VARNER, 87, of East Waterford, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at his home. Born Nov. 14, in Mount Union, he was a son of the late James M. and Alva (Shore) Varner. His wife, Ruth (Jones) Varner, survives. He is survived by two sons, Martin S. Varner, Blairs Mills,and George T. Varner, Mifflintown. There are three grandchildren and four great-granddaughters. One brother and three sisters survive: George Varner, East Waterford; Sarah Clayton, Mercersburg; and Pearl Burdge and Dorothy Fultz, both of East Waterford. One brother, James Varner, preceded him in death. Mr. Varner attended Rock Assembly of God Church, HCR 67, Mifflin. He was a member of the East Waterford Fire Company and Lack Tuscarora EMS. He was a retired assistant superintendent for Penn DOT. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Rock Assembly of God Church, with the Revs. Robert Varner, Harvey Fry and Paul Parrish officiating. Interment will be in the Book Cemetery, Richvale. Wilma H. WEBB, 82, of 601 E. Walnut St., Lewistown, died at 10:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at her residence. Born Jan. 2, 1920, in Shade Gap, she was a daughter of the late Thomas C. and Mary Ann (Appleby) Murphy. She was married to Blaine W. Webb who preceded her in death Jan. 15, 1990. She is survived by one daughter, Glenda E. (Glunt) Varner of Lewistown. One sister, Esther M. Glunt of Shade Gap also survives. There are three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Five brothers and four sisters preceded her in death: William, Warren, Merril, Leo and Dean Murphy and Erma Jaymes, Dessie Hampton, Alda Snyder and Naomi McCartney. A granddaughter, Lucinda R. Varner, preceded her in death in 1991. Mrs. Webb was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Lewistown, where she was a member of the Loyal Ladies Bible Class and the Church Seniors Group. Primarily a homemaker, she was employed by Fisher's Electronics, Milroy, for six years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Shade Gap Bible Church, Shade Gap, with the Rev. Howard D. Houtz officiating. Interment will be made in Shade Gap Cemetery, Shade Gap. Lee O. RICHARDS SR., 96, formerly of 207 Pine St., Huntingdon (Smithfield Twp.), died at 1:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at The Oaks at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon. Born Feb. 1, 1906, in Julian, he was the son of David Alexander and Cecilia Esther (Spotts) Richards. He was united in marriage to Edith R. Shope Feb. 20, 1926, in Huntingdon by the Rev. G.R. Albans. Mrs. Richards preceded him in death July 28, 2002. He is survived by two sons and one daughter: Harold E. Richards, Hollidaysburg; Lee O. Richards Jr., Hermitage; and Betty L. Stone, Lexington, Ky. There are 15 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, David E. Richards, and two sisters, Ella Mae Erickson and Minnie Frances Herritt. He was preceded in death by one son, David E. Richards, and two sisters, Ella Mae Erickson and Minnie Frances Herritt. He also had a half-brother, Charles Irvin, and two half-sisters, Julia Irvin and Mary Irvin. Mr. Richards was a member of Twelfth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, where he had served as president of the board of trustees, a member of the Pastor-Parish Relations Board, and was the administrative board representative to the annual conference on several occasions. He also taught the Men's Sunday School class. He was a past president and vice president of the Huntingdon Lions Club. A long-time Mason, he was a York Rite member of Mount Moriah Lodge No. 300 F&AM Blue Lodge, Huntingdon; past high priest of Chapter No. 201; past commander of Knights Templar Lodge No. 65, Huntingdon, which he served as treasurer for 18 years; and the State College Council. As a Scottich Rite member he belonged to the Valley of Altoona Consistory. He was also a member of Jaffa Shrine Temple, Altoona. A life member of Smithfield Volunteer Fire Company, he also served as Smithfield Township's assessor for 39 years. He was a past board member of Standing Stone Senior Citizens, Huntingdon. In 1936, he was employed at the Pennsylvania Industrial School, which later became the State Correctional Institution Huntingdon, retiring from SCIH in 1971 as the superintendent of the woodworking and furniture shops. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Tiffany M. Freeman officiating. Interment will be made in Mooresville Cemetery, Petersburg. John L. HANCOCK SR. of R.R. 1, Box 1302, Hill Valley, Mount Union, died at 3:35 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Although he had been in failing health, his death was unexpected. Born Jan. 10, 1916, in Rockhill Furnace, he was a son of the late Tone L. and Edith (Bard) Hancock. He married the former Zelda McCartney, June 10, 1939, in Hagerstown, Md. Mrs. Hancock survives at home. Six children survive: John L. Hancock Jr., Mount Union; Wanda K. Staubs, Las Vegas, Nex.; Mrs. Fred (Judy L.) Taylor and Mrs. Francis (Pamela E.) Crouse, both of Hill Valley, Mount Union; Mrs. Harold (Pennie J.) Wyland, Loretto; and Dennis J. Hancock, Mount Union. There are 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister and four brothers: Mrs. Rachel Keith, Orbisonia; Fred M. Hancock, Mount Union; Daniel B. Hancock and Wilmer O. Hancock both of Mount Union; and George W. Hancock, Johnstown. He was preceded in death by two sister: Betty Kelly and Amanda Ford, and one brother, Thomas Hancock. Mr. Hancock was of the Methodist faith. He was a former member of the Mount Union Area School District Board of Education; the board of the Union National Bank (now First Commonwealth Bank); the Loyal Order of Moose, Huntingdon Chapter; BPO Elks Lodge of Huntingdon; the Allenport Lions Club; the Grocery Association of Pennsylvania; the Huntingdon County Republican Club; and various other organizations. A staunch Republican, he also served as a Republican committeeman in Huntingdon County for many years. He was a patron to numerous charities. Many area ball teams benefited from his generosity by playing ball on a field that was maintained on his land. Reared in Hill Valley, he attended a one-room elementary school. In his early life, he worked for the CC Camp. He was employed at North American Refractories in Mount Union, when he opened Hancock's Service Station June 1, 1935. He continued to work at the brickyard for several years. The store remains in operation today and has been a mainstay in the lives of Hill Valley residents for the past 67 years. Mr. Hancock enjoyed sharing his wealth of knowledge about the History of Hill Valley. At one time, enjoyed hunting and deep sea fishing. He derived immense pleasure from visits with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. Officiating will be the Rev. Jennifer Deutsch Thomas, pastor of the Singer's Gap United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Rich Morris, pastor of the Hicks United Methodist Church, and grandson-in-law of the deceased. Interment will be made in Mount Union Cemetery. Luetta R. WELCH, 82, of Port Matilda, died at 6:50 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at the Centre Crest Home, Bellefonte. Born Feb. 27, 1920, at Orviston, she was a daughter of William A. and Clara B. (Singer) Walker. She was united in marriage to Daniel W. Welch Nov. 6, 1940, in Tyrone. Mr. Welch preceded her in death Oct. 16, 1969. She is survived by three daughters and one son: Patricia Goss, Juniata, Altoona; Barbara Lightner, Petersburg, Nancy McCloskey, Bellefonte; and Daniel Lee Welch, Port Matilda. There are nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. One sister, Dorothy Kinley of Lock Haven, survives. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Mrs. Welch was a member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, Port Matilda. For many years, she was a babysitter, especially for the Holmes Family. Interment will be made at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Port Matilda. Thomas L. NEWINGHAM, 75, of 211 Silverford Heights Road, Mount Union,died at approximately 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at his home while mowing grass. Born Sept. 3, 1927, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Carl and Madeline (Anderson) Newingham. He was united in marriage to Betty L. Hughes Feb. 3, 1953. His wife of 46 years preceded him in death Dec. 14, 1999. He is survived by one daughter and two sons: Tonya L. Guzman, Thomas L. Newingham, and Troy L. Newingham, all of Mount Union. There are nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister: Jack Newingham, Huntingdon; William Newingham, Hesston; and Mrs. Boyd (Dorothy) Henry, Huntingdon. Mr. Newingham was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mount Union. He was a member of Simpson-Hunt Post No. 107 American Legion,Mount Union. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. For 45 years, he was a self-employed painter and retired in 1994. He enjoyed mowing his lawn, fishing and golfing. LAUNTZ, 89, of The Oaks at Westminster Woods, 360 Westminster Drive, Huntingdon, died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at the Oaks, formerly of James Creek, Penn Twp. He had resided at Westmister Woods since January 2001, in his usual health, his death was unexpected. Born Feb. 27, 1913, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Richard A. and Florence (Horton) Launtz. He was united in marriage to Marybelle Frank Aug. 29, 1942, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church (now Twelfth Street United Methodist Church), by the Rev. Bud Smith. Mrs. Launtz preceded him in death March 4, 1993. He is survived by two sons and one daughter: Jeffrey D. Launtz, James Creek; Mrs. Robert D. (Darla) Bickel, Lake City, Fla.; and Gary S. Launtz, Hollidaysburg. There are six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One brother, Charles H. Launtz of Huntingdon survives. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. One sister, Mrs. John (Helen) Peterson, preceded him in death. Mr. Launtz was a member of Saint Matthews Lutheran Church, Marklesburg, where he served for a number of years as a Sunday School Teacher. He was a 57-year life member and past commander of the Frank P. Hommon Post No. 24, American Legion, Huntingdon and served in several state and national offices of the American Legion. He was a charter member of the Marklesburg Volunteer Fire Company, Marklesburg; a member of 40 & 8; a 50-year member of Lincoln Grange No. 914; and a member of Woodcock Valley Lions Club. He was a member of the Former American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps. He attended the Huntingdon public schools. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the American Theatre of Operations. He was employed by the J.C. Blair Company and its successor, Mead School and Office Products. He was also employed by the Pennsylvania Youth Forestry Camp from where he retired in 1976. A stamp and pencil collector, Mr. Launtz was also an artist, working in pastels, charcoal and watercolor. He was an avid fly-fisherman. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with the Rev. Donald J. Costlow officiating. Interment will be made in the Old Stone Church Cemetery, James Creek, Penn Twp. William N. DUEY, 88, of 357 Clay Ave., Tyrone, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Tyrone Hospital, Tyrone, following an extended illness. Born Nov. 17, 1913, in Tyrone, he was the son of David C. and Gertrude (Walker) Duey. He was united in marriage to Alva Carson Sept. 12, 1936, in Cumberland, Md. Mrs. Duey preceded him in death March 3, 1998. One son, William E. Duey of Tyrone, survives. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was the last of his immediate family. Mr. Duey was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Tyrone. He was a life member of BPOE No. 212, Tyrone; a life member of LOOM No. 25, Tyrone; and a member of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company, Tyrone. He was also a member of the United Transportation Workers Union and for 19 years was a member of the 104th Cavalry Regiment of the Pennsylvania National Guard. Mr. Duey retired in 1975 as a freight conductor with the Middle Division of the Pennsylvania/Penn Central Railroad after 31 years service. He enjoyed hunting and meeting with his retired railroad friends. An avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed attending the Altoona Curve games. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles A. Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Robert Bruce WHITTAKER, 77, of R.R. 1, Box 234 B, Huntingdon, died unexpectedly at 4:35 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at his home. Born March 4, 1925, in Smithfield Twp., he was a son of the late Edgar Bruce and Anna (Huyette) Whittaker. He is survived by five sons: Scott Whittaker of Alexandria; and Patrick, Robert, Tanner and Luke Whittaker, all of Hartslog Valley, Huntingdon. There are three grandsons. One sister and one brother survive: Betty Coblentz, Pittsburgh, and Charles Whittaker, Denver, Colo. He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Whittaker. Mr. Whittaker attended Huntingdon Presbyterian Church. He was a charter member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks- Lodge No. 976, Huntingdon. He was a graduate of Alexandria High School. After 25 years of service in General construction, he retired from Stran Steel. In his younger days he was an avid motorcyclist. He enjoyed playing his harmonica at family gatherings and enjoyed "Big Band Sound" music. Daily trips to the Juniata Valley Senior Citizens Center were important to him. He enjoyed woodworking and hunting. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Huntingdon Presbyterian Church, Fifth and Mifflin streets, Huntingdon, with the Revs. Richard Gardiner and David Benfer officiating. Ralph E. GARNER, 83, of R.R. 1, Box 198, Hesston, died at 6:58 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, in the emergency room of J.C.Blair Memorial Hospital. He had been in his usual health and his death was unexpected. Born Feb. 11. 1919, in Penn Twp., Huntingdon County,he was a son of the late Homer and Della (Brumbaugh) Garner. He was united in marriage to the former Winifred I. Norris Sept. 16, 1937, at James Creek Church of the Brethren. Mrs. Garner survives at their home. One son and three daughters survive: Ronald R. Garner, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Paul (Shirley I.) Hockenberry, Germantown, Md.; Mrs. Stan (Bonnie K.) Risser, Martinsburg; and Mrs. Charles (Deborah M.) Seavers, Martin, Tenn. There are eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is survived by one sister and one brother: Mrs. Ronald (Dorothy) McCall, Chambersburg, and Eugene Garner, James Creek. One daughter Connie I. Garner preceded him in death. Mr. Garner was a lifelong member of James Creek Church of the Brethren. He was a member of Marklesburg Volunteer Fire Company. A 1936 graduate of Huntingdon High School, he also attended Juniata College. He retired, in 1984, from E.B. Endres Lumber Company, Huntingdon, where he was a cabinetmaker. He served as tax collector of Penn Twp. for 30 years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Robert Hayes HOLDER, 39, of 11 Hillcrest Road, Manalapan, N.J., died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at his home following a brief illness. Born April 21, 1963. in Huntingdon. he was the son of Robert W. Holder and Genevieve (Cinsis) Shields, both of Shirleysburg. He was united in marriage to the former Debra Kutsup Sept. 24, 1994, at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Avenel. N.J. Mrs. Holder survives at their home. He is survived by two sisters; Lucy Jane Holder, Mt. Union; andMarianne Russo of Rahway. N.J.. Mr. Holder was a member of St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Avenel. A 1981 graduate of Mount Union Area High School, he was a diesel mechanic for Almasi Companies, Woodbridge, N.J. Emily (Ford) TEW, 67, of 712 Weaver St., Saxton, died at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at her home, following a lengthy illness. Born Dec. 18, 1934, in Wood, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mildred (Whited) Ford. She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Bopp of St. Michael. There are three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two sisters survive: Helen Gates of Saxton and Lois Taylor of South Fork. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters: James Ford, Edward Ford, Evelyn Cornell and Patricia Monett. Mrs. Tew was a member of Raystown Brethren Church, Saxton. Primarily a homemaker, she enjoyed watching television. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor Alfred Chamberlain officiating. Interment will be made in Bunker Hill Cemetery, Saxton. Gladys G. LAMBERSON, 78, of 611 S. Jefferson St., Mount Union, died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, following an extended illness. Born Sept. 12, 1924, in Baltimore, Md., she was a daughter of the late Herman and Elizabeth (Davis) Gunter. She was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Lamberson April 6, 1945, in Baltimore. Mr. Lamberson survives. One daughter, Mrs. Paul (Patricia) Veitch of Mount Union, survives. There are one grandson, and one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. Three sisters and two brothers survive: Mrs. Albert (Clara) Geckle, Mount Union; Mrs. Maida Hudgins, Virginia; Mrs. Robert (Nancy) Reitz, Glen Burnie, Md.; Howard Gunter, New Bloomfield; and David Gunter, Mount Union. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Virginia Gunter, who died in infancy, and Toni Maranto. Mrs. Lamberson was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mount Union. She was a member of the Bricktown Seniors, Mount Union. She attended Kenwood High School, Baltimore. Following high school, she was employed by Western Electric, Baltimore, then by Hutzler's Department Store, also in Baltimore, as a buyer. She also worked for the former L. Greif Bros. Mfg., Mount Union. In 1949, she entered business with her husband, where she worked for many years as office manager for K.L. Lamberson Inc., Mount Union. She hosted a card club in her home. She was generous in her giving, as exemplified by the number of birthday parties she voluntarily gave in her home for others who had not ever had their birthday celebrated. Mrs. Lamberson enjoyed oil painting and crocheting as pastimes. She also enjoyed traveling and camping. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Robert Davidson officiating. Interment will be made in the Garden of Honor in the Mount Union Cemetery. Ruth Anita LANTZ, 41, of Mount Union, died at 12:47 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, in the emergency room at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Oct. 28, 1961, in Union Twp., Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of Earl L. and Betty (Abbott) Wagner, both deceased. She is survived by three children and one granddaughter. A sister, Joan Wagner of Huntingdon, survives. Ms. Lantz attended the First Assembly of God Church in Mount Union. She was a 1979 graduate of Mount Union Area High School and was a member of Mount Union area. She was primarily a homemaker. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the First Assembly of God Church, Mount Union, with the Rev. Gordon Ross officiating. Sara (Yocum) LUTZ, 99 a resident of the Oaks at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon, formerly of 1010 Spruce St., Hillcrest apartments, Hollidaysburg, died at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at the Oaks. She was born March 10, 1903, in Huntingdon, the daughter of Horatio G. and Ada (White) Yocum, both deceased. She was united in marriage to Paul Leroy Lutz June 4, 1927. Mr. Lutz preceded her in death Jan. 4, 1948. Mrs. Lutz is survived by one son, David S. Lutz of Charlottesville, Va.; one daughter, Patricia Ann Lutz of Melbourne, Fla.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Mrs. Lutz was a member of the St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Huntingdon. She attended Huntingdon public schools and was a 1921 graduate of Huntingdon High School. She graduated from Juniata College in the Class of 1925. She served as an elementary school teacher at the William Smith School in Huntingdon for 19 years. Mrs. Lutz remained a resident of Huntingdon until 1983. She lived in California from 1983 to 1985, when she moved to Hollidaysburg. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with Rev. Peter J. Naschke officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. Jane W. GROSS, 86, formerly of Meadow Lane, Orrville, Ohio, died early Wednesday morning, November 6, at Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Orrville, where she had resided for the last year. The daughter of the late James N. and Emma (Milliken) Warfel, she was born Dec. 12, 1915. She was united in marriage to David R. Gross April 23, 1943, in Huntingdon. Mr. Gross preceded her in death July 18, 2001. She is survived by one son, John Christian Gross of Ceres, Va.; and one daughter, Mrs. Matthew (Catharine) Musho of Granger, Ind. There are three grandchildren. Two brothers, John Warfel and James Warfel, preceded her in death. Mrs. Gross was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Orrville. She held an associate degree from Juniata College, Huntingdon. She was a former substitute teacher for Orrville Schools. In the 1950s, she had worked for the Virginia Welfare Department. A resident of Orrville since 1961, she was a homemaker most of her life. She enjoyed craftwork with beads and playing bridge. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the Faith United Methodist Church (formerly Manor Hill United Methodist Church), Petersburg, with the Rev. Joleen Willis officiating. Interment will be made in Manor Hill Cemetery. Lillian L. EVERETTS, 83, formerly of Hesston, and later of DeForrest Apartments, Huntingdon, died at 3:05 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, where she had resided for the past six years. Born March 14, 1919, in Smithfield Twp., she was the daughter of the late George E. and Mary A. (Brenneman) Hefright. She married Oscar E. Everetts Aug. 24, 1945, in Hagerstown, Md. He preceded her in death Jan. 22, 1991. Surviving are five daughters and a son: Barbara Benson of Three Springs; Joyce Try of Chambersburg; Glenda Baker of Mapleton; Marcia Kyle of Hesston; Wayne Everetts of McVeytown and Wanda Hess of Three Springs. There are 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter. Mrs. Everetts was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Hefright and Edgar Hefright. Primarily a homemaker during her lifetime, Mrs. Everetts had worked at the L. Greif Brothers Co. sewing factory in Mount Union at one time. She loved cats, crocheting, puzzles, bingo and baseball. According to the wishes of the deceased, there will be no public visitation. A private funeral service will be held at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, at the Convenience of the family. "Moose" HOLLAND, 63, of Hesston, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at Altoona Hospital. Born Feb. 3, 1939, in Huntingdon, he was the son of Warren J. Sr. and Margaret M. (Getz) Holland, both deceased. Mr. Holland is survived by his companion of 32 years, Shirley J. Hockenberry, at their home, and his former wife, Emma L. (Prough) Wagner of Mount Union. He is survived by three daughters and two sons: Teresa A. Holland of Shirleysburg, Dawn R. Leonard of Mount Union, Lloyd A. Hockenberry of Saxton, April J. Hockenberry of Huntingdon, and John A. Hockenberry of Hesston, and six grandchildren. A sister, Patricia A. Getic of Altoona, survives. He was preceded in death by one brother, Warren J. Holland Jr. Mr. Holland was of the Protestant faith. He served in the W.S. Army and Army Reserves. He was a member of Huntingdon County Emergency Services, Central District Firemen's Association, Huntingdon County Firemen's Association, Marklesburg Volunteer Fire Company (life Member), McConnellstown Volunteer Fire Company, Huntingdon County Fire Chiefs Association, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 223 in Huntingdon and the Woodcock Valley Sportsman's Club. He was also a coach for the Downtown Tigers of the Huntingdon Area Pee Wee Football League and was well known throughout the area for playing Santa Claus for various organizations. Mr. Holland was first employed at Boyle's Ice Plant, then as a custodian at Penn State University. He worked at Harbison-Walker Refractories in Mount Union for 20 years and at Claster's in Huntingdon for 10 years, retiring in 2000. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed collecting antiques and attending auctions and flea markets. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Robert E. TICE, 79, of Hustontown, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at her home. Born July 11, 1923, in Taylor Twp., Fulton County, she was the daughter of Edgar J. and Junie (Sipes) Berkstresser, both deceased. She was married to Ray A. Tice, who preceded her in death Feb. 7, 1973. Mrs. Tice is survived by two children, Lee A. Tice and Linda R. Englert, both of Hustontown, and five grandchildren. Betty Jane COX, 82, of Somerset, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at Somerset Hospital, Somerset. Born Oct. 7, 1920, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late William Archibald Sr. and Georgia Amelia (Zembower) Gump. She was united in marriage to Edward William "Bill" Cox, who preceded her in death Feb. 4, 1980. She is survived by two sons: Warren W. Cox of Stoystown, and Edward A. Cox of Somerset. There are four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One brother and two sisters also survive: Elwood T. Interment will be made in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon. Thomas E. STONE, 53, of James Creek, died unexpectedly at 7:35 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, in Lincoln Twp. Born Feb. 7, 1949, in Huntingdon, he was the son of Harold Fouse Stone, who preceded him in death, and Eva Mae (Donelson) Stone, who survives at James Creek. He is survived by his companion, Beverly Boozel; two children, Thomas E. Stone Jr. of Saxton, and Sherry Swope of Wood; and four grandchildren. A sister, Lori A. Moore of Entriken, and two brothers, George A. Stone of James Creek, and J. Michael Stone, Huntingdon, survive. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter and an infant sister. STATES, 80, of R.R. 1 Box 55, Huntingdon, died at 9:57 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Born May 16, 1922, in Todd, he was the son of Elmer and Irene (Creswell) States. He married Mary G. Bowman April 26, 1945. She survives at home. He is also survived by a daughter and a son, Mrs. David (Brenda K.) Coder of Mapleton and William R. States of Huntingdon, along with three step-grandchildren. Two sisters, Jennie Diggins and Delena Montz, both of McConnellstown, also survive. He was preceded in death by three sisters. Mr. States was a member of the McConnellstown United Methodist Church. He was a life member of the McConnellstown Volunteer Fire Company and a member of the McConnellstown Fire Police and of Teamsters Local No. 110. During his life, he worked as a primary crusher operator for New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. of McConnellstown and retired from the company with 45 years of service. Richard Cortright SHOEMAKER, 86, of Donahoe Manor Nursing Home, Bedford, formerly of Saxton, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at the nursing home. Born Dec. 3, 1915, in Shickshinny, he was the son of Harry and Martha (Cortright) Shoemaker, both deceased. He married Martha Masood Nov. 16, 1941, in Winchester, Va. He was preceded in death by his wife Oct. 2, 1998. Mr. Shoemaker is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Mahlon (Jane) Dimond of Bedford and Mrs. Jay (Martha A. "Marci") Muir of Huntingdon, and two granddaughters. A brother, Robert Shoemaker of Fayetteville, survives. Mr. Shoemaker was a member of the Saxton United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for 50 years. He was a member of the Penn State Blue Band Alumni organization, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the Penn State Alumni Association and was very active with the Saxton Community Library board. Mr. Shoemaker was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the European Theatre. He was a graduate of Penn State University and retired from the Tussey Mountain School District in 1977, after 40 years of service as a music education instructor. Josephine R. PEDUZZI, 95, corner of Shirley and Jefferson Streets, Mount Union, died at 9:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at her home. Born July 29, 1907, in Grayston, Indiana County, she was the daughter of Joseph and Richilde (Ferari) Racasi, both deceased. She was united in marriage to Carl J. Peduzzi Nov. 25, 1937, at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Tyrone. Mr. Peduzzi preceded her in death Aug. 4, 1991. She is survived by three daughters, Teresa Peduzzi of Fairfax, Va., Carol Jo Mills of Staunton, Va., and Mary Lou Peduzzi of Mount Union; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Peduzzi was a member of St.Catherine's Catholic Church, Mount Union, where she organized the Court of St. Catherine No. 1992 Catholic Daughters and became the organization's first regent. She was a member of the Mount Union Area Historical Society, a charter member of the Mount Union Women's Club where she held numerous offices, an honorary member of the Mount Union Volunteer Fire Company and a member of both the Huntingdon and Lower Huntingdon County Hospital Auxiliaries. She was a also a member of the Mount Union Art Guild, the Mount Union Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Huntingdon County Literary Society and a contributing member of the Mount Union Area Alumni Association. Mrs. Peduzzi was a 1926 graduate of Tyrone High School. With her husband she co-owned Peduzzi's Confectionery Store in Mount Union. She enjoyed painting, cross stitch and writing poetry. Alton Wayne KELLY, 75, a resident of Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, formerly of Burnt Cabins, died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Woodland. Christopher Stephen BECKER, 22, of 13447 Greencastle Pike, Hagerstown, Md., died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002. Born July 5, 1980, in Bedford, he was the son of Rick L. and Angela L. (Powers) Becker who survive in Hagerstown. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Jessica Nicole Becker, Hagerstown. He is also survived by his paternal grandfather, Marvin J. Born Aug. 20, 1931, in Newton Hamilton, she was a daughter of the late Charles C. and Eleanor (Price) Needy. She was united in marriage to Lawrence L. Knable Jr. Dec. 24, 1948, at the Newton Hamilton Methodist Church Parsonage. Mr. Knable preceded her in death Jan. 4, 1987. She is survived by her six grandchildren: Amy Jo Brumbaugh, Hummelstown; Alison Sue Dimoff, Newton Hamilton; Kirk A. Knable, Shirleysburg; Angela Claycomb, Middletown; Alan R. Sunderland, McVeytown; and Alicia L. Knable, Silverford Heights, Mount Union. There are five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Phyllis Sue Sunderland, and her son. Reed "Pete" HUFF, 75, of Orbisonia died at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Feb. 19, 1927, in Kentucky, he was a son of the late Hampton and Dorothy (Trail) Huff. A companion of 18 years, Toni Costa, survives at their home. One step-granddaughter, Mrs. Kevin (Joanna) Allison of Boston, Mass., was reared by Mr. Huff. He is also survived by five step-children: Judi Booher, Three Springs; George Norris, Mount Union; Vickie Group, Chambersburg; Bonnie Zinobile, Orbisonia; and Tina Jones, Montgomery City, Mo. Born July 26, 1919, in Quebec, Canada, she was a daughter of the late Harold L. and Clara (Vernon) Plummer. She was united in marriage to Elmer Shelton Heath April 17, 1951, in Pottstown. Mr. Heath preceded her in death May 21, 1982. One daughter survives: May Elizabeth Plummer Stewart of Huntingdon. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Born July 28, 1933, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marie (Schmidt) Bremer. He was united in marriage to the former Mary Jane Kyler Sept. 28, 1953. Mrs. Bremer survives at their home. Four daughters survive: Denise Strauser and Valerie Rupert, both of Shade Gap; Corinne Cowan, Neelyton; and Elizabeth Price, Burnt Cabins. There are 11 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and three sisters: Paul Bremer, Shippensburg; Carl Foster, Saxton; Joan Bremer, Red Lion; Eileen Thomas, Carlisle; and Bettie Johnson, Naples, Fla. One son, Joseph, preceded him in death. Mr. Bremer was a member of the Latta Grove United Methodist Church, Mapleton. He was a member of Madden Wennick Post 518, American Legion, Rockhill Furnace. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served with the U.S. Army. He retired in 1990 from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, after 35 years service. Prior to that, he was employed by General Electric Corp., Bellevue, Ohio. He had also cut wood for the Gladfelter Pulpwood Co. John Beaver BROWN, 79, of 633 Warm Springs Ave, Huntingdon, died at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at The Oaks at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon. He had resided at his Warm Springs Avenue address since 1935. Born July 23, 1923, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Carl F. and Ada (Beaver) Brown. He was united in marriage to Nancy Mae (Smith) Brown June 28, 1952, in Bethany Reformed Church, Ephrata, by the Rev. Myron A. Eichner. Mrs. Brown preceded him in death Dec. 14, 1994. He is survived by two sons and one daughter: John B. Brown Jr., Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.; Thomas F. Brown, State College; and Mrs. J. William (Susan Elizabeth Brown) Rumbaugh, Huntingdon. There are two grandchildren. Two brothers, Carl F. Brown Jr. and Richard Brown, both of Huntingdon, survive. He is also survived by his dear friend, Ms. Gene A. Smith. Mr. Brown was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, where he taught Sunday School and served on both the board of trustees and the administrative board. He was a 50-year member and past president of the Huntingdon Rotary Club; a 50-year member of Mount Moriah Lodge No. 300 F&AM; a member of Valley of Altoona, AASR; Jaffa Temple, AAONMS; Royal Order of Jesters, Altoona Court No. 70; Huntingdon Commandery No. 65, Knights Templar; Standing Stone Royal Arch Chapter No. 201; Holy Royal Arch Masons; Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge No. 976, Huntingdon; Past president and former member of the Huntingdon Country Club and life member of the Huntingdon Fire Dept. He was also past president, past secretary and trustee emeritus of the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital Board to trustees, which he served for over 25 years; a member of Huntingdon County Business & Industry; past president and fund drive chair of the Huntingdon United Way; member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity at The Pennsylvania State University; and a former member of the Juniata Valley Funeral Directors Association, the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association and National Funeral Directors Association. During World War II, he attained the rank of Lieutenant (jg) in the U.S. Navy while serving in the Pacific Theatre of Operations aboard the USS Berrien (APA 62). He attended the William Smith Elementary School and graduated from Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1941. A 1947 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, with a BS