JAMISON, 63, of 512 1/2 Bella St., Hollidaysburg, died unexpectedly Monday evening, Oct. 1, 2002, at her home. Born April 7, 1939, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Helen (Mayhue) Harker. She was twice married: First to Samuel Crownover, then to Donald E. Jamison Oct 3, 1987, in Duncansville. Mr. Jamison preceded her in death Feb. 24, 1995. She is survived by one daughter and four sons: Brenda L. Corbin, East Freedom; Herbert Crownover, Claysburg; Thomas and David Crownover, Altoona; and Terry Crownover, Mount Union. She is also survived by five step-children. There are 14 grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, and a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Two sisters and three brothers survive: Mary Knode and Samm Harker, both of Huntingdon; Susan Corbin, Mapleton; and Jack and Earl Harker, both of Mount Union. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rebecca Sue; and brother, Merle, twin brother to Earl. Mrs. Jamison was a member of New Life Community Church, Altoona. She had been employed as a sewing machine operator at Tritex, Altoona, with 20 years service until its closing. She was then employed at the Dairy Queen, Station Mall, Altoona. She enjoyed her family and the outdoors. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, at the Sorge Funeral Home, 422 N. Juniata St., Hollidaysburg, with Pastor Terry Farr officiating. Interment will be made in New Canoe Creek Cemetery. Helen (White) PEIGHTAL, 81, of 301 Sixteenth St., Huntingdon, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at her residence, where she had lived since 1962. Born July 16, 1921, in Six Mile Run, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Agnes (Hudson) White. She was united in marriage to Frederick M. Peightal Jan. 28, 1940, at the Stone Church of the Brethren, Huntingdon, by the Rev. Tobias Henry. Mr. Peightal preceded her in death Aug. 1, 1994. She is survived by one son and two daughters: Frederick M. Peightal Jr. of Ocean City, Md., and Palm Desert, Calif.; Mrs. Robert (Cheryl P.) Ritchey and Barbara S. Purdy, both of Huntingdon. There are five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear friend, Alton F. Rososky. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters: James White, William White, Robert White, Henrietta White and Lorraine McCracken. Mrs. Peightal was a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren, Huntingdon, having served the church as a deacon for many years. She was a member of the Standing Stone Senior Citizens. She attended the Huntingdon public schools. Until her retirement in 1983, she was personnel manager for the G.C.Murphy Company, Huntingdon. She enjoyed music and dancing. Most of all, she enjoyed her family. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with the Rev. Dale W. Dowdy and Christy L. Dowdy officiating. Interment will be made in Huntingdon Memorial Garden, Walker Twp. Huntingdon. Palmer H. "Tinker" WEAVER, 63, of R.R. 1, Box 336, Huntingdon, died at 9:05 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at his home. Born May 27, 1939, in Saxton, he was a son of the late Palmer M. and Bessie Pearl (Brenneman) Weaver. He was united in marriage to Amelda R. Gill Feb. 14, 1959. Mrs. Weaver survives at their home. One son and one daughter survive: Greg A. Weaver, Lake Ridge, Va., and Kathy A. Malick, Salley, S.C. There are five granddaughters. He is survived by two sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Clyde (Betty) Reeder, Pittsburgh; Cordelia Wright and John Grainey, both of Huntingdon; Robert Weaver, Heathsville, Va.; and Thomas Weaver, Salunga. One sister, Sue Ann Hoover, preceded him in death. Mr. Weaver was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Corrections as a tradesman instructor at State Correctional Institution Huntingdon. He enjoyed woodworking, clock building and especially his computers. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. David L. Dearing officiating. Interment will be made in Huntingdon Memorial Garden Huntingdon. Roy Donald BRYANT, 76, of Sarasota, Fla., died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002. Mr. Bryant was born March 10, 1926, in Aitch. He is survived by his wife, Lucille H. Bryant. Also surviving are three sons: Daniel C. Bryant of Marietta, Ohio; Mark D. Bryant of Sarasota, Fla., and Stephen C. Bryant of Ball Ground, Ga. Mr. Bryant is also survived by a sister, Alice Lewis of Dale City, Va. Ten grandchildren survive along with three great-granddaughters. Mr. Bryant moved to Sarasota County in 1971, from Huntingdon, then moved to Manatee County. Mr. Bryant was a member of First Church of God. He was a member of a member of a support group called Man to Man and did Christian missionary work in California, Belize and Eastern Europe. He worked as a security guard at Ringling Museum from 1991-2002. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes, 26th St. Chapel, Bradenton, Fla. Kero "Kitty" DIMOFF, 76, of 341 Mt. Hope Road, McVeytown, died at 3:35 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at his home. Born April 26, 1926, in Mount Union, he was a son of the late Elia and Angelina (Taliff) Dimoff. He is survived by three daughters and one son: Donna L. Kauffman, Duncannon; Peter D. "Danny" Dimoff, Mt. Hope Road, McVeytown; Rose Wentz, Silverford Heights, Mount Union; and Linda Sue Faubert, McConnellstown. There are five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The following brothers and sisters survive: Mike E. Dimoff, Mariea E. Stewart and Donald E. Dimoff, all of Mount Union; Jordan E. Dimoff, Toronto, Canada; Boris E. Dimoff, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Wanda E. Dunn, McConnellstown. He was preceded in death by a son, Andrew M. Dimoff, Oct. 18, 2001, and two infant sisters, Valsaki E and Olga E. Dimoff. Mr. Dimoff was a member of the American Legion Post No. 107 and the VFW Post No. 5754, both of Mount Union. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served at Pearl Harbor and overseas, on the USS New Orleans. Retired from North American Refractories, Mount Union, he worked as a moulder and in the drying room for many years. He enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. He was a sportsman. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with Dr. Robert Coutts officiating. Interment will be made in the Mount Union Cemetery, Garden of Honor. Betty B. RINARD, 77, of Morans Nursing Home, Bellwood, formerly of Loysburg, died at 1 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at the nursing home. Death followed an extended illness. Born Jan. 9, 1925, in Langdondale she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Smith) Bambling. She is survived by two daughters, Diane Clapper of West Chester, Ohio, and Jodie Henry of New Enterprise, and two grandchildren. A sister, Vivian Khouri of Pittsburgh, and a brother, Duward Bambling of Langdondale, also survive. She was preceded in death by a sister, June Tyger, and a brother, Clair Bambling. She was of the Protestant faith. she was a graduate of the Robert P. Smith High School in New Enterprise. During her life, she worked primarily as a homemaker. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, 715 Church St., Saxton, with Pastor Lee Ritchey officiating. Interment will be made in the Langdondale Cemetery, Hopewell. Carol (Keib) GROVE, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at Fairfax Nursing Center, Fairfax, Va. Born in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Bernice M. Keib and the late Earl F. Keib. Grove is survived by her husband Col. (ret.) Robert N. Grove, a Huntingdon native. Also surviving are two sons: Paul D. Grove and Richard A. Grove. Two brothers, Richard E. Keib and Robert E. Keib survive along with two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Truro Episcopal Church, Fairfax, Va., at a later date. Charles L. SNYDER, 73, of 80 Snyder Estates, McVeytown, died at 8:35 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md. His death was unexpected. Born May 12, 1929, in Kistler, Mount Union, he was the son of the late Ralph and Blanche (Sentman) Snyder. He was united in marriage to Betty Jane Getz Dec. 24, 1955, in Kistler. Mr. Snyder is survived by his wife at home and by the following children: Lawanda S. Price, Raymond J. Snyder and Randy L. Snyder, all of McVeytown and Walter Snyder of Mifflin. Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive. He is also survived by a brother, Ronald Hoch of Clairmont, Fla., and a sister, Faye Heffner of Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Snyder. Mr. Snyder was a life member of the VFW Post No. 5754, Mount Union. He attended Mount Union public schools and served overseas, including Korea, in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired October 1978 after 31 years of service as a combat vehicle inspector at the Letterkenny Ordinance Dept, Chambersburg. Mr. Snyder was an avid hunter. Funeral services will be held at 11 .m. CAROTHERS, 80, of Pennknoll Village, Bedford, formerly of Saxton, died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at Pennknoll Village following an extended illness. She was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Hopewell, Bedford County, the daughter of David Porter and Ruby (Whisel) Gates, both deceased. She was united in marriage to Paul "June" Carothers Aug. 6, 1944, at the Saxton Church of God. Mr. Carothers preceded her in death April 6, 1992. Mrs. Carothers is survived by John Smith of Baltimore, Md., who was reared in the Carothers' home. A sister, Dorothy Lhuillier of Sherrill, N.Y., and one nephew survive. She was preceded in death by an infant son and another son, David P. Carothers. Mrs. Carothers was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, Saxton. She was active with the Saxton Community Library, served as a member of Saxton Borough Council for several years and served on the board of directors for the Saxton Community Swimming Pool. Mrs. Carothers graduated from Robert P. Smith High School, Yellow Creek,in 1939. She was employed as a secretary for White, Jenkins and Johnson Insurance Company, Saxton, retiring in 1989. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and playing bingo. Funeral services were held today (Monday) at 2 p.m. at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor Charles Davis officiating. Interment was made in Grandview Cemetery, Saxton. Thomas Lee WORRALL JR., 33, of Oxford, formerly of Orbisonia, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Chester, the son of Thomas Lee Sr. and Claire L. (Marchand) Worrall of Orbisonia. He was married to Aimee R. (Houston) Worrall, with whom he shared four and one-half years of marriage. He is survived by his wife: His parents; his maternal grandmother, Evelynn (Harris) Johnson of Rehoboth Beach, Del., and four children at home: Joline D., Donald C., David M. and Olivia P.Worrall. Mr. Worrall is survived by three brothers and one sister: Brian Worrall of Cassville; Michael Worrall of New Orleans, La.; Steven Worrall of Mill Creek and Tricia Woodward of Three Springs. Mr. Worrall attended Safe Harbor Baptist Church in Cochranville. He was employed as a trackman for CPS Railways for the past three years. He had lived in the Oxford area for the past eight years. Mr. Worrall enjoyed spