Locke John Newton Locke, 71, of South Second Street, Chambersburg, died at 8 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2001, at his home. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, May 26, at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, RD Shade Gap, with Rev. Ronald Cook officiating. Interment will be made in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. The VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will provide military honors at the cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia. Born Feb. 2, 1930, in Dublin Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Harry S. and Dessie Mae (Clymans) Locke. Surviving is a son, Mark Kenneth Locke of Albuquerque, N.M. Surviving are three sisters: Edna Keller and Betty Tamer, both of Chambersburg, and Edith Plummer of Stoughton, Wis. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Mr. Locke was of the Protestant faith. He was a Korean War veteran. Mr. Locke was a member of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg, and a member of Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46, Chambersburg. In his early years, he had worked as a sawmill worker, later working at Letterkenny Army Depot from which he retired on disability.
