Wednesday, July 19, 1961; 2. Horace F. Manbeck, well-known Petersburg businessman was found dead in his sore at Petersburg on Tuesday July 18, 1961, at 11:55 a.m. Death was due to a heart attack. The deceased was born in Petersburg on December 20, 1906, a son of John M. and Jane (Moffet) Manbeck. He never married. He spent his entire life in the Petersburg area. He was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church and the Juniata Valley Lions Club. Mr. Manbeck as an inspector for the State Department of Highways and also worked at the Middletown Air Base during World War II. He returned to Petersburg in 1948 following the death of his father to operate the store founded by his father, J. M. Manbeck. A step-sister, Miss Hazel Crownover of Petersburg in whose home he resided is the only survivor. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the late home. The Rev. Donald W. Carrothers will officiate and interment will be made at the Cedar grove Cemetery, directed by the Spyker funeral service of Petersburg.
