Wednesday, March 21, 1945, p3. John Robert Leighton died at his home in Three Springs at 6:30 this morning, Wednesday, March 21, 1945. He had been in poor health and had been unable to work for the past two years. Born in England, July 5, 1878, he was the son of William and Jane Robinson Leighton. His parents came to this country when he was two years old and most of his life had been spent in Robertsdale and Three Springs communities. He had been a coal miner for many years but immediately before his illness had been employed at Penn Hurst State School. On April 30, 1905, Mr. Leighton and Miss Minerva Lane were married by the Rev. Ash in the Methodist parsonage at Three Springs. He was a member of the Three Springs United Brethren Church. He is survived by his wife and a foster daughter, Mrs. Ruth Rinker of Alexandria, Va. Two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 24, with prayer at the Leighton home at two o’clock in the afternoon, followed by a service at the United Brethren Church at Three Springs, conducted by his pastor, the Rev. Theodore Bowers. Interment will be in the Three Springs Cemetery by Green’s funeral service.
