"Dick" Leidy, age 76, of Centre Crest Nursing Home, Bellefonte, and formerly of RD#1 Porter Township, Alexandria and Crawford Apartments, Huntingdon, died Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at 12:30 a.m., at the home. He was born November 29, 1926 at the family home in Water Street, the son of the late Lester R. and Melva (Mock) Leidy. On January 21, 1950 at St. Matthew Church in Tyrone, he married Anna L. Baldauf who preceded him in death on December 23, 1986. He is survived by a son, Harry R. Leidy Jr., of Huntingdon, a daughter, Mrs. William (Patricia A.) Leipold of Boalsburg, a daughter- in-law Kay Leidy of Tyrone, two sisters, Mrs. Dick (Margaret) Bennet of Highspire, and Mrs. John (Shirley) Bailey of Tyrone, two brothers, Don Leidy and wife Shirley of Baltimore, Md., and Jake Leidy and wife Barbara of Alexandria. Mr. Leidy is also survived by four granddaughters: Mrs. Joe (Cynthia) LaNunziata of Swoyersville; Mrs. Jeff (Becky) Gaudette of Tyrone; Mrs. Keith (Beth) Thompson of Petersburg and Mrs. Ken (Jennifer) Puhatch of Altoona and two grandsons Rick Leipold of State College and Raymond Leidy of Tyrone plus three great-grandsons Sidney and Lance Puhatch and Alan Thompson and a great-granddaughter Aubree Thompson. He was preceded in death by a brother Lester Leidy Jr., and a son George R. Leidy who passed away on April 29, 2000. He attended the one-room schoolhouse in Mooresville. Mr. Leidy began his career at the Brickyard in Alexandria and later retired from the Interstate Amesite Plant in Tyrone. He was a member of the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Company where he had been an active firefighter and volunteer with Bingo and other functions, the home association of William P. Spyker American Legion Post #520 in Alexandria and in his earlier years was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Mr. Leidy was an avid outdoorsman enjoying both hunting and fishing. He was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County until moving to Centre Crest Nursing Home in December of 2001. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2003 at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home - Juniata Valley Chapel, 412 Main Street, Alexandria with Jeff Gaudette officiating. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and tomorrow from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. Interment will be at Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alexandria Fire Company, P.O. Box 378, Alexandria, Pa. 16611 or to the American Cancer Society, RD #1 Huntingdon, Pa. 16652.
