MERRITTS

  David Merritts died yesterday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home of 
his only sister, Mrs. J. W. Madison of 715 Fourth avenue, Juniata, of 
heart trouble.  He was born in Huntingdon county on July 3, 1847, and 
was a veteran of the Civil war, having been a member of Company M, 
Ninth regiment of Pennsylvania volunteers.  His wife preceded him to 
the grave a few years ago.  The family formerly resided at Birmingham, 
having moved to Juniata only eight months ago.  He was a member of the 
George Simpson post 44 of the G.A.R. of Huntingdon.  The body will be 
taken to Huntingdon on Thursday where funeral services and interment 
will take place.
