Herbert Ray Moffitt, of 325 N. 29th Street, Camp Hill, a former engineer in the State Department of Highways, died Sunday afternoon, March 15, 1964 following a lengthy illness. The deceased was born in West Township, Huntingdon County, on May 27, 1885, the son of Samuel and Clara (Lindsay) Moffitt. He was married to the former Irene Bottrell, who survives, along with one daughter, Miss Mary Irene Moffitt of Madison, Wisconsin, and two brothers, Dr. H. Fred Moffitt of Altoona, and Earle L. Moffitt of Dunedin, Florida. He was a veteran of 32 years service with the state, retiring in 1941 when assistant chief engineer in charge of maintenance in the Department of Highways. Earlier he had been district engineer in eight of the state’s regions and had supervised road construction in 45 counties. A graduate of Pennsylvania State University in 1911, he had served as a first lieutenant in World War I. Mr. Moffitt was a member of Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, where he had been a trustee and elder. He also belonged to Masonic lodges in Altoona and Camp Hill and was a member of the Engineers Society and the Professional Engineers Society of Pennsylvania Services were held from the Camp Hill Presbyterian Church this afternoon and interment was made in Camp Hill.
