JONES, 61, of HCR 62, Neelyton, died at noon Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, following an extended illness. Born Nov. 16, 1939, at Three Springs, she was the daughter of the late Furman and Katherine (Alexander) Scott. She married Glenn C. Jones, who survives at home. She is survived by four children: Rena Shearer of Blairs Mills and Steven Jones, Timothy Jones and Wayne Jones, all of Neelyton. She is also survived by two foster children at home and by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Five brothers, Ralph Scott of Three Springs, Ivan Scott of Chambersburg, Merrill Scott of Dillsburg, Harold Scott of Manheim and Clyde Scott of Chambersburg, survive as well. One sister preceded her in death. Mrs. Jones attended Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Shade Gap. R.D. She was a member of the Shade Gap Golden Agers and the Shade Gap Area Fire Company’s Ladies Auxiliary. She was employed as a school bus driver for over 20 years, mostly with the Southern Huntingdon County School District. She was a foster mother for over 20 years and enjoyed working with the elderly through the Home Health Agency and was instrumental in starting the Fresh Air Fund in the Shade Gap area. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Shade Gap, RD.. with Pastor Marlin "Butch" Neil officiating. Interment will be made in Neelyton Pine Grove Cemetery. Delilah P (Prendergast) WALKER, 82, of 235 Miffiin St., Huntingdon, died Friday, Nov. 2, 200l at 1 am,; at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Feb. 16, 1919, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late John F. and Delilah (Herncane) Prendergast. She married Calvin T. Walker Nov. 21, 1941, in Huntingdon. Mr. Walker survives at home, along with the following children: C. Thomas Walker II, Lancaster; Donald F. Walker, Los Cruces. N.M.; Christopher Walker, Lisle, Ill.; Gregory L. Walker, Huntingdon; Mrs. Robert (Denise M.) Sukenik, Mount Joy; and Frederick D. Walker, Hanover. There are 13 grandchildren. One sister, Patricia Shuck of Huntingdon, survives. She was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers: Anna Mary Guisler, Elizabeth Stallings, Virginia McIlroy, Benjamin, James, John, George and Richard Prendergast Mrs. Walker was primarily a homemaker. She was a lifetime member of the Universal Roman Catholic Church and Most Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Huntingdon. A 1937 graduate of Huntingdon High School, she was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and had lived at her current residence for the past 57 years. A funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Most Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Sixth and Washington streets, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Joseph Orr, the Rev. James Foster and the Rev. David Arseneault officiating. Interment will be made in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 245 Standing Stone Ave., Huntingdon. Carl E. STAINS, 68, of Maple Leaf Lane, Hustontown, died at 8:30 am. Saturday. Nov. 3, at his home in Taylor Township, Fulton County, following an extended illness. Born July 3, 1933, in Maddensville, he was a son of the late Harvey and Ruie (Brown) Stains. He married Susan Mills April 4, 1953. Mrs. Stains survives at home. along with four children: Leah Clark and Lana Group, both of Hustontown; Joyce Hann of Gallitzin and Chris Stains of Fort Littleton. There are ten grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Also surviving are four siblings: Earl Stains, Harrisonville; Violet Losh, Grafton, W.Va.; Alma Mellott, McConnellsburg; and Verna Hoover, Chambersburg. Two brothers and four sisters are deceased. Mr. Stains retired in 1989 from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, where he worked as an electrician. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the Walnut Grove Church of God, Three Springs, RD., with the Rev. Belvy White and the Rev. Rocky Shaal officiating. Interment will be made in the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Three Springs, RD. Martha Fern STINSON, 87, of P.O. Box 503, James Creek, died Saturday, Nov. 3,2001, in the emergency room of J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Her death was unexpected. Born Feb. 19,1914, in Broad Top City, she was a daughter of the late James C. and Mary E. (Edwards) Estep. She married Brinton L. Stinson Feb. 11, 1933. In Wood. He preceded her in death July 14, 1984. Surviving are the following children: Marilyn Householder, Huntingdon; Barbara Troy, Export; Nancy Houck, Mill Creek; and Barry Stinson, Lancaster. There are 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Lola Boyd of New Market, Va. Six brothers and three sisters are deceased. Mrs. Stinson was a member of the Six Mile Run Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she served as secretary/treasurer and deaconess. She was primarily a homemaker and enjoyed quilting. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 11 am., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor Vincent Dolan officiating. Interment will be made in the IOOF Cemetery, Broad Top City. Richard B. BEADLE, 71, of Coatesville, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001. at his home. Born in Morrisville, he was the son of the late Arthur W. and Marlan (Brewer) Beadle. He was the husband of the former Lois E. Norris for 44 years. Surviving, along with his wife, are two sops and two daughters: Keith A. Beadle, Berwick; Kurt A. Beadle, Lancaster; Kathy L. Westman, Benedict, ND.; and Karen L. Gilbert, Coatesville. There are five grandchildren, one step-grandson and one step-great-grandchild. Also surviving are two brothers: Kenneth A. Beadle of Trenton, N.J., and Arthur W. Beadle, Palm Coast, Fla. A 1948 graduate of Morrisville High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until 1954. He received a bachelor of science degree in industrial