Mrs. McCarthy had been ill only a short time and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clara Pollock of Huntingdon, at 2:15 Wednesday afternoon. With the exception of twenty years' residence at Atkinson's Mills, Mifflin county, practically all her long life of 96 years had been spent in Huntingdon county. Since 1882, when her husband, John R. McCarthy, departed this life, she had been a resident of Huntingdon. She was one of a widely known family, her brother, General F. H. Lane, having been one of Huntingdon's celebrated sons. He died at her home some months ago. Mrs. McCarthy was a remarkable woman. To have reached the age of 96 years in itself ia distinction. But she did even more, having had possession of all her faculties to a marked degree and having been quite active until her last illness came upon her. She was one of those even-tempered woment, whom no one ever saw out of humor, genial at all times, an inspiration to all who shared her acquaintaance. To her habit of taking life as it came, without fret and always looking on the cheery side, may be attributed in some measure her length of days. For more years than are allotted to most people to live, she had been a member of the Presbyterian church, active in its service and devote to the Master's work in everyday life as well as on Sunday. She was always faithful in her attendance at church, having been there for the last time only about two weeks ago. Ten children were born to Mrs. McCarthy, nine of whom grew to manhood or womanhood, six of whom survive her: Dr. S. L McCarthy, of this city; C. R., W. V. and Mrs. Clara Pollock, of Huntingdon Mrs. Augusta Ebert, of Loysburg, Perry county; S. F., of Albany. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, with interment at Huntingdon. Altoona Times Fri. Mar 31, 1911 Page 11 The Death Record MRS.
