinda (Abbney) Chatman. She was united in marriage to Thomas Alexander Dec. 25, 1919. Mr. Alexander preceded her in death Dec. 10, 1966. She is survived by ten children: Anna Mae Harris, Steubenville, Ohio; Thomasina Loner, Mount Union; Ella Louise Black, Miami, Fla.; Eugene Alexander, Steubenville, Ohio; Viola Waid, Harrisburg; Joyce Johnson, South Hampton, N.Y.; Marian Boyer, Coatsville; Christine Jenkins and Winnie Williams, both of Harrisburg; and Kathleen Matthews, Palm Coast, Fla.; and an adopted son, Richard Alexander, Harrisburg. She was very proud of her surviving 45 grandchildren, 95 great-grandchildren and 60 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Eleanor Miller and Mary Alexander; a son, Caesar Alexander; and an adopted son, Robert Alexander. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers. Mrs. Alexander was a member of the Tabernacle Church of God in Christ Church, Mount Union, where she was "Church Mother" and had various offices within the church throughout her life. She was a homemaker. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 6, at the Bethel AME Church, Mount Union, with Bishop Benjamin Ravenel officiating. Interment will be made in Mount Union Cemetery. Ronald Arthur BEVERLIN, DMin, of HCR 60, Orbisonia, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at his home following a lengthy illness. Born in Cumberland, Md., he was a son of the late Lawrence Arthur and Eloise Belle (Kidwell) Beverlin. He is lovingly missed by his wife, Fay Joan (Sadowsky) Beverlin, who survives at their home. He is survived by the following children: Jesus M. and Marguerite Lynn (Beverlin) Contreras, C. Wayne and Madonna Lea (Beverlin) Wolfe, Charles T. and Cynthia Brown and Wayne D. and Sue Leatherman. There are five grandchildren: Aaron E. Biddle, Tara L. Biddle, Abigail F. Biddle, Nathan W. Leatherman and Lauren S. Leatherman. He is survived by a brother-in-law, Edward W. and Clara (Graham) Sadowsky; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by very close family friends, Dale Grossnickle, Robert and Karen Hiltner and Dale and Sue Morgan. A son, Lawrence Arthur "Larry" Beverlin, preceded him in death. Dr. Beverlin was a member of the Valley Point Church of the Brethren, Orbisonia. As a minister, he served congregations in Tennessee, Maryland and Pennsylvania. He attended many continuing educational programs and seminars throughout his ministry in order to serve the people within each congregation he left. He served on various committees in the respective districts in which he was in and was an undersheperd to new ministers in the Mid-Atlantic District. A memorial celebration will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the Rockhill Church of the Brethren, Rockhill Furnace, with Robert Detwiler, pastor of the Valley Point Church of the Brethren, and Glenn Mitchell officiating. Florence M. GARVER, 85, formerly of McVeytown, and Roth Rock School Apartments, McVeytown, died at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown. Born July 21, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Blanche (Querry) Rowles and the step-daughter of the late Elroy Garver. She was married to H. Russell Garver April 3, 1940. Mr. Garver preceded her in death in August 2000. She is survived by one son, Carl R. Garver and his wife, Pamela, of Palmyra. She also reared a foster daughter, Nancy Bishop of Hummelstown, and several other foster children. Two grandsons, Robert Garver and Jonathan Garver, both of Palmyra, survive. She is also survived by a step-brother, Glenn Garver of Bellwood. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter. Mrs. Garver was a member of the Atkinson Mills United Methodist Church, where she was in the women's Sunday School class, and former member of the McVeytown United Methodist Church where she had served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Country Crossroads Senior Citizens Center, Atkinsons Mills. She attended Mount Union Area Schools. A homemaker and housewife, she enjoyed rural farm life, gardening and reading. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 9, at Harshbarger Funeral Home. McVeytown, with the Rev. Jeanette Rapp officiating. Interment will be made in Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown. Tressa E. Hoffman WATKINS, 84, of Orbisonia, died at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia. Born Sept 1, 1918, in Rockhill Furnace, she was a daughter of the late A. Blaine and Verna (Pyles) Rogers. She was first married to Jesse J. Hoffman May 23, 1936, in Orbisonia. Mr. Hoffman preceded her in death April 9, 1965. She then married Newton R. Watkins Jan. 16, 1982. Mr. Watkins preceded her in death Jan. 10, 1988. Two daughters survive: Edna M. James, Orbisonia, and Audrey C. Kelleher, Washington, N.J. There are five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One sister, Olive Fuhr, Three Springs, survives. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister: Wilbur Rogers, Howard Rogers and Ruth Anderson. Mrs. Watkins had attended the Rockhill Church of the Brethren, Rockhill Furnace. She was a homemaker. She had also been employed for 11 years at the Shirley Home of the Aged, Shirleysburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7,at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev. David Ort officiating. Interment will be made in Orbisonia Cemetery. Betty J. GOTTSHALL, 78, of 259 Fielders Road, McVeytown, formerly of Altoona, died Thursday Morning, June 5, 2003, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital Huntingdon. Born Dec. 26, 1924, in Altoona, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Margaret F. (Bowmen) Gottshall. She is survived by three brothers and three sisters: Ralph E. Gottshall, C. Grant Gottshall, Miles B. Gottshall, Shirley Shaffer and Ruth Mowery, all of Altoona, and Nancy Rupert of Flaglers Beach, Fla.; many nieces and nephews; many grandnieces and grandnephews; and a special friend, Miriam Niemond of McVeytown. She was preceded in death by two brothers: John A. Gottshall and Paul E. Gottshall; and two nieces: Rebecca Nolan and Betty Ann Ayers. Miss Gottshall was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mount Union, where she was teacher of the "Do Your Best" Sunday School class and and formerly served as a trustee. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association and the Lock Haven University Alumni Association. A 1942 graduate of Altoona High School, she graduated in 1949 from Lock Haven University with a bachelor of science degree in education. She received a master's degree and a principal's certificate from Penn State University. She retired as a principal from Penn Lincoln Elementary School in 1981. Prior to that, she had taught in the Williamsburg and Claysburg schools, at Washington Elementary School and Wright Elementary School She was an avid reader and sports fan and enjoyed camping and flower gardening. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at the Gilden Barton Funeral Home, Altoona, with the Rev. Robert Davidson officiating. A funeral service will also be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at the First United Methodist Church, Mount Union, with the Rev. Robert Davidson officiating. Interment will be made in Blair Memorial Park, Antis Twp., Bellwood. Bruce D. WALTER, 77, a resident of Lake Wales, Fla., passed away Thursday, June 5, 2003, at the Orlando Regional Medical Center, Orlando Fla. Born June 6, 1925, in Paxtonville, he was a son of Martin L. and Wilma Walter. His mother survives in Middleburg. His father is deceased. He is survived by his wife, Patricia L. Walter of Lake Wales. He is also survived by four daughters: Pam Rasick, McVeytown; Twila Byers, Loveland, Colo.; Chris Rhoades, Liverpool; and Jo Anna Cutchall, Mapleton; one son, Marty B. Walter, Mount Union; and two daughters and one son from a previous marriage. Two brothers survive: Delbert Walter of Middleburg and Glenn Walter of Penns Creek. There are ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Walter. Mr. Walter was of the Methodist faith. He was a previous member of Huntingdon Racing Association and the Newton-Wayne Lions Club. He was a service manager for the former Rog Garner Chevrolet, Mount Union, for 25 years prior to moving to Lake Wales in 1982 from Mount Union, He worked at Cypress Gardens from 1983 until its closing in 2003. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan. He also enjoyed going to races and Wal-Mart and loved spending time with his family. "Pappy Jack" WHISONANT, 71, of 711 Church St., Huntingdon, died at 11:25 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born March 30, 1932, in Charleston, S.C., he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth Whisonant. He married the former Mildred Barry. Mrs. Whisonant survives at their home. Five children survive: Diana Bright, Huntingdon; John Whisonant, Ohio; Jackie Spell and Debbie Dull, both of Huntingdon; and Dennis Whisonant, Mount Union. There are 26 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. One sister, Dorothy "Dot" Minardi, survives in Charleston, S.C. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Audrey Rose Whisonant. Mr. Whisonant was of the Protestant Faith. During the Korean Conflict, he was a private with the 43 Squadron of the 43rd AB Group of the U.S. Air Force. Prior to his retirement he was a maintenance man at Lacey Park in Bucks County. He was an avid fisherman. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, at the Robert E. Peter Paul POLECK, 84, of 10-12 Ash St., Wood, died at 11:31 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003, at his home. Born July 9, 1918, in Madera, he was a son of the late Harry and Mary (Berosh) Poleck. He was united in marriage to the former Verna Pawuk March 3, 1951, in Wood. Mrs. Poleck survives at their home. One son and one daughter survive: David D. Poleck, and his wife, Cathy, Glendale, Md.; and Mrs. Gregory (Sharon) Miller of Saxton. He is survived by three grandchildren: Christina (Miller) Mykut of Virginia, and Jason G. Miler and Patrick N. Miller, both of Saxton; and one great-grandchild, Matthew G. Mykut of Virginia. Three sisters and one brother survive: Mrs. Nick (Madeline Mervosh, Delmont; Wasco Poleck, Karthaus; Nancy Bolinger, Homestead, Fla.; and Olive Bolinger, Carlisle. He is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Mark Brumbaugh of Saxton and Matthew Brumbaugh of Broad Top City; and three step-great-grandchildren, Maddison Brumbaugh, Saxton; and Victoria Brumbaugh and Jacob Brumbaugh, both of Broad Top City. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. Mr. Poleck was a member of St. Michael's Orthodox Church, Wood. He was a member of UMWA Local No. 1968. He held lifetime memberships in the Saxton VFW No. 4129, Broad Top American Legion Post No. 126, Robertsdale-Wood and Broad Top Fire Company and the Greater Broad Top Sportsmen's Association. He was also a member of The Citizens Community Association of Wood. A U.S. Army private during World War II, he received the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with Two Bronze stars, American Service, World War II Victory and Good Conduct medals. He was a coal miner with Rockhill Coal Company. He had also worked as a heavy construction carpenter. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Clair COLBERT, 93, of HCR 1, Huntingdon, died at 3:05 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2003, in Union Twp. at the home of his nephew, Lee Miller, and his wife, Rita Miller, where he had resided for the past two and one-half years. Born April 26, 1910, in Altoona, he was the son of the late David Franklin and Mildred (Saylor) Colbert. He was united in marriage to Evadene Stever June 12, 1935. His wife preceded him in death Nov. 20, 1987. Mr. Colbert is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Reeder and Ruth Reigh, and three brothers, Paul Colbert, Dwight Colbert and David Colbert. Mr. Colbert was a member of the Calvin United Methodist Church since 1921. He was a member of the Promise Keepers Fellowship, the Charles Colson Prison Fellowship, the Huntingdon County Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship and the Huntingdon County Camps of Gideons International. He was also a member of the task force committee for the Justice Fellowship Prison Ministry. Mr. Colbert was a certified lay speaker with the United Methodist Church. He worked in the Lay Witness Mission Ministry in seven states and participated in mission trips to Haiti and South America. In 1994 he received the Harry Denman Award for Evangelism, presented by the Central Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Huntingdon County Arts Council. Mr. Colbert worked as a farmer and as a small building contractor. LEE, 58, of R.R. 4, Box 104, Huntingdon, died at 3 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2003, at her Walker Twp. residence, where she had lived for the past 21 years. She had battled cancer for over four years. Born Dec. 2, 1944, in Seoul, Korea, she was the daughter of Byung Ha and Mah Nyuh Kim, both deceased. She was united in marriage to Dr. Kevin K. Lee March 14, 1968, in Seoul, Korea. She is survived by her husband at home; two sons and two daughters-in-law: Paul H. Lee and his wife, Hyangsook W., of New York City, and Sam H. Lee and his wife, Jaemin, of Seoul, Korea; and by one granddaughter, Minjee Lee of New York City. Three sisters and two brothers survive. Mrs. Lee was a member of Korean Church of State College, State College. She was a member of the Huntingdon Country Club; Scotch Valley Country Club, Hollidaysburg; and the Blair Racquet & Fitness Center, Altoona. She graduated from Sookmyung University College of music, Seoul, Korea, with a major in piano. Mrs. Lee was primarily a homemaker. She enjoyed golfing, tennis and playing piano. She won the women's golf championship 15 times at the Huntingdon and Scotch Valley country clubs. Hazel C. MCCOY, 87, formerly of Huntingdon, died at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Perry Village in New Bloomfield where she had resided for the past three and one half years. Born Nov. 25, 1915, in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late William M. and Estella (Dell) Corbin. She was united in marriage to Richard H. McCoy Aug. 25, 1936, in Newton Hamilton by the Rev. O.B. Paulson. Mr. McCoy survives at Perry Village. She is survived by a son, R. Steven McCoy of Mechanicsburg; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A brother, Clinton D. Corbin of Cold Springs Road, Huntingdon, survives. She was preceded in death by a brother, George Corbin, and a sister, Betty C. Kenyon. Mrs. McCoy was a member of 15th Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. She graduated from Huntingdon High School in the Class of 1933. She was primarily a homemaker. Ora (Lane) STEVENSON, 88, of Cooks, died at 6:25 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2003, at her home in Todd Twp., Huntingdon County. Born June 11, 1914, in Cooks, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Martha (Hooper) Lane. She was united in marriage to Robert L. Stevenson June 25, 1940. Mr. Stevenson preceded her in death May 30, 1974. She is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Kay and Robert Rourke of Massillon, Ohio; Joyce and Larry Grissinger of Three Springs; and Gayle and David Cessna of Cooks; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Cloyd Lane and Frank Lane, and four sisters, Grace Farleman, Zurie Martin, Erma Cowan and an infant. Mrs. Stevenson was a member of Cooks