(Miller) HOLLAND, 82, of 615 14th St., Huntingdon, died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002, at the Tyrone Hospital, Tyrone. She had been a resident of her current address for 62 years, and had been in failing health for the past several months. She was born July 6, 1919, in Spruce Creek, the daughter of Joseph E. and Treva B. (Everhart) Miller. Her parents preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to Harold E. "Dutch" Holland Nov. 11, 1938, in Hagerstown, Md. He preceded her in death March 14, 1993. Two sons survive: Ronald L. Holland of Waterville, Ohio, and Harold Dennis Holland of Huntingdon. There are four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Holland was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her sister, Janice (Miller) McNeal. She attended the Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. Mrs. Holland was a graduate of Huntingdon High School in the Class of 1936. She retired from the Reconditioning Department of Owens-Corning Fiberglas in 1981 after 25 years of service. She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, crafts and crocheting. A funeral service will be held at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5. The Rev. David Dearing will officiate. Interment will be made in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Twp. Christine "Teenie" (Brandt) BECKEL, 89, of 511 N. First St., Charlottesville, Va., died March 3, 2002, at her home. She was born July 13, 1912, in Lewistown, the daughter of the late Charles and Ida (Emory) Brandt. She was married to Cambridge Graham Beckel J. for 28 years. He survives at his new assisted living residence at Winterhaven, Building 2, Room 5, 220 South Pantops Dr., Charlottesville, Va. 22911, where he moved March 21. Prior to that marriage, she was the wife of Kirk Westbrook, who co-owned Westbrook Shoe Store in Huntingdon. Stepchildren are Ann Westbrook Grubb of Columbia, Margaret B. Proto of Collierville, Tenn., Robert G. "Bud" Beckel of Bethesda, Md. and Graham S. Beckel of Los Angeles, Calif. Mrs. Beckel was a former manager of the Danks Store in Huntingdon. Interment was made at the Beckel family plot in Maple Grove Cemetery, Granville, Ohio. John H. MELOY, M.D., 60, of R.R. 2, Box 246, Hollidaysburg, died at 9 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, at his home. His death was unexpected. He had been a resident of his current home since 1973. He was born Jan. 29, 1942, in Huntingdon, the son of the late Thomas C. and Doris (McCoy) Meloy. He was married to Jean Kann June 27, 1964, at the Abbey Reformed United Church of Christ, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Nelson Wenner officiating. His wife survives at their home. Dr. Meloy is survived by a daughter and a son, Natalie L. Meloy and Thomas B. Meloy, both at home. There is one grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas R. Meloy, M.D. Dr. Meloy was of the Protestant faith. He was a graduate of Huntingdon High School in the Class of 1959. He earned a bachelor of science degree in biology in 1963 at Juniata College and he graduated from the Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia (now Thomas Jefferson University) in June 1967 as a medical doctor. He performed his medical internship at Harrisburg's Polyclinic Hospital from 1967-1968; served his internal medicine residency at Polyclinic Hospital from 1968 to 1970 and West Virginia University Hospital from 1970-71; served with the U.S. Navy Medical Corps with the rank of Lieutenant commander at the Quantico Naval Hospital, Quantico, Va., from 1971 to 1973; and was board certified in internal medicine in June 1973. Dr. Meloy had practiced internal medicine in Altoona since 1973 and was actively involved in the cancer program and tumor board for many years. He served as chairman of the Department of Medicine and on many medical staff committees throughout his tenure. He was on the staff of both the Altoona Hospital and Bon Secours Holy Family Regional Health System Altoona. He served as chief of staff of Altoona Hospital from 1981 until 1993. His hobbies included woodworking and hunting, and he had been a licensed pilot since 1965. A funeral service will be held at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 7. The Rev. Edward L. Eckenrod will officiate. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. Helen L. RAGER, 77, of 4027 U.S. Highway 522 S., McVeytown, died at 10:59 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. She was born June 15, 1924, at McVeytown, the daughter of Robert L. and Maude Estelle (Rhodes) Sunderland, both deceased. She was united in marriage to Herman W. Rager, who preceded her in death Feb. 23, 1997. She is sruvived by four children: Mrs. Steve (Connie) Wike of Huntingdon; Susan C. French of Lewistown; Mrs. Walt (Patsy) McKnight of Fort Royal, and Dennis Rager Sr. of Lockport, Lewistown, as well as 12 grandchildren, one of whom, Desiree Stillman of Lewistown, she reared in her home. She is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Clark (Beulah) Barron of Elkton, Md., survives. She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters. Mrs. Rager was a member of the Wayne United Methodist Church, McVeytown. She worked as a production employee for C.M. Creitz Bologna of Mount Union and later worked fro Empire Kosher, Mifflintown. Lastly, she was a homemaker. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Wayne United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Marion Hartman and Charles Rhodes officiating. Interment will be made in the Wayne United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mildred E. SHOPE, 79, of Saltillo, died at 5:05 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002, at York Hospital, York. Born Dec. 29, 1922, at Robertsdale, she was the daughter of the late George and Cecilia (Foore) Leonard. She married Jerry F. Shope Sept. 20, 1943. Mr. Shope preceded her in death March 1, 1984. She is survived by the following children: Darlene Lyons, Lansdale; Mona Hagner, RedLion; Gloria Appleby, Greencastle; Darla Wills, Saltillo; Jerry Shope, Colmar; Tammy Nelson, Prattville, Ala.; Craig Shope, Huntingdon; and Kathy Shope, York. Twenty-two grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive. A sister, Vera Leonard of Robertsdale, survives. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Mrs. Shope was of the Protestant faith. She was employed by L. Grief Bros. Manufacturing, Mount Union, for 20 years and retired from Empire Kosher Inc., Mifflintown, after five years. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at the Robert I. McClain Funeral Home, Cassville, with the Rev. Louis Barth officiating. Interment will be made in Saltillo Cemetery. James H. "Jim" BEAVER, 67, of Box 313, Mount Union, died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona, following an extended illness. Born Sept. 11, 1934, in Shirley Twp., Huntingdon County, he was the son of George W. and Mary M. (Beaver) Ripple, both deceased. He was united in marriage to Edna Longenecker Feb. 17, 1953, in Hagerstown, Md. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Barbara A. Kling of Burnt Cabins; Faye A. Kemp of County Club Rd., Mount Union; Peggy A. Brunner of Newton Hamilton; Mary A. Plank of Orbisonia; Susie I. Tyson of Lewistown; David G. Beaver of Lewistown, and Sharon E. Beaver of Mount Union. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Irene Lancaster of Kistler, Mount Union and Virginia Lancaster of Huntingdon, survive. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia A. Fortney; a son, James H. Beaver Jr., and three grandchildren. Mr. Beaver attended Assembly of God Church, Mount Union. