April 12, 1938; p5. Mahlon L. Moffitt, well known resident of Bellwood and ticket examiner at the Altoona passenger station for a number of years, died Monday morning at 9 o’clock. He had been in poor health for the past several years, being off duty because of his condition. Mr. Moffitt was born at Petersburg, Huntingdon county, March 7, 1878. For the past 24 years he had been a resident of Bellwood. He entered the service of the railroad, April 5, 1898, as a laborer and became a baggage agent, January 31,1 903. He was appointed an usher at the Altoona passenger station, November 9, 1906. On December 1, 1917, he was made a ticket examiner, the post he filled until December 1,1933, when he became a station baggageman at the local station. Members of his family include Mrs. Elizabeth (Porter) Moffitt, formerly of Petersburg, two sons, Cleon of Pittsburgh and Mahon, Jr., at home, and two grandchildren.