United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Huntingdon County Republican Committee and a former member of the Robertsdale, Wood and Broad Top Fire Company Auxiliary. She was a 1932 graduate of Robertsdale High School. Mrs. Stevenson owned and operated Lane's Service Station in Cooks for many years. She loved her dog, Blackie. Frances H. GREENLEAF, 94, formerly of Huntingdon, died June 9, 2003 at the Middletown Home, Middletown, Dauphin County. She was born May 3, 1909, in Huntingdon, the daughter of Thomas J. and Eleanor (Swope) Hutchinson. She was united in marriage to Donald F. "Skeet" Greenleaf, who preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters; Barbara Ulbrich of Morristown, N.J.; and Nancy L. Pagano of Highspire; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Mrs. Greenleaf, a long-time resident of Huntingdon, was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Huntingdon. She was instrumental in establishing the Meals of Wheels program in Huntingdon and was a member of the American Association of University Women and Daughters of the American Revolution. She retired as a first grade teacher at William Smith Elementary School after 36 years of service. Ruth Hallman TURSKI, 72, of Hoy Towers, Swatara Twp., returned to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Monday, June 9, 2003 in her home. Born in Neff's Mills, she was the daughter of Clyde L. and Jane (Parsons) Hallman. She is survived by a son, John T. Turski III, DO, of Ceres, Va., and a daughter, Kathy R. Turski of Elizabethtown. Also surviving are two sisters, Martha Croyle of Boalsburg and Nancy Greene of Hockessin, Del. Fifteen grandchildren also survive. Ms. Turski was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church of Colonial Park. She was a graduate of a Harrisburg Area Community College and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Jane Elizabeth MONTGOMERY, 88, of Shade Gap, died Monday, June 9, 2003, in Bethlehem. Born May 6, 1915, in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of Loy Grafton and Alice Arment Flood. Mrs. Montogomery was the wife of Samuel Boyd Montgomery for 67 years. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Carol (Montgomery) Donaldson of Bethlehem; a son, Richard B.Montgomery of Boston, Mass; two grandsons; two granddaughters, and two great-grandsons. Two brothers, Charles A. Flood of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Henry A. Flood of Chambersburg, survive. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Gloria Dawn. Mrs. Montgomery was a member of Shade Gap Presbyterian Church, where she taught an adult Bible Class and served as an elder. She was the first of two women to serve communion at a Synod gathering. She was active in community affairs and operated the Huntingdon County Bookmobile on its trips to Shade Gap. Interment will be at the Convenience of the family. Geraldine G. Gibboney, 79, of HCR 61, Box 477, Mill Creek, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at her home. Her death was unexpected. Born Dec. 23, 1923, in Mill Creek, she was the daughter of the late George and Cleo (Bumgardner) Gibboney and reared by her maternal grandparents, Newton and Frances Bumgardner. Her partner for over 40 years, John S. Kauffman, preceded her in death March 25, 1997. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William (Martha) Hart of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren, Cary R. Bowman, Huntingdon and William "Will" Hart II and Brandi Jo Hart, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Robin Rae Bowman and Donnelle Renee Wilson. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by a brother, Francis J. Faust, and a sister, Betty Culbertson. Ms. Gibboney was a member of Mill Creek United Methodist Church. She worked at the Susquehanna Silk Mill in Huntingdon, Belleville Pajama Factory and was employed for over 25 years at Robin Footwear in Mount Union. Most recently, she worked for the Area Agency on Aging, Huntingdon. June Elaine (Campbell) WALKER, 72, of 674 Hamilton Ave., Chambersburg, died Thursday Afternoon, June 12, 2003, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg. Born Feb. 18, 1931, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Theodore R. and Ethel B. (James) Campbell. She was united in marriage to James E. Walker July 13, 1949. Mr. Walker survives. She is survived by one daughter and two sons: Mrs. Eugene (Elaine) Kline Jr., Smithsburg, Md.; Gregory Walker (husband of Grace), Harrisburg; and Duane Walker (husband of Carmen), Mechanicsburg; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother also survive: Doris Black of Huntingdon, Hazel Hershey of Saltillo, and Glenn Campbell of Three Springs. An infant brother preceded her in death. Mrs. Walker was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Chambersburg, where she was active in a number of ministries. She graduated in 1949 from Robertsdale High School. Retired in 1986, she operated the snack bar at the former Letterkenny Army Depot Post Restaurant, Chambersburg. A volunteer at Chambersburg Hospital, she also volunteered with CBM Ministries Bible Released Time Program. Services were held Monday in Chambersburg with interment in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Dustin L. "Bookie" BOOKWALTER, 19, of R.R. 2, Box 526, Allenport, Mount Union, died Thursday morning, June 12, 2003, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Shirley Twp., Huntingdon County. He was born Feb. 27, 1984, in Waynesboro, Franklin County, the son of Michael L. and LeAnn (Wiser) Bookwalter, with whom he resided. He is survived by his parents; his fiancee, August Christine Locke; and his son, Jayden Matthew Locke Bookwalter, Grandparents Ronald and Miriam Wiser, Mount Union: and Margaret Bookwalter, Mersersburg; and great-grandmother, Mary Wiser of Huntingdon Manor, survive. He is also survived by a sister, Anna Marie Bookwalter, Mount Union, and a half-brother, Robert Allan Winters, Boonesboro, Md. Dustin graduated from Mount Union Area High School in the Class of 2002. He had been employed at Food Lion in Greencastle for the past three months. He had previously worked for McDonald's in Mount Union for about two years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of Mabel's Hunting Camp. He also enjoyed baseball, having played in the Minor, Little and Teener League programs in Mount Union. Main St., Middletown, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at the Frey Village Nursing Center, Middletown. She was the daughter Monta M. Kready of Middletown, and the late Clyde V. Clark. She was united in marriage to Larry W. Johnson, a former Broad Top area resident. He preceded her in death. She is survived by her mother; a son, Jeremy W. Johnson of Elizabethtown; a daughter, Jennifer A. McNamara of Middletownn; and three grandchildren, Justin McNamara of Middletown and Gwenyth and Jessica Johnson of Elizabethtown. Two sisters, Janet L. Foltz of Smethport and Jean Weaverling of Cottonwood, Ala., survive. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Valley Baptist Church, Middletown. She worked as a clerk at the former McCory's Store in Middletown. She enjoyed crafts, camping, flea markets and antiques. Interment will be made in Middletown cemetery. Shirley Joanne (Hamilton) HACK, 67, of 2006 Penn St., Huntingdon, died at 10 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2003, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona. Born June 15, 1935, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Abraham Melvin and Mazie (Edwards) Hamilton. She was united in marriage to Orvil L. Hack July 20, 1954, in the Methodist Church, Limestone, N.Y. Mr. Hack preceded her in death Dec. 14, 2001. She is survived by two sons: Gary L. Hack and his wife, Deborah, of Huntingdon; and Curtis M. Hack and his wife, Donna, of Petersburg. There are six grandchildren: Sherri Hack, Altoona; Greg Hack and Chad Hack, both of Huntingdon and Ashley Hack, Nathan Hack and Matthew Hack, all of Petersburg. One great-grandson, Payton Hack, also survives. She is survived by one sister and two brothers: Mrs. Marshall (Helen) Chapman, Rockhill Furnace; Marshall L. Hamilton, Smithfield Twp.; and James W. Hamilton, Cornpropst Mills. She is also survived by an aunt, Agnes Peightal of Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia. She was preceded in death by one son, Chris O'Brien Hack and two sisters, Wanda Jefferies and Dorothy Brenneman. Mrs. Hack was a member of First United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. She graduated from Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1954. She retired from Elco Corporation in 1994, following many years of service. A lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, she grew up in Smithfield Twp. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandson were most important to her. She loved people and enjoyed going out to eat and visiting with friends. She made friends wherever she went. She also enjoyed traveling and especially going to the ocean. SGM Vernon Ralph FLECK (Ret), 71, of Molly Pitcher Highway, Shippensburg, died at 6:28 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2003, at his Southampton Twp., Franklin County home. Born Dec. 14, 1931, in Orbisonia, he was a son of the late G. Ralph and Jaynell (Lane) Fleck. He was married to the former Shelby Daughenbaugh April 9, 1955. Mrs. Fleck survives at their home. He is survived by two sons: Douglas Ralph Fleck and wife, Linda, Carlisle, and Curtis Alan Fleck and wife, Sharon, Camp Hill. There are two grandsons: Andrew Ralph Fleck, serving with the U.S. Army at Fort Wainright, Alaska, and Allen Lee Fleck, serving with the U.S. Army in Baghdad, Iraq. Three sisters and one brother survive: Mrs. James (Wilda) Drake, HCR 71, Orbisonia; Mrs. Amos (Dolores) Sands, Elizabethtown; Dean Fleck, Three Springs; and Mrs. Thomas (Darlene) Powell, Millington, Tenn. Mr. Fleck was of the Protestant faith. He was a life member of VFW Post No. 6168, Shippensburg; Madden-Wennick Post No. 518, American Legion, Orbisonia; Minniqua Social Club, Shippensburg; AMVETS, Chambersburg; and the National Rifle Association. He was a member of Hub City Club, Shippensburg; Walnut Bottom Rod and Gun Club; Cumberland Valley Lodge No. 315, Free and Accepted Masons, Shippensburg; Harrisburg Consistory; Shippensburg Scottich Rite Club; and 40 and 8, Chambersburg. He graduated from Saltillo High School in 1949 and attended Juniata College, Huntingdon. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served with the U.S. Army from 1953 - 1955. He retired as a sergeant major in 1992 from the U.S. Army Reserves. He also retired as director of 1036 USAR School, 99th ARCOM. He was a sales representative, then assistant manager for Baltimore Life Insurance Co. and had also been a sales representative for Educators Mutual Insurance Co. COVERT, 66, of Box 126 Mill Creek, died unexpectedly at 4:22 p.m.Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona. born Feb. 1, 1937, in Mapleton, he was a son of the late Presley H. and Alberta F. (Hockenberry) Covert. He was united in marriage to the former Daisy Ellenberger June 5, 1960, in the Mill Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Covert survives at their home along with a grandson being reared in the home, Tyler Wayne Covert. Two sisters survive: Grace Claypool of Tuscumbra, Ala., and Darlene Harker of Hill Valley. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Elaine Crownover, April 27, 1993, and the following brothers and sisters: Margaret Rohrer, Edna Cox, Ralph Covert and Dean Covert. Mr. Covert was a member of the Allensville Presbyterian Church where he served as a church trustee, served on the building committee, was a youth volunteer and participated in many of the church mission trips. He was a former member of the Allensville Lions Club. Following graduation from Captain Jack High School in 1956, he went to work at Walt Wible's Grocery Store, Mapleton. From there he went to J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, for a number of years until he joined the custodial staff of the Huntingdon Area School District from where he retired in 1999 following 38 years service. During this time, he also drove a school bus for Updegrove for 25 years. He loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed doing woodcrafts. Interment will be made in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon. Earl William MCCONAUGHEY, 62, of F- 5 Federal Drive, Mount Union, died unexpectedly Monday, June 16, 2003, at his home. Born March 8, 1941, in Orbisonia, he was a son of the late Walter D. Sr. and Olive (Varner) McConaughey. His former wife survives: Judy M. (Snyder) Struble, Morrisdale. He is survived by three sons and one daughter: Kevin W. McConaughey, Mount Union; Michael A. McConaughey, Mount Union; Timothy W. McConaughey, Saltillo; and Kimberly A. (McConaughey) Miron, Morrisdale. There are seven grandchildren; Danielle M. McConaughey, Joshua K, McConaughey, Nicholas H. McConaughey, Michael A. McConaughey Jr., Amanda L. Kipphan, Dayton T. McConaughey and Kayla E. Miron. MATTHEWS, 86, of 1222 Little Greenbriar Road, McVeytown, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Shirley Hoover, Newton Hamilton. She had been in failing health. Born Dec. 20, 1916, in Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Ida Mae (McMullen) Boone. She was united in marriage to Benjamin I. Matthews July 4, 1933. Mr. Matthews preceded her in death Oct. 30, 1990. She is survived by the following children: Charles B. Matthews, McVeytown; Robert L. Matthews, Palmyra; Shirley Hoover, Newton Hamilton;James R. Matthews, Lewistown; Donna Peck, Mary Schueck and Ronald E. Matthews, all of McVeytown; Connie J. Matthews, Dumfries, Va.; and Kenneth Z. Matthews, McVeytown. There are 37 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. One brother, Melvin Boone of East Waterford, survives. She was preceded in death by two sons, Melvin Matthews and John Edward Matthews, and six brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Matthews was of the Protestant faith. She was a member of the the Country Crossroads Senior Citizens, Atkinsons Mills, where she enjoyed quilting. She retired from the former Creitz Bologna Factory, Mount Union, after many years service. Myrtle (Leamer) RHODES, 89, of 160 Aspen Lane, Apt. 303, Westminster Woods, Huntingdon, formerly of Alexandria, died at 8:30 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2003, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born in Hollidaysburg June 17, 1913, she was a daughter of the late S. Frank and Emma J. (Caldwell) Leamer. Her first marriage was to Earl T. Wileman of Alexandria who preceded her in death. She was then married to John J. Rhodes March 27, 1952, in the parsonage of the Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, Alexandria, with the Rev. John Winter officiating. Mr. Rhodes, formerly of Alexandria, survives at their Westminster Woods residence. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters: Frank Leamer, Edward Leamer, Helen (Leamer) Ray. Mrs. Rhodes was a member of Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, Alexandria. She graduated from Alexandria High School with the Class of 1934. She was primarily a homemaker and assisted her husband, John, in the operation of an appliance and hardware store in Alexandria. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling, spending many winters in Florida. KUFFNER, 80, of 306 Henrietta Mountain Road, Saxton, died at 11:08 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring. Born Oct. 22, 1922, in the former village of Aitch, he was a son of the late Anthony and Katrina (Mallner) Kuffner. He was united in marriage to the former Jeannine Hughes Oct. 20, 1969, at Immaculate Conception Church, Dudley, with the Rev. Fr. Joseph Bender officiating. Mrs. Kuffner survives. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers: Anna Kubiak, Stephanie Kuffner, Mary Pulich, Sophia Bolterstien, Anthony Kuffner Jr., Nicholas Kuffner, John Kuffner and Victor Kuffner. Mr. Kuffner was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Dudley. He was a graduate of Saxton-Liberty High School. He retired in 1984, after 34 years service, from the former Owens Corning Fiberglas, Huntingdon, where he had been a re-conditioner. Dorothy Arlene DESHONG, 72, of Double D Lane, Harrisonville, died at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg. Born Jan. 14, 1931, in McConnellsburg, she was a daughter of the late John A. and Margaret C. (Long) Steach. She was married to Denver N. DeShong Feb. 7, 1948. Mr. DeShong preceded her in death Dec. 21, 2001. She is survived by two sons and four daughters: Nile DeShong, Pleasant Hall; Linda Benson, Harrisonville; Judy Robinson, McConnellsburg; Tony DeShong and Jill Stains, both of Harrisonville; and Jackie Berkstresser, Slippery Rock. Interment will be made in the Sideling Hill Christian Church Cemetery, Needmore. James "Jimmy" DICOSIMO, 73, of 21 N. Division St., Mount Union, died at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2003, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He had been in failing health for the past two years. Born Feb. 17, 1930, in Mount Union, he was a son of the late Angelo and Antoinette (Corda) DiCosimo. He was united in marriage to the former Arlene Hollibaugh July 8, 1957, in Winchester, Va. Mrs. DiCosimo survives at their home. Two children survive: Mrs. James (JoAnn) Ivory, Ashville; and Angela DiCosimo, Rockhill Furnace. There are six grandchildren: Arlene and Victoria Ivory and Christopher, Steven, Sarah and Nicholas Leturgey. One sister and one brother survive: Mrs. Lewis (Marguerite) Bellucci Sr., Mount Union; and Joseph A. DiCosimo, Sugarland, Texas. Mr. DiCosimo was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic church, Mount Union, where he had been the current chairman of the finance council. He was a member of Knights of Columbus St. Catherine of Sienna Council No. 6106, Mount Union, with which he was a Past Grand Knight and trustee and a 4th degree Knight of Padre Pio Assembly. He was currently serving on the board of Huntingdon County Weatherization and the Home Nursing Agency Advisory Board. He was a member of American Legion Post 5754 and the Sons of Italy Post No. 1257, both of Mount Union. He was a past member of the Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Commission, the Mount Union Lions Club, the Huntingdon County Child and Adult Development Board and the Mount Union Zoning Board. After graduating with the Mount Union High School Class of 1948, he began his working career with the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. (A&P grocery Store), having worked at both the Mount Union and Huntingdon stores for a total of 23 years. He served three terms as a Huntingdon County Commissioner and retired in 1990 from the Pennsylvania State Auditor General's Office where he had served for eight years as a state field auditor. From 1951-1953, he served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged, having attained the rank of corporal. The accomplishment of which Mr. DiCosimo was most proud was his tireless involvement in getting the Mount Union Bypass, now known as the James DiCosimo Bypass. PECK, 36, of Three Springs, died at 1:40 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Integrated Health Services at Mount View, Greensburg. Born Sept. 18, 1966, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of Linda R. Varner Sprenkle of three Springs and the late Ray E. Boyd. She is survived by her mother; stepfather, David E. Sprenkle; one son, Daniel C. Boyd of Marydel, Del.; and one daughter, Kayla K. Peck of Orrstown. One brother, Kenneth E. Boyd of Shade gap; one sister, Tonya D. Fischer of North Las Vegas, Nev.; and a number of aunts and uncles, survive. She was preceded in death by a half-brother. Ms. Peck was a member of the ABATE Motorcycle Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the McConnellsburg American Legion Post. David S. Halteman officiating. Willard I. WORKMAN, 85, of 930 E. Brandon Drive, Chambersburg, died June 20, 2003, in Beverly Health Care Center, Meadville, following a lengthy illness. Born Dec. 10, 1917, in Rockhill Furnace, he was a son of the late Isaac W. and Laura (Hallibaugh) Workman. He was married to the former Sara Jane Dulebohn. Mrs. Workman preceded him in death May 25, 2001. He is survived by one son, Thomas Workman, Chambersburg; one sister, Zada Shapiro, formerly of Mount Union and now residing in Michigan; and one brother, Paul Workman, York. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Mr. Workman was reared a Methodist. He was a member of Thomas Talbolt F&AM Lodge, Boston, Mass.; and a member of the Grand Lodge No. 1733 of Massachusetts. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Public Accountants and the National Society of Public Accountants. He first joined the Citizen Military Training Corps, then the National Guard. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army before entering the U.S. Army Air Corps. During World War II, he served in Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco and participated in the invasions of Sicily and Italy and the liberation of Naples and Rome. While in the service, he earned the sharpshooters badge and was discharged with the rank of corporal. Following the war, he attended Pierce Businees college, Philadelphia. He was a self-employed accountant from 1954 until he retirement in 1997. A Masonic service, conducted by members of George Washington Lodge, No. 143 F&AM, Chambersburg, will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Robert G. Lawrence Kenneth "Hunk" FLASHER, 90, of Three Springs, died at 2:40 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2003, at Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon. Born Sept. 11, 1912, in Three Springs, he was the son of the late Samuel J. and Mae (Barron) Flasher. He was united in marriage to Viola Snyder March 16, 1935, in Hagerstown, Md. Mrs. Flasher preceded him in death March 16, 1998. He is survived by three sons and two daughters: Willard D. "Sonny" Flasher of Orbisonia; Saundra E. Miller of Cassville; Patricia A. Snyder of Mount Union; Joseph A. Flasher of Shippensburg and Samuel J. Flasher of Three Springs; 20 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Thelma Harmon of Bethel Park and Sue Horne of Cassville, survive. Mr. Flasher was preceded in death by three daughters; Viola Flasher, Kathleen Flasher and Judith Cutshall; two brothers; two sisters; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Flasher served as five chief of the Three Springs Volunteer Fire Co. from 1947 - 1980. He was a charter member of the Three Springs Lions Club, a former social member of the Madden-Wennick Post No. 518 American Legion, Rockhill Furnace, and the Blue Juniata Memorial Post No. 518 American Legion, Rockhill Furnace, and the Blue Juniata Memorial Post No. 5754 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mount Union. He retired from Hiram Wible and Sons Trucking, Three Springs, after 15 years of service. He owned and operated Hunk and Vi's Snack Bar and Garage, Three Springs. Albert Glen FELTON, 75, of R.R. 3, Box 5, Huntingdon, died June 22, 2003, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona, following an extended illness. Born Sept. 13, 1927, in Mount Etna, he was a son of the late James W. and Rose Ann (Teeters) Felton. He was united in marriage to the former Marcella M. Soulders Jan. 3, 1950, in Winchester, Va. Mrs. Felton survives at their Walker Twp. residence, their home since 1955. One son and two daughters survive: Stephen G. Felton, Huntingdon; Linda F. Kreidler, Huntingdon; and Karen F. Horst, Petersburg. There are six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters and three brothers: Martha Teeters, Huntingdon; Catherine Clinger, James Creek; James C. Felton and John Felton, both of Hesston; and Carl Felton, Huntingdon. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Becky Ann Felton; and one brother, Martin, who died in infancy. Mr. Felton was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Huntingdon. He was a member of Frank P. Hommon Post No. 24, American Legion, Huntingdon; the Family Motor Coach Association and the Penn coachman Motor Home Club. He attended Huntingdon area Public schools. During World War II, from December 1945 to September 1947, he served in the United States Army in the European Theatre of Operations with the 505th Military Police, Rainbow Division, assigned to France and Austria. He retired from L.C. Anderson & Sons in 1990 after 37 years service as job superintendent and foreman. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and was an avid carpenter and woodworker. Second Street, Hustontown, died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003, at her home. Born Feb. 27, 1909, in Waterfall, she was a daughter of the late Meade and Pearl (Cutchall) Black. She was married to Glenn Strait who preceded her in death March 13, 1990. Two daughters and one son survive: Mae Chilcote, Jane Carmack and Perry Strait, all of Hustontown. There are 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, Dorothy Clevenger of McConnellsburg. Born Sept. 27, 1924, in Petersburg, she was a daughter of the late John II and Bertha (Taylor) Oestreich. She was united in marriage to John Benjamin McMahon, Dec. 21, 1944, at the Lutheran Church parsonage, Petersburg. Mr. McMahan preceded her in death Nov. 30, 1969. She is survived by three daughters and one son: Mrs. Cloyd (Frances) Thompson; Wesley McMahon and his wife, Pam; and Judy McMahon, all of the Petersburg area; and Mrs. John (Diane) Zajicek, Deerfield, Ohio. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: John Thompson, Jeff Thompson Jackie Confer, Angie Peters, Leslie Kitchen, Brian McMahon and Benjamin Zajicek, and nine great-grandchildren. Three sisters and two brothers survive: Bonnie Eckley, Clinton, Tenn.; Jewell Dysard, Petersburg area; Shirley Lightner, Kingsport, Tenn.; and John Oestriech III and William Oestreich, both of the Petersburg area. Mrs. McMahon was of the Protestant faith. She attended the Petersburg Vocational High School After 28 years service as an inspector, she retired from Bonney Forge at the age of 65. Following her retirement, she continued to work as a part-time desk clerk at the Huntingdon County Library for eight years. A lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, she resided at her Logan Twp. home for the past 55 years. She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, canning and doing for others. Her work in this world of family and friends has been finished. She has moved on to heaven to be with her beloved husband, John. Born April 22, 1920, in Orbisonia, he was a son of the late Charles and Floe (Bair) Doyle. He was united in marriage to the former Maxine Ford March 3, 1945, at the Church of God parsonage in Robertsdale. Mrs. Doyle preceded him in death Feb. 14, 1996. Two children survive: Donna Neuder, Dudley; and Rose Hammond, Everett. There are three grandchildren: Penni Snyder, Millersburg; Scott Hammond, Clearville; and Melinda Horne, Bedford. There are six great-grandchildren: Paige, Maghan and Neal Hammond, Clearville; Kaitlyn and Kiley Horne, Bedford; and Mala Snyder, Millersburg. One sister survives, Beverly McElrath, Orbisonia. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosalie Miller and May Shingler, and two brothers, Bernard and Wendall Doyle. Mr. Doyle was a member of the Robertsdale Church of God, Robertsdale. He most recently attended Grace Baptist Church, Newburg. He worked as a custodian for Tussey Mountain school District for 10 years. He had also worked at the former Claudia Footwear, Wood; and at the former N.L. McClain Store, Robertsdale, as a truck driver. During his life he enjoyed gardening. "Peg" GILLAM, 86, formerly of Allenport, Mount Union, and for the past three years, a resident of Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon, died on June 24, 2003, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. She had been in failing health. Born Oct. 9, 1916, in Montgomery Twp., Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Emma (Hopple) Baer. She was united in marriage to William G. Gillam Sept. 8, 1940, in Hagerstown, Md., by the Rev. Walter J. Dice. Mr. Gillam preceded her in death Sept. 21, 1966. She is survived by three sons and one daughter: Barry L. Gillam and wife, Doris, Mapleton; William F. Gillam and wife, Rebecca, Neelyton; Daniel D. Gillam, Cresson; and Janet L. Gillam, Mount Union. There are five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Donald Baer, Mount Union. Greif Brothers Manufacturing Co., Mount Union, until it closed in 1974. She then was a cafeteria worker, under the Green Thumb Program, in the Mount Union Area School District. Following that, she worked for several years for the Huntingdon County Rehabilitation and Developmental Workshop. She enjoyed crafts. Born Oct. 15, 1930, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Wilson and Caroline (Geyer) Krouse. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis L. (Ritchey) Krouse; one son, Brian L. Krouse and his wife, Lori, of Marysville, and one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Lori Ann) Singer, Port Charlotte, Fla. There are 3 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters survive: Irvin Krouse, Mount Union; Eddie Krouse, Little Rock, Ark.; Richard Krouse, Highspire; Rita Burtner, Carlisle; and Jolene Coffman, Fort Myers, Fla. Mr. Krouse was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Harrisburg. He was a member of American Legion Post 109, Mechanicsburg; the Standing Stone VFW Post No. 1754, Huntingdon; and Harrisburg Hunters and Anglers. A 1948 graduate of Huntingdon High School, he as a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot and had worked for Keystone Auto Auction. Ronald Parks officiating. Dawn J. (Zdrosky) BEASTON, 46, of 10 East St., Robertsdale, died on June 24, 2003, at her home, following an extended illness. Born Oct. 28, 1956, in Buffalo, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Michael and Vera (Taylor) Zdrosky. She was united in marriage to Charles William Beaston April 8, 1989, in the Beavertown Church of God, Todd. Mr. Beaston survives. She is also survived by six children: Tyrel Beaston, at home; Tracey Kuhns and Tiffany Kuhns, both of Robertsdale; Jason Beaston, Brad Beaston and Travis Beaston, all of Lewistown. There are three grandchildren: Kelsie Beaston, Lucas Gallagher and David Claycomb. One brother and three sisters survive: Michael Zdrosky, Robertsdale; Shirley Runk, Cassville; Elaine Daugherty, Claysburg; and Jody Kline, Saxton. Mrs. Beaston was a member of the Raystown Brethren Church, Saxton. Primarily a homemaker, she worked for a number of years at the Dollar General Store, Saxton. She enjoyed singing gospel music. APPLEBY, 33, of 520 Lake Meade Drive, East Berlin, died June 24, 2003, as a result of a motorcycle and truck accident of Route 94, north of Route 234, Adams County. Born June 13, 1970, in Camp Hill, he was the son of Neely E. Appleby of Dillsburg and Susan M. (Moore) Appleby of Mechanicsburg. He