Dorothy A. Mentzer, 85, of Newville, died 
Sunday, June 17, 2001 in Swaim Health 
Center, West Pennsboro Township.

Born Nov. 22, 1915 in Aughwick, Huntington 
County, she was a daughter of the late 
Albert and Mary Alexander Vaughn and the 
widow of Sheldon P. Mentzer, who died 
Sept. 22, 1984.

She was a member of Center Lutheran 
Evangelical Church, Newville, where she 
was a Sunday school and vacation Bible 
school teacher for 50 years; the Lutheran 
Belles; and the Farm Women's Group.

Mrs. Mentzer is survived by two sons, 
James A. and John P., both of Newville; 
two brothers, John Vaughn of Leighton and 
Charles Vaughn of Mt. Union; two sisters, 
Sarah McCartney of Allentown and Mary 
Snyder of Hobbs, N.M.; three 
grandchildren; and two great-
granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by a brother, 
James Vaughn, and a sister, Clara Todaro.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in 
Center Lutheran Evangelical Church, 1498  
Center Road, Newville, with the Rev. 
Robert Seibold officiating. Burial will be 
at 2 p.m. in Haven Rest Memorial Park, 
Shirleysburg, Huntington County.

Friends may call from Friday 10 to 11 a.m. 
at the church. Egger Funeral Home, 
Newville, is in charge of arrangements.