arts from Millersville University in 1958. He taught industrial arts at North Brandywine Middle School for 33 years and retired in 1991. Mr. Beadle was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Coatesville, where he was in the bell choir and taught in the nursery and Sunday School. He was a member of the Industrial Arts Association of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania State Educator’s Association and National Educators’ Association. Mr Beadle also coached soccer and farm league baseball. Funeral services will be held today at 7:30 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 107 S. 17th Ave., Coatesville, with the Rev. John W. Carlson officiating. Interment will be made in the Old Stone Church Cemetery, Marklesburg, Wednesday, Nov. 7. David Ross EAGLE, 25, of Mechanicsburg, died at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at his home. Born June 9, 1976, in North Little Rock, Ark., he was the son of David S. and Judy (Metz) Eagle of Camp Hill. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Garry Patrick Eagle of Mill Creek; his maternal grandparents, J. Ross and Jeanne Metz of Allensville; and paternal grandmother, Dorothy Weaver Eagle of Shippensburg. Mr. Eagle was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Allensville. He was employed as a forklift operator at Genco, Inc., in Mechanicsburg. Previously he worked at Excel Logistics in Mechanicsburg. He was a member of the West Shore Elks; Mechanicsburg American Legion Post No. 109; and the West Shore Knights of Columbus. A memorial service will be held at the Myers Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, with the Rev. Anna M. Ritter officiating. Interment will be made at the convenience of the family. Marion W. LORD, 83, of 6109 23rd St. North, Arlington, Va., died at 9:15 am. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, Va. She had been a patient since Oct. 17, and had been in failing health for the past three years. Born Feb. 15, 1918, in Ardrnore, she was the daughter of the late George B. Sr. and Jessie (Kline) Wilson. She married Capt. Charles W. Lord, USN, July 10, 1948. He preceded her in death May 12, 1971. Surviving are a brother, George B. Wilson Jr. of Huntingdon, four nephews, one niece, two grand-nephews and one grand-niece. Mrs. Lord graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1935, and from the Altoona School of Commerce in 1937. She was employed in the office of J.C. Blair Co. until 1942. She was the first woman from Huntingdon County to join the Navy WAVES during World War II. She enlisted in October 1942 and was assigned to duty in Washington, D.C.. in the office of the Chief of Naval Operations. She was honorably discharged July 1, 1948, with the rank of chief yoeman. For many years, Mrs. Lord was employed as a salesperson for Lord & Taylor at Tysons Corner, Va. She was a former member of the Huntingdon First Presbyterian Church and later attended services at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Arlington. Mrs. Lord was a member of the Army Navy Country Club, Fort Myers Officer’s Club. American Legion Post No. 44 in Arlington, Va., Daughters of the American Revolution and the Retired Officers Association. A memorial service will be held Nov. 27, at the Navy Chapel. Interment will be made in Arlington National Cemetery with her husband. Full military honors will be accorded. Mae L. CLAPPER, 96, of 800 Mifflin St., Saxton, died Monday. Nov. 5, 2001, at her home, following an extended illness. Born May 2, 1905, in Saxton, she was the daughter of the late John Calvin and Zelia (Hyssong) Elder. She married Gilbert A. Clapper in Cumberland, Md. Mr. Clapper preceded her in death Oct. 24, 1975. Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Patrick (Donna) Smith and Olive Russell. both of Saxton. There are four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters: Robert Elder, Frank Elder, Fenwick Elder, Louise Elder, Amy Bowser, Olive Rhodes and Lena Carstetter. Mrs. Clapper was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School for four years and was a member of the Mite Society. She was also a member of the Broad Top Area Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. Mrs. Clapper was primarily a homemaker and enjoyed traveling and visiting with neighbors on her front porch. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 2:30 p.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor Charles Davis officiating. Interment will be made in St. Luke’s Cemetery, Saxton, RD. Joseph Lee WIBLE, 53, of HCR 73, Three Springs, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at the Altoona Hospital Center for Nursing Care. Born July 31, 1948, in Clay Township, Huntingdon County, he was a son of Buford and Erma (Snyder) Wible, who survive at Hustontown. R.D. A companion, Nancy Neuder, survives at home. Also surviving are four children: Lisa J. Wible, Ithaca, N.Y.; Jonathan L. Wible, McConnellsburg; Russell A. Wible, Three Springs; and Joseph Duvall, at home. There are four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson. One son, Joseph Lee Wible Jr., died in infancy. Five siblings survive: Annamae Foor, Finleyville; Ralph Wible, Mount Union; Mary Smith, Robertsdale; Judy Myers, Gettysburg; Richard Wible, McVeytown. One sister, Shirley Contrillo, preceded him in death. Mr. Wible attended the Fort Littleton Bible Church. Until 1990, he was employed by North American Refractories in Mount Union, when a serious auto accident rendered him disabled. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8. at the Immanuel Bible Church, Three Springs, R.D., with the Rev. David Sproul and the Rev. Debbie Strait officiating. Interment will be made at Cherry Grove Cemetery, Three Springs, RD. Vivian L. NEVILLE, 75, of P.O. Box 2029, Dudley, died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at 2:46 am., in the emergency room of J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Aug. 12, 1926, in Six Mile Run, she was a daughter of the late Matthew and Rachel (Lane) Buckley. She married Oran R. Neville Dec. 10, 1943. Mr. Neville survives in Dudley, along with the following children: Lana Salerno, Mechanicsburg; Karen Marshall, Harrisburg; Barry Neville and Larry Neville, both of Dudley; and Randy Neville, New Grenada. There are seven grandchildren and a great-grandson. Two sisters survive: Arlene Bollinger of Six Mile Run and Margaret Buckley of Saxton. She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother: Phyllis Hoover, Loretta Dively and Robert Buckley. Mrs. Neville was a member of the Saxton Church of God Tabernacle. She was primarily a homemaker and enjoyed baking, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor Lanny Hoover officiating. Interment will be made in the IOOF Cemetery, Broad Top City. Robert F LIST, 78. of Tyrone, died Tuesday. Nov. 6, 2001, at Epworth Manor Nursing Home, Tyrone. Born March 14, 1923, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a son of the late Emil W. and Mildred B. (Schmidt) List. He married Phyllis L. Reidel Nov. 30, 1943. She preceded him in death Sept. 21. 1996. Surviving are five children: Robbin D. List, Buffalo, N.Y.; Patricia A. List, Boonville, N.Y.; Mrs. Timothy (Susan D.) Kroll, Delevan, N.Y.; Mrs. Gary (Cheryl P.) Carroll, Columbus, Ohio; and Mrs. Lawrence (Lisa M.) Levinson, Warriors Mark. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters: Dorothy List of Akron, N.Y. and Mrs. Alfred (Arlene) Marziale, Englewood Beach, Fla. There are four nephews. Mr. List was a retired City of Buffalo police officer, where he served as a patrolman for 30 years. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the 65th Infantry Division in the European Theatre of War. His division assisted in the liberation of prisoners at Auschwitz concentration camp. He received a Bronze Star for his service. Mr. List was a member of the American Legion of Tyrone. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m., at the Bruce F. Cox Funeral Home, Warriors Mark, with the Rev. David Z. Lewis officiating. Interment will be made in the Burket Cemetery, Warriors Mark. Darrell Kenneth FEAGLEY, 58, of R.R. 1, Box 240 F, Porter Township, Huntingdon, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at 3:54 p.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born March 10, 1943, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Preston and Gladys (Wible) Feagley. His step-mother, Enisa ‘Toot" Leamer survives in Smithfield, Huntingdon. He married Donis Kathryn Graham Oct. 29, 1964, in Huntingdon. Mrs. Feagley survives at home, along with three children: Darrell Keith Feagley, James Creek; Dodie Kay Feagley, Smithfield Township, Huntingdon; and Douglas Kenneth Feagley, Monmouth Beach, N.J. Also surviving are two brothers and a sister: Larry Preston Feagley, Smithfield, Huntingdon; Jerry Duane Feagley, Alexandria; and Barbara Ellen Morningstar, James Creek. One step-brother and two step-sisters survive: Gary Feagley, Marsha Stapleton and Jackie Alexander, all of Huntingdon. Educated in the Huntingdon public schools, Mr. Feagley had been a longtime self-employed business owner in Smithfield Township. From January 1965 until June 1990, he owned and operated Feagley’s Market in Smithfield. From June 1985 until his retirement in 1996, he owned and operated Feagley’s Sporting Goods, also in Smithfield. From March 14, 1960, until Feb. 15, 1963, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed with the Headquarters Company of the 25th Infantry Division as a wheeled vehicle mechanic. He was a life member of the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Company and enjoyed gardening, antiques and especially enjoyed going to flea markets with his wife during his retirement years. He was a member of the Huntingdon City League basketball team for many years. Mr. Feagley had been a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and had lived at his Porter Township residence since 1997. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, 207 Ridge Rd., Smithfield Township, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Peter J. Naschke officiating. Interment will be made in the Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Township, Huntingdon. Full military honors will be observed at the graveside service. Mark D. HOOPER, 44, of R.R. 5, Box 3638, Altoona, died at 12:25 am. Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Route 53, Reade Township. Born Feb. 12, 1957, in Altoona, he was a son of the late Ernest W. Hooper and Alma J. (Glass) Hooper, who survives in Altoona. His parents were formerly of Huntingdon County. Surviving, along with his mother, are his former wife, Vallerie Leaper of Altoona, and two children: Tiffany Hooper and Heather Hooper, both of Altoona. Two siblings also survive: Stephen E. Hooper of Salisbury, NC., and Patricia A. Hooper, Altoona. One sister, Deborah Kay Hooper, is deceased. Several aunts, uncles and cousins survive in Huntingdon County. A 1975 graduate of Altoona High School, Mr. Hooper was the owner of The Tiffany Touch art glass studio. He was also a bee keeper, repaired Macintosh computers and enjoyed cooking. He was a bi-weekly volunteer diver for over 15 years for the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Md. Mr. Hooper was a member of the Laurel Dive Club; was a volunteer diver for Keystone Search and Rescue; and served as an instructor for the Hollidaysburg Recreation Association. He was a multi-gallon donor for the American Red Cross. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 12, at 11 am., at the E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, with the Rev. William S. Olewiler officiating. Interment will be made in the Calvary Cemetery. Jane R. DIXON, 84, of Huntingdon. RD. 2, died at 9:38 am. Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Valley View Haven, Belleville. Born June 20, 1917, in Aliquippa, she was a daughter of the late John and Hazel (Hall) Peoples. She married Wilbur F Dixon March 14, 1936. He preceded her in death Dec. 2, 1999. Surviving are the following children: Wanda Wagner and John W. Dixon, both of Huntingdon, R.D. 2; Dale A. Dixon, Huntingdon, RD. 3; and Mrs. Fred (Carol Sue) Peck, Huntingdon, R.D. 2. A grandson, Brett F Dixon of Huntingdon, R.D. 2, was reared in her home. There are eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One son, Wilbur M. Dixon, preceded her in death. Several siblings survive: Gertrude Gibboney, Ennisville; June Rudy, Petersburg, RD.; Phylis Dixon and Henrietta Hawn, both of Huntingdon, R.D. 2; Helen Wilson, North Carolina; and Paul Peoples, Huntingdon. She was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Christensen, and two brothers, Kenneth Peoples and John Peoples. Mrs. Dixon was primarily a homemaker. She was a member of the White Presbyterian Church in McAlevys Fort and was an avid Penn State fan. Funeral services will be held at 11 am. Monday, Nov. 12, at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville, with lay minister Daniel Morris officiating. Interment will be made in the Greenlee Cemetery, McAlevys Fort. Margaret "Peggy" (McClure) TRESS, 52, of 506 Church St., Huntingdon, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at 12:16 a.m, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Nov. 6, 1949, in Johnstown, she was a daughter of Joseph W. and Marian (Wagner) McClure. Her father and mother, Jean (Ketterman) McClure, survive at their Walker Township residence. Also surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Gregory (Kathy Tress) Heaster of Newport, R.D., and Beth A. Tress, Homer City. There is one grandchild. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Paul (Barbara Cussins) Rodgers, Chamhersburg. Mrs. Tress was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, where she served as the church financial secretary. She was a member of the YAR Sunday School Class and participated in numerous Bible study courses. A 1967 graduate of Huntingdon High School, she was active with the Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Family Network Project. She had been employed by UNitas Bank since 1967, most recently serving as an administrative assistant in retail banking. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 12, at 11 am., at the First United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Doyle H. Klinger Jr. officiating. Interment will be made in the IOOF Cemetery, Rockhill Furnace. Clifford G. GILLILAND Jr., 72, of Meadow Street, Rockhill Furnace, died at 7:15 am. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at his home. Born April 25, 1929, in Shirleysburg, he was the son of the late Clifford and Beulah (Myers) Gilliland Sr. He married Joanne Pheasant July 4, 1953. Mrs. Gilliland survives at home, along with a daughter, Cindy Booher of Fayetteville, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One daughter, Diane, is deceased. Three sisters and one brother survive: Patricia McGarvey, Scotia, N.Y.; Dorothea Goodling, Lewistown; Shirley Warner, Mechanicsburg; and Robert Gilliland, Mount Union. Mr. Gilliland was a member of the Rockhill Church of the Brethren, where he was a former Sunday School superintendent and served on various church boards. He retired in August 1984, after 35 years of service at the Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, where he worked as a supply clerk. Mr. Gilliland was a member of the Cromwell Lodge No. 572, F&AM, Orbisonia, and the Orbisonia-Rockhill Joint Municipal Authority. He was a veteran of the Korean War and enjoyed woodworking. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Pastor Len Smith and Pastor Ronald Beverlin officiating. Interment will be made in the Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg, RD. James H. FOSTER, 83, of Pompano Beach, Fla., died Thursday, Nov. 8 2001. Born April 10,1918, in Huntingdon, he was the son of former Huntingdon County sheriff, James W. Foster and Grace (Heikes) Foster. Surviving are his children, William Foster, Steven Foster and Kathleen Foster, along with two grandchildren Mr. Foster was a former president of Sayre National Bank, Cement National Bank and Lehigh Valley Bankers Association. A memorial service will be held. today at 3:30 p.m., at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home, N. 200 W. Copans Rd., Pompano Beach. Fla. Funeral services in Huntingdon will be held at a later date. Timothy M. BRENNAN, 47, of 305 13th St., Saxton, died Friday, Nov. 9, at 8:06 p.m., at the Altoona hospital, following an extended illness. Born Oct. 22, 1954, in Huntingdon, he was a son of Jane (Brennan) Bookwalter, who survives at Saxton. RD. He mauled J. Wanted (Logan) Brumbaugh Feb. 14, 1987, at Saxton, RD. She preceded him in death May 20, 1998. Surviving are the following step-children: Kathy Lazor, Wood; Jerri Fuller, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Lloyd Brumbaugh and Stephen Brumbaugh, both of Saxton; and Susan Runk, Dudley. There are 12 step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson. Mr. Brennan was a member of the Saxton First Church of God. He was a member of the Watson-Black American Legion in Broad Top, the Hopewell VFW, Saxton VFW. and served as past president of the Saxton Sportsmen Club. A 1972 graduate of Tussey Mountain High School, he received his bachelor of science degree in business administration from Penn State University in 1976. RD., she was a daughter of the late Franklin Pierce and Adda Jane (Querry) Blake. She married John W. Brennan Aug. 25, 1928, in Saxton, Mr. Brennan preceded her in death Jan. 18, 1989. Surviving are three sons: Frank Brennan, Robert Brennan and James Brennan, all of Saxton, RD. 1. There are seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Two sons, Michael and Gerald, are deceased. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Irene Blake. Mrs. Brennan was a member of the Saxton First Church of God and the Saxton Chapter No, 161. Order of the Eastern Star and Broad Top Area Senior Citizens. Primarily she was a homemaker and she also worked for a number of years at Cove Shoe Factory, Martinsburg and Scampers Manufacturing in Saxton. She retired in 1971. Born Aug. 12, 1917, at the family home in Cass Township, Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Monroe and Esther Nora (Crownover) Dell. Surviving are a daughter and a son: Mrs. Richard (LaVonda Lee) Fyock of Corner, Ga., and Steward Frank Grose, Huntingdon. There are six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Leonard and Helen Steel. A 1937 graduate of Saltillo High School, Mrs. Grose retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas in Huntingdon after 42 years of service with OCF and its predecessor, Huntingdon Silk Mill. She was a life member of the ladies auxiliary of Frank P. Hommon American Legion Post No. 24, Huntingdon, where she also served as past president. She was also a life member of the ladies auxiliary of the VFW Post No. 1754, Huntingdon; was a member of the Women of the Moose in Huntingdon and the Standing Stone Senior Citizens Center. Mrs. Grose enjoyed bowling, walking and rose gardening. She was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate fan. She had been a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County. Miller of 2207 Maclay Ave., Huntingdon, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at 7:25 am., at Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon, where she had been a resident for two months. She had been in failing health. She was born Naomi Marie Swigart Aug. 19, 1920, in Huntingdon, the daughter of the late William Emmert and Eva Mae (Workman) Swigart. Following Mrs. Swigart’s death in 1930, Mr. Swigart married Elizabeth "Betty" Weeks, who is also deceased. Naomi married Thomas William Miller Jan. 30, 1943, at the Stone Church of the Brethren in Huntingdon, with the Rev. Dr C. C. Ellis officiating. Mr. Miller survives at their residence, along with five daughters and two sons: Carol Balderston, Granville, Ohio; Barbara Miller, Ridgway; Rebecca Roggio, Mansfield, Ohio; William Miller and David Miller, both of Mansfield, Ohio; Sara Remillard, Frederick, Md.; and Mary Kay Eichelman, Cordoba, Spain. There are 11 grandchildren. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by a son in infancy and a granddaughter. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death her parents, stepmother, two brothers and two sisters: John W. Swigart, William F. Swigart, Dorothy Weikert and Martha Sowers. She was a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren in Huntingdon and also faithfully attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Huntingdon. A 1938 graduate of Huntingdon High School, she attended the College of Wooster in Wooster,Ohio, and graduated from Juniata College in Huntingdon with a bachelor’s degree in sociology in 1942. She loved her family and was strong in her faith. BENSON, 81, of Old Pike Road, Mount Union, died at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at his home in Wayne Township, Muffin County. Born Aug. 3, 1920. in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Scott W. and Naomi Jane (Wible) Benson. He married Marjorie Ruth Prough Sept. 18, 1946. Mrs. Benson survives at home, along with three daughters and a son: Ruth Marie Blair, Mount Union; Janet Louise Bish, York; Paul G. Benson, Mount Union; and Darlene Mae Williams, Altoona. There are nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One daughter, Beverly Benson, is deceased. One brother and one sister survive: Charles "Chip" Benson of Lewistown and Edna Schwetz, Ohio. Born March 10, 1909, in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of the late James and Minnie M. (Norris) Gabert. She was united in marriage to J. Clair Rosenborough June 8, 1929, in Hagerstown, Md. He preceded her in death March 14, 1987. Surviving are two children. Mrs. John (Joan) Price of Hartwell, Ga., and Jerry G. Rosenborough, Glen Burnie, Md., along with seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Two grandchildren are deceased. One sister, Mertie Appleby of Mount Union, survives. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister: Samuel Gabert, Lewis Gabert and Sylvia Snellbaker. Mrs. Rosenborough graduated with the Mount Union High School Class of 1927, and from Shippensburg State Teachers College. She had been employed as a teacher at the Aughwick, Colgate and Wrangletown Road schools, all in Shirley Township, Huntingdon County. She was a member of the Sugar Run Church of the Brethren, Mount Union, R.D. 1, where she taught Sunday School for many years and had been involved for a number of years in the church quilting group. She also volunteereed for the Meals on Wheels program and was active in programs for the youth and handicapped in Mount Union for many years. Hooper from March 27, 1943, until May 1962. One daughter, Judith A. "Judy" Hicks of Mount Union, RR. 2, survives, along with three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Born Oct. 20, 1918, in Cromwell Township, she was the daughter of Calvin and Mae (Ronk) Whitsel. She was married to Russell J. Brumbaugh. The couple celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary Aug. 28, 2001. Mr. Brumbaugh survives at home. Also surviving are two children, Robert Brumbaugh, of Johnstown, and Debra States of Huntingdon. Six grandchildren survive along with three brothers and sisters: Isabelle Eutzy, of Shippensburg; Fern Whitsel, of Three Springs; and Cleo Wilson, of Indiana. Born Jan. 27, 1922, in Neffs Mills, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Seymoure and Edith (Watson) Quinn. She married William Moffitt, who preceded her in death in 1952. Born Dec. 3, 