In the barn yard stands a wagon shed and from this shed to the gate leading from the yard the grade inclines downward pretty rapidly. In the shed was a four-horse wagon, which was usually kept locked to prevent it from running down the hill. On the evening above named Miss Mingle was in the yard milking, and some of the cattle started the vehicle, which was not locked at the time, down the hill by rubbing against it. In order to stop the wagon and prevent it from knocking the gate and fence down, the unfortunate lady ran to catch the leaver of the brake, but unfortunately, in her daring attempt to do so, the coupling-pole which projected to the rear (the wagon was running with rear end foremost) struck her in the stomach, throwing her to the ground, just as the fence was reached, The accident occurred at half past six o'clock in the evening and the lady was a corpse at ten thirty-five the same night. Her age was about fifty-eight years. - Tyrone Herald The Register, Hollidaysburg, Pa., Wednesday, June 24, 1874 1870 Warriors Mark Township, Huntingdon County, PA Geo.
