We encourage links to the state and county table of contents. ____________________________________________________________ Ann Maria (Diehm) NEWCOMBE, 81, of 18 West Corydon St., Bradford, died at 5:17 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2003, at the residence where she had lived since 1972. Born March 3, 1922, in Boardman, Ohio, she was the daughter of Edgar Graybill and Maude (Hertzler) Diehm, who preceded her in death. She was married to Robert Anthony Newcombe Nov. 4, 1942, in Nashville, Tenn., by the Rev. Caldwell. He survives at their home. Mrs. Newcombe is survived by one daughter, Mrs. David C. (Barbara Ann Newcombe) Gumpper of Mount Bethel. Five sons also survive. They are: David A. Newcombe and wife Pat Gregson of Ferrum, Va.; Robert D. Newcombe of Butler; John W. Newcombe and Joseph M. Newcombe, both of Bradford; and Thomas I. Newcombe and wife, Deborah (Myers), of Titusville. Mrs. Newcombe is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Leah and Paul Gumpper, Meghan McCauley, and Dustin, Katharine, Cory, Michael, Ashley, Beth, Andrew and David Newcombe. A brother, William H. Diehm of Poland, Ohio, and a sister, Mary Jane Coffman, of Baltimore, Md., also survive. She was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Diehm. Mrs. Newcombe was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bradford and was a 25-year member of the church choir. She was also a member of the Silver Link Society and the Women's Circle. She was an active member of the Lycoming College and Juniata College Wives Association during her husband's tenure with those institutions. She was active in the work of the church and a staunch supporter of her husband's work. She also enjoyed the Bradford community, volunteering for the American Cancer Society and the Republican Committee. Mrs. Newcombe attended the public schools of Boardman and Youngstown, Ohio. She graduated from South High School in Youngstown with the class of 1940. She attended Juniata College in Huntingdon. A graveside service will be held in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Twp., Monday, May 5, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard E. Gardiner officiating. Interment will follow the services. Eleanor G. HOUCK, 84, died at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, where she had resided the past five years. Born June 27, 1918, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Ruth (Boring) Lott. She was married to Howard Porter Houck. Mr. Houck preceded her in death of 1993. She is survived by four children: George H. Houck, Huntingdon; Mrs. James (Judy) Stratton, Huntingdon; William T. Houck, Wayne; and Robert F. Houck, Hanover, Md. There are 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Gary D. Houck, and one grandson, Jeffrey Houck. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Lott. Mrs. Houck was a member of Ardenheim Independent Church of the Brethren, Huntingdon. She was employed by J.C. Blair Company of Huntingdon and its successor, Mead Corp., Alexandria, retiring in 1976. Following her retirement, she and her husband moved to New Port Richey, Fla., where she resided for 20 years. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Myers Kimmel officiating. Interment will be made in Meadowlawn Memorial Gardens, New Port Richey. Robert Ambrose PETERS SR., 82, of Petersburg, died Friday evening May 2, 2003, in Jackson Twp, Huntingdon County, as a result of an accident. Born July 17, 1920, in Miller Twp, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Vernney H. and Mary L. (Wagner) Peters. He was united in marriage to the former Gertrude M. Bumbarger April 30, 1940, in Williamsburg, by the Rev. Jacob E. Brenneman. Mrs. Peters survives at their home. Three children survive: Mrs. Richard (Mary O.) Ayers, Petersburg: Vernney R. Peters, Huntingdon; and Robert A. Peters Jr., Huntingdon. There are seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One sister, Ruth Witzel of Smyrna, Del., survives. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Terry R. Peters; one sister, Irene Whitsel; and two brothers, Franklin and Herbert. Mr. Peters was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Manor Hill. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing on the Shavers Creek Valley team of the Tri-County Baseball League. A world War II Veteran, he served in the U.S. Army with Battery A -- 460th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion in the European Theatre. He was self-employed in logging, and later, excavating throughout Huntingdon County. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, at Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, 1106 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, with the Rev. Shirley J. Russell officiating. Interment will be made in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville. JoAnn KEITH, 53, of McVeytown, died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2003, at her home in Wayne Twp., Mifflin County. Born Sept. 2, 1949, in McConnellsburg, she was a daughter of the late Ira and Eureka (Strait) Bain. She was married to Dennis L. "Peachey" Keith June 18, 1993, in Mount Union. Mr. Keith survives at their home. She is survived by one son and one daughter: Michael Englert and wife, Kim, of Charleston, S.C., and Mrs. Myron (Donna) Hall of Knobsville. One step-daughter and one step-son survive: Lori A. Hughes, Mount Joy, and Quentin L. Keith, Mountville. There are five grandchildren. Three sisters and one brother survive: Mrs. John (Edna) Demint, Clarksburg, Md.; Mrs. Blair (Helen) Hann, Needmore; George Gain, Big Cove Tannery; and Mrs. Michael (Sara Kaye) Helman, Burnt Cabins. One brother, Ira "Jim" Bain, and two sisters, Mary Jane Slee and Nancy Hoffman, are deceased. Mrs. Keith attended Beavertown Bible Church, Todd. She was a member of the McConnellsburg Vol Fire Co. where she was an EMT, and a member of the Auxiliary to American Legion Post No. 561, McConnellsburg. A graduate of McConnellsburg High School, she had been employed at the Fulton County National Bank, McConnellsburg, for five and one-half years, then at the IGA/BiLo, McConnellsburg, for 23 years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at the Beavertown Bible Church, Todd, with the Rev. James S. Thomas officiating. Donald Stephen "Don-Don" HOLLINGSHEAD, 6, of Smithfield Twp., Huntingdon, died at 12:13 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2003, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona. Born Feb. 27, 1997, in Huntingdon, he was the son of Donald Eugene Hollingshead Jr. and Francine Kay (Brown) Hollingshead. He is survived by his mother and her companion, Harry L. Smith Jr., of Huntingdon; and his father and stepmother, Nichole D. (Stimely) Hollingshead, of Mount Union. Three sisters survive, Courtney N. Brenneman of James Creek, and Chelsea Kay Brown and Lauren Dawn Hollingshead, both of Huntingdon. He is also survived by his grandparents: Stephen and Kay Miller of Huntingdon; Robert and Kathy Hamilton of Hesston; Donald E. Sr. and Lisa Hollingshead of Windber; and John and Connie Stimely of Newton Hamilton. His great-grandparents survive: John and Star Jacobs, Hazel L. Morris and Beatrice L. Miller, all of Huntingdon, and Betty Bair of Johnstown. A number of aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. He was on Adelphia's Huntingdon Community Center Tee Ball team. He enjoyed fishing and riding his bicycle and dirt bikes. He also enjoyed racing at Hesston Speedway. His favorite drivers were Harry Smith Jr., No. 8, and Mike Duck, No. 73. He attended Southside Elementary School and was in the afternoon kindergarten class of Mrs. Goss. He also attended the morning daycare class of Mrs. Teeters at Huntingdon County Child and Adult Development, Smithfield Twp., Huntingdon. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Smithfield Twp., Huntingdon, with the Rev. James L. Blair officiating. Interment will be made in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Huntingdon. William Arthur DAVIS SR., 68, of Mifflintown, died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at his home, following a brief illness. Born June 1, 1934, in Siglerville, Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Randall Kenneth Myers and Emily Elizabeth (Ross) Davis. His wife of 49 years, Betty Lu (Hood) Davis, survives. He is also survived by children: Lisa A. Davis of Saltillo; William A. Davis Jr. and wife, Isabelle, of Palmer, Alaska; Mary Beth Houtz and husband, Chris, of Mifflintown; Tracy Davis and wife, Laurie, of Concord; and former daughter-in-law Carol (Hampton) Garner and husband, Fred, Huntingdon. Eight grandchildren survive: Janel, Amber, William III, Alex and Ross Davis, all of Alaska; Alisa and Ethan Houtz, both of Mifflintown; and Brittany Davis of Huntingdon. He is also survived by step-grandchildren: Terry Stephan and Randy Cain, both of Alaska; Jennifer Bruce of Shippensburg; and Kyle Bruce of Mifflintown. There are three step-great-grandchildren: Cody, Gage and Samantha, all of Alaska. A sister, Mrs. Norman (Sarah JoAnne) Hower of Thompsontown, survives. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Jeanne Landis, and by four brothers, Joseph Franklin Davis, and three who died in infancy, Randall Jr., Benjamin and Paul. He was a member of the Sand Spring Hunting Camp, the J.E. Bowen Post No. 122 AmVets of Thompsontown and the Millerstown Moose. He was also a volunteer for the Area Agency on Aging and participated in the Senior Games and for the last 25 years, helped with the Annual AmVets Children's Trout Derby. He was a former Democratic Committeeman for Walker Township. In recent years, he enjoyed being co-owner and captain of Camp Why Not? in Wharton Twp., Potter County. A 1952 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, he served as a mechanic in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956. He retired from his position as a nuclear certified welder and welding supervisor at Standard Steel in 1992. On occasion, in recent years, he had helped in Ralph Kepner's Welding Shop. He was currently serving on the Walker Twp. Planning Commission. A life-long athlete, he participated in the Tuesday Men's and Wednesday Mixed Leagues at Ney's Bowling Center and enjoyed spending time on the links with his son, Tracy, and friend and neighbor, Vern Varner. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Thomas John "Tommy" DIXON, 40, of Cider Press Road, Walker Twp., Huntingdon County, died at 5:12 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2003, in the emergency room at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash. His family says he died doing what he loved most, riding his Harley-Davidson. Born Sept. 3, 1962, in Huntingdon, he was the son of Dale Alan Dixon of Ardenheim and Marjorie Ellen (Huling) Dixon of Smithfield Twp. He is survived by his parents; his grandmother, Sara Elizabeth Huling of Smithfield Twp; a foster brother, David L. Leonard of Mount Union; a foster sister, Rocky Miller of Mount Union; and a half-brother, Vince Stevens of Huntingdon. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Thomas H. Huling. Mr. Dixon attended Emmanuel Bible Church and Spirit and Truth Worship Center. He was an avid biker and a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association, as well as a past member of ABATE. Mr. Dixon also held memberships with United Steel Workers of America Local No. 6521; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 223; and the home associations for both the American Legion Frank P. Hommon Post No. 24 and the Standing Stone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1754. Mr. Dixon was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and a resident of Walker Twp. since 1991. He graduated from Huntingdon Area High School in the Class of 1981. He had been employed by Bonney Forge as a machine set-up specialist. Mr. Dixon dearly loved spending time with his dog and best friend, Honey. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. Albert G. WERTZ, 72, of Williamsburg, died Sunday morning, May 4, 2003, at his home. He was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Altoona, the son of the late Edward Scott and Jennie M. (Devore) Wertz. He was united in marriage to Gladys R. Kruise Oct. 22, 1985, in Alexandria. He is survived by his wife at home; three sons: Louis Wertz at home, Albert Wertz of Duncansville and Thomas Wertz of Oklahoma; four daughters: Marsha Miller and Teresa Neuswanger of New Enterprise, Autumn Decker of Duncansville and Nicole Frye of Williamsburg; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Robert and William Wertz, survive. Mr. Wertz was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of the William P. Spyker American Legion Post, Alexandria; Williamsburg VFW: Petersburg Fire Hall and the National Rifle Association. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in Germany. He retired from the Fonda Group in Williamsburg in 1992 after 25 years of service. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, at the Bolger Funeral Home, Williamsburg, with Pastor Jeremiah Sassaman officiating. Interment will be made in New Canoe Creek Cemetery, Hollidaysburg. Florence B. STIFFLER, 96, formerly of Johnstown, died at 6:50 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2003, at Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, where she had been a resident since 1996. Born Oct. 21, 1906, in Bald Eagle, she was the daughter of the late John and Frances (Stimer) Gardner. She was united in marriage to Carlton C. Stiffler, who preceded her in death in 1961. She is survived by two daughters, Marian Brewton of Oakland, Md., and Dorothy Berry of Mount Union; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren and four step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, William and James, and a great-grandson. Mrs. Stiffler was a former member of the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting and gardening. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone, with Jerry Gardner and Pastor Jeff Winstead officiating. Interment will be made in Bald Eagle Cemetery. Brooks G. GOSHORN, 71, of Blairs Mills, died at 2:35 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2003, at Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, following an extended illness. Born Jan. 9, 1932, in Tell Twp., Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Raymond F. and Lena (Pyles) Goshorn. He was united in marriage to Evelyn J. Clayton July 23, 1955, in Richvale, by the Rev. William E. Brooks. He is survived by his wife at home; three children and their spouses: Frank B. Goshorn and his wife, Denise, of Blairs Mills; Deloris J. Patton and her husband, Daniel, of Greencastle; and Carl F. Goshorn and his wife, Karen, of Boiling Springs. Eight grandchildren survive: Brandon Goshorn, Adam Goshorn, Bethany Goshorn, Jonathan Howard, Robert Patton, Jennifer Patton, Hunter Goshorn and Onnika Goshorn. Two brothers, Clair W. Goshorn of Mifflin and William R. Goshorn of Blairs Mills, and two sisters, Pauline L. Clouser and Dorothy M. Burdge, both of East Waterford, survive. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Ronald Ray Goshorn. Mr. Goshorn was a member of the Richvale United Methodist Church for 62 years, serving as a trustee, lay leader, chairperson of the parsonage committee and as a men's Sunday School teacher. He was a former member of the Tuscarora Valley Grange No. 2042, 7th Degree Club, the Southern Huntingdon County Young Farmers, Southern Huntingdon County Booster Club, Blairs Mills Sportsman's Association, Shade Gap Volunteer Fire Company and Eastern Milk Producers. Mr. Goshorn was a 1949 graduate of Orbisonia High School. He was a lifelong dairy farmer in Shade Valley, Tell Twp. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2003, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Virginia Eminhizer officiating. Interment will be made in Shade Valley cemetery, Star Route, Blairs Mills. H. Thomas "Tom" PENNELL, 88, a resident of The Oaks at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon, formerly of Hesston, died at 7:25 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at The Oaks. He had been a resident of Westminster Woods since 1994, first at The Homestead, then The Oaks. Born Oct. 26, 1914, in Everett, he was the son of the late Harvey Thomas and Mary Grace (Eichelberger) Pennell. He was united in marriage to Ruth "Billie" Virginia Clegg Sept. 14, 1941, in Everett, after a one year courtship and two week engagement. His wife preceded him in death July 22, 1994. Mr. Pennell is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Nancy P.) Klein of Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Jack (Patricia "Patty" Ann) Reihart of Huntingdon. He is survived by five granddaughters: Wendy Klein of Chicago, III.; Kathy Klein of Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. Scott (Melissa) Miller of Buffalo, N.Y.; Jennifer Reihart of Harrisburg; and Betsy Reihart of Huntingdon. One great-granddaughter, Erin Miller of Buffalo, N.Y., Survives. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas John Pennell, Oct. 26, 1992, and a brother, Robert Pennell. Mr. Pennell was a member of Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Huntingdon. He was a member of the Bedford BPO Elks Lodge No. 1707 and the Rotary Club and was an active Shriner at the Jaffa Mosque in Altoona. He also served as a director and treasurer of the Bedford Branch of the Altoona Federal Savings and Loan Company, where he appraised property for loan applications. Mr. Pennell graduated from Everett High School in the Class of 1933, and attended Bowman's Technical School, Lancaster, for two years, graduating as a certified watch maker. He spent considerable time in the Everett jewelry store his uncle, James Defibaugh, operated and the experience set the direction for his life. He was initially employed for $35 per week at the Berman's Jewelry Store, Altoona, and after 18 months, changed his place of employment to Little's Jewelry Store, Cumberland, Md., until the outbreak of World War II. During the war, Mr. Pennell held a position at the Naval Observatory (now the official home of the vice president of the United States) in Washington, D.C., where he used his watch-making skills to produce precision chronometers in support of the war effort. He earned the rank of chronometer maker first class. After the war, Mr. Pennell returned to Little's Jewelry Store. He purchased the Cleaver Jewelry Store in Bedford in 1948 and had sole rights to sell class rings for Bedford High School, earning 50 cents per rings. He successfully operated the store with the help of his wife, Billie, until retiring in 1973. He was active in politics and community affairs in Bedford. He served two tearms as an elected official and treasurer of the Bedford School Board. He was running for these positions as a Republican the same time his father was running for councilman in Everett on the Democratic ticket. Mr. Pennell, along with some friends, helped form a hunting club called the Sons of Daniel Boone. As the Spruce Hole Hunting Club, they brought property in Clearfield County and built themselves a hunting cabin. Boating played a great part in Mr. Pennell's life. He enjoyed touring by boat around Raystown Lake where the former family cabin was located prior to the construction of Raystown Dam. During his youth, he was particulary interested in hunting, fishing and riding his bicycle around Bedford County. He once rode as far as Cumberland, Md. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 9, at Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas C. Coleman officiating. Interment will be made in Everett Cemetery, Everett. Betty Jane LANE, 77, of 308 Dean St., Williamsburg, died late Tuesday afternoon, May 6, 2003, at Bon Secours-Holy Family Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 10, 1925, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Dorothy G. (Streightiff) Howells. She was united in marriage to Ralph E. "Tub" Lane March 19, 1954, in Alexandria. She is survived by her husband; a son, Steven M. Lane of Williamsburg; a daughter, Dotty M. Hoffner of Williamsburg; and three grandchildren: Nicole R. Lane, Brandy M. Lane and Noah Lane Fagnano, all of the Williamsburg area. Mrs. Lane was of the Methodist faith. She was a 1944 graduate of Huntingdon High School. She was previously employed by Owens-Corning Fiberglas in Huntingdon and was primarily a homemaker. She enjoyed playing bingo, bowling and making crafts. Funeral services were to be held at noon today, May 8, at Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg, with Pastor Barry E. Neal officiating. Private interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. Katherine M. ROCKWELL, 93, of Luther Acres Manor, Lititz, died Tuesday morning, May 6, 2003, at the manor following an extended illness. A resident of Huntingdon for more than 50 years, she moved to Brethren Village in Lancaster in 1985, then to Luther Acres Manor in 2001. Born Sept. 18, 1909, in Hackensack, N.J., she was the only child of the late James D. and Ida May (Stetler) Haring. She was united in marriage to Donald M. Rockwell, PhD, former professor emeritus of chemistry and dean of academic affairs at Juniata College, July 19, 1933. Dr. Rockwell preceded her in death Oct. 8, 1983. She is survived by four children: Kenneth H. Rockwell and his wife, Mildred M., Huntingdon; Marian Haring Rockwell, Ambler; James A. Rockwell and his wife, Darla (Rosensteel), Lititz; and Susan Rockwell Coen and her husband, James K. Coen Jr., Colorado Spring, Colo. Eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Helen Rockwell Hayes of Ocala, Fla., survive. Mrs. Rockwell was a member of the Abbey Reformed Church-United Church of Christ, Huntingdon. She served as church treasurer, was a member of the Chancel Choir for a number of years and assisted with many of the church's educational and mission activities. She was active in the community, serving as a school board member, first on her township board for the township's one-room schools, then on the Huntingdon Area Joint Board, under which small local school districts were consolidated. She eventually held a position on the Pennsylvania State Board of Educators. Mrs. Rockwell was also a Cub Scout den mother, was a member of the Huntingdon branch of the American Association of University Women, the League of Women Voters, the Friends of the Juniata College Library, the former Women's League of Juniata College and the Huntingdon Music Club. She was a fine musician, playing cello in the Juniata College Orchestra and singing in various college and community choirs. She hosted a number of college events over the years and participated in many community activities. Mrs. Rockwell graduated magna Cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from, Mt. Holyoke College in 1929 and continued her graduated study in organic chemistry at Yale University. There, she was awarded the Sterling Prize for distinguished graduate study, met her future husband and completed her PhD degree in 1932. Following the receipt of her degree, Mrs. Rockwell was a member of the chemistry faculty at the University of Delaware for one year prior to her marriage and move to Huntingdon. At Juniata College, she taught chemistry classes to home economics students and supervised chemistry labs. She was a long-time instructor in the Freshman English Conference Program. After retiring from active teaching, she volunteered in the college library, where her interest in the college's rare book collection led to the first intensive effort to conserve, organize, catalog and display this important resource. An avid reader, Mrs. Rockwell also enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, and filled her quieter hours with knitting, needlepoint, sewing and crocheting. She and her late husband traveled extensively throughout the United States and, in there younger years, they loved to go camping. A memorial service will be held at a time and place. Omena Jane Parson SHEEDER, 71, of Spring Run, died at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at her residence. She was born Dec. 5, 1931, in Three Springs, the daughter of the late Roy M. Sr. and Rebecca E. (Meck) O'Donnell. She was united in marriage to Jack M. Sheeder Sept. 24, 1966. She is survived by her husband at home and by seven children: Mrs. Joe (Judy) Myers of Saltillo; Mrs. Doug (Joyce) Cobern of Greencastle; Dena Hockenberry and her companion, Robert Geyer, both of Chambersburg; Brett Sheeder and his wife, Mildred, of Greencastle; Tim Sheeder and his wife, Cindy, of Greencastle; Mrs. Chris (Helen) Burger of Mercersburg; and Mrs. George (Samantha) Stiffler of Fayetteville. She is survived by 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. A brother, Richard O'Donnell and his wife, Lois , of Dry Ron; and two sisters, Mrs. Orville (Lula) Parson and Mrs. Carl (Faye) Peterson, both of Spring Run, survive. Mrs. Sheeder was preceded in death by her first husband, Jacob M. Parson, May 11, 1965; a grandson, Daniel Hammond; a granddaughter, Stacey Myers; son-in-law, Barry Hockenberry; four sisters; and five brothers. Mrs Sheeder was a member of Spring Run Bible Church, Spring Run. She was a homemaker and had been employed at the former Stanley Clothing Company, Chambersburg, and the Day Home in Dry Run. Jerry Thomas CHANEY, 61, of Petersburg, died at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at his daughter's residence in Oneida Twp. He was born Nov. 9, 1941, in Hopewell, the son of the late James and Ellen (Hughes) Chaney. He is survived by four daughters and a son: Shelby Chaney and James Christopher Chaney, both of Mount Union; Gerrie Chaney of Huntingdon, Salona Chaney of Petersburg and Teresa Chaney of Barree. There are four granddaughters and three grandsons: Mackenzie Chaney, Maddison Beasom and Thomas Chaney, all of Huntingdon; Caydee Chaney of Robertsdale; Joshua Chaney of Petersburg; and Justin Chaney and Devon Copenhaver, both of Mount Union. Three sisters survive: Laverne Baughman of Waterfall, Joyce Buckley of Michigan and Almeda Garber, also of Waterfall. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob Chaney, and two brothers, Wilmer Chaney and Raymond Chaney. Mr. Chaney attended the Petersburg Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #223 and the Home Association of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1754, both of Huntingdon. He enjoyed fishing and playing pool. Mr. Chaney was employed by the Altoona Mirror to deliver bundled papers to the carriers and was previously employed by The Daily News in the same capacity, all for the past five years. Prior to that, he had been employed by various construction contractors. He had been a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and at his Petersburg home since 1989. Interment will be made in Hopewell Cemetery, Hopewell. Nancy Katharine (Douglass) WHITESEL, 54, of 1411 Oneida St., Huntingdon, died at 10:50 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2003, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born June 7, 1948, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Carl Blair and Anna Jean (Hawn) Douglass. She was united in marriage to Wayne Allen Whitesel Jan. 31, 1976, at the Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church, with the Rev. C. Rayvon Hilliard officiating. Mr. Whitesel survives at their residence. She is also survived by one son, David Wayne Whitesel, Stone Creek Ridge, Huntingdon. Two sisters survive: Mrs. Carl (Barbara J.) Albright, West Twp., Petersburg; Sally A. Swindell, wife of Pastor Kim Swindell, Martinsburg. One aunt, Mrs. Wesley (Katharine) Cramer of Huntingdon, survives. Mrs. Whitesel attended the Spirit and Truth Worship Center, Smithfield Twp, Huntingdon. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge No. 223 and the Home Association of Standing Stone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1754, both of Huntingdon. She graduated from Huntingdon Area High School with the Class of 1966 and from Altoona School of commerce in 1968, with a degree as a medical secretary. She later graduated first in her class, the first graduating class, of the Huntingdon County Vocational Technical School's Licensed Practical Nursing curriculum in 1985. For a long number of years she worked as a medical secretary and then as a LPN for numerous doctors' offices in Huntingdon. She had worked for Dr. Philip Dunn, Dr. Drew Stetz, Dr. Alan Strunk and most recently, Dr. A. Keith Sutton and Dr. Daniel Delp. She enjoyed crafts and crocheting, especially making afghans. She was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and had resided at her Oneida Street home since 1991. Interment will be made in Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery. Margareta (Hertwig) MOLT, 82, of Selb, Germany and Huntingdon, , died Friday, May 9, 2003, in Selb following an extended illness. Born in Selb, Oct. 18, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Rinesch) Hertwig. She was united in marriage to Kurt Ernst Hermann Molt July 4, 1942, in Berlin, Germany. Mr. Molt preceded her in death Dec. 14, 1978. One son, Volker K. Molt of Huntingdon, survives. She is survived by two grandchildren: Amanda Katharina Mhadhbi of Huntingdon and Carsten Molt of Pittsburgh; and one great-granddaughter, Amira Rose Mhadhbi. One brother and one sister survive: Hans Hertwig and Anni Wolrab, both of Selb. Mrs. Molt was a member of St. Andreas Evangelical Lutheran Church, Selb. She attended public schools in Selb and completed nursing school in Erlangen, Germany. She worked as a Registered Nurse in Nuernberg and Berlin, Germany, prior to her marriage in 1942. LENNING, 71, a resident of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home for the past seven years, formerly of McVeytown, died at 11:14 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2003, at Bon Secours-Holy Family UPMC Regional Health Center, Altoona. Born May 25, 1931, in Hollidaysburg, he was a son of the late Paul Lenning and Marian (Kelly) Zimmerman, who survives in Hollidaysburg. He was united in marriage to the former Evelyn H. Hockenberry Sept. 23, 1961. Mrs. Lenning preceded him in death June 14, 1996. Surviving are the following children: Darel Lenning and wife, Diane, Petersburg; Mrs. William (Robin) Nixon, Ashville; Cindy Keith, Altoona; Mrs. Wayne (Deenya) Everetts, McVeytown; and the Rev. Robert K. Lenning, Albuquerque, N.M. There are 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One sister and three brothers survive: Mrs. Charles (Carol) Fry, Danville; the Rev. William Zimmerman and wife, Sue, Altoona; James Zimmerman and wife, Beth, Hollidaysburg; and Gary Zimmerman and wife, Thelma, also of Hollidaysburg. Mr. Lenning was a member of McVeytown United Methodist Church, where he was a past trustee. He graduated from Hollidaysburg High School with the Class of 1949. During the Korean Conflict he was stationed with the