1946, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Kenneth Canton Anderson and Estella Belle (Null) Anderson, who survives in Huntingdon. He married Dorothy Marie Price April 27, 1968, at the Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. with the Rev. Chanles Ramp officiating. Mrs. Anderson survives at home, along with two children: Mrs. Jeffrey (Anna Marie) Hinkle of Hesston and Kenneth Canton Anderson, Porter Township, Huntingdon. There is one granddaughter. Also surviving are three siblings: Kenneth Eugene Anderson, Tyrone; Wally Durbec, North Carolina; and Patricia Gray, Scranton. Mr. Anderson was a member of the Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, where he was a member of the Fisher’s of Men Sunday School Class. A 1965 graduate of Huntingdon High School, he had been employed for 33 years by Mead School and Office Products in Alexandria. He had been an over-the-road truck driver for 20 years and spent the last 13 years as a shop machinist and. trained many new employees on factory equipment. For a number of years after graduating from high school, he served with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. He was a member of the Frank P. Hommon American Legion Post No. 24 and Mt. Moriah Blue Lodge No. 300 F&AM. both of Huntingdon. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed working on and cruising with his "street rods." Mr. Anderson had been a life resident of Huntingdon County and had lived at his Porter Township residence for the past 24 years. Born July 1, 1918, in Centre Hill, Clearfield County, she was a daughter of the late John and Viola (Hoover) Ross. She married Albert T. Henry March 16, 1940. Born June 9, 1945, in Sewickley, she was the daughter of Arnold F. Huwar of Sewickley and the late Dorothy (Shusner) Huwar. She married David R. Stinebring, who suirvives at home. In addition to her father and husband, she is survived by a son, Paul A. Lowery of Williamsport. Also surviving are a sister, Mary Kephart, and a brother, George Huwar, both of Pittsburgh. One brother, Arnold G. Huwar, preceded her in death in 1980. Mrs. Lowery received a bachelor’s degree in education from Clarion State University. For 15 years, she was a teacher for the Philipsburg-Osceola School District. She was director of group marketing for Horace Mann Insurance before retiring in February 2001. Mr Barner had been in failing health. Born April 20, 1920, in Tyrone, he was a son of the late George Lee and Grace (Smith) Barner. He married W. Ruth Rudolph Oct. 14, 1944. at the Columbia Avenue United Methodist Church in Tyrone, with the Rev. W. W. Willard officiating. Mrs. Barner survives at home, along with a son, Dana J. Barner of Huntingdon. RD., three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Mr. Barner was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, McConnellstown, where he served on the consistory and as a deacon and elder. Educated in the Tyrone area schools, he graduated from Tyrone High School in 1938. He enjoyed working in sales and was employed by the Isett family with Huntingdon TV Cable Co., and also the Fred B. Bayer Co. He retired as a youth counselor for the Employment and Training Program. Mr. Bamer was a member of the Blair County Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and was a 30-plus-year member and past president of the Woodcock Valley Lions Club. He enjoyed reading; he read an untold number of books in his lifetime, primarily history. She married Virl W. Foster June 12, 1935, in Huntingdon, with the Rev. O.B. Poulson officiating. He preceded her in death Sept. 11, 1996. Surviving are a son. William V. He married the former Barbara Ann ‘Bunny" Petrohoy, who survives at home. Also surviving are two children: Charlotte Patterson of Kiball, Tenn., and Charles I. Barker Jr., Atlanta, Ga. A stepdaughter and stepson also survive: Margaret Bilinski of New Holland and Michael McCarraher, Berlin, Md. There are two granddaughters. Two sisters survive; Mildred Mercer of Coatesville and Evelyn Gabel of Morgantown. Mr. Barker was an OTR truck driver for 30 years. He was also an independent nuclear inspector for Penn State University and had served as Hopewell Township building permit officer for 15 years. Leberknight PETERS, 76, of 31 Armory Dr., Chambersburg, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at 6:19 a.m.. at her home. Born Jan. 13, 1925, in Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Mary (Hershey) Hamman. Her first husband, H. Edgar Leberknight, preceded her in death July 1, 1971. Her second husband, Edgar D. Peters, died Dec. 14, 1982. Surviving are five children: Patricia A. Truett, Edgar W. Leberknight Sr., Mrs. Kenneth (Linda L.) Brooks, all of Chambersburg; Leonard Harry Leberknight, St. Thomas; and Mrs. Terry (Dawn C.) Strock, Chambersburg. Born Sept. 30, 1927. in Lafayette, Ind., she was a daughter of the late William and Nellie C. (Cain) Harrington. She was the widow of Patrick R. DiPaola, who preceded her in death 1988. They shared 38 years of marriage. She grew up on a farm in Otterbein, Ind., and had lived most of her life in the Philadelphia area, Fort Washington and Horsham. She had also lived in Hershey and Huntingdon and spent summers in Wildwood, N.J. Surviving are six children: Michael DiPaola, Jupiter, Fla.; Teresa Insetta, West Chester; Patrick DiPaola, Mechanicsburg; Mary Ellen DiPaola, San Francisco, Calif; William DiPaola, Hendersonville, NC.; and Paula Currie, Alpine, N.Y. There are four grandsons and six granddaughters. Also surviving are three sisters and two brothers: Alice Van Wanzeele, Otterbein, Ind.; Betty Hendrix, Seymore, Ind.; Ann Wadleton, Indianapolis, Ind.; Timothy Harrington. Anna (Brown) HOFFMAN, 88, of Huntingdon Manor, formerly of 506 Fifth St., Huntingdon, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at 12:35 p.m., at Huntingdon Manor. She had been in failing health for the past five years. Born Oct. 17, 1913. in Orbisonia, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Rebecca (Rutter) Brown. She married Phil D. Hoffman June 15, 1935. He preceded her in death April 20, 1979. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Kay H.) Swivel, Huntingdon, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One son, Ted B. Hoffman, preceded her in death March 19, 1963. The youngest of seven children, she was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters: Mervin, Fred and Frank Brown, Mary (Brown) Norton, Margaret (Brown) Dudick and Reba L. Brown. Mrs. Hoffman was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, where she was a member of the Comrade Class and had previously been a violinist in the church orchestra. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a former member of the Order of Amaranth, Juniata Valley Court No. 121, Huntingdon. A 1931 graduate of Orbisonia High School, she later attended the Perry School of Business. Mrs. Hoffman had been employed at Danks and Co. and Poser’s, both in Huntingdon, as a sales clerk. As a young girl, she worked in her father’s butcher shop in Orbisonia. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and baking. She also enjoyed spending time with all of her friends in the Comrade Class. Mary Anna (Mayes) SHOWALTER, 84, of 245 East Eighth Street, Watsontown. formerly of Alexandria, died at 9:50 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Kramm’s Healthcare Center in Watsontown where she had resided since April 1997. She had been in declining health for the past several years. Born Sept. 5, 1917, in Ferguson Township, Centre County, she was the daughter of the late Edward W. and Nancy (Heberling) Mayes. She married Melvin M. Showalter Jan. 14, 1945, in the Franklinville Methodist Church with the Rev. E. Foster Piper officiating. She was preceded in death by her husband January 13, 1998, one day short of the couple’s 53rd wedding anniversary. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John (Mary Jane) Africa of Milton, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Mayes, and by five brothers: Edward, Dean, John, James and Joseph Mayes. Mrs. Showalter was a member of the Alexandria United Methodist Church, where she served on the administrative board and held other various offices. She graduated from Huntingdon High School, Class of 1935, and from the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1938. She was employed as a registered nurse for many years in Huntingdon and Blair counties until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of Shaver’s Creek Grange No. 353, Juniata Valley and Standing Stone senior citizens, the J.C. Blair Alumni Association, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Huntingdon County, and Petersburg Homemakers. She had been a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County until 1997, when she moved to Watsontown. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at the Hershey Medical Center. Born June 18, 1926, in O’Shanter, Clearfield County, the son of the late William R. and Emma (Campbell) Carlisle. He was united in marriage to Stella M. Fleck Nov. 11, 1961, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Mount Union, with the Rev. Reide Bingaman officiating. Mrs. Carlisle survives at home, along with two daughters: Patricia D’Andrea, Wayside, N.J.; and Elizabeth Hollibaugh, Overbrook Acres, Mount Union, R.R. 1. There are five grandchildren. An infant daughter died at birth. Mr. Carlisle graduated from Clearfield High School with the Class of 1944 and attended the Williamsport Trade School. He moved to Mount Union in 1956 to work for the Mount Union Antenna Company. He retired in 1992 after working for 36 years for TCI Cable System as a manager. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Carlisle had been a very active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, teaching Sunday School, singing in the church choir and serving as usher and deacon. He was a member of and had served in all offices of the Mount Union Lions Club. In 1977-1978. he served as district governor of 14-L Lions. Mr. Carlisle was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of Mount Union Lodge No. 688, F&AM; the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, 32nd Degree Valley of Harrisburg; past president of the Huntingdon County Scottish Rite Club; Jaffa Shrine chanter; Huntingdon County Shrine Club, where he served as a recorder; and 32nd Degree Consistory Valley of Harrisburg. He was an active member of the Eastern Star No. 280 in Mount Union, where he served as the chaplain. He was also a member of Juniata Valley Order of the Amaranth, Court No. 121, where this year he and his wife served the court as royal matron and royal patron. Mr. Carlisle was involved with the Mount Union Area Bricktown Senior Citizens and has served as treasurer of the organization for a number of years. Freeburn LOVE, 83, of East Waterford, died at 10:50 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001. at Brookline Manor Retirement Village, Mifflintown, R.R. 1. Born Nov. 13, 1918, in East Waterford, he was a son of the late Silas and Jennie (Drolsbaugh) Love. His wife of 62 years, the former Miriam Shearer, survives, along with one son and two daughters: Norman F. Love, East Waterford; Marlene Lauver, Pittsburgh; and Elaine Civic, Allentown. There are eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A sister, Lettie Kennedy of HC 67, Muffin, survives. Mr. Love was a self-employed farmer. He was a member, elder and trustee of the East Waterford Presbyterian Church. For many years. he served on the advisory board of the Juniata Valley Bank, Port Royal branch; served as former director and president of Eastern Milk Producers Cooperative; served on the board of directors of the East Waterford Cemetery Association; and was a member of Blairs Mills Lions Club. He was also an active member of Pomona Grange No. 35, Tuscarora