LaVan "Vanny" Montague, Jr., 56, of Neelyton, died unexpectedly at his home, Sunday, January 20. Funeral services were held on, Friday, January 25, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Shade Gap. Interment will be made privately in the Neelyton Pine Grove Cemetery. Arrangement are under the direction of the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia. He was born July 30, 1951, at Huntingdon, Pa the son of Leitwyn L. and Mary (Fogal) Montague of Neelyton. He was married in 1974 to Dotti Thomas of Saltillo. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his fiance Maureen A. Miller of Neelyton and a brother and-sister-in-law, Vincent F. and April S. Montague, along with their three children, David, Daniel and Annie all of Chambersburg. He is also survived by numerous loving aunts, uncles, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Montague was preceded in death by their son Curtis L. Montague. He was a member of the Neelyton Pine Grove Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of Southern Huntingdon High School, class of 1969, where he excelled in athletics. He also attended Geneva College in Beaver Falls. He was manager of the Shade Gap Branch for the First National Bank of Mapleton and past owner of the Rob-New-Van sewing factory in Shade Gap. He held a licenses in the insurance, securities, and real estate professions. He was the Secretary; Treasurer and Code Enforcement Officer for Dublin Township and Assistant Post Master for the Neelyton Post Office. He was involved in and held numerous positions in local and state political offices as well as local civic organizations. He was a past master of the Cromwell Lodge #572 F. & A.M., as well as a member of the Southern Huntingdon County School Board; Shade Gap Lions Club; Huntingdon County Industrial Development Authority; Realtors Association of Huntingdon County and a member of the State Resolution Committee of the PA Association of Township Supervisors. Mostly recently, Mr. Montague was elected Chairman of (PIRMA) PA Insurance Risk Management Association. He was an avid golfer and a long time member of the Mt. Union Country Club. In addition to golfing, his favorite pastimes were farming, building houses, skiing, playing softball and taking care of his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting and was a charter member of the Mountain View Lodge Hunting Camp. He traveled extensively to many destinations. Mr. Montague was a great friend to all who knew him.