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a retired member of the Mount Union Volunteer Fire Company. He served in the Army National Guard, Huntingdon. He retired in 1977, as a school bus driver for Royer Smith Busing. He was also , at one time, a patrolman of the Mount Union Police Department and later the auxiliary police in the Mount Union Area. He also served as a Pennsylvania State Constable. Mr. Beaver loved to hunt and work on mechanical things. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Gordon Ross officiating. Interment will be made in the Mount Nebo Cemetery, Shirleysburg. Marshall B. "Mike" DEFORREST, 80, of Huntingdon, formerly of 2210 Taylor Ave., Huntingdon, died at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Centre Community Hospital, State College. He was born Dec. 7, 1921, in Huntingdon, the son of the late Marshall H. and Ruth (Greenleaf) DeForrest. He was married to Ruth Denny July 13, 1944, at the Howard Methodist Church in Towson, Md. She preceded him in death Oct. 13, 2000. A son, M. Bart DeForrest of Apex. N.C. and a daughter, Jan D. McCloskey of Wilbraham, Mass., survive. There are five grandchildren. Mr. DeForrest was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Huntingdon. He was a graduate of Huntingdon High School in the Class of 1939, having been active in football, basketball and baseball. He was team captain of the football and basketball squads. He also served as class president. He graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle with a PhB degree in the Class of 1943. While at Dickinson, he was captain of the football and basketball teams. He graduated from Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle with a LLB degree in the Class of 1947. During World War II, Mr. DeForrest served with the U.S. Navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets. He was first assigned to the USS Baltimore and later to subchasers and gunboats at the Anzio Beachhead at Salevino, Italy. He was later assigned duty aboard the USS 1510 (Destroyer) providing escort to convoys in the North Atlantic supply line to Russia. He conducted his war duties in the Pacific Theatre as the commanding officer aboard the USS 3920 (Destroyer escort). Following active duty during the war and his graduation from law school, Mr. DeForrest was assigned to Naval Intelligence in the U.S. Naval Reserve and remained active in the reserve for 26 years. He retired in 1981 as a commander. Mr. DeForrest joined United States Fidelity and Guaranty Corporation in Baltimore, Md., in 1950, as a corporate counsel. He returned to Huntingdon and private practice in 1952. He first associated with Samuel H. Stewart and later R. Merle Heffner. He was later associated with attorneys Lawrence Newton and Harvey Reeder until his retirement in 1996. In addition to the practice of law, Mr. DeForrest was chairman of the board, partner and active in management of Anchorage Enterprises, Inc. of Raystown Lake and the Seven Points Marina. In 1999, he was honored as a 50 year member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. He was admitted to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the Huntingdon County Court in 1949; admitted to the Supreme Court of Maryland and the Baltimore, Md., court system in 1950; and admitted to the Supreme Court of the U.S. in 1953. He was a member of the Pennsylvania District Attorney's Association; the Fraternal Order of Police; Mount Moriah Lodge #300, F&AM (50 years), Harrisburg Consistory and Jaffa Shrine; life member of the Frank P. Hommon American Legion Post 24, Standing Stone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1754 and 40 et 8, all in Huntingdon; life member of Huntingdon Elks Lodge #976; member and past president of the Huntingdon Country Club and member of the Standing Stone Golf Course, both of Huntingdon, and member of several other golf courses in other communities; member of several law-related organizations; former counsel and solicitor for numerous municipalities, business organizations and authorities. Mr. DeForrest was a avid golfer and spent winter with his family in Myrtle Beach, S.C., for over 40 years. He enjoyed sailing and power boating on Raystown Dam and later on Raysown Lake. He loved animals, especially dogs and cats, and fine automobiles. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon. The Rev. Peter Naschke will officiate. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. Mary G. KNABLE, 88, formerly of 805 DeForrest Apartments, Huntingdon, died at 8:05 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon. Born Oct. 12, 1913, in Center Union, she was the daughter of the late Samuel T. and Sarah A. (Gates) Gallagher. She married Norman C. Knable Nov. 10,1952, in Winchester, Va. He preceded her in death Oct. 31, 1971. She is survived by a son, Herve L. Glorioso, of Huntingdon and by two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by 18 brothers and sisters. Mrs. Knable was of the Catholic faith. She had worked on the housekeeping staff of J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, retiring in July 1974. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Elwood Figurelle officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. L. Vaughn WOOMER, 79, of 813 Highland Drive, Tyrone, died at 8:25 Monday, May 6, 2002, at Epworth Manor, Tyrone. Born Jan. 14, 1923, in Tyrone, he was the son of the late Luther and Mary E. (Wighaman) Woomer. We married his wife of 53 years, Betty A. McElwain, May 7, 1949, in Unionville. Mrs. Woomer survives. Three daughtes and a son survive: Mrs. Alan (Suzanne) Wrye, State College; Mrs. Port (Barbara) Williams, Huntingdon; Mrs. Greg (Mary Lou) White, Tyrone; and the Rev. Mark Woomer of Monongahela. Six grandchildren and three step-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Woomer was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tyrone, having served as a deacon, an elder, a trustee and a Sunday School teacher and he was a charter member of the Mariners Group. Active in Boy Scouting, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He later served on the board of the Camp Anderson Corporation and as a merit badge counselor. He was a 50 year member of the Howard Gardner Post No. 281, American Legion. He was a member of the Tyrone Lodge No. 494 F&AM, the Altoona Consistory, the Jaffa Shrine where he served on the entertainment committee, and the Tyrone Shrine Club. He had served on the board of directors of the Tyrone Hospital, the Tyrone Snyder Public Library and the Northern Blair Regional Sewer Authority. Mr. Woomer was the valedictorian of the Tyrone High School, Class of 1941, and graduated in 1947 from Juniata College with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry. He was employed by Westvaco Corp. where he first worked as a chemist in the activated carbon laboratory, later advancing to managerial positions in product development and and quality control. He retired in 1986, after 39 1/2 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II from 1943 to 1946 as a sergeant in the 68th Division in the European Theatre of the war. He was a music enthusiast and played the alto saxophone in the Jaffa Band for a number of years. He particularly enjoyed traveling, reading and solving crossword puzzles. A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 9, at the Bald Eagle Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. with full military honors accorded. