John S. Mattern

  John Stewart Mattern died at his home at Seven Stars at 10:30 o'clock 
Friday morning, after an extended illness from a complication of 
diseases.  He was born on May 18, 1849, and was a son of John and Jane 
McPherran Mattern.  His wife and the following sons and daughters 
survive: Mrs. Warren Bailey, of Johnstown; George W. Mattern, of 
Pittsburgh; Mrs. Harriet Bush and Mrs. Eugene Waite, of Tyrone; Samuel, 
Frank and Milton Mattern, of Spruce Creek valley.
 Funeral services will be held at the home of the deceased on Monday 
afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.  Burial will be made in the Lutheran 
cemetery at Seven Stars.
