John Melia, employed as a track hand by the P.R.R. Company, was fatally injured on Friday afternoon, by being struck by second section of Day Express while wheeling ballast on to the third track, about one mile west of this city. A western bound freight train had detained him, and as the last car passed he started to cross the track, and as he did so was struck by the bumper of the engine hauling day express. He was at once removed to the Company's hospital in this city, where he expired in a few minutes. The only noticeable injury was an abrasion on the left breast, where the bumper of the engine struck him. He was aged about 25 years and unmarried.