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Presbyterian Church of Tyrone with the Rev. Robert E. Dunkelberger officiating. Patricia "Pat" Jean CARTER, 67, of 6421 Deepford St., Springfield, Va., formerly of Mount Union, died at 1 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md., following an extended illness. Born March 7, 1935, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of John A. "Ike" Alexander, who preceded her in death, and Ruth A. (Hurrell) Alexander, who resides in Mount Union. She married Francis "Frank" P. Carter Sept. 24, 1960, in Mount Union. He survives at their home. Three children survive: Craig Carter and Brenda Carter, both of Springfield, Va., and Lynda Ruth Carter of Seattle, Wash. A brother and a sister also survive: Janet Hann, Mount Union, and John F. Alexander, Boiling Springs. Mrs. Carter was of the Protestant faith. She was a graduate of Captain Jack High School, Class of 1953. During her life she was primarily a homemaker and enjoyed collecting birdhouses and interior decorating. she was a Civil War enthusiast. Interment will be made in Mount Union Cemetery. Jesse C. HARTMAN, 69, of 39 Jones St., Mount Union, died at 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at his home. He had been in failing health. Born Dec. 30, 1932, in Shirley Twp., Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Ralph and Margaret (Price) Hartman. He is survived by his companion of 39 years, Leora C. (McCreary) Mills, at their home. The following children survive: Charlene Truitt, Millsboro, Del.; Paul H. Mills, Mifflintown; Cheryl Blair, HCR, Mill Creek; Brian Mills, Mount Union; Dennis Mills, Huntingdon; Sarah Detwiler, Rockhill Furnace; and Jessica Snair, Rockhill Furnace. Fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. He is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Edna McIntyre, Shirleysburg; Jane Martz, Export; Helen Reed, Hustontown; Sarah Dinardi, Mount Union, and Hazel Donat, Aurora, Ohio. A son, William R. "Dooner" Mills, preceded him in death. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death: James Oliver Hartman, Arthur Lloyd Hartman; William Hartman; Lavonda Jean Hartman; and Virginia Wagner. Mr. Hartman attended the Cedar Crest-Lucy Furnace Chapel. He retired after 24 years from Empire Kosher in Mifflintown and prior to that he was employed in construction by Hemp Bros., of Harrisburg. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the VFW Post 5754, American Legion Post 107, and the Sons of Italy, all in Mount Union. He enjoyed his grandchildren, doing crossword puzzles, playing Jeopardy and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Mount Union Football team, whose games he attended regularly for over 20 years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m Friday, May 10, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Jeff Winstead officiating. Interment will be made in Mount Union Cemetery. Anna E. SATTA, 71, of McConnellstown, died at 5 a.m Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Feb. 27, 1931, in Logan Twp., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Olive (Fitzgerald) Bumbarger. She was married to John J. Satta Sr. March 1, 1947, in Front Royal, Va. Mr. Satta preceded her in death Nov. 8, 1982. She is survived by a son and two daughters: John J. Satta Jr., Smithfield; Linda S. Goodman, Huntingdon; and Connie R. McCracken, Huntingdon. Four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive. Four sisters and three brothers survive: Gertrude Peters, Huntingdon; Jean Garner, Huntingdon; Gladys Shaver, Huntingdon; George Bumbarger and John Bumbarger, both of Huntingdon; Norman Bumbarger, Petersburg; and Donna Ayers, Petersburg. Two brothers and a sister preceded her in death: James and Marshall "Pete" Bumbarger and Audrey Ross. She had been employed by the Huntingdon Machine Shop and its successor, Bonney Forge, and retired in 1980. Funeral services will be held at 11 am. Friday, May 10, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. David L. Dearing officiating. Interment will be made in Donation Cemetery, Huntingdon, R.R. 2. E. Louise "Weezy" WISE, 64, of Harmon Way, Orting, Wash., died of cancer, Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in Puyallup, Wash. Born Nov. 20, 1937, in Kelso, Wash., she was the daughter of Walter and Ella Painter. She was married to Joe H. Wise, formerly of Mapleton, for 43 years. He survives at their home. She is survived by the following children: Raymond Johnson of Redding, Calif.; David Wise of Kent, Wash.; Mrs. Loren (Diane) Hicks of Orting, Wash.; Mrs. Paul (Donna) Keller of Sunnyside, Wash.; and by seven grandchildren as well as numerous relatives in the Mapleton area. Four brothers and three sisters survive: Clyde, Roy, Victor and Keith Painter and Elsie Cook, Edith Hooper and Wilda Moore. A number of nieces and nephews survive. Mrs. Wise had been employed by Pierce County Communtiy Action Agency for the past 16 years. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 16 at 2 p.m. at the Orting Football Field. Mary G. DOAK, 84, of 422 W. Washington St., Chambersburg, died at 6:58 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2002, in the emergency room of Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 14, 1918, in Washington, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Cornelous Waters and Estelle (Bell) Murry. She first married Douglas J. Byers Sr., who preceded her in death Nov. 6, 1968. She then married Clarence L. Doak April 21, 1979. He survives at Beverly HealthCare in Fayetteville, where he is a resident. She is survived by four daughters and two sons: Mrs. Willie (Joanetta L.) Green of Mount Union; Theodore E. Byars of Staten Island, N.Y.; Minnie J. Byers of Durhan, N.C.; Mrs. Julian (Gloria J.) Burke of Palmyra, Va.; Mrs. Ronald (Barbara) Wheeler of Glassboro, N.J.; and Douglas J. Byers Jr. Twenty seven grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive. A brother, William Bell, preceded her in death. Mrs. Doak was a member of the John Wesley AME Zion Church, Chambersburg, where she was a member of the Deaconess and the cemetery board. She graduated from high school in Washington, N.D., and attended college for two years. During her lifetime, she was primarily a homemaker. She enjoyed flower gardening. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, at the John Wesley AME Zion Church, 155 W. Catherine St., Chambersburg, with the Rev. Perry W. Medley officiating. Interment will be made in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Louetta E. JOHNSON, 81, formerly of Shade Gap, and more recently a resident of Menno Haven Nursing Home, Chambersburg, died at 1:15 p.m., Friday, May 10, 2002, at the Hershey Medical Center. Born July 29, 1920 at Newburg, Cumberland County, she was the daughter of the late Evaline (Leedy) Barrick. She was married to Ralph A. Johnson July 20, 1939, at Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Johnson preceded her in death Feb. 22, 1995. Two daughters survive: Sylvia J. Smith of Newville and Shirley L. Shoop of Shade Gap. Four grandsons, six great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren also survive. She is survived by two brothers and two sisters: John Barrick, Newville; George Barrick, Shade Gap; Ruth Johnson, Newville; and Chloe Coppersmith of Shippensburg. She was preceded in death by infant twin daughters and two brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church, Shade Gap. During her lifetime, she was primarily a homemaker. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at the Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church, Shade Gap, with the Rev. Wilson Boyd officiating. Interment will be made at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Shade Gap. Linda Luella SPAGNOLETTI, 55, of Smithfield Twp., Huntingdon, died at 10:50 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born June 7, 1946, in Burnham, she was the daughter of the late Gordon C. and Luella M. (Schaeffer) Campbell. she married James W. Spagnoletti Feb. 24, 1964. She is survived by three children: James W. Spagnoletti Jr. and Kimbra Spagnoletti, both of Huntingdon, and Anthony G. Spagnoletti of Birdsboro. Two grandchildren also survive. Two brothers and two sisters survive: Gordon L. "Scoop" Campbell, Reedsville, Thomas J. Campbell, Mifflin, Mrs. Joseph A. (Carol A.) Wagner of Yeagertown and Mrs. Vincenzo (Nancy J.) Born, April 21, 1936, in Huntingdon, he was the son of Anne (Cunningham) Africa of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Huntingdon, and the late Elmer Africa. He is survived by two sons and a daughter: James Henry Africa, Lancaster; Mrs. Ronald (Kimberly A.) Bates, New Castle, Del.; and Robert J. Africa, Boulder, Colo. Two grandchildren survive. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 15, at 2 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. Violet J. BAIR, 82, of Route 103 south, McVeytown, died at 8:05 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2002, at her home. Born Nov. 26, 1919, in Cambria County, she was a daughter of the late James "Guy" Goshorn and the late Luvania (Moore) Goshorn Daniels. She married Mearl E. Bair Jr. March 3, 1942. He preceded her in death March 3, 1944, in combat at Anzio Beachhead while serving with Company A of the 4th Ranger Battalion, Fifth Army, during World War II. A daughter, Mrs. Zane (Luvania) Renninger of McVeytown, survives, as well as a granddaughter and great-granddaughter and three nephews. Two sisters also survive: Mrs. Margaret Wojnarek, Bethany Village, Horseheads, N.Y., and Mrs. Virginia Jury, McVeytown. She was preceded in death by a brother, Austin Goshorn, and by three infant brothers. She was a longtime children's Sunday School teacher. She was a former cook at the Beacon Lodge Camp for the Blind and the Newton Hamilton United Methodist Training Camp. Born Jan. 23, 1915, in Sullivan County, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Grace (Dunn) Moore. She married Arnold F. Chaney June 4, 1938, in the First Methodist Church, Altoona. Mr. Chaney preceded her in death March 2, 1976. Two sons survive, Barry F. Chaney, Martinsburg, and Loren A. Chaney, McConnellsburg, as well as two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Moore, Robert E., Lawrence E. and James E. Moore. Mrs. Chaney was a member of the Knobsville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Knobsville United Methodist Women and a member of the Knobsville Methodist Cheerful Workers Club and Singles Club. She graduated from Shippensburg University in 1937 with a B.S. degree in education, graduated cum laude with a B.A. in sociology in 1986 and earned a M.A. in psychology in 1989. She was a member of the president's club at the university. She was also a member of the Fulton County Retired Teacher's Association, the Pennsylvania Associating of School Retirees and the AARP. She had taught English and reading at Southern Huntingdon County High School from 1963 until her retirement in 1977. Prior to that, she had taught at Greenhill from 1953-1962, taught for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Tohatchee and in Standing Rock, N.M., from 1951-1953, and in various schools from 1937-1951. Born March 18, 1916, in Robertsdale, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Herbert and Pearl Belle (Shafer) Bollinger. She married George Blake Rutherford April 23, 1938, in Cumberland, Md., with the Rev. K. Flora officiating. Mr. Rutherford preceded her in death March 10, 1978. She is survived by two sisters: Vera (Bollinger) Woodle and Mabel (Bollinger) Harris, both of Huntingdon. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A brother, Maxwell Bollinger, preceded her in death. SCHLEGELMILCH, 74, of 50 Leaman Road, Lancaster, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at the Mennonite Home, Lancaster. Born Aug. 20, 1927, in Mountville, he was the son of the late James K. and Elizabeth S. (Lenhard) Schlegelmilch. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eunice (Leaman) Schlegelmilch. Two sons, Larry R. Schlegelmilch of Conestoga and James H. Schlegelmilch of Huntingdon, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive. Two brothers and a sister survive: Earl Schlegelmilch of Mountville, Nelson Schlegelmilch and Mrs. Raymond (Ruth) Goshkey, both of Lancaster. Mr. Schlegelmilch was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Lancaster, where he served as a trustee and a Sunday School teacher. He was an active member of Artisan Lodge 27. He was a graduate of Penn Manor High School. A masonry contractor, he owned Ralph L. Schlegelmilch and Sons Inc. since 1962. He was a Pequea Twp. surpervisor from 1979 to 1988 and served as its chairman. He also served on the Lancaster County Planning Commission. In 1983, he was elected president of the Twp. Supervisors Association of Lancaster County. Mr. Schlegelmilch was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. Born Dec. 28, 1942, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of Marybelle (Davis) Owens of Cheswick and the late George Owens. In addition to her mother, numerous relatives in York survive. Ms. Rocchi was of the Protestant faith. She was a 1960 graduate of Juniata Valley High School, Alexandria, and received a bachelor of science degree in education in 1964 and a master of education degree in 1968 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She was an elementary school teacher in the New Kensington- Arnold School District for 32 years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of the PSEA and NEA Retired Teachers organizations, Animal Protectors of New Kensington and the American Cancer Society. BLESSING, 83, of Liberty, Mo., formerly of Huntingdon County, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, in LIberty, Mo. Born Aug. 2, 1918, in Mapleton, she was the second child of Clark N. and May (Robley) Harshbarger. She was united in marriage to Guy Blessing in 1939. He preceded her in death in 1976. She is survived by a daughter and a son: Bonnie Moore of Liberty, Mo., and Dr. Tim Blessing of Reading. Two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive. Two sisters and one brother survive: Ann Cooper of New Brighton, Marcia Brandenburg of Severn, Md., and the Rev. Edward Harshbarger of Emporium. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Dora Harshbarger; stepfather, George Buchanon, and by a brother and a sister, Arthur Harshbarger and Julia Hasson. Ms. Blessing was of the Protestant faith. Earlier in her life, she had attended the former Evangelical United Brethren Church in Mapleton. She was a graduate of Mount Union High School, Class of 1936. A professional interviewer, she worked as an independent contractor for firms such as Research Triangle Institute, Gallup and the National Opinion Research Corporation. During her lifetime, she had resided in Utah and California and was a longtime resident of Tampa, Fla, having resided there for 42 years. She enjoyed nature and the outdoors. Jean (Decker) BARANUK, 83, a resident of 12 Alfred Drive, Lewisberry, Fairfield Twp., York County, since 1995, formerly of Huntingdon, died at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Harrisburg Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past two months. Born March 20, 1919, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late James S. and Mary (Moffatt) Decker. She was united in marriage to Steven Baranuk Sept. 29, 1949, by the Rev. Dr. G. Hobart McKeehan, at the Abbey Reformed United Church of Christ, Huntingdon. Mr. Baranuk preceded her in death in November 1966. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Henry W. (Eleanor Ann Baranuk) Rinck Jr. of Lewisberry and by one step-grandchild and one step-great-grandchild. An adopted sister, Dorothy (Decker) Hobbs of Huntingdon, survives. She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers: John Decker, Fred Decker, Marjorie Decker, G. Kenneth Decker, Dorothy V. (Decker) Reynolds and Eleanor (Decker) Port. Mrs. Baranuk was a member of the Abbey Reformed United Church of Christ, Huntingdon, where she was a Sunday School teacher and member and a soloist in the choir. She was a former Brownie and Girl Scout leader and a former Bible School teacher. She attended the Huntingdon public schools and graduated from Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1938. She was both a basketball player and a cheerleader during her high school years. She had been employed by the Westbrook Shoe Store and the J.B. Kunz Company, both of Huntingdon. She retired in 1989 as a teacher's aid with Huntingdon County Child Development. She was an avid reader and puzzle player. She enjoyed crocheting and music. SPENCER, 83, of Saxton, died at 10:34 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2002, at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital, Everett. Death was unexpected. Born Oct. 15, 1918, in Manns Choice, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Bertha (Mull) Fritz. She was united in marriage to Russell Spencer Aug. 13, 1938, in Cumberland, Md. Mr. Spencer preceded her in death in October 1979. She is survived by three daughters and a son: Leona Stapleton, Saxton; Carolyn Popa, Vineland, N.J.; Martha Reisinger, Manheim; and Dexel Spencer, Saxton. Fifteen grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren survive. A great-grandson, Tommy Ebersole, preceded her in death. She was the last survivng member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers: Mabel Scitchfield, Esther Fritz and Albert and George Fritz. Mrs. Spencer was a member of the Wood United Methodist Church for 57 years. She recently also attended the Saxton United Methodist Church. She graduated from the Manns Choice High School in 1936 as the valedictorian. She held member ships in the Pa. Farm Women Society Group 3, where she was currently a state director and treasurer. She was also the treasurer for the Wood United Methodist Church where she was a former board director and lay speaker. She had worked as a salesperson with Avon for 25 years and was still currently active. She previously managed the Club House in Wood, operated a convenience store in Yellow Creek and operated a restaurant in Neffs Mills. Stanford Wayne RUNK, 79, of Mifflintown, and formerly of Mount Union, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at 9:30 p.m. at the Lewistown Hospital in Lewistown. Mr. Runk was born May 20, 1922, in Shirley Twp., the son of the late Granville and Beatrice (James) Runk. He is survived by one son and three daughters: Gary Runk, Harrisburg; Mrs. Keith (Debra) Mingle, Mrs. Gary (Judy) Boozel and Mrs. Roger (Teresa) Nearhood, all of Mifflintown. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Two sisters survive: Katherine Shaffer, Bedford, and Mrs. Ronald (Isabel) Hoch, Clermont, Fla. Mr. Runk was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mifflintown, where he was a member of the Ambassador Sunday School class. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon, where he had worked in the custodial department. Later he worked at Woodland Retirement Center in Orbisonia. In his early years he had worked at Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg, and also worked at farming and construction. Calvin BAKER, 80, of Williamsburg, died Friday afternoon, May 17, 2002, at The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg, following a brief illness. Born April 29, 1922, at Martinsburg, he was the son of Calvin D. and Margaret (Wineland) Baker, both deceased. He was united in marriage to Thelma L. Brumbaugh June 6, 1944, at Fairview Church of the Brethren, Williamsburg. He was preceded in death by his wife Sept. 6, 2001. He is survived by five children: William Baker of Clover Creek, Carol Wasson of State College, Larry Baker of Loretto, Linda Messersmith of Mertztown and Norma Baker of Wilmington, Del., as well as 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Margaret Cuppett of New Paris and Verna Smith of Martinsburg, survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ellis and James Baker, and two sisters, Dorothy Hartzler and Mildred Dilling. Mr. Baker was a member of the Fairview Church of the Brethren, where he had served as a church board member, chairperson of the ministry commission, Sunday School superintendent and Sunday School teacher. He had also served as church clerk and financial secretary for more than 35 years and was elected, along with his wife, as a lifetime deacon in 1963. Mr. Baker also served as the church coordinator for the Mennonite Meat Canning Program for World Hunger and served as a district conference delegate and as an adult cabinet member. He was a member of the Scotch Valley Grange, Williamsburg Lions Club, Blair County Farmers Association, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and the Morrisons Cove Republican Club. Prior to his marriage, he was employed on his home farm and later by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He and his wife spent 34 years working on the family dairy farm, purchased in 1945. After retiring from farming , Mr. Baker worked nine years as a regional supervisor for dog law enforcement for the Pennsylvania Dept. of Agriculture. He had served Huston twp. as Republican committeeman since 1952, circulating petitions for local, state and federal candidates. He also served for more than 20 years on Huston Twps. election board and assisted in the district office of State Representative Jerry Stern. Mr. Baker also had served as president and board member of the Blair County Agricultural Extension Service. He was also a member of the board of directors for the Morrisons Cove Memorial Park and the Morrisons Cove Home for several years. He was a director at Central Bank for more than 30 years. Helen M. METZLER, 90, formerly of Curryville, died Friday, May 17, 2002, at The Village of Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg. Born March 9, 1912, she was the daughter of the late John R. and Elsie (Beach) Mock. She was married to Elwood D. Metzler July 21, 1940, in Curryville. He preceded her in death Oct. 27, 1999. She is survived by two daughters and a son: Cindy K. Myers of Martinsburg; Gloria G, Hartman of Liverpool, N.Y., and Durban D. Metzler of Martinsburg. Six grandchildren and one great-grandson survive. Two sisters and and brother survive: Gladys Shaner and Peggy Metzler, both of Martinsburg, and Richard Mock of Venice, Fla. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, John R. Mock, Donald Mock, Mary Hull and Marjorie Mock. Mrs. Metzler was a member of the Curryville Church of the Brethren, where she was the former choir director, Sunday School teacher and formerly was active in the Women's Fellowship. She was a 1930 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg; a 1943 graduate of Juniata College, Huntingdon, with a degree in music; and did post-graduate work at Penn State University and DePaul University, Chicago, ILL. She retired as a choral director/music teacher for the Northern Bedford county School District in 1974 after 17 years of service. Previously, she was employed as choral director/music teacher at the Bellwood-Antis School District for six years. She was a former member of the Blair County Civic Music Association, Lyric Choraleers, Nason Hospital Auxiliary, a former volunteer at Morrisons Cove Home and was formerly active with the Iron Masters Country Club Ladies' Golf Association, Roaring Spring. She enjoyed knitting, circle word puzzles, reading her Bible and watching baseball and golf on television. Ruth Deloris GROGG, 73, of Spotsylvania County, Va., died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, Va. Born Aug. 24, 1928, in Saxton, she was the daughter of the late William and Lorraine (Wise) Hinish. she married Irie Jennings Grogg. He survives at their home. Martha Jane LLOYD, 74, of 3 Pine Acres, Williamsburg, died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, following a brief illness. Born Jan. 6, 1928, at Spruce Creek, Huntingdon