Mattern died at his home at Franklin, Venango county, Sunday afternoon, and was buried there on Tuesday. He was the brother of the late George W. Mattern, of Franklinville. His father was Jacob Mattern, and the family have been among the substantial citizens of Spruce Creek Valley for more than a century. The wife of the deceased was Sarah Conrad, sister of W. Fisk Conrad, of Tyrone. Mr. Mattern and wife attended the reunion of the Mattern family at Warriors Mark some time ago, and visited this vicinity once since that time.
