McPherran, Esq., died at his home at Sterling, Illinois, on December 11, after suffering from heart affliction about a year. He was the son of John and Elizabeth McPherran, pioneer settlers in the Spruce Creek valley, and was born at Eden Hill, near Spruce Creek, Huntingdon county, in 1834. He was graduated from Jefferson college at Cannonsburg in 1857, after which he went to Chicago and was graduated as a law student from the Chicago University in 1863, and shortly after opened a law office at Sterling where he spent the remainder of his life. He is survived by his wife and three sons viz; Edgar W., a prominent railway attorney at Marquette, Michigan; Ralph S., holds an important position as superintending chemist with the Allis-Chalmers company at Milwaukee, Wis., and Charles C. McPherran, a similar position by the Thomas Furnace company at Milwaukee. The only daughter, Mabel, died about six years ago. Three brothers also survive the deceased: John A. McPherran, who lives on the old homestead near Spruce Creek; Robert McPherran, Toledo, Ia., and Stewart McPherran, of Hutchinson, Kansas. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, a knight templar in the Masonic fraternity and a leading member of the bar and prominent citizen of Illinois. The Tyrone Herald, Thursday, December 24, 1903