county, she was the daughter of the late John Burton and Sylvia Bell (Rowles) Houck. She was married to John A. Lloyd Jan. 15, 1950, in Williamsburg. Mr. Lloyd survives at their home. A daughter and two sons survive: Kathy I. Thomas of Mechanicsburg. Richard Wayne Lloyd of Johnstown and David Allen Lloyd of Williamsburg, as well as six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. She is survived by two sisters, Edna B. Robert Lee MORNINGSTAR, 47, of 912 Weaver St., Saxton, died unexpectedly at 2:49 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, in the emergency room of Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring. Born Dec. 6, 1954, in Roaring Spring, he was the son of Kenneth R. and Harriet "Tootie" (Fessler) Morningstar, who survive in Saxton. He was united in marriage to Shirley Pittman Oct. 21, 1978, in Sherman's Valley Brethren in Christ Church. Mrs. Morningstar survives at their home. Two children survive, Chad Morningstar of Saxton and Emily Morningstar at home. One grandchild survives. He is survived by a brother and two sisters: Scott Drew Morningstar of Hopewell; Mrs. Stanley (Lisa) Curfman of Locke Mills; and Gretchen H. She had been a resident of Huntingdon Borough for over 55 years. Born Oct. 14, 1922, in Wood, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Warholic) Sitch. She was united in marriage to John Zanylo Feb. 2, 1942 at St. Michael's Orthodox Church, Wood. Mr. Zanylo survives at their home. Three daughters and two sons survive: Kathy M. Erb, Surrey, British Columbia, Canada; Frank M. and Joseph P. Zanylo, both of Huntingdon; Susan N. Leitzell, Durham, Maine; and Patty A. Heidel, Mill Creek. Eleven grandchildren survive. Stephen Kundla officiating. Thomas L. "Butch" GAFF, 55, of 750 Lucy Furnace Road, McVeytown, died at 7:55 a.m. Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Altoona Hospital. He had been in failing health. Born Dec. 13, 1946, in Mount Union, he was the son of the late Forrest and Ada (Jenkins) Gaff. He married Annie L. Lower Dec. 30, 1968, in Mount Union. She survives at home. Two children survive: Thomas L. Gaff Jr. of McVeytown, and Susie M. Gaff of York. A grandson survives. He is survived by a sister, Shirley Gaff of Mount Union. Mr. Gaff was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Mount Union, and attended Pine Glenn Christian and Missionary Alliance. He was a graduate of Captain Jack High School, Class of 1965. He was employed for 19 years by the Harbison-Walker Refractories, Mount Union, and for many years worked at Fortney's Exxon, Mount Union. Archie Thomas HAMILTON JR., 80, of 2749 Warm Springs Ave., Huntingdon, where he had resided since the 1950's died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, following an extended illness. Born Oct. 10, 1921, in Three Springs, he was the son of the late Archie Thomas Sr. and Ella (Huston) Hamilton. He was united in marriage to Josephine Biddle Jan 26, 1946, at the Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, by the Rev. Frederick Moore. Mrs. Hamilton survives at their residence. A son, Robert W. Hamilton of James Creek, survives, as well as three grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Max and Robert Hamilton. Mr. Hamilton was of the Protestant faith. A lifelong resident of Huntingdon County, he was a graduate of Huntingdon High School, Class of 1940. He retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas in 1981, after 38 years of service as plant air conditioning specialist. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing. ISETT, 79, of 709 Mifflin St., Saxton, died at 12:09 a.m. Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, following an extended illness. Born June 16, 1922, in Hesston, he was the son of the late J. Guy and Sarah (Rice) Isett. He was united in marriage to Donna K. Carbaugh Nov. 22, 1945 in Confluence, by Paster Jerome B. Guss. Mrs. Isett survives at their home. the youngest of 16 children, he is survived by three sisters: Gladys Fouse, Pearl Garner and June Gosnell, all of James Creek. Nine brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. A number of nieces and nephews survive. Mr. Isett was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, Saxton, where he was a deacon and an elder for 40 years, a member of the men's fellowship and served on the building committee and the Saxton Food Bank. He was a member of the Saxton Lions and the Hopewell and Broad Top Senior Citizens. He served on the Tussey Mountain School Board for nine years. A 1940 graduate of Huntingdon High School, he was part owner/operator of R&R Vending Co. with his brother-in-law, Ralph Carbaugh, for 40 years until 1984 when it was sold. GILLIGAN, 95, of Pennsylvania Furnace, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Centre Community Hospital, State College. Born March 24, 1907, in Clearfield County, he was the the son of the late Edward J. and Clotilda (Kingston) Gilligan. He married Lenore Carper, who preceded him in death June 6, 2001. He is survived by a daughter and a son, Dawn L. Harpster and Ronald J. Gilligan, both of Pennsylvania Furnace, and by three grandchildren. A sister and four brothers survive: Bertha Pyle of State College, Robert Gilliagn of Norristown, Mark Gilligan of Boalsburg, Howard Gilligan of State College and Carl Gilligan of Pennsylvania Furnace. He was a member of the Baileyville Grange. In 1940, he bought the family farm and with his wife, farmed it until his retirement. He had previously run custom threshing machines in Centre and Blair counties. He enjoyed woodworking and going to auctions and baseball games. Born June 12, 1926, in Marshallton, Del., she was the daughter of the late Irvin B. and Elizabeth (Minner) Steele. She married Coolidge A. Eichelberger Jr. June 23, 1949, in Saxton. He survives at their home. She is survived by a son, Coolidge Eichelberger III of Saxton. She was preceded in death by a brother, I. Bayarde Steele. Mrs. Eichelberger attended the Trinity United Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Conrad High School and of Juniata College where she earned a bachelor of science degree in English-Latin education. She served as a past president of the Saxton Women's Club and served on the Saxton Community Library Board. She was an English-Latin educator at Saxton-Liberty High School and served as a school board director for the Tussey Mountain School District. THOMAS, 85, of 183 Thomas Road, Hopewell, died at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at Pennknoll Village, Bedford, following a brief illness. He was a coal miner for a number of years and later worked as a carpenter in the Washington, D.C. area. He enjoyed horse racing. Born Dec. 30, 1918, in Rocky Mount, N.C., he was the son of the late Edmundson A. and Katie (Langley) Winstead. He married Marguerite Naomi Shute April 9, 1946, in Altoona. Mrs. Winstead survives at their home. Three sons survive: Jeffrey L. Winstead of Mount Union, David A. Winstead of Albuquerque, N.J., and Richard E. Winstead of Altoona. Mr. Winstead was a member of the Grace Family Bible Church, Duncansville, where he served as deacon and was involved with the visitation ministry. He was a former member and past president of the Lakemont Lions Club. A graduate of the former Renaurd School of Embalming, New York, he served as funeral director at the former John P. Lafferty Funeral Home and the James F. Saleme Funeral Home, both of Altoona. After retirement he worked part time at the Warren H. Replogle Funeral Home, Altoona. Jerry Sue (Gunderson) SYVERSON, 56, of Williston, N.D., died Friday, May 24, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital in Billings, Mont. She was born Jan. 6, 1946, in Huntingdon, the daughter of Dorothy Evans of Mount Union and the late Edward Evans. She was thrice married, first to Jerry Schmitz, July 1969, and