U.S. Army in Germany. He worked as a switching technician for Bell Atlantic for 39 years, retiring in October 1995. He was a lifetime member of NRA and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, the outdoors and gardening. George Garland GLORE JR., 66, of Mount Union, passed away at 1:49 p.m. Firday, May 9, 2003, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born In Salem, Ky., July 28, 1936, he was a son of the late George Garland Sr. and Ethel (Minner) Glore. He was the husband of Carol (Backert) Glore. The couple had been married for 40 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons and four daughters: Timmy Glore, Indiana; Tammy Dement, Florida; Christina Seagraves, Oklahoma; Roseann Shope, Robertsdale; Robert Glore, Philadelphia; George Glore III, Mount Union; Carolann Kuklo, Riddlesburg; and Geoffrey L. McClain, Three Springs. He is survived by 13 grandchildren: Dustin Shope, Cassie Shope, Nichoal Shope, Melisha Hollibaugh, Christopher Seagraves, Robert Glore Jr., Gary Kuklo, Amber Kuklo, Thomas Seagraves, George Glore IV, Anna Kuklo, Tiffany Glore and Tony Glore. Two great-grandchildren survive: Geoffrey McClain and Allison McClain. He is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Polane of Orchard Park, N.Y., and one brother, Tom Murphy of Mayfield, Ky. He was preceded in death by eight sisters and three brothers. Mr. Glore was a member of Church of God in Kentucky. He was a member of the Robertsdale, Wood and Broad Top Fire Company, and a former member of the American Legion. He was in the Marines and the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a welder at Snyder Tank, Woodlawn, N.Y. He had also worked as a bricklayer. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool and watching Buffalo Bills football. Henry Allen "Al" FERNSLER SR., 60, of South Rio Grande Street, Three Springs, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2003, at his home. Born May 21, 1942, in Easton, he was a son of the late Henry A. and Ruth (Kishpaugh) Fernsler. He was married to the former Brenda Madden Oct. 7, 1983. Mrs. Fernsler survives at their home. He is survived by two sons and one daughter: Henry A. Fernsler Jr., Easton; and David A. Fernsler and Cheryl A. Dozier, both of Dover. Four stepchildren survive: Bonnie Lugo, Cindy Bobbit and Robert E. Lauver, all of Dover, and Michele Lauver Jamison, Columbia. There are seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. One sister, Elizabeth Utter of Easton, survives. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Charles. Mr. Fernsler was of the Protestant faith. He was a life member of Blue Juniata VFW Post 5754, Mount Union. He retired as a master sergeant, grade E-8, from the U.S. Army serving 22 years from 1960-1982 and having served in Korea and Okinawa. Anne (Noble) HAGIE, 80, a resident of the Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, formerly of Orbisonia, died at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2003, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg. Born June 18, 1922, in Orbisonia, she was the daughter of the late Luther E. and Grace (Repper) Noble. She was married to Thomas M. Hagie Dec. 27, 1941, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Mount Union. Mr. Hagie preceded her in death Dec. 25, 1990. She is survived by one son and two daughters: Thomas Hagie, Orbisonia; Mrs. Richard (Susan) Crouse, Biglerville; and Mrs. Dell (Ellen) Lane, Raleigh, N.C. There are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Richard E. Hagie, and one brother, Edmund Noble. Mrs. Hagie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Shade Gap. She was a member of the National Association of Dental Assistants and a member of the auxiliary to Madden-Wennick Post 518, American Legion, Rockhill Furnace. She attended the Lewistown School of Nursing and worked as a dental assistant to De. Radford Locke for 25 years prior to her retirement. An especially important part of her life was serving as a volunteer at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, for ten years after her husband's death. Committal will be made in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Shirleysburg. Marvin L. BANKS, 72, of Mill Creek, died at 4:52, a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2003, at J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He had been ill for the past few years. Born July 10, 1930, in Mount Union, he was a son of the late Roy and Grace (Wileman) Banks. He was married to the former Jeanette M. Estep Jan. 10, 1952, in Virginia. Mrs. Banks survives at their home. Three daughters and five sons survive: Linda Reeder, Huntingdon; Kenneth Banks, Mill Creek; Doris Miller, Mount Airy, Md; Wilma Reeder, Mill Creek; Marvin M. Banks, Mapleton; Tim Banks, Milton, Fla.; Randy Banks, Mill Creek; and Clair Banks, Mill Creek. There are 25 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Two brothers survive: Dale Banks, Mill Creek, and Roy Banks, Huntingdon. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy L. Price, and two brothers, Duane Banks and Gary Banks. Mr. Banks was of the Protestant faith. He was a sawyer for over 40 years and was well-known throughout Huntingdon County by most loggers and lumbermen. Following his retirement from the lumber business in 1994, he still enjoyed making wood crafts at his Mill Creek Home. COOK, 87, of Riddlesburg, formerly of Mount Union, died at 6:25 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2003, in the emergency room of UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital, Bedford. She had been in failing health for the past month. Born May 6, 1916, in Knobsville, Fulton County, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Elizabeth (Mills) Cook. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John (Bona) Kuklo Riddlesburg. A granddaughter reared in the home, Tatjana Erwin, survives at the home. She is also survived by two others who were reared in the home: Edwin Harr of Fayetteville and Carolyn Vorndran of Altoona. There are two grandsons, two step-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. One sister, Maudlene Glunt of Burnt Cabins, survives. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeffrey Erwin, and two sisters, Susan Cook and Mildred Walker. Ms. Cook attended the Assembly of God, Mount Union, and the Riddlesburg Bible Church, Riddleburg. She retired in 1978 after 17 years employment at the former Robin Footwear, Mount Union. She enjoyed reading, canning and flower gardening. Interment, at the convenience of the family, will be made in Fair Ridge Cemetery, Shade Gap. Maude H. Lamb MARSHALL, 78, formerly of 617 N. Division St., Mount Union, died Sunday morning, May 11, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Jennie Miller, Duncansville, with whom she resided. Born Dec. 3, 1924, in Mount Union, she was a daughter of the late Leroy C. and Catherine H. (Smith) House. She was united in marriage to Henry Marshall Nov. 5, 1986. Mr. Marshall preceded her in death. She is survived by the following children: David E. Walker and wife, Geraldine, Harrisburg; Jacqueline Darringotn, Newburg, N.Y.; Joseph N. Lamb, Harrisburg; Jennie Lamb Miller and husband, Dennis, Duncansville; Steven H. Lamb and wife, Hazel, Abilene, Texas; and step-daughter, Jewel McMickens, Huntingdon. there are ten grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren survive. One sister, Margaretta Hewitt of Altoona, survives. She was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: Margorie Clay, Dorothy Mae House, Jennie Lewis, Anna Stephens, William Anderson, Leroy House and Edward House. Mrs. Marshall was a member of Bethel AME Church, Mount Union. She was a member of Pochahontas Temple No. 719, Mount Union. For eight years, she had worked at both the former Genesco Sewing Factory and the former Mount Union Sportswear, both of Mount Union. Most recently, she was employed as crossing guard for the Mount Union Area High School. DIFIBAUGH, 65, of Coldwater Road, Wells Tannery, died at 1:20 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2003, at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital, Everett. Born Oct. 8, 1937, in Everett, he was the son of the late Martin A. and Catherine Ruth (Tinley) Defibaugh. He was married to the former Edena M. Kanouff July 2, 1956, at Cumberland, Md. Mrs. Defibaugh survives at their home. He is survived by one daughter and one son: Debbie Kay Gorman, Mount Holly, N.J., and Terry Lee Defibaugh, Wells Tannery. There are six grandchildren. One brother and one sister survive: Allen A. Defibaugh, Everett; and Shirley Ann Reinhard, Green Bay, Wis. One daughter, Cathy Ann Gelvin, preceded him in death. Mr. Defibaugh was a member of the Dublin Mills Community Church, Hustontown. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Bedford and a member of the Greencastle Sportsmen's Association. He was a member of AFSCME Local No. 2246 which he had served as secretary for a number of years. He was a 1955 graduate of Everett High School. In 2000 he retired from PennDOT as a foreman after 29 and one-half years service, Prior to that he had worked on road construction as a heavy equipment operator and had been a truck driver. Interment will be made in Wells Valley EUB Cemetery, Wells Tannery. Randy Paul JOHNSON, 49, of 609 1/2 Spring St., Saxton, died Monday, May 12, 2003, at his home. Born Aug. 23, 1953, in Riddlesburg, he was a son of the late Charles Albert Johnson and Phyllis Mae (Barnett) Buckley of Saxton. He is survived by one son, Eric Albert Johnson of Saxton. Six brothers survive: Charles Dale Johnson, Downingtown; Dennis Johnson, Maryland; Timothy Johnson, Seattle, Wash.; Larry Johnson, North Carolina; and Scott Johnson and Dwayne Johnson, both of Downingtown. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Saxton VFW, Broad Top American Legion and Saxton Sportsmen's Association. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Dec. 23, 1974, as a private first class. FORD, 84, formerly of Mapleton, died Monday, May 12, 2003, at Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon, where she had resided for the past two and one-half years. Born Jan. 14, 1919, in Tyrone, she was a daughter of the late James and Emma Hefright. She is survived by four sons: Thomas Bookwalter, Mapleton; William "Kink" Bookwalter, Mill Creek; and Richard Bookwalter and Ralph Bookwalter, both of Mapleton. There are 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Margie Bookwalter; one son, James Bookwalter; and one grandson, Ralph Bookwalter Jr. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Ford was of the Protestant faith. She worked at the former Susquehanna Silk Mill and then its successor, Owens Corning Fiberglas, Huntingdon, in the twist and ply department, retiring in 1975 with 32 years service. Interment will be made in the IOOF Cemetery, Mapleton. Eva Pauline DECKER, 76, of 11 S. Jones St., Lock Haven, died at 2:11 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2003, at Geissinger Medical Center, Danville. Born Sept. 26, 1926, in McAlevys Fort, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur and Mary (Whitesel) Lightner. She was united in marriage to Nevin E. Decker March 31, 1947, in McAlevys Fort. Mr. Decker preceded her in death Aug. 17, 1999. She is survived by one daughter, Katherine Darlene Tucker of Shelbina, Mo. There are two granddaughters and a number of great-grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother survive: Elsie Scott, Petersburg; Grace Zimmerman, Duncansville; and Thomas Lightner, Huntingdon. Mrs. Decker was of the Protestant faith. Jean COWPER, 80, Martinsville, Ind., died at 7:49 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at Bloomington Hospital, Bloomington, Ind. Born Nov. 6, 1922, in Morgantown, Ind., she was a daughter of the late Monte and Ruth (Gregg) Brown. She was married to Thomas Rohland Dec. 23, 1943. He preceded her in death in January 1987. She then married Norman Cowper Oct. 8, 1988. Mr. Cowper survives in Martinsville. She is survived by three sons: Kenneth R. Rohland and Gary D. Rohland, both of Martinsville, and Gregg Rohland of Paragon, Ind.; one stepson, Mike Cowper of Mooresville, Ind.; two daughters, Carol Farrell, Paragon, and Connie Skinner, Gosport, Ind.; and one step-daughter, Pam Cowper, Martinsville. There are eight grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister: Harry Brown, Floyd Brown and Betty Wayman. Mrs. Cowper was a member of Paragon Baptist Church, Paragon, Ind. She was a member of the Hoosier Mets "Nash Metropolitan Car Club. A teller at Indiana Bank & Trust, Paragon, for 18 years, she retired in 1983. She enjoyed her family, flea markets, gardening and her antique car. Interment will be made in Friendship Park Cemetery, Paragon. Richard A. BIGELOW, 44, of Dippy Acres Farm, Williamsburg, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, May 16, 2003, at his farm from injuries sustained in a farming accident. Born Aug. 1, 1958, in Altoona, he was a son of William M. and H. June (Smith) Bigelow. His father preceded him in death May 10, 1992. His mother survives at Williamsburg. He married the former Cindy D. Brumbaugh June 12, 1982, at Williamsburg. She survives at their home. He is survived by two daughters and one son: Diana M. Bigelow, Tracy L. Bigelow, and Wayne R. Bigelow, all at home. Two brothers and one sister survive: William R. Bigelow, Williamsburg; David A. Bigelow, Williamsburg; and Jenny S. Plummer, Friedens. Mr. Bigelow was a member of the Fairview Church of the Brethren. Williamsburg, where he was a member of the Sunshine Sunday School class, served as a deacon and was chairman of the Witness Commission of the church board. He had currently been a director for Valley Royal Electric Co-op, Huntingdon; and the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau (Blair County); a member of Land-O-Lakes Co-op, Genex Co-op, Agway and the Pennsylvania Holstein Association and assisted the Williamsburg Farm Show Association. He was a former member and president of the Williamsburg High School FFA chapter. He was a former member of the Williamsburg Young Farmers and the Blair County 4-H Baby Beef Club. A 1976 graduate of Williamsburg High School, he received his milk testing training at the Pennsylvania State University. He was a DHIA (Dairy Herd Improvement Association) technician for the past 27 years and also was a dairy farmer for the past 24 years. Atherton St., State College, and a resident of Centre Crest Nursing Home, Bellefonte, for the past five years, died at 6 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2003, at Centre Crest following a lengthy illness. Born July 28, 1927, in Port Matilda, he was a son of the late Paul Gilbert and Elsie (Cowher) Woodring. He was united in marriage to the former Beverly D. Hunter Aug. 10, 1953, in Cumberland, Md. Mrs. Woodring survives. He is also survived by six children: Mrs. Fred (Jerri Lu) Hartman, State College; Jeffrey Woodring, Tyrone; Mrs. Jeff (Penny) Coup, Julian; C. Kay Nearhoof, Bellefonte; Mrs. Todd (Dawndra) Weston, Julian;and S. Kip Woodring, Tyrone. There are 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother survive: Jennie Coccia, Harrisburg; Shirley Hanscom, Tyrone; and Wilmer Woodring, Port Matilda. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law: Ruby, Betty and Esther Woodring, all of Port Matilda. He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers: Ardis Hagen, Evelyn Bracken, Dorothy Woodring, Stanley "John" Woodring, Gilbert Woodring and Paul Woodring Jr. Mr. Woodring was a longtime member of the Tyrone Christian and Missionary Alliance Church where he had been a Sunday School teacher, superintendent and a member of the board. He was active as a Boy Scout leader and was baseball manager for the Bald Eagle Little League and Teener League. He attended the Port Matilda Schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. A radio announcer, he worked for WTRN, WPHB and WKMC. He was the originator of Jerry Woodring and the Bald Eagle Ramblers music group. In March 1990 he retired after 12 years with Animal Medics Inc. of Manheim and had worked for 30 years selling medical supplies to farmers. He was formerly of Moore Street, Huntingdon, and James Creek. He had been in failing health for the past several years. Born May 9, 1914, in the former village of Graffton, Penn Twp., he was a son of the late Solomon and Margaret E. (Corcelius) Norris. He was married to the former Janet Bratton Sept. 1, 1939, in the parsonage of the First Methodist Church, Huntingdon. She preceded him in death March 30, 1965. He then married the former Minnie Pauline Grubb Dec. 17, 1966, at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Huntingdon. She preceded him in death July 22, 1986. He is survived by one stepson, Dennis William Smith, and one step-grandson, William Smith, along with several nieces and nephews. One son, Thomas Merle Norris Jr., died in infancy. He was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters: Miles Wesley Norris, Charles A. Norris, Dehaven W. Norris, Cora B. Fisher, Amy R. Norris, Elda M. Thompson, Carrie B. Rhodes, Della Norris and Dorothy Norris. Mr. Norris was a member of Jacob's Church, Hesston. He was a member of the Stone Creek Valley Lions Club. He attended the Upper Corner School in Penn Twp. Employed for 58 years, he first worked for Radiator Works, Huntingdon. He later worked for Gerlock Machine Shop and Sealtest, both in Huntingdon, and later retired from Baxter Machine Shop, Huntingdon, in 1998. Born Nov. 17, 1917, in Altoona, he was a son of the late Herbert and Ruth (Williams) Mateer. He was the husband of Ruth E. (Benson) Mateer. The couple had celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary March 14. Mrs. Mateer survives. He is also survived by two daughters and two sons: Sandra E. Mateer-Litwin and her husband, Robert Litwin, Mechanicsburg; Donna J. Cowan and her husband, Patrick, Neffsville; Lewis E. Mateer and his wife, Joyce, Lititz; and Allison E. Mateer and his wife, Katherine, Millersville. There are two grandchildren. A 1936 graduate of Belleville High School, he attended Stevens Trade School, Lancaster, where he studied carpentry. While at Stevens, he ran on the school track team and held school records over the years. Following his graduation from Stevens in 1938, he studied for two years at Penn State University, University Park. He was a member of the Stevens Trade Alumni Association. He had been a manager and shift supervisor in the press and shear areas at J.L. Clark Mfg., Lancaster, for 22 years, retiring in 1982. Prior to that, he worked as a tool and die maker for RCA Corp., Lancaster. He enjoyed reading Pennsylvania history, gardening and, in his younger years, hunting and wood-working. His death was unexpected. Born Aug. 13, 1911, in Ardenheim, he was a son of the late Ambrose and Elsie (Sechrist) Snyder. He was united in marriage to the former Lumerta Troy Aug. 7, 1937. Mrs. Snyder preceded him in death July 10, 1987. He is survived by one sister and one brother: Hazel E. Barltolet, State College; and Donald Snyder and his wife, Mary Jane, Tucson, Ariz. Three nieces and one nephew also survive: Susan Stanton, Silver Springs, Md.; Donna Stickley, Greenville, Ohio; Deborah Mastormatteo, State College; and Donald Snyder, Tucson, Ariz. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Snyder and Chester Snyder. Mr. Snyder was of the Methodist Faith. He was a life member of the Frank P. Hommon Post No. 24, American Legion, Huntingdon; Standing stone Post No. 1754, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Huntingdon; National Guard Veterans Association; Hefright Gun Club, Huntingdon; and the Robertsdale, Wood and Broad Top Fire Co. He was an honorary member of the Emerald and Newport fire companies and a member of the Williams Grove Steam Engine Association, Dillsburg. He attended Huntingdon Public schools and graduated from Huntingdon High School with the class of 1928. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army 119 and 130 Signal Radio Intelligence Co. as a master sergeant and served four and one-half years in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was awarded various medals, including a Bronze Star. Following World War II, he enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard 154 Transportation Battalion as a warrant officer class four and served 22 years in the National Guard. Following 35 years service with H.J. Williams Company, York, he retired as a heavy equipment master mechanic. He served as a Henderson Twp. supervisor for 22 years. CLIPPINGER, 69, of 21 Spring St., Robertsdale, died Wednesday May 21, 2003, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona. Born April 22, 1919, in Robertsdale, he was a son of the late Roy H. Sr. and Eva (Britten) Felten. He was united in marriage to the former Sara R. Mears May 15, 1940, in Dudley. Mrs. Felten survives at their home. He is also survived by one daughter, Mrs. Michael (Jamie F.) Ragland, Annapolis, Md. There are three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by two sisters and one brother: Eliza Park, Electa Mears and Fred Felten. "Jim" MORGAN SR., 65, of Mount Union, died Wednesday evening, May 21, 2003, at Shirleysburg, his late mother's home, following a brief illness. Born Feb. 7, 1938, in Shirley Twp., Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Ralph S. and Agnes Grace (Garver) Morgan. He was united in marriage to the former Loretta L. Snyder Aug. 16, 1957, at Singer's Gap United Methodist Church, Hill Valley. Mrs. Morgan survives at their home. Three sons and one daughter survive: Leon R. Morgan Jr., Mount Union; Ralph W. Morgan and his wife, Charlesetta, and Wendell R. Morgan and his wife, Tricia, all of Mount Union; and Amy J. (Morgan) Boozel and her husband, Marty, of Irvin Ridge, McVeytown. He was a member of the Class of 1955 of Mount Union High School. From 1970-1977, he owned and operated the former Phillips 66 Service Station, Mount Union. He had also worked at New Enterprise Stone and Lime and was a forest ranger for three years. Since 1970, he was also self-employed as the owner of Morgan's Excavating and farmed his entire life. Born Feb. 15, 1917, in Mount Union, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Flora (Cohenour) Booher. She was married to Melvin Clair Henry Feb. 1, 1941, in Hagerstown, Md. Born Aug. 11, 1924, in Tyrone, she was a daughter of the late Guyer and Stella Mae (Calderwood) Fields. She was united in marriage to Kermit W. Patterson April 26, 1944, in Franklinville. Mr. Patterson preceded her in death April 27, 1995. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Roger (Darlene K.) Paquette, Dover, Del.; and Mrs. Rick (Kathy I.) Hamer, Tyrone; one stepdaughter, Edith Keith, Birmingham; and one daughter-in-law, Susan F. (Thompson) Patterson, Alexandria. There are nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Terry L. Patterson, July 26, 1997; a brother, James Fields, and a sister, Betty Miller. Mrs. Patterson was an active and faithful member of the Spruce Creek United Methodist Church. She was also active in many activities at the Juniata Valley Senior Citizens Center. A 1942 graduate of the Scotland School, Scotland, Pa., she remained at the school to obtain a beautician's degree. she had worked for a long number of years at Big Yank Crop. clothing factory as a seamstress. She later worked at Dean Nelson's Children's Home and cooked for a number of years at Camp Kanesatake, both in Spruce Creek. She was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and the Spruce Creek area since 1968. She dearly loved her dog, Pixie, and was an avid fan of professional wrestling. Born In Hopewell June 2, 1920, he was the son of the late David and Mary (Miller) Lewis. He was married to C. Marie Grove in Kentucky Aug. 11, 1942. She preceded him in death July 11, 1994. Mr. Lewis is survived by three daughters and two sons: Sandy (Lewis) Klinsing of Winston Salem, N.C.; Janice (Lewis) Dick of Hesston; Judy (Lewis) McCrum of Mooresville; Terry L. Lewis of Piney Ridge, Huntingdon; and Steven Lewis of Hesston. He is survived by 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Born Aug. 9, 1933, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Lester J. and Inza (Rittenhouse) MacDonald. He was united in marriage to the former Melanie C. May March 1, 1975, in Huntingdon. Mrs. MacDonald survives at their home. He is also survived by four daughters and sons-in law and one son: Mrs. Paul (Christine Gilfillan) VanMeter, Reading; Mrs. Floyd (Lorraine MacDonald) Perry, VanCleave, Miss.; Mrs. Jay (Karen MacDonald) Cronfeld, Marlton, N.J.; Mrs. Karl (Elizabeth Gilfillan) Boone, Huntsville, Ala.; and Lester J. MacDonald, Clementon, N.J. There are four grandchildren, Jeromy, Jessica, Riley and Max; and one great-grandchild, Zane. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. G. Donald (Christel MacDonald) Fisher of Ponte Vedra, Fla. One Brother, William MacDonald, preceded him in death. Mr. MacDonald was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Huntingdon. He was past president of the Huntingdon Rotary Club and the Huntingdon Community Center. He was a former member of the Huntingdon Lions Club and was on the Huntingdon Board of Health. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He attended Huntingdon public schools and graduated from Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1951. He received a BS from Northwestern University in 1959. During the Korean Conflict he was a MASH surgical technician in the U.S. Army. Until 1986, he was the owner of MacDonald Moving and Storage, Huntingdon which was founded by his father. He was also the owner of MacDonald Asphalt Company, Huntingdon, until 1986. Since 1986, he has been the owner of On Hold Storage, Huntingdon. He enjoyed sailing on Raystown Lake and on the Chesapeake Bay. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and taking care of his cats. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. Joseph D. MOLONEY, M.D., 69, of 3232 Ridgeway Drive, Harrisburg, died Friday, May 23, 2003, at his home. He was a son of the late Vincent and Marguerite Moloney. He is survived by his wife, Lee C. Moloney, daughter of Charles and Ruth Launtz, of Huntingdon. One son and one daughter survive: David A. Moloney, St. Charles, Mo., and Michele A. Kelly, New Cumberland. There are three grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister and one brother, Winifred Smith, Enola, and Vincent R. Moloney, Egg Harbor Twp. N.J. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister, John Moloney and Patricia Starsinic. Dr. Moloney was a former member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Enola. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Scociety and the Dauphin County Medical Society. He was also a member of the Colonail Country Club and American Legion Post No. 730. He was a graduate of the former Enola High School. He attended Shippensburg University and was a graduate of Temple University Medical School. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served in the Korean Conflict. He was a self-employed physician. For 28 years, he was the Physician to the Susquehanna Twp. School District. He also served on the Pinnacle Health System Medical Staff. He was an avid reader and enjoyed golf. PARK, 94, formerly of 20 W. Market St., Danville, and a guest at Grandview Health Care Center for the past eight years, died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Grandview. Born Dec. 8, 1908, in Frugality, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Antonia (Vinivorshki) Mozi. She was married to Irvin Park. Mr. Park preceded her in death in November 1950. William Weary officiating. Committal will be made at Cornelius Chapel Cemetery in Mapleton. Timothy R. GIBBONEY, 40, of Middletown, N.Y., died suddenly Saturday, May 24, 2003, at his home. Born April 26, 1963, in Mechanicsburg, he was a son of Donald H. and Carole (Reese) Gibboney of McAlevys Fort. He is lovingly missed by his wife, Colleen, who survives at their home. Two brothers and one sister survive: Darrel F. Gibboney, Middletown, N.Y.; Donald T. Gibboney, Alexandria; and Cathleen Van Ouse, Port Matilda. He was a manager for Olori-High Reach, Nanuet, N.Y. His quiet strength and his love for the Lord, his beloved wife and his fellow man characterized his fife. To honor Mr. Gibboney's wishes, there will be no visitation. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, due to injuries received in a single motor vehicle accident late Saturday night, May 24, on Black Hollow Road, Clay Twp. Born March 10, 1979, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of Robert K. and Karen L. (Mahoney) Carbaugh of 6593 Rowe Run Road, Chambersburg. He is survived by a daughter, Tessa Alenda Dawne Romig, at home. Two sisters survive: Heather A. Hessong and Holly M. Carbaugh, both of Chambersburg. Simon Joseph "Joe" EDWARDS, 78, of R.R. 1, Box 164-A, Huntingdon, died at 2 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2003, at his residence following an extended illness. Born Jan. 11, 1925, in Cherrytown, Hopewell Twp., he was the son of the late Percy V. and Mazie V. (Bryan) Edwards. He was united in marriage to the former Josephine M. Ross March 25, 1949, in Winchester, Va. Mrs. Edwards survives at their residence. He is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Thomas M. (Sharon Edwards) Culp, Huntingdon, R.R. 1, Porter Twp., and Mrs Pete (Judith Edwards) Simpson, Alexandria, Porter Twp. Seven grandchildren survive: Thomas A. Mr. Edwards attended the Huntingdon Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Huntingdon. He was a member of Standing Stone Post No. 1754, VFW, Huntingdon. He attended the public schools of Cherrytown and graduated from Saxton-Liberty High School with the Class of 1943. During World War II he served in the 75th Bombardment Squadron (Medium) as an airplane armorer with the U.S. Army Air Force, attaining the rank of corporal. He served in China, New Guinea, the Northern Solomans, Western Pacific, Bismarck Archipelago, the Southern Phillipines and Luzon. He retired from Penelec in 1987 as an electrical equipment construction and maintenance 1st class-- hot stick in Huntingdon, concluding 37 years service. He had joined Penelec in 1959 as a groundman and was named an apprentice lineman in 1951, truck driver in 1957 and crew clerk in 1959. He became a junior layout man in 1969, patrolman in 1974, substation and line inspector in 1975 and an electrical equipment construction and maintenance 3rd class in 1980. He subsequently became an electrical equipment construction and maintenance 2nd class in 1981 and a first class the following years. He earned the hot stick designation in 1983. Mr. Edwards had lived in the Huntingdon area for 54 years. He enjoyed hunting and was highly skilled with crafts and repair. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at the John B. Joseph Michael MAGLIERE, 49, formerly of Mount Union and most recently of 327 W. 30th St., New York, N.Y., died Monday, May 26, 2003, at his home. Although he had been seriously ill, his death was unexpected. Born May 8, 1954, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Margaret L. (Calupca) Magliere. He never married. He is survived by two sisters: Mrs. Robert (Carmella) Lear, Mount Union, and Mrs. Donald (Rosemarie) Sentman, Mount Union. One niece, four nephews and three grandnephews also survive. Mr. Magliere was a member of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union. A 1972 graduated of Mount Union area High School, he attended the university of Pittsburgh. He was employed as a parking garage maintenance supervisor in New York City. He also assisted with props in several Broadway productions. He enjoyed attending the theatre, both on and off Broadway, and was an avid baseball fan. (Awkerman) KIDWELL, 83, of 3065 Emmet Ave., Huntingdon, and most recently a resident of Huntingdon Manor, Warm Springs Avenue, Huntingdon, died at 4:07 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Oct. 17, 1919, in Mount Union, she was a daughter of the late Curtis and Nora Grace (Gladfelter) Awkerman. She was united in marriage to Henry L. Kidwell in 1966 in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Kidwell survives at their residence. She is survived by three sons: Gary Awkerman and his wife, Andrea (Hofford), of Isle of Palms, S.C.; Larry Stair and his wife, Pamela (Lucas), of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and Robert Stair and his wife, Maria Isabel Fernandez Lerida, East Hampton, Conn. There are seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One sister, Esther (Awkerman) Rittenhouse of Huntingdon, survives. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Mrs. Kidwell was of the Lutheran faith. She was a member of Women of the Moose, Lodge No. 347 and the Auxiliary to the American Veterans, Post No. 2, both in Frederick, Md. He was united in marriage to the former Martha Lillian Snyder July 21, 1952, in the Saxton Church of God, Saxton. Mrs. Butler survives at their home. Born Oct. 30, 1919, in Oliver Twp., Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Rufus and Dora (Buchanan) Krepps. His wife, Betty (Wray) Krepps, whom he married Dec. 19, 1941, survives at the Shirley Home for the Aged, Shirleysburg. Also surviving are two daughters: Mrs. James (Karen) Sheaffer Jr., Gypsum, Colo.; and Mrs. Richard (Sharen) Keiser, McVeytown; and three foster children: Ronald Briar, McVeytown; Ronnie Earnest, Brandenburg, Ky.; and Stanley Mitchell, Selinsgrove. Five sisters and two brothers survive: Gretta Byler, Hummelstown; Marian Woodward, Sequim, Wash.; Harold "Jack" Krepps, Orbisonia; Alma Rhodes, McVeytown; Mrs. Eugene (Audrey) Ranck, Pine Glen; Ronald Krepps, Austin; and Mrs. Donald (Susie) Bratton, McVeytown. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Jeremy Sheaffer and his wife, Dawn, and Jarrod Sheaffer, all of Gypsum, Colo.; Desa Ray Krepps, Bradford; Shawna Krepps, Massachusetts; Lyndsee Krepps, Longfellow; and Angie Specht, North Carolina; and one great-granddaughter, Alanna Krepps of Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by one son, Clyde W. "Bootsie" Krepps Jr.; one brother, Carl Krepps; and one grandson, Christopher Krepps. Mr. Krepps was a member of the Spring Run church of the Brethren and attended the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren. For 37 years, he was a director of the Mifflin County Conservation District, having been one of the first cooperators to sign up with the district. He was a board member of the Bricktown Senior Center, Mount Union, for the past five years. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a dairy farmer for 35 years. An Oliver Twp. supervisor, he served in that capacity for 26 years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by many. Interment will be made in Spring Run Cemetery, McVeytown. Lewis F. "Lew" GREENE, 84, of R.R. 4, Box 259, Huntingdon, died at 3:18 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Jan. 6, 1919, in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Samuel C. and Gertrude (Dickel) Greene. He was united in marriage to the former Dorothy N. Hall June 27, 1948, at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Huntingdon, with the Rev. E. L. Manges officiating. Mrs. Greene survives at their home. Two sons and one daughter survive: Samuel L. Greene, Seattle, Wash.; William D. Greene and his wife, Susan, Huntingdon; and Mrs. David (Barbara Greene) Kemp, Huntingdon. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Allison, Emily and Sarah Kemp; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. T. Arnold Greene. Mr. Greene was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church Huntingdon. He was a life member of Standing Stone Post No. 1754 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Huntingdon. A resident of Huntingdon County since 1926, he attended the Huntingdon Public schools. He was a 1937 graduate of Huntingdon High School where he was a member of the football team for four years. He attended Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., on a scholarship and was a full-time starter on the university's undefeated freshman football team. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II (1942) as a photo instructor. He was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in 1943 and was assigned to Guam in 1944 in order to take part in the offensive in the Pacific Theatre of Operations and the air battle of Japan. While serving in the Marianas, he was promoted to captain until his transfer to the inactive Reserves April 3, 1946. In May 1946, Mr. Greene opened "A Photo Studio" in Huntingdon and operated the studio until its closing in January 1960, when he accepted a position as chief clerk for Huntingdon County. He held that position for 24 years and retired in 1984. He enjoyed fishing, photography, woodworking and music. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 2, at the John B. HICKS, 92, of 3985 Huntingdon Furnace Road, Huntingdon Furnace, Tyrone, died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at his home. Born May 22, 1911, in Riverside, Wash., he was the son of the late Howard S. and Elizabeth (Coleman) Hicks. He married the former Martha J. Keys July 11, 1938. Mrs. Hicks survives. He is survived by the following children: William L. Hicks, Captain, USN Ret. and his wife, Mary, of Burke, Va.; Dr. Elizabeth Dow and her husband, David, of Baton Rouge, La.; Susan McCauley and her husband, John, of Portland, Ore.; and Joseph H. Hicks and his wife, Rebecca, of Phoenix, Ariz. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Michael, Patrick, Scott and Shana Hicks and Tim and Dan McCauley; and five great-grandchildren, Elliot, Nathaniel, Timothy and Anne Hicks and Lauren McCauley. A resident of the Tyrone area since 1914, he graduated from Tyrone High School in 1929. He also graduated from Pierce College, Philadelphia. Mr. Hicks retired after owning and operating a large dairy farm at Huntingdon. Furnace. Prior to his retirement, he served for 17 years on the Warrior Mark-Franklin and Tyrone area school boards and served as president of the Tyrone Area School Board. He also served in many other civic and agricultural societies and organizations. He was a lover of music and reading and was an avid fisherman. Other hobbies included operation of various ham radios and working on the computer. During the winter, he and his wife lived in Naples, Fla. and returned to their Huntingdon Furnace home for the summer. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Marjorie Maye GREENWOOD, 85, a resident of the Fairways at Brookline Village, State College, formerly of Orbisonia, died at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Brookline Village. Born June 16, 1919, in Purchase Line, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Lottie (Houck) Keating. She was married to A. Ward Greenwood Oct. 26, 1950, in Washington, D.C. Mr. Greenwood preceded her in death Jan. 28, 2000. One sister, Virginia Dugan of Cody, Wyo., survives. She is also survived by one nephew and two nieces: Charles Barry Dugan, Patricia K. ZOLLERS, 50, Mill Creek, formerly of Phoenixville, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona. Born Aug. 16, 1952, in Phoenixville, he was a son of the late Earl H. Zollers and Eva May (Frvinger) Trivelpiece. He is survived by two sisters and two brothers, Linda D. Daddario, South Coventry Twp.; Jane L. Armstrong, Birdsboro, and Clark W. Zollers, both of Schwenksville. One sister, Patty Zollers, preceded him in death. Mr. Zollers worked for a general contractor in Huntingdon County. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service at 1 p.m. Monday, June 2, at ST. Matthew Evangelical Church Cemetery, Conestoga Road, Chester Springs. The Rev. Chad Brekke will officiate. Robert William GRACEY, 72, of Hoover Road, Waterfall, died at 9:55 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2003, in Wells Twp., Fulton County. Born July 2, 1930, in Wells Twp., he was the son of Raymond and Velma (Henry) Gracey, both deceased. He is survived by three daughters: Louise Steele, Brownstown; Linda Fraker, Fort Littleton; and Robin Newman, Waterfall. There are six grandchildren. One sister and two brothers also survive: Betty Donahue, John Gracey and Edward Gracey, all of Waterfall. Two sisters, Phyllis Robinson and Doris Howard, are deceased. Mr. Gracey attended Dublin Mills Community Church, Hustontown, and Fairview United Methodist Church, Harrisonville. He was a 1948 graduate of Hustontown High School. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps in 1949-1950. Mr. Gracey retired from PBS Coal Co., Somerset, where he was a heavy equipment operator. He had served as a director of New Enterprise Rural Electric Cooperative since 1976. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Fulton County Sportsmen's League. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the Dublin Mills Community Church, Hustontown, with Pastor Sam Stoey officiating. Interment will be made in Center Cemetery, Waterfall. Frances Barbara HARCHACK, 82, formerly of Huntingdon, died at 7:25 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Huntingdon Manor, Warm Springs Ave., Huntingdon. Born Sept. 7, 1920, in Patterson, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Viola (Slupecki) Wojewodzki. She was married to George Harchack who preceded her in death. She is survived by one son, Phillip Harchack; his wife, Robin, and two grandsons, Phillip M. Harchack and George P. Harchack, all of Huntingdon. One sister, Martha Lobonoski of Lvyland, survives. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Eugene Wojewodzki, Thaddeus Wojewodzki and Alfred Wojewodzki, and one sister, Alice Stabicki. Mrs. Harchack was of the Polish Catholic faith. She was a homemaker. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of her family. Owen D. BECHTEL, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Thursday, May 29, 2003, in Port Charlotte. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Post Charlotte; and two brothers, John of New Jersey, and Fred of Lakemont. While married to the former Pearle Hetrick of Huntingdon, he operated a funeral home in Huntingdon and later in Williamsburg. Funeral services were held in Williamsburg Monday, Interment was made in Martinsburg. Barbara S. RODGERS 87, of Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, died Thursday, May 29, 2003. Born in Newburgh, N.Y. she was a daughter of the late Eugene W. and Hazel (Huntoon) Smiley. She is survived by her husband, Horace C. Rodgers Jr., of Messiah Village. Three children survive: Stephen J. Rodgers and his wife, Katherine, McMurray; Mrs. Joseph (Nancy R.) Peters, Beaver; and Paul E. Rodgers and by his wife, Barbara, Chambersburg. There are eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith, and a sister, Marjorie Brundage. Mrs. Rodgers was a member of Market Square Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg. She was a graduate of Beaver College, Jenkintown, where she received her BS degree in home economics. From 1962-1968, she was employed by Huntingdon County Children's Services, Huntingdon. She retired in 1980 from Family and Children Services, Harrisburg, where she had been a case worker for 12 years. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, in the Messiah Village Chapel, with Pastor Ronald Burgard and the Rev. James D. Brown officiating. The interment service will be held privately and at the convenience of the family in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Twp. Esther B. GROVE, 96, of 308 Mack Lane, Martinsburg, died early Thursday morning, May 29, 2003, at her home. Born Dec. 28, 1906, in Martinsburg, she was a daughter of the late Frederick R. and Anna M. (Seedenberg) Zook. She married Walter L. Grove June 23, 1931. Mr. Grove preceded her in death Jan. 19, 1988. She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn A. Grove of Cape Cod, Mass.; a son, W. Remie Grove of Frederick, Md.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karen L. Martin, and seven brothers and sisters. Mrs. Grove was a member of Memorial Church of the Brethren, Martinsburg. She attended the Martinsburg area grade schools and was a graduate of Windber High school, Windber. She graduated from Juniata College, Huntingdon, in 1929, where she began her studies at age 16. After graduation she taught in the music department of the college. She retired as a self-employed music / piano teacher in 1970. She was also a homemaker. She was very active socially, civically, musically and in her church life. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, at the Chapel / Activities room at The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg, with Pastors David A. Steele and Floyd H. Mitchell officiating. Private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg. Edward Martin HOWE II, 60, of 756 N. Sixth St., Clairton, died at 3:59 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2003, at Southwestern Nursing Center, Pittsburgh. He had been in declining health for the past year. Born Nov. 1, 1942, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late William Albert and Sara Catharine (Fleming) Howe. He was united in marriage to Sharon K. Miner Dec. 23, 1982, in Huntingdon. He is survived by his wife at home; five children: Edward M. Howe III of Edinboro, Sarah C. Ratliff of Washington, Pa., Amy E. Howe of Edinboro and Calvin B. Goodman Jr. and Max M. Goodman, both of Pittsburgh; and two grandchildren. A brother, William L. "Bill" Howe and his wife, Nancy of Huntingdon, and two sisters, Mrs. Franklin (Sara) Zibriskie of Orkney, Scotland, and Kathleen H. Sheaffer of Lewistown, survive. Mr. Howe was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lewistown, and has resided in the Pittsburgh area since 1983. He was a member of the Music Educators National Conference, Pennsylvania Music Educators Association and the Huntingdon County band Directors Association. Mr. Howe was a 1960 graduate of Lewistown High School. He attended Bloomsburg State College from 1960 to 1962 and Juniata College from 1966 to 1967, with a major in biology at both institutions. He graduated from the United States Naval School of Music with the Class of 1963 and from the Thompson Institute with the Class of 1967 with a degree in accounting and computer programming. At Edinboro State College, he earned a bachelor of science degree in music education in 1971 and a masters degree in music education in 1973. He pursued graduate studies in education administration from St. Bonaventure University, St. Bonaventure, N.Y. He served with the United states Navy in Alaska. He enlisted Sept. 6, 1962, and was discharged Sept. 2, 1966. Mr. Howe was currently employed with the Department of Corrections, SCI Pittsburgh, holding positions at the Facility since 1988, he was named activities manager 1 and in 1989 he was named to his most recent position, activities manager 2. He began his career at the Centre County Canning Corporation (1957- 1962), then moved on to Jones Motor Freight, Harrisburg, as a manifest clerk (1967- 1968). From 1972 to 1973, he worked both for the Corry Area School District and the Corry Country Club as a kitchen manager, while working on his master's degree. His career in education began at Lewistown Junior High School, as the junior high general music and chorus teacher fro the spring term in 1968. From 1971 to 1972, he served as the elementary band and instrumental teacher at Red Mill School, Rensselear, N.Y. From 1973 to 1980, he served as the junior and senior high school band and chorus director in the Oswayo Valley School District, Shinglehouse. In 1980, he took a position as junior and senior high band director in the Juniata Valley School District, remaining there until his employment with the Department of Corrections. Mr. Howe was honored by Edinboro State College July 18, 1973, with his graduate recital. He received recognition in 1985 from the commissioner of corrections for the development of a musical instrument repairs program, use as an apprentice program for the Department of Corrections, as well as a major cost savings service to music programs at various institutions throughout the commonwealth. He attended the Aubrey Willis School of Piano Tuning and Repair, Orlando. Fla. (1972, 1973); was a member of the Wallace L. Barford Piano Technicians Guild, Kinderhook, N.Y. (1972); attended Miles Bryant School, Sacramento, Calif. (1976-1977); grand piano regulating and repairs, Baldwin Factory, Little Rock, Ark. (1976) and worked at Studley's Music Store, Bradford (1975, 1976), repairing musical instruments. Music was not his only field of study. He attended the Institute of Pennsylvania Rural Life and Culture, Landis Valley, in 1975, specializing in blacksmithing; the National Technical Schools, Los Angeles, Calif., (1974, 1975) studying basic electronics; and the Correctional Academy for Cadre Development, Camp Hill, in 1984. Graveside services will be held Monday, June 2, at Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery, with the Rev. John Bell officiating. Geraldine M. PARSONS, 77, of 24 Walnut Ave., Mount Union, died at 9:25 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2003, at Brookline Manor, Mifflintown. Born May 10, 1926, in Love's Valley, Shirley Twp., Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of the late David L. and Flora (Goss) McKim. She was married to Norman O. Parsons April 30, 1946, in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Parsons survives. She is also survived by two sons and three daughters: Norman Wayne Parsons, Mapleton; Donna K. Harshbarger, Ryde; Rose Marie Waite, McVeytown; Clyde G. Parsons, Newton Hamilton; and Karen Elaine Wertz, Huntingdon. There are 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. One brother, Gerald McKim of Sunrise Acres, Star Route, Huntingdon, survives. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Kip Douglas Kyper, and three brothers, Ralph McKim, Richard McKim and Russell McKim. Mrs. Parsons attended Cedar Crest-Lucy Furnace Chapel, Mount Union. She was a member of the Bricktown Seniors, Mount Union. She graduated from Mount Union High School in 1946. For 18 years, she worked for L. Greif Bros, Mfg., and the Genesco Corp. of Mount Union until the plant closed in 1974. She enjoyed crocheting and taking care of her flower beds. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, 61 E. Shirley St., Mount Union, with the Revs. Jeff Winstead and Robert Davidson officiating. Interment will be made in the Garden of Honor in the Mount Union Cemetery. Dennis R. KNEPPER, 59, of 6394 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, in Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg. Born July 15, 1943, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Joseph A. Baker and Madeline C. (Ripple) Knepper. He was married to the former Doris Mae Guyer. Mrs. Knepper survives at their home. He is also survived by three sons and one daughter:Jeff Knepper, Mapleton; Scott Knepper, James Creek; Shane Knepper, Robertsdale; and Sharon Stuller, Huntingdon. Two sisters and one brother survive: Patricia Fickes, Fayetteville; and Eddie Knepper and Kris Knoll, both of Chambersburg. There are seven grandchildren. Mr. Knepper was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge No. 842, Chambersburg. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a truck driver for Lesher's Poultry Farm Inc., Chambersburg. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at Beavertown Bible Church, Todd, with the Rev. James Thomas officiating. Interment will be private.
