An infant son of Miss Kate McCann, employed as a domestic at the Farmers' Hotel, this city, was found dead in bed between three and four o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The mother had left the child in bed at five o'clock in the morning and did not go to see it again until the time stated, when she found that a fold of the blanket in which she had wrapped it covered its mouth and nostrils, thereby suffocating it. Coroner Brumbaugh summoned a jury, and after an examination into the facts returned a verdict that death was the result of "accidental suffocation by the bed clothing." The conduct of the mother in not looking after her innocent babe for almost an entire day is unaccountable and most reprehensible. The Huntingdon Journal, Huntingdon, Pa., Friday, November 18, 1887