to Bob Gunderson in 1977. Both marrriages ended in divorce. On Dec. 22, 1995, she was united in marriage to Derald Syverson, who survives at home. She is survived by a son, Bobby Gunderson, and two grandchildren. Three sisters survive: Mrs. Roger (Jo Linda) Park, Janette Gibbons and Georgia Ruth Brumbaugh, all of Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward "Tex" Evans, and her baby sister, Georgia. Mrs. Syverson was reared in Mount Union and graduated in 1964 from Captain Jack High School. She entered the United States Army in 1966, and was honorably discharged three years later in 1969. She was born Aug. 14, 1931, in Williamsburg, a daughter of the late Albert and Cora (Horton) Frye. She was united in marriage to Charles L. Ginter Feb. 2, 1952, in Winchester, Va. She is survived by her husband, at home; Four sons: Roger W. Ginter of Martinsburg; Charles D. Ginter of Williamsburg; Thomas S. Ginter of Altoona, and Michael B. She attended Williamsburg area schools and retired as a packer from the former Butterick Co. Inc., Altoona, in 1993, after 41 years of service. SMITH, 67, of HCR 60, Orbisonia, died at 3 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born June 6, 1934, in Lewistown, he was the son of Ellsworth E. and June (Yoder) Smith, both deceased. He was united in marriage to Nancy Steninger Oct. 14, 1961. He is survived by his wife,at home; two daughters, Bethany A. Smith of Alameda, Calif., and Rebecca R. Postlewaite of Cochranton, and one son, Matthew Scott Smith of Lewistown. During his enlistment, he was stationed in Korea and was discharged as a specialist 4th class. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and in 1992, he retired from Standard Steel, Burnham, as a payroll accountant, after 26 years of service. In earlier years, he worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Highways, Highspire, as a computer programmer. An accomplished pianist, Mr. Smith played for the Alfarata Men's Chorus for 10 years. HOMAN, 101, of Bellefonte, formerly of State College, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Centre Crest Nursing Home, Bellefonte. Born May 20, 1901, in Linden Hall, she was the daughter of the late William C. and Armadia (Markle) Raymond. She married George Lesher Homan Nov. 9, 1921. Mr. Homan preceded her in death April 15, 1952. She is survived by a daughter, Jean E. Confer of Bellefonte, as well as seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren, many of whom survive in Huntingdon County. She was preceded in death by a sister. Born Sept. 11, 1942, in Saxton, she was the daughter of Mary Catherine Foor, who survives in Saxton, and the late Charles Foor. She is survived by four children, Estelle M. Myers and Laurie L. Foster, both of Houstontown, Ernest J. King of Everett and Teresa R. Wycha of Chambersburg. Five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive. Margaret Jane FADDIS, 82, of Millerstown, Tuscarora Twp., died at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at her daughter's residence in Alexandria, Porter Twp., where she had been residing since February after moving from her Perry County home. Born April 7, 1920, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Catherine (Hutchinson) Walton. She was married to Elwood D. Faddis April 13, 1940, in Leesburg, Va., at the parsonage of the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Cawkins officiating. Mr. Faddis survives at their Millerstown residence. She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. David (Mary Jane) Frees Jr., Phoenixville, and Mrs. Charles W. (Linda F.) Weko Jr., Alexandria. Five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren survive. STANEK JR. 30, of 461 Hollow Rd., New Providence, died early Sunday morning, May 26, 2002, from multiple traumatic injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. Born in Lancaster, her was the son to Richard M. Sr. and Michele L. (Smith) Stanek. He is survived by his parents, of Lancaster; his paternal grandmother, Ruth M. Stanek of Orbisonia, and a maternal grandmother, Geraldine L. Sides of Leola. A sister, Mrs. Kevin S. (Teresa M.) Strubel, and a brother, David C. Stanek, both of Lancaster, survive. Matthews in 1934 and then to Charles Helsel in 1948, both of whom preceded her in death. Her son, Gary R. Matthews of Huntingdon, and two daughters, Barbara K. Freeberg, Huntingdon, and Valerie A. Swanger, Mill Creek, survive. There are four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. One great-granddaughter, Jamie Matthews, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Lex Rohland and an infant sibling. Mrs. Helsel was a member of the 12th Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. She was educated in the public schools of Huntingdon and graduated from Huntingdon High School, Class of 1932. Mrs. Helsel was employed at the former Huntingdon Silk Mill and was a waitress at the former Mark's Cafe in Huntingdon. From 1950 to 1981, she was the owner/operator of Tops Diner along Route 22 near Mill Creek. She enjoyed reading and needlework. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 31, at the John B. Margaret "Peggy" HICKS, 56, a resident of William Penn Nursing Center, Lewistown, formerly of Allenport, died at 11:07 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2002, at the nursing center. She had been in failing health. Born April 5, 1946, in Trenton, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret (Whittaker) Harpster. She was united in marriage to Thomas S. Hicks June 5, 1965. Mr. Hicks preceded her in death May 18, 1999. Three daughters and a son survive: Mrs. John (Trina) Benson, Mapleton; Debbie Long, Hutchinson, Kan.; Donna Hicks, Lewistown; and Thomas R. Hicks, Yeagertown. Seven grandchildren survive. A sister, Mrs. Donald (Barbara) Lancaster of Mount Union survives. Mrs. Hicks was of the Protestant faith. She was a 1964 graduate of Captain Jack High School, Mount Union. Beryl Eileen CRESSMAN, 89, of Waldorf, Md., formerly of Washingdon, D.C., died May 28, 2002, at Genisis Elder Card, La Plata, Md. Born July 4, 1912, in Newton Hamilton, she was the daughter of the late Homer William and Catherine Estella (Strauss) Watts. Two children survive: Mary Wilmoth, Waldorf, Md., and Martin Chemnitz Cressman Jr., Port Charlotte, Fla., as well as four grandchildren. She worked as manager in real estate. GARLOCK, SR., 56, of Mapleton, died at 10:42 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, in the emergency room of J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Nov. 19, 1945, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Seabert and Mary (Shives) Garlock. He was united in marriage in Georgia E. Payne Nov. 19, 1964, in Huntingdon. Mrs. Garlock survives at their home. He is survived by four children: Tammy A. Garlock, Debary , Fla.; Terry R. Garlock Jr., Duncannon; Teresa L. Laird, Huntingdon; and Trudy E. Smith, Mapleton. Six grandchildren survive. Three sisters and four brothers survive: Pearl Irby, Cassville; William Garlick, Mount Union; Barbara McCartney, Huntingdon; Robert Garlock, Three Springs; and Dorothea Williamson, Allen Garlock and James Garlock, all of Mapleton. A grandson, George Kelly, and a brother, Ronald Garlock, preceded him in death. Mr. Garlock was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of the Home Association of Mapleton American Legion Post 322, the Mapleton Sportsmen's Club and the Mill Creek Volunteer Fire Company Social Club. He had worked in construction for various contractors and was also a self-employed auto mechanic. He had done logging in his earlier years. MILLER, 95, formerly of Mount Union, died at 5:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon, where he had been a resident for almost two years. He had been in failing health. Born Jan. 17, 1907, in Allenport, he was the son of the late George T. and Mary Catherine (Sechrist) Miller. He was married to Gladys Anna (Miller) Miller Feb. 10, 1940, in Winchester, Va. Mrs. Miller preceded him in death Aug. 13, 2000. A son, Douglas D. Miller of Andover, N.Y., survives. Eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren survive. He is survived by a sister, Madelyn Dinardi of Kistler, Mount Union. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Horne, on April 24, 2001, and the following brothers and sisters, George Miller, Lewis D. Miller, Cloyd Miller, Susan Miller and Virginia Heidel. Mr. Miller was of the Protestant faith. He was employed for 49 years at the North American Refractories in Mount Union. He loved gardening and was a self-taught mechanic and carpenter. Archie Edward MCCARDLE JR., 58, of Mount Union, died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born April 28, 1944, in Lewistown, he was the son of Verna C. (Jenkins) McCardle of Three Springs, and Archie Edward McCardle Sr., who preceded him in death. He is survived by a companion, Annabell Brant of Mount Union. A sister and a brother survive: Margaret A. McCardle, Three Springs, and Richard V. McCardle, Marathon, Fla. Mr. McCardle was of the Christian and Missionary Alliance faith. He was a member of the Mount Union VFW and the Mount Union Sons of Italy. He worked as a farm laborer for a number of years for the Mitchell and Armor family farms at Mount Union. Interment will be made in Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg. Roger W. GUINESS, 52, Robertsdale, died at 9 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, at the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Death was unexpected. Born Dec. 13, 1949, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late John and Isabelle (Drenning) Guiness. Surviving are the following brothers and sisters; Anna Swope, South Bound Brook, N.J.; Donna Chamberlain, Robertsdale; Carole Wright, Robertsdale; Yolanda Ritchey, Broad Top city; Helen Sevrin, West Palm Beach, Fla.; Jan Dardar, Leesburg, Va.; Marlene Burkholder, State Line; and Ronald Drenning, Aruba. He is also survived by 21 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great- nephews. Mr. Guiness attended the Robertsdale Church of God. He served in the Vietnam War in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1974 on the USS Inchon as a radar specialist. He was a graduate of Tussey Mountain High School and had worked as a laborer at Ethicon in New Jersey. Mr. Guiness, during his lifetime, enjoyed music, hunting and also he loved to sing. HARKER, 81, formerly of Stone Creek Ridge and DeForrest Apartments, Huntingdon, died at 1:37 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon. Born Jan. 9, 1921, in Tyrone, she was the daughter of the late Edward O. and Gertrude (Shay) Johnston. She married Fay T. Harker Feb. 26, 1940, in Tyrone. Mr. Harker preceded her in death Aug. Aug. 28, 2000. She is survived by the following children, Ray E. Harker, Trona, Calif.; Fay T. Harker Jr., Ridgecrest, Calif.; Paul Richard Harker, Griffin, Ga.; Mrs. Gene (Helen) Henry, Mill Creek; and David L. Harker, Alexandria. Also surviving are one brother, Lorain E. Johnston, Lake Placid, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Terry Lee Harker in 1985; sisters Ruth Hain, Mertie Swetzer, and Adaline G. Born May 27, 1934, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Harry H. "Buzz" and Nellie (Kershaw) Miller. She was married to Joseph E. Norris Dec. 1, 1951, in Altoona. Surviving are her husband, at their home; three sons, Steven J. Norris, Warren; James P. Norris, Frederick, Md.; and Thomas H. Norris, Littleton, Colo.; one sister, Marcelene Davis, Perrysburg, Ohio; seven grandchildren and David L. Coffman, Huntingdon, who was reared in the Norris Home. She was preceded in death by one sister, Constance G. Grove. Mrs. Norris, a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. GUTSHALL, 88, of 360 Westminster Dr., Huntingdon, formerly of 1027 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, died at 12:10 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Nov. 30, 1913, in Rockhill Furnace, she was the daughter of Warren and Mary Ellen (Hollibaugh) Lane, both of whom preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to James W. Gutshall Dec. 31, 1937, in Alexandria. Mr. Gutshall preceded her in death Oct. 31, 1978. She is survived by a son, Donald L. Gutshall of Huntingdon; a daughter, Judy K. Fleming of Huntingdon. as well as seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James W. Gutshall, in 1962, and by her only brother, Leroy "Preacher" Lane. Mrs. Gutshall was a member of the 15st St. United Methodist Church in Huntingdon. She taught the Wesleyan Crusaders Sunday School Class. She was a graduate of Orbisonia High School, Class of 1932, and began nurse's training in 1932, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, graduating as a registered nurse in 1935. In 1933, she received specialized training in pediatrics in Children's Hospital in Philadelphia. From 1936 to 1937, she was employed at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, in New York City. In 1962, she worked at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. Mrs. Gutshall returned to Huntingdon County and worked as a registered nurse in the maternity department at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. Death was unexpected. Born Jan. 13, 1943, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Francis (Roddey) Hite. She was married to Donald C. Watson April 22, 1990, at the United Methodist Church, Kylertown, with the Rev. Ashley Horner officiating. Surviving are her husband, at their home; three daughters, Mrs. Roy (Kathy J. ) McCabe, McConnellstown; Mrs. George (Trudy R.) Pechin, Frederick, Del.; and Mrs. Frank (Deb S.) Johnston, Huntingdon; three sons, Gail L. Miller, Huntingdon; Frank M. Miller, Huntingdon; and Jerry R. Miller, Huntingdon. she is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Chet (Sondra) Fornwalt, Covington, Va., and 19 grandchildren. Mrs. Watson was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Hesston. A self-employed beautician, she graduated in 1960 from Huntingdon High School. A lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, she had been at her Penn Twp. home for 12 years. Interment will be made in Anderson Cemetery, Penn Twp. Sara Ella (Enyeart) AURANT, 61, of Jerusalem, Israel, died at 8 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2002, in Jerusalem, Israel, following a brief illness. Born July 2, 1940, in Williamsburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry Granville and Rella (Stouteagle) Enyeart. She was previously married to Walter R. Aurant, who resides in Rockhill Furnace. A daughter and two sons survive: Dianna (Aurant) Frazor, Dublin, Texas; Jacup "Gene" Aurant, Saxton; and Lawrence "Larry" Aurant, Huntingdon. Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive. She was survived by three sisters: Evelyn Enyeart) Franklin, Newville; Naomi (Enyeart) Ramp, Shermansdale; and Reba (Enyeart) Barrick, Carlisle. She was preceded in death by five sisters and six brothers: Ida Rife, Louella Brantner, Mamie Fisher, Bessie Helzel, Minnie Rentz, and George Harvey, Howard Lee, William Perry, David Alexander, Thomas Harrrison and Charles Franklin Enyeart. Ms. Aurant previously worked at Arrow Shirt Co., Petersburg Manufacturing Co., and had sold insurance for Banker Life and Casualty Insurance Company. While living in Jerusalem, she worked in the field of archeology. She traveled extensively in Europe, the Middle East, the United States and most recently had visited Turkey. she enjoyed writing, photography and mostly her grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, 1106 Mifflin St., Huntingdon. Interment was made in Jerusalem, Israel, June 7.
