Thursday, March 7, 1940; p9. Charles Burton Lane, aged 59 years, 11 months and 21 days, died at his home, 316 Jefferson street, Mount Union, this Thursday morning, March 7, 1940, at 1:05 a.m. He had been in failing health for several years and had been confined to his room since Thanksgiving of last year. Mr. Lane was born in Clay township, Huntingdon county, on March 16, 1880, a son of William and Mary Jane (Moffatt) Lane, both deceased. On April 11, 1901, he was united in marriage to Vivian Gutshall, who died in May 1934. More than twenty years of their married life was spent in Saltillo and in 1929 they moved to Mount Union, where Mr. Lane had since resided. Prior to his illness, he was employed by the Harbison Walker Brick company, of Mount Union. He united with the Saltillo Methodist church a number of years ago and was a member of the Junior Order United American Mechanics, of Mount Union. Surviving are these children: William Lane of Hustontown; Clara, Mrs. Frank Everhart, of Cassville; Ora, Mrs. Carl Grissinger of Mount Union; and Raymond Lane, of Mount Union. Four sisters also survive: Mrs. John Leighton, of Spring City, Pa.; Mrs. Nina Norris of Three Springs; Mrs. Charles Roher and Mrs. James Hawley, both of Wood. A number of grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 10, with prayer service at the Lane home in Mount Union at 1:00 o’clock, followed by services in the Saltillo Methodist church conducted by the Rev. W. W. Willard, of Mount Union, upon arrival of the funeral cortege. Interment will be made in the Saltillo cemetery by Green’s funeral service.