in Chemistry, he also graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science with the Class of 1950. A funeral director in Huntingdon for over 50 years, upon his retirement, he was the chairman of the board of both the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Huntingdon, and the Koch Funeral Home, State College. He began his career in funeral service in 1947, succeeding his father Carl; his grandfather, Phillip, in the family business founded in 1865. Mr. Brown was instrumental in founding or operating numerous Huntingdon and Centre county businesses and served as a board member of Microdata Systems Inc., State College, until his death. A recipient of numerous community service awards and honors, he was most recently honored with the 2002 Good Scout Award from the Juniata Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Glen WORTHING, 96, of Homewood Retirement Center, Martinsburg, died at 3:55 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Homeward, following an extended illness. Born Sept. 26, 1906, at Saxton, R.R., he was a son of the late Thomas and Lillie Mae (Entriken) Worthing. He was united in marriage to Dorothy VonMoos Dec. 27, 1925, in the Saxton Reformed Church, Saxton. Mrs. Worthing preceded him in death July 24, 1978. He is survived by the following children: Glen F. Worthing, Duncansville; Lillie Ann Brennan, Martinsburg; and Thomas J. Worthing, Middletown. There are five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. One daughter, Zola Wineland, preceded him in death. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and five sisters. Mr. Worthing was a member of the Brethren Church, Saxton. He was a member of Everett Lodge No. 524 F&AM; Altoona Consistory, Jaffa Shrine and the Broad Top Area Senior Citizens. He was a 50-year member of UMWA District 2, Local 1968. From 1957-1995, he was a member of the board of directors of Broad Top Area Burial Association. He worked as a coal miner in the Broad Top area for 28 years. After several years of work at various construction jobs, he worked for PennDOT, retiring March 22, 1972, after 10 years of service. Interment will be made in Fockler Cemetery, Saxton. Veda Ellen RHOAT, 82, of Robertsdale, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at her residence. Born in McConnellstown, June 25, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Martha Hess. She was united in marriage to John W. Rhoat in 1940, in Maryland. Mr. Rhoat preceded her in death Nov. 22, 1958. She is survived by four sons: John Rhoat, Tom Rhoat and Timmy Rhoat, Wells Tannery. There are 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother survive: Helen Allen, Ohio; Boots Wilson, Sanatoga; and James Hess, Ohio. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Cross; one son, Richard Rhoat; and three brothers. She was also preceded in death by a companion of over 30 years, Carl Julian, March 23, 1989. Mrs. Rhoat was of the Protestant faith. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, birds, sports, sewing and quilting. Carlton Edwin WICH, 100, of The Oaks at Westminster Woods, 360 Westminster Drive, Huntingdon, formerly of Huntingdon, R.R. 4, died at 7:10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2002, at The Oaks. He had resided at Westminster Woods since 1997. He had been in failing health for the past six months. Born July 12,1902, in Baltimore, Md., he was a son of the late Conrad L. and Mary (Wohn) Wich. He was married to Evelyn Pearl (Bollinger) Graham July 31, 1928, in Annapolis, Md. Mrs. Wich preceded him in death April 26, 1982. Two nieces and two nephews survive. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister; George Wich, Henry Wich and Clara Wich. Mr. Wich was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Baltimore. Md. He was a 73-year member of the Adherence Lodge No. 88, F&AM, Cockeysville, Md.; Baltimore Forest No. 45, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, since 1929; and a charter member of the Dr. John Coats Memorial Lodge No. 1787, Cockeysville. Md. He attended the Baltimore public schools. A 1923 graduate of St. John’s College, Annapolis, Md., he also graduated from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy with the Class of 1926. Retiring in 1959 as a self-employed pharmacist, Mr. Wich had started his own business in 1928 in Baltimore. He enjoyed traveling, particularly to Florida. Vera Evelyn BLACKBURN, 82, of Briar Valley Road, Bedford, died at 8:55 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at her Bedford Township residence. Born Nov. 27, 1919, in Dudley, she was a daughter of the late Leo and Edna (Mullen) Houck. She was united in marriage to Richard I. Blackburn Dec. 26, 1981. He preceded her in death Aug. 21, 1994. She is survived by one stepson and one stepdaughter; William R. Blackburn, West Chester; and Karen Beemiller, Cranberry. There are three step grandchildren. Charley Leroy SNYDER, 86, of HCR 75, Shade Gap, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at 11:40 p.m. at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg. Born July 7, 1916, in Dublin Township, he was the son of the late Franklin and Lillian (Hampton) Snyder. He was married to Lena Pauline Covert June 5, 1952, in Huntingdon, by the Rev. Edward Berkey. Mrs. Snyder survives at their Shade Gap home. He is survived by one son, Fred Snyder of Shade Gap . Also surviving are three sisters and one brother; Florence Diven, Dillsburg; Lois Hower, Mount Union; Audrey Appleby, Chambersburg; and Leonard Snyder, Shade Gap. One infant son and three sisters, Mildred Etter, Deloris Locke and Blanche Appleby, preceded him in death. She later married Ellsworth Vaughn Dec. 8, 1973. in White Springs. Mr. Vaughn preceded her in death May 29, 1974. She is survived by one daughter; Alice Walker of Three Springs; two sons; Enlow Campbell Jr. of Smithmills and Vernon T. Campbell of Martinsburg; and three stepchildren. Mrs. Secrest was born Jan. 15, 1910, in Penn Township, Huntingdon County, the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Matilda (Hawn) Grubb. She was married to Harry E. Wagner Sept. 15, 1946, at the Mapleton United Brethren Church by the Rev. E.E. Dunkleberger. Mrs. Fairbanks survives at their home. One son and three daughters survive; Dennis M. Fairbanks, Fairfax, Va.; Brenda K. Batchelor, Philipsburg; Karen S. Fairbanks, Huntingdon; and Dina M. Culbertson, Boothwyn. There are four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Fairbanks was a member of Twelfth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, where he had served as treasurer At the time of his death, he was the church historian. He was a life member of the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Company and had previously served the organization in the roles of secretary and president. He was a life member of Standing Stone Post 1754 VFW and Frank P. Hommon Post 24 American Legion, both of Huntingdon. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946, stationed in the Philippines. He received the Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one battle star. He retired from SCI Huntingdon in 1981 where he had worked in the steward’s department. An avid reader, especially of Westerns, he also enjoyed model railroading, crossword puzzles, gardening and his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. JACOBS, 20, of 101 Governors Park Road, Bellefonte, died at 2:50 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at Centre Community Hospital, College Township, State College. Born Oct. 20, 1982, in College Township, he was a son of David and Karen (Guyer) Jacobs. His mother survives in Port Matilda. His father and stepmother, Susanne Jacobs, survive in McVeytown. He is survived by two sisters and one brother; Cara Jacobs of Port Matilda, Kylee Jacobs of McVeytown and Chase Green of McVeytown. Born Dec. 17. 1936, in Fulton County, he was a son of the late Justus James and Nellie Viola (Simpson) Wilson. He was previously married to the former Elsie Jane Young. She survives in Pukwana. S.D. Born Oct. 7, 1921, in Brownsville, he was the son of LeRoy and Glenora May (Applegate) Rosier, both deceased. He was united in marriage to Mamie Ellen Ramsey June 30, 1946. He is survived by his wife at home. Two brothers, Harvey Rosier and LeRoy Rosier, both of Huntington Beach, Calif, and a sister, Rebecca Stafford of Springfield, Mo., survive. Mr Rosier was a member of the Church of Christ, Coalmont. He was a graduate of Cleveland’s Chiropractic College, California, with a degree in bioengineering. He was a doctor of chiropractic for 36 years, practicing in the state of California until his retirement in 1992, when he moved to Springfield Township. Born Feb. 24, 1929, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Edward and Gertrude (Clevenger) McMullen. both deceased. Mrs. Richards is survived by her husband, William F. Richards Jr. of Phoenixville. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley A. Richards of Schroon Lake, N.Y., and Mrs. Erich (Trish A.) Kinzel of Phoenixville; two sons, Russell A. Born April 13, 1945, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of George Asa and Grace Estella (Kifer) Capwell. Her mother survives in Saxton; her father is deceased. She was united in marriage to Gary William Robinson May 25, 1977, in Columbus, Ga. Mr. Robinson survives at their Fairfax home. One daughter, Zebula Lee Robinson, survives in Fairfax. Born April 3, 1918, in Altoona, he was the son of Fred A. and Lessie Mae (Ritchey) Decker, both deceased. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Elizabeth R. Chilcote, at their home. A daughter, Mrs. John (Frances) Baker of Allensville, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry E. Decker. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by one brother, Paul Decker Mr. Decker was a member of the Alexandria Presbyterian Church. He was currently serving as president of the Eye Care Agency of Huntingdon County. He was a member of Standing Stone Senior Citizens and was once a member of the Stone Creek Valley and Alexandria Lions clubs. He was employed as a lineman for Valley Rural Electric. He retired from Valley Rural Electric due to a work-related disability. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of Mr. Decker’s family with the Rev. John C. Dean officiating. Interment will be made in Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery. Lehman R. WILSON, 90, formerly of Mapleton, died at 5:10 am. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia. Born Aug. 10, 1912, in Shirley Township, he was a son of the late F Roy and Mildred (Snyder) Wilson. He was married to the former Iva J. Rutter. Mrs. Wilson preceded him in death May 26, 1982. Two sons and three daughters survive; Carl Wilson, Mapleton, R.R.; Ronald Wilson, Calvin; Darlene Hockenberry, Mount Union, R.R.; Janet Nead, Mapleton, R.R.; and Linda North, Orbisonia. There are seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters and three brothers; Florence Brown, Mount Union; Margaret Gilbert, St. Petersburg. Fla.; McClellan Wilson, Mount Union; Wilbur Wilson, Greencastle; and Elmer Wilson, Vero Beach, Fla. He was preceded in death by one brother, Morgan, and three sisters, Anna Booher, Lula Wilson and Catherine Danish. Mr. Wilson was of the Methodist faith. He retired in 1974 from J&L Steel Inc., Alliquippa, after 20 years service. Prior to that, he was employed at Harbison-Walker Refractories, Mount Union, for 13 years. Born Nov. 16, 1919, in Kistler, she was the daughter of Felice and Teresina (Gragnano) Ambrosino, both deceased. She was united in marriage to Anthony Blazevich Sept. 13, 1941, at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union. She was preceded in death by her husband Aug. 27, 1975. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Teresa) Norris of Mount Union, R.R. 3, and one granddaughter. A sister, Antoinette Griffith of Mount Union, survives. She was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters; Mary Heidel, Pellerino "Wedio" Ambrosino, Anella "Nellie" Imperioli, Rose Diferdinando, Concetta Anibrosino, Frank Ambrosino and Carmen Ambrosino. Mrs. Blazevich was a member of St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union. She was also a member of the Mount Union chapters of Catholic Daughters of America and Sons of Italy Lodge. She attended Mount Union area schools and was employed by L. Greif Bros. Manufacturing Company, Mount Union, for 30 years. She later retired on disability from U.S Sports in Huntingdon. She loved visiting her family and friends and enjoyed cooking and caring for her flowers. Interment will be made in St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery, Shirleysburg. George Thomas "Tom" ARNOLD, 65, of James Creek, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona. Born in Bedford Oct. 10, 1937, he was a son of the late George Kenneth and Mary Laverne (Stultz) Arnold. He was united in marriage to the former Margaret Jane "Peg" Sheehan July 19, 1975, in Hollidaysburg. Mrs. Arnold survives. He is survived by one son, Thomas George Arnold of Saxton. Four sisters survive; Mrs. Jack (Beverly) Seifert, Bedford; Mrs. Doug (Sandra) Goodhart, Chambersburg; Mrs. Dave (Mary Ann) Ebersole, Osterburg; and Gail Lynne Scritchfield, Bedford. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward, and a sister, Elaine Diehl. He was a member of the Saxton VFW and the Saxton Sportsmen Association. During the Korean Conflict, he served as an AMS 2 in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Essex. He was the owner/operator of Arnold’s Marine Sales, James Creek, for 25 years. Andrew John SABOLSICE, 76, of 7 Main St., Wood, died at 2:31 am. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona, following a brief illness. Born April 2, 1926, in Winburne, he was a son of the late Peter and Mary (Watro) Sabolsice. He never married. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he is survived by several cousins. Mr. Sabolsice was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Dudley, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. A graduate of Robertsdale High School, he served in the U.S. Army. Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Huntingdon Manor, Warm Springs Avenue, Huntingdon. Born June 5, 1909, in Robertsdale, she was a daughter of the late Raymond Herbert and Pearl Belle {Shafer) Bollinger. She was married to Ray E. Woodle June 25, 1931, in Huntingdon. Mr Woodle preceded her in death in 1985. Three children survive; Mrs. William (Gail) Witherow, Huntsville, Ala.; Boyd M. Woodle, North Huntingdon: and Dawn W Kagarise. Huntingdon, R.R. 4. There are two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. One granddaughter, Led Witherow, preceded her in death. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Harris and Fern Rutherford, and one brother, Maxwell Bollinger. Bruceton Road, Pittsburgh, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Kane Regional at Glen Hazel, Pittsburgh. She was born in her family home in Parsons, W.Va., April 25, 1917, the oldest daughter of the late Ralph Osborne and Melissa Kathryn "Kate" Varner Shrout. She was preceded in death by four brothers; George Walter Shrout, Robert Orval Shrout, James Elmer "Joney" Shrout and Joe Allen Shrout, and an infant sister. She was a graduate of Parsons High School Glass of 1935 and the first person in her high school and Tucker County, W.Va., to become a member of the National Honor Society. After graduation, she went to Washington, D.C., to serve as a governess and nanny for twin boys, returning to Parsons in 1937. She was married to Kenneth Gale Cutright at the home of her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Moore, Connellsville, Pa., May 22, 1937. They were married 57 years when Mr. Cutright died Feb. 14, 1995. She moved to the McKeesport, Pa., area in 1940 and remained there as an active member of the Liberty Borough community, until her move to Pleasant Hills in October 1997. After her marriage, Mrs. Cutright was predominately a wife, mother and homemaker. She did, however, work part-time with the Liberty School District as a clerk for both dental and medical exams for a long number of years. After caring for her own mother for over 20 years, she went back into the work force as a shopper for security with the G. C.. Murphy Company. Based in McKeesport, she and her husband traveled with the crew to stores in the eastern section of the United States and visited the former Washington Street, Huntingdon, store on many occasions. Mrs. Cutright was an active member of the Liberty Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, a member of the Berean Bible Class and the Friendship Group and a founding member of the Altar Guild. She had been a member of the Eastern Star for a long number of years. Mary K., as her friends knew her, was an avid homemaker and a fantastic cook and baker. For many years, she was noted for her gifts of fancy Christmas cookies to her friends, shut-ins and the elderly. She is survived by the following; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Gail Lautner, Pleasant Hills, Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Gerard and Amy Komondor, Eric and Debbie Lautner and Donald Scott Lautner; great-grandchildren, Kenneth and Corey Komondor and Lacie and Brayden Lautner, all of Pleasant Hills; and a son and daughter-in-law, Robert K. and Marjorie E. Cutright, Huntingdon; grandchildren, Jon D. Cutright, Huntingdon, and Don and Lori A. Gordon and great- granddaughter, Sarah Nicole Gordon, Bear, Del. She is also survived by a sister, Nelda Elizabeth McHenry, Pleasant Hills, and a sister-in-law, Maxine Shrout, Moorefield, W.Va. Services were held at the Liberty Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Morrow officiating and interment was in the Parsons Cemetery, Parsons, W.Va. Mabel S. MOORE, 98, died at 1:35 pm, Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Summerville, Port Orange, Fla. She had been in declining health for the past several weeks. A daughter of the late Robert and Effie (Shope) Spicer, she was born in Milesburg May 21, 1904. She was twice married. Her first husband, Leland E. Holland of Hollidaysburg, died at the age of 35 in 1935. She then married Walter C. Moore in 1939 and resided at Moore Acres Farm in Blair County. Mr. Moore preceded her in death in 1953. She is survived by one son, Elwood L. "Sam" Holland, Alexandria. There are three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. One granddaughter, Kathy Lynne Holland, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Moore was a member of the Alexandria Presbyterian Church, Alexandria. where she served as representative to the Presbyterian Home in Hollidaysburg. She was also on the pulpit committee. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. A 1921 graduate of Milesburg High School. Mileshurg, she was the class valedictorian. She completed additional education in business management. During the time she lived at Moore Acres Farm, she operated an antique shop in a portion of her home. After her husband’s death in 1953, she continued to live on the farm where she oversaw an angus beef and Shetland pony operation until 1967, when she ceased operations, and moved to Florida. She acquired the Eventide Motel in Daytona Beach. Fla. in 1967. She was the sole owner and operator for 30 years until 1997, when she retired and moved to an apartment. She enjoyed working in her antique shop and playing bridge with her many friends before moving to Florida. It was Mrs. Moore’s wish that there be no viewing or visitation. Elwood "Snooks" STRAUSER, 77, of 21 Maple St., Kistler, Mount Union, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at his home. He had been in failing health. A son of the late Harry Fern and Merle LaRue (Runk) Strauser, he was born July 18, 1925, in McVeytown. He was first married to the former Effie Florence Miller, who preceded him in death in November 1963. He was united in marriage to Waneta Mae Moore Nov. 12, 1964. Mrs. Strauser survives at their home. Eight children survive: Mrs. Dean (Linda Kay) Stapleton and James Floyd Strauser, both of Florida; Sharon Diane Strauser, Milroy; Tammy Jo Strauser, Belleville; Michael Alan Strauser, Shirleysburg; Mrs. Lee (Betty Jo) Dennison, Mount Union; Karl Donald Strauser, Philadelphia; and Mrs. James (Kerry Jo) Smyers, McVeytown. There are 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Three sisters survive: Vara Landis and Patricia Pierce, both of Lewistown, and Leona Pursel of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Benjamin Strauser; Harry "Buck" Strauser and Carl "Pete" Strauser. Mr. Strauser was a member of Otelia Mennonite Church, Mount Union. He retired in 1987 from Ford New Holland, Belleville, with 35 years service. Prior to that employment, he had been employed by Harbison-Walker Refractories, Mount Union, and by Standard Steel, Lewistown. He had also been a self-employed painter. He enjoyed gardening and deer hunting. Interment will be made in the Otelia Mennonite Cemetery. Chester K. "Ike" EICHELBERGER, 87, of Heritage Retirement Community, Tomball, Texas, died Tuesday Nov. 26, 2002, at the retirement community. Born Aug. 22, 1915, in Clear Springs, Md., he was the son of the late Jacob and Ruth (Hastings) Eichelberger. He was united in marriage to the former Ella V. Eichelberger Jan. 24, 1942, in Cumberland, Md. Mrs. Eichelberger preceded him in death in 1991. One son, Edward L. Eichelberger of Spring, Texas, survives. There are two grandchildren. He is survived by three sisters: Alma Suffecool, Clear Spring, Md.; Ruth Crist, Erlanger, Ky.; and Mary Whitney, Chambersburg. Mr. Eichelberger was member of the Church of God. During World War II, he served as a staff sergeant in the Air Force. He retired from Sun Pipeline Company after having worked in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan. Gladys (Faust) BOEHNING, 96, of Dade City, Fla., died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002. A daughter of Ira N. and Alwidda (Fultz) Faust, she was born in Mill Creek. One sister, Josephine Mateer, Huntingdon, survives. She was preceded in death by two brothers: William and Bernard, both of whom had lived in Huntingdon, and three sisters. Fred C. SHOPE, 63, died at 1:15 am. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at the Montgomery County Geriatric Center, Royersford, where he had been a resident for the past three years. Born Sept. 5, 1934, in Saltillo, he was a son of William F. and Grace (Rutter) Shope. His mother survives at Mapleton. RR. His father is deceased. He was united in marriage to the former Garnetta G. Fleck Jan. 23, 1956, in Saltillo. Mrs. Shope survives in Royersford. He is survived by two sons and one daughter: Dennis F. Shope, David I. Shope and Denise L. McKendrick, all of Royersford. Born Oct. 13, 1924, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late James V. Sr. and Catharine (Simpson) Harbaugh. His wife, the former Lois M. Kirk, survives at their home. He is survived by one son, Greg K. Harbaugh, Mantua, N.J., and one daughter, Mrs. Lee (Jamie B.) Bollinger, Huntingdon. There are five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Foster. Mr. Harbaugh was a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren, Huntingdon. He was a member of Standing Stone Post 1754 VFW, Frank P. Hommon Post 24, American Legion and Forty and Eight, all of Huntingdon. A graduate of Huntingdon High School, he was a member of the Class of 1942. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving with the 666th Ordnance Ammunition Company with overseas duty at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes. He was the equipment manager in the athletic department at Juniata College, Huntingdon, from where he retired in 1985. AYERS, 84, of Huntingdon Manor, Warm Springs Avenue, Huntingdon, formerly of West Twp., Petersburg, died at 4:20 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at the Manor. She had resided at the Manor for the past year. Born June 29, 1918, at the family home in West Twp., Petersburg, she was a daughter of the late Plummer J. and Marie (Keller) Port. She was united in marriage to C. Earl Ayers Dec. 24, 1936, in McConnellstown, by W. Ronald Yocum B.D. Mr. Ayers preceded her in death Dec. 17, 1994. She is survived by one son and one daughter: Earl P. Ayers and Shirley M. Wagner, both of Petersburg. She is also survived by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Two sisters survive: Mildred Brown, Huntingdon, and Mrs. Dean (Edith Poe) Yocum, Petersburg. She was preceded in death by an infant brother. Mrs. Ayers was a member of Faith (formerly Manor Hill) United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, where she had been a member of the Do For Others Sunday School Class. She attended public schools in West Twp. and was a lifetime resident of that twp. After 27 years of service with Owens Corning Fiberglas, Huntingdon, she retired from the winding department. Mrs. Ayers was an avid hunter and in her younger years, even bagged a few large eight-point bucks. KENNEDY, 90, of The Oaks at Westminster Drive, Huntingdon, formerly of Smithfield Township, Huntingdon, died at 10:55 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at The Oaks. Born in Altoona Nov. 1,1912, he was a son of the late Floyd C. and Mary B. Kennedy. He was united in marriage to the former Amber 0. Sidler March 28, 1937, at the 58th Street United Methodist Church, Altoona. Mrs. Kennedy preceded him in death June 5, 1985. He was preceded in death by several siblings. Mr. Kennedy was a member of the First Regular Baptist Church, Huntingdon, where he was a member and soloist in the church choir. He was a member of Mount Moriah Lodge No. 300, F&AM, Huntingdon; Valley of Altoona, AASR; Jaffa Temple, AAONMS and a member of and soloist for the Jaffa "Chanters." He was a former member of Kiwanis International. He was also a life member of the Pennsylvania State University Alumni Association. He attended the Altoona public schools and graduated from Altoona High School. He also graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with bachelor of science and master of education degrees. He was employed in Altoona and Hollidaysburg as a mechanic and service manager. From 1948-1960, he was a teacher in the Bradford City Area High School. From 1960 until his retirement in 1971, he was the educational director at SCI-Huntingdon. Following his formal retirement, he was a part-time teacher in the Juniata Valley and Huntingdon Area schoos. Well known as a CB radio operator, his "handle" was Triple 7s. Bette Jane "Bep" (Greene) HEINE, 84, of 3558 Cold Springs Road, Huntingdon, Pa., died at 10:55 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at The Oaks at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon, where she had resided since Oct. 28, 2002. She had been in declining health. Born Aug. 12, 1918, in Johnstown, Cambria County, Pa., she was the only child of the late Albert L. and Nettie (Mears) Korb. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Ronald E. (Barbara Jane) Detwiler; two grandchildren: Mrs. Brian (Stacy Korb Detwiler) Sinniger and Shawn Kery Detwiler. Three great-grandchildren: Katrina Elizabeth Sinniger, Leeann Rachelle Sinniger and Shawn Charles Emmert Detwiler; and a step-great-grandson, Nicholas Wisor. All of the above live in the Huntingdon Area. Mrs. Heine was married three times. In 1949, she married Floyd L. Greene at the Greenwood Furnace Church. Mr. Greene preceded her in death in April 1954, as did Mr. Greene's five children and one step-great-granddaughter. There are 13 surviving step-grandchildren, 19 step-great-grandchildren and 10 step-great-great-grandchildren. On Nov. 11, 1961, she was married to Martin H. Heine at the Huntingdon Presbyterian Church, Huntingdon, Pa., with the Rev. William B. Payne officiating. Mr. Heine died in June 1980. Surviving are two step-children, Stephen V. Heine and Mrs. Richard (Jane) Brown, both of Huntingdon; six step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Heine graduated from Johnstown High School in 1936 and the former Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, from which she received her registered nurse degree in 1940. During her nursing career, she was primarily a private duty nurse. After her marriage to Mr. Greene, and his subsequent illness, she managed the Greene Hills Farm in Barree until she sold it to the Central Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church, which developed the property into Greene Hills Camp and Conference Center. Since 1962, Mrs. Heine had been an active member of the Huntingdon Presbyterian Church, having served as an elder and a trustee for a number of years. She was also an active member of the church's Presbyterian Women and served the group as treasurer for many years. In addition, she was a life member of the Auxiliary to the Presbyterian Homes of the Huntingdon Presbytery. Mrs. Heine, throughout her adult Life, was renowned as a civic leader and for her service to the communities in which she lived: Philadelphia, Barree/Alexandria and Huntingdon. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the former Easter Seals of Huntingdon County (now Huntingdon County PRIDE, Inc.), served as chairperson of the organization's Camp Shawnee and was the Camp Manager in 1960. She was an active member of the Auxiliary to the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, served as liaison to the Lower Huntingdon County Branch of the Auxiliary and was a chairperson and member of the Auxiliary's Charity Ball Committee in various years. Mrs. Heine was a former trustee of the Huntingdon County Library. She was a member of Huntingdon Chapter No. 159 Order of Eastern Star, the former Huntingdon Council of Republican Women and the Huntingdon County Humane Society. In addition, Mrs. Heine was member and patron of the Huntingdon Community Concert association, a Bicentennial Life Member of the Huntingdon County Historical Society, a Petticoat Investment Club of Huntingdon, the Alexandria Garden Club and the Book Club of Alexandria, chairing the 1955 Alexandria Bicentennial Souvenir Booklet Committee. For many years, Mrs. Heine was a vital member of the Girl Scout community in both Alexandria and Huntingdon. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Former Camp Barree Association that oversaw the operation of the Girl Scout Camp near Barree. An enthusiastic supporter of education at all levels, Mrs. Heine was especially interested in higher education. She established the Martin H. Heine Scholarship at Juniata College and was a member of the Women's league of Juniata College. Mrs. Heine, as a cancer survivor, encouraged other persons afflicted with the disease and was selected as the Huntingdon County representative on the " 67 Women -67 Counties" Traveling photo exhibit for the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition. A Memorial service will be held at the Huntingdon Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, with the Rev. Richard E. Gardiner officiating. A private Committal service will be held at Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon H. Elizabeth (Rohme) ROSENSTEEL, 96, died at her residence in Zieglerville Thursday evening Nov. 28, 2002. A resident of Zieglerville for eight years, she formerly resided in Wayne and Elizabethtown. Born in Wilkes Bane June 18, 1906, she was a daughter of the late John Franklin and Hesterella (Edwards) Rohme. She was reared in Fredericksburg, Va. She was married to Theodore Albertus Rosensteel. Mr. Rosensteel died in November 1968. She is survived by two daughters; Elizabeth R. Gamon. with whom she resided, Zieglerville; and Mrs. James (Patricia R.) Mackey, Wayne. There are four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Mrs. Rosensteel was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Wayne, where she served on the altar guild and other church committees. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Lewistown. A homemaker, she did volunteer work at Bryn Mawr Hospital. A graveside service will be held at 11 am. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Mount Union Cemetery, Mount Union. Richard H. STRAIT, 85, of The Oaks at Westminster Woods, 360 Westminster Drive, Huntingdon, died at 6:10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at The Oaks. He had been in failing health. He had resided at The Oaks since June 2002. Born Feb. 17, 1917, in Juniata Township, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Clyde H. and Jesse C. (Atherton) Strait. He was married to the former Viola Klinkman in Pasadena, Calif., in 1946. Mrs. Strait preceded him in death Sept. 18, 2000. He is survived by one brother, Clyde H. Strait, Huntingdon, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters; Kenneth and J. Wilbur Strait, Alice Edwards and Miriam Grove. Mr. Strait had 30 years perfect attendance with a Lions Club in California where he had held numerous offices during that time. He attended Huntingdon area schools until 1933 and later graduated from John Muir Technical High School. Pasadena, Calif. Following his graduation, he attended the Pasadena University Junior College for two years. A staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, he received several medals. including the Bronze Star Medal as team chief in connection with military operations in France, Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany. After retiring from his office furniture sales business in Pasadena, he owned and managed a restaurant in Pasadena for 15 years. He returned to Pennsylvania in April 2001 to live with his brother Clyde, in Huntingdon. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and animals. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, 245 Standing Stone Ave., Huntingdon. Arrangements are under the direction of The John B. Brown Funeral Home Inc. 417 Washington St., Huntingdon Jacob Henry CHANEY, 2, of Robertsdale, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Children’s Hospital, Stanford, Calif. He was born Nov. 18, 2000, in Huntingdon. Along with his sister, Saydee Chaney, Jacob resided with Eileen and Ancil Neuder of Robertsdale. He is survived by Eileen and Ancil Neuder and their children, Joaquin Neuder, Deadwood, S.D., and Ancil, David, Jeccica and Jennifer Neuder, all of Robertsdale. Funeral services will be held at 10 tin. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Immaculate Conception Church, Dudley, with the Rev. Patrick Leahey officiating. Interment. will be made in Ave Maria Cemetery, Dudley. Stanley R. WALL, 49. of R.R. 1, Box 59, Petersburg, died at 2:32 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Aug. 29, 1953, in Huntingdon, he was the son of Charles Robert and Enid (Steel) Wall. His mother survives at Petersburg, R.R. 1. His father is deceased. He was united in marriage to the former Claudia L. Packer. She survives at their home. Three sons survive; Darin Wall, Robert Wall and Jonathan Wall, all of Huntingdon. Two stepchildren survive; Stacy Allen, Viola, Wis., and Andrew Myers, Tempe, Ariz. There is one granddaughter. Mr. Wall was a member of Petersburg Bethel Presbyterian Church, Petersburg, R.R. 2. He was the current president of the Alexandria Sportsmen’s Club and leader of the Alexandria Sportsmen’s 4-H Program, a member of the National Rifle Association and a life member of Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company. A member of the Watchmakers’ Guild, he had been employed by Moyer’s Jewelers, State College, as a watchmaker. He was a 1971 graduate of Juniata Valley High School and a graduate of Bowman Watchmaking School, Lancaster. He served in the U.S. Marine Corns for four years during the Vietnam Era. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Petersburg Bethel Presbyterian Church, Route 305, Petersburg, with the Rev. David L. Benfer officiating.
