John Calvin McPherran, the last surviving member of the family of William McPherran, of Spruce Creek Valley, who has been in the employ of Dr. C. M. Ewing for a month or so past, where he has made his home died suddenly in [sic] Friday evening at 9 30 at the home of his cousin A. J. Mattern, on Washington avenue. He had not been well for some days and shortly before the above hour had visited at the home of Mr. Mattern and started for the home of Dr. Ewing on Logan street. Becoming bewildered it is supposed he lost his way and walked into Sinking Spring Run. He, however, managed to get out and his cries for help called several to his assistance. He was taken to the home of Mr. Mattern and Dr. W. L. Lowrie summoned who pronounced the ailment paralysis of the heart. He did not linger long after being discovered. He was aged about 55 years and the greater portion of his life was spent in Spruce Creek Valley. He was unmarried. The remains will be taken this morning on sea shore express to Spruce Creek and from thence convewed [conveyed] to Franklinville. Funeral service will be held in the Lutheran church near that place and will be conducted by Rev. A. J. Bean. Interment in Seven Stars cemetery. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Monday, March 30, 1891