is also survived by his sister, Amanda M. Ifkovits, Wellsburg; and his maternal grandmother, Marie Moore of Mechanicsburg. Mr. Appleby was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Dillsburg. A 1988 graduate of Northern High School, Dillsburg, he received a computer science degree from Harrisburg Area Community College. STEEL, 85, formerly of Mapleton, died June 25, 2003, at Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon. Born May 13, 1918, in Union Twp., Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Elsie (Romaine) Arnold. She was married to George A. Steel Dec. 8, 1937. Mr. Steel preceded her in death May 1, 1967. She is survived by eight children: Sherwood "Sam" Steel and James Steel, both of Chambersburg; Mearl Steel, David Steel and Ellen Wagner, all of Mapleton; Ulaine Wilson, Mill Creek; Tammy McClain, Star Route, Huntingdon; and William Arnold, California. There are 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons: Dennis J. Steel and George W. Steel Sr.; three brothers: Harry Arnold, Paul Arnold and Charles Arnold; and two sisters: Leah Rhodenizer and Ada Bickle. Mrs. Steel was of the Protestant faith. She was a homemaker. Edith B. Welch. 88, of 21 E. Shirley St., Mount Union, died June 26, 2003, at the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, following a brief illness. Born June 30, 1914, in Defiance, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Margaret (McCabe) Black. She was united in marriage to Allen C. Welch, June 15, 1939, at St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union. Her husband survives along with their children: Suzanne Boyer and Jeanette Bumbaugh, both of Mount Union; Maggie Stiffler, Rockhill Furnace; Allen C. Welch Jr., Harrisburg; and Mary Ann Compton, Boring, Ore. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Woodrow Black and Andrew Black, and one sister, Helen Staley, all of whom had resided in Defiance. Mrs. Welch was a member of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union. She graduated from Broad Top Twp. High School with the Class of 1932. For a number of years, she managed the former Welch's Flower Shop, Mount Union. She very much enjoyed her family and grandchildren. Committal will be made at St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery, Shirleysburg. Mona Lou TREECE, 69, of 11741 Raystown Road, James Creek, died June 26, 2003, at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring. Born Nov. 21, 1933, in Roaring Spring. She was a daughter of the late Charles and Anna Fern (Kagarise) Dively. She was united in marriage to Russell M. Treece Feb. 11, 1952, in Winchester, Va. Mr. Treece preceded her in death Dec. 8, 2001. She is survived by one daughter and six sons: Rhonda J. Treece, Steven M. Treece, Zane R. Treece, Jeffrey L. Treece, Craig R. Treece, Joel D. Treece and Mitchell J. Treece. There are 12 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. One sister, Carol Lamborn, preceded her in death. Mrs. Treece was a member of the Raystown Church of the Brethren, Saxton. She was a member of the Broad Top Senior Citizens. A homemaker, she had worked for Cove Shoe and Cove Apple Packers. A memorial service will be held at the Raystown Church of the Brethren June 29. Charles H. KREIDLER 91, of R.R. 2, Box 47 Huntingdon, died June 26, 2003, at his home. Born June 8, 1912, in Washington Boro, he was a son of the late David K. and Bertha C. (Wissler) Kreidler. He was married to the former Emma M. Jones, Mrs. Kriedler survives at their home. Three children survive: Sandra J. Harrison, State College; Sharon K. Narehood, Morrisdale; and Benjamin C. Kreidler, Huntingdon. There are four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Mr. Kreidler was a member of Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Huntingdon. Prior to his retirement, he was a construction worker for County Construction of Philadelphia, and Herbert R. Imbt Construction of State College. He had also been a trackman for the Pennsylvania Railroad and a road crew laborer for the Pennsylvania Department of Highways. Martha G. DECKER, 87, formerly of Alexandria and Huntingdon, died June 28, 2003, at the Robert Buckley home, 717 Moore St., Huntingdon, where she had been residing. Born Aug. 25, 1915, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Elsie T. (Corcelius) Goss. She was united in marriage to Paul Frederick Decker June 10, 1945, in the Alexandria Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Harry Geissinger. Mr. Decker preceded her in death Jan. 16, 1954. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Decker was a member of First United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. She was a member of Standing Stone Senior Citizens and a volunteer for the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society and the Juniata Foundation for the Blind. She began her employment with J.C. Blair Co., Huntingdon, in 1944, retiring from its successor, Westab, in 1977, with 33 years service. Funeral services will be held July 2, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Dr. Timothy Weitkamp officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. Robert James FESSLER, 82, of 128 Oberman St., Saxton, died June 28, 2003, at his home following an extended illness. Born Nov. 22, 1920, in Dudley, he was a son of the late Charles W. and Nancy Agnes VonMoss (Dolt) Fessler. He was married to the former Violet L. Detwiler July 8, 1945, in the Saxton Church of God. Mrs. Fessler preceded him in death March 2, 2002. He is survived by one daughter and one son: Mrs. Fred (Pat) Heath, Saxton, and James Fessler, Rochester. There are nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Three sisters and two brothers survive: Hazel Jones, Samuel Fessler and Vera Fessler, all of Dudley; Bernice Coy, Meadville, and George Fessler, Saxton. He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Fessler, and an infant daughter, Joyce Ann Fessler; and the following brothers and sisters: Mary Hall, Howard Fessler, Joseph Fessler, Phillip Fessler, John Fessler, Charles Fessler, Gladys Fessler, Anna Fessler and Blanche Fessler. Mr. Fessler was a member of the Church of God Tabernacle, Saxton. He was a life member of both Post No. 4129 VFW and Post No. 169 American Legion, both of Saxton. A veteran of World War II, he served as a medic with the U.S. Army. For a number of years, he was a coal miner. He retired from Conrail in 1894, following 34 years service as a brakeman and a conductor. At the time of his retirement, he was working in the Conway Rail Yard, Freedom. He enjoyed playing with his great-grandchildren and working in his yard and in his garage. Funeral services will be held on July 2, at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor Lanny Hoover officiating. Interment will be made in Grandview Cemetery, Saxton, where full military honors will be accorded. Sandra K. KUKLO, 61, Hopewell, died June 28, 2003, at her home, following a lengthy illness. Born April 3, 1942, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late James and Eva (Parks) Swope. She is survived by three sons and three daughters:; Gary McQuaite, Hopewell; Tammy Hockenberry, Riddlesburg; Ronald McQuaite, Langdondale; and Tina Shauf, John Kuklo Jr. and Angel Kuklo, all of Hopewell. Ten grandchildren survive: Amie McQuaite, Gary McQuaite Jr., Danielle Campbell, Shawn Hughes, Brittany McQuaite, Garrett McQuaite, Bryant Nichols, Zakary Nichols, Lukas Kuklo and Noah Kuklo. There is one great-grandchild, Trajen Atherton. One brother and two sisters survive: Thomas Swope, Chambersburg; Karen Hoffman, Petersburg; and Penny Roberts, Saxton. Mrs. Kuklo was a member of Riddlesburg Independent Bible Church, Riddlesburg. She was a member of the Hopewell area Senior Citizens. For a number of years, she worked for Penn