Grange No. 774, where he was instrumental in assisting with the construction of the current building. KELLEY, 68, formerly of Mount Union, and a resident of the Veterans Home in Hollidaysburg for the past five years, died at 10:45 p.m. Friday. Nov. 23, 2001, at the Altoona Hospital. He had been in failing health. Born June 22, 1933, in Mount Union, he was a son of the late Oliver and Mildred (Bowman) Kelley. One brother, Robert Kelley of Huntingdon, survives, along with a number of nieces and nephews. Three brothers preceded him in death; Rollin Kelley, Lewis Kelley and Russell Kelley. Mr. Kelley was of the Methodist faith. He attended the Mount Union schools and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Fairless Steel Works in Fairless Hills, after many years of service. He was a member of the Mount Union VFW Lodge No. 5754 and American Legion Post No. 107. "Frankie" FRANKLIN, 89, of Bellefonte, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Centre Community Hospital, State College. Born May 6, 1912, in Aaronsburg, she was the daughter of the late Frank R. and Elizabeth (Acker) Stricker. She married Thomas Henry Franklin, who preceded her in death. Surviving are the following children: Colleen Cramer, Lewistown; Florine Richner, Bellefonte; Shirley Flood, Essex, Md.; Mona McCabe, Alexandria; Thomas Franklin Jr., Centre Hall; Ray Franklin, Potters Mills; and Benjamin Franklin, Bellefonte. Born Oct. 25, 1918, in Allenport, Mount Union, she was a daughter of the late Wendell and Laura (Harman) Coons. She married Chester J. Jaymes Feb. 28, 1941, in the United Methodist parsonage in Mount Union. Mr. Jaymes survives at home, along with two children, Lorraine M. Thomas of Florida and Edward J. Jaymes, Mount Union, RD. 1. There are six granddaughters, four great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters. One sister, Maxine Price of Camp Hill, survives. Mrs. Jaymes was a member of the Singer’s Gap United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women, formerly known as Ladies Aid, and taught both children’s and adult women’s Sunday School classes for over 40 years. Nov. 20, 2001, following a year-long battle with a cancerous brain tumor. Born May 10, 1966, in Stuttgart, Germany. she was the daughter of Arthur Bowman of Burlington, Vt., and William and Martha Hart of Virginia Beach, Va. She is survived by her husband of 16 months, Robert Wilson, and a daughter, Tiffany Henry, all of Virginia Beach. Va. Also surviving are her grandmothers, Geraldine Gibboney of Mill Creek and Marion Williams of Russellville, Ala., along with two brothers and a sister; Cary Bowman, McConnellstown; Will Hart and Brandi to Hart, both of Virginia Beach, Va. Several nieces and nephews survive. She was preceded in death by a sister, Robin Bowman, and her grandparents, Wilbur Williams, Earl Hart and John Kauffman, along with her Bowman grandparents. A 1984 graduate of Huntingdon Area High School, she had resided in Mill Creek until moving to Virginia Beach in 1992. She was last employed as an office manager for Let Us Produce in Norfolk, Va. Mrs. Wilson was a devoted mother and caretaker of her daughter, Tiffany, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 1995. Tiffany is now in remission. Funeral services were held Nov. 23, in Virginia Beach. Born Jan. 25, 1948, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late George P. David and Esther A. (Banks) David Helsel. His step-father, Charles J. Helsel, preceded him in death. He married Shirley J. Shade Nov. 22, 1980, at the Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church in Huntingdon, with the Rev. Samuel Mohansingh officiating. Mrs. David survives at home. A 1966 graduate of Huntingdon Area High School, he was a former president of David’s Construction, Inc., in 1980, and was currently co-partner of its successor, David’s Construction of Huntingdon, R.D. 2, since April 1999. He was also employed by The Fonda Group, Inc., Williamsburg. During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier. USS Bennington CVS-20, from 1966 until 1970. He was also a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves in Altoona from 1975 until 1976. Mr. David was a life member of Standing Stone Post No. 1754 VFW and a life member of the National Rifle Association. Born April 10, 1930, in Mount Union, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Mizak) Homolash. He was united in marriage Aug. 26, 1956, to Anna Mitchell, who survives at home. The deceased is survived by three sons: Joseph L., Clearwater, Fla.; Michael J.. St. Petersburg; Scott M., Tampa, Fla.; and five grandchildren. Two sisters survive: Ann K. Homolash and Mrs. Stephen J. Calupca, both of Mount Union. Mr. Homolash was a graduate of Mount Union High School, Class of 1948. Through the years, he was an avid golfer. Mr. Homolash entered the United States Air Force July 10, 1950, and served in Vietnam. After 21 years with the Air Force, he worked with the United States Postal Service for 26 years. PROUGH, 81, of 711 Church St., Apt. 706, Huntingdon, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at 2:15 p.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Feb. 23, 1920, in Todd Township, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Edith (Snook) Stapleton. She married George E. Prough Sept. 9. 1939, in Cassville. Also surviving are five sisters and a brother: Lois Younkins, Aydlett, NC.; Helena Maxine Nearhood, Three Springs; Phyllis Campbell, Saltillo; Ellie Cutshall, Orbisonia; Vivian Carbaugh. Chambersburg; and Denver Leighton, St. Thomas. Mrs. Harries attended the Faith Assembly of God Church in New Cumberland. She was a former employee of the Mechanicsburg Navy Depot and she retired from the New Cumberland Army Depot. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 11 am., at the Faith Assembly of God Church. Interment will be made in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township.
