About 9 o'clock Monday evening the body of John W. Kooken, an aged farmer, who made his home with his brother, Thomas J. Kooken, in Eden valley, near Birmingham, was found in the woods some two miles from the home. After dinner he had started out to do some threshing, and not returning in the evening a search was instituted, with the foregoing result, death undoubtedly being caused by apoplexy. He was aged 66 years and unmarried. Surviving him are six brothers and three sisters, viz, Wesley, Pierce and Abram Kooken, in the western states; Dallas and Madison Kooken, of Canoe valley; Thomas J. Kooken, of Eden valley; Mrs. Mary Thompson, of Punxsutawney, and two sisters whose names we did not learn. Funeral services will be held at the home of Thomas J. Kooken to-morrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, to be conducted by Rev. H. H. Henry. Interment to follow in the Presbyterian cemetery at Birmingham. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Wednesday, November 15, 1899 BIRMINGHAM PENCILINGS. The sudden death of Mr. John Kooken has removed from this community one of its sturdiest sons of toil. It can be truthfully said that he was a kind friend and neighbor, and in his occupation as a fruit grower was advanced beyond that of the ordinary. As an orchardist he had few superiors, whose kindly advice along these lines will be sadly missed. Morning Tribune, Wednesday, November 29, 1899