DOT, but was primarily a homemaker. A memorial service will be held July 5, at Riddlesburg Independent Bible Church with Pastor Jesse Musser officiating. Michaela Dawn HINTON, 13 month-old daughter of Michael Hinton and Nicole Morrow of Shirleysburg, died June 29, 2003, at the home of her grandparents, Patricia and Paul Hamilton of Orbisonia. She was born May 8, 2002 in Huntingdon. She is survived by her paternal grandparents, Joseph and Iva Hinton of Mount Union, and her maternal grandparents, Patricia and Paul Hamilton, Orbisonia; and Richard and Katherine Morrow, Oakland Mills. She is also survived by her paternal great-grandparents: Burton Hinton and Mary Lou Nickoloff, both of Mount Union; Dora Ramsey of Orbisonia; and Bonnie Fleck of Mount Union; her maternal great-grandparents: James Brown Sr., Rockhill Furnace; and Anna Mae Brown, Mifflintown; and her step-great-grandparents, David and Glenda Hamilton, Burnt Cabins. One brother, Ethan Lane, also survives at home. She was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Donald Morrow. Funeral services will be held July 2, at the Martin R. Earl Eugene YOUNG, 87, of 215 Maple St., Mifflinburg, entered into rest June 29, 2003, at River Woods, Lewisburg, where he had been a guest for several weeks. He had resided in Mifflinburg since 1954 and prior to that lived in Mount Union. Born Feb. 22, 1916, in Williamsport, Lycoming County, he was a son of the late John H. and Stella M. (Wheeland) Young. He was married Nov. 4, 1942, in Williamsport, to the former Gladys Evelyn Menken who preceded him in death May 6, 1975. He then married the former Eleanor May Gehron Henry Feb. 8, 1976, in Lancaster. She preceded him in death Oct. 13, 2002. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janet A. and John A. Edwards of Mifflinburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Earl Eugene II and Cynthia J. Young, Brandon, Fla.; and a step-daughter and her husband, Ann H. and Don M. Larrabee, Williamsport. There are four grandchildren: Matthew J. Edwards, Raleigh, N.C.; Elizabeth Y. Edwards, Shippensburg; and Brenden J. Young and Adan C. Young, both of Bandon, Fla.; and two step-grandsons: Brian R. Carosielli, Hoboken, J.J.; and Todd M. Carosielli, New York, N.Y. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Albert Young, Charles Young and Joseph Young. Mr. Young was a member of the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church. He was a longtime member and past president of the Mifflinburg Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Thomas H. Clapham Post No. 410 American Legion and the Free and Accepted Masons, Lodge No. 370, both of Mifflinburg; a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry of the Valley of Williamsport and a member of the National Retired Teachers Association since 1975. An avid sports fan and golfer, he also held membership in the Shade Mountain Golf Association, Middleburg. He graduated from the Willamsprot High School, Class of 1933, and from Lock Haven University, Class of 1940, with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and physical education. While at Lock Haven University, he played varsity basketball and football and was inducted into the college's Hall of Fame. He graduated from Penn State University, State College, Class of 1951, with a master's degree in education. He began his career in 1940 as a mathematics and physical education teacher at the Clay Elementary School of the Williamsport School District and taught there until he entered the United States Navy Aug. 29, 1941, in Philadelphia. He was honorably discharged as a lieutenant Nov. 9, 1945, at Norfolk, Va. Following his discharge from the U.S. Navy, he was employed from 1946 - 1954 as a coach, teacher and secondary principal in the Mount Union Area School District. He went to the Western Area Joint School District of Union County June 1, 1954, where he served as the principal of the Junior-Senior High School. During his tenure as principal, he also served as high school Athletic director and also managed the summer swim program at the Kathryn E. Goss Memorial Pool in Mifflinburg Park from 1959 through the early 1960s. In 1967, he was named superintendent of schools of the Mifflinburg Area School District, a position he held until his retirement June 30, 1975. He was serving as superintendent when the Mifflinburg Middle School was constructed in 1974. A life celebration service will be held July 5, at the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church, Mifflinburg, with the Rev. Ronald A. Warfle, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be made in Hilltop Cemetery, Mifflinburg. Mildred Leoda (Lockard) TROY, 83, of Robertsdale, passed away June 30, 2003, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. She had been in failing health for the past several months. Born Sept. 5, 1919, in Robertsdale, she was a daughter of the late George Sr. and Adaline (Roche) Lockard. She was united in marriage to Clifton Troy Aug. 16, 1963. Mr. Troy preceded her in death Aug. 25, 1973. She is survived by one sister, Elsie "Gussie" Huff, Ringgold, Md. She is also survived by five nephews, 11 grandnephews and 12 grandnieces; and her caregiver, Anna Mosbey. A stepson survives. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Florean Stevenson and Ruth Curry; and five brothers: Homer Lockard, Wilbert Lockard, George Lockard Jr., Dewayne Lockard and Deweese Lockard. Mrs. Troy was an active member of the Robertsdale Church of God where she was a Sunday School teacher, sang in the church choir, taught prayer meeting and Bible School classes and visited and prayed for the sick when she was able. She was also a member of the Women of the Church of God group. She was a member of the Robertsdale, Wood and Broad Top Ladies Auxiliary and the Hopewell and Saxton Area Senior Citizens groups. She graduated from Robertsdale High School in 1937 as valedictorian of her class. She had worked as a clerk in the former McClain Store, Robertsdale, for several years. She had also worked in an auto parts store in Altoona while residing there. Mrs. Troy had lived in Altoona for ten years before returning to Robertsdale. Most recently, she resided, from November 2002 until March 31, 2003, at Meadowview Manor Personal Care Home, spent two months at her own home and returned to Meadowview Manor June 10. Funeral services will be held at Robertsdale Church of God with Pastor Donald Simmons officiating. Interment will be made in the Broad Top City IOOF Cemetery, Broad Top City. Carrie M. ZIMMERMAN, 62, of 18 W. 13th St.,Tyrone, died June 30, 2003, at the Tyrone Hospital emergency room. Born Aug. 11, 1940, in Thomastown, she was a daughter of the late Clarence F. and Lavina M. (Faust) Bonsell. She was united in marriage to Joe W. Zimmerman April 23, 1958, in Tyrone. Mr. Zimmerman survives. She is also survived by one daughter and two sons: Mrs. Ronald (Jacqueline) Beckwith; Rodney P. Zimmerman and his wife, Julie; and Wesley T. Zimmerman and his wife, Rhonda, all of Tyrone. There are ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One sister and two brothers survive: Anna Potts, Jack Bonsell and George Bonsell, all of Tyrone. She was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Holes. Mrs. Zimmerman was of the Protestant faith. She was a member of the Ladies Industrial Bowling League and the Howard Gardner American Legion. She had formerly been employed at K-Mart, State College, and at Ames Department Store in both Tyrone and Philipsburg. An avid bowler, she also enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and bingo. Funeral services will be held July 3, at Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone, with Pastor Tim Miller officiating. Interment will be made in Farnklinville Cemetery, Franklin Twp., Huntingdon County.
