Born Nov. 10, 1920, in Barree Township, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late John W. and Willa A. Clarke Ryder. On June 22, 1940, in Winchester, Va., he married "Betty" Marian Shenefelt, who survives at home. He attended the Manor Hill School and Petersburg Vocational High School. A Navy veteran, he served during World War II as a gunner's mate serving aboard the merchant ships USS Anthony Wayne and USS Quincy. He retired from Penn State in 1986 from Animal Sciences and for 14 years before that was with the Penn State Campus Patrol, for a total of 33 years with the University. He was a Methodist and member of Frank Buck Post 1 American Legion in Williamsport, a life member of Standing Stone Post 1754 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Hun-tingdon, and member of the National Rifle Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, John David of Williamsport, Samuel H. Jr. of Bar-ree Township, Huntingdon County, and Stephen W. of Hughesville; two sisters, Joanne C. Heck of Centre Hall, Mary Patricia Harris of Smithfield Township, Huntingdon; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Thurs-day at John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. William W. Kauffman officiating. Burial will be in Mooresville Cemetery, West Township, Petersburg. Robert Paul (Bob) Moore of State College died Friday evening, June 18, 1999, at Clare Bridge Alternative Living Home in State College. He was born Oct. 13, 1926, on Mountain Road, Port Matilda, a son of Esther Cowher Moore of rural Port Matilda and the late Frederick Austin Moore. He was married to Josephine Rumberger on Oct. 8, 1950, by the late Rev. Paul Myers at the Warriors Mark United Methodist Church. He graduated from Port Matilda High School in 1945. He completed an apprenticeship in printing through the Interna-tional Typographical Union. He took courses in insurance at Penn State. In the printing trade, he work-ed at the former Nittany Printing and Publishing Co., Himes Printing, and he owned and operated the Robert P. Moore Printing Shop, all of State College. He was also affiliated with the Conemaugh Valley Mutual Insurance Co. of Johnstown. He coached Little League baseball in State College for 10 years. Mrs. Kathryn Ruth Jane Banks of Bisbee, Arizona died at Tucson Medical Center at noon on Monday, June 21, 1999. She had been seriously ill for the last 19 days. She was born April 5, 1925 in Huntingdon, Penna, a daughter of Nannie Campbell and Frank Wilson Dillen. Both parents were schoolteachers and her father,also, a Justice of Peace. She was 74 years old, at the time of her death. On November 12, 1942, she was united in marriage to Lawrence A. Banks in Hagerstown, Maryland. They had celebrated nearly 57 years of marriage. They moved from Pennsylvania to Bisbee in 1957. Kathryn attended Huntingdon High School and Cochise College in Douglas. She received her certification to practice as a nurse's aide. Her employment included the County Hospital in Douglas and also the Warren Medical Clinic in Bisbee. Her primary interest and concern was her job as a devoted homemaker and kindness to other people. She attended the "First Assembly of God Church" in Bisbee. Preceding her in death was her only son, Larry D. Banks, USN abroad the USS Tripoli in 1974. Her only brother, Paul Campbell Dillon, died in November, 1998. Her surviving family includes her husband, Lawrence and two daughters, Nina S. He retired from Leapfrog Technologies in Altoona as a salesperson. He was a member of the Frank P. Hommon Post 24 American Legion in Huntingdon, the Standing Stone Post 1754 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Trinity United Methodist Church in Bellwood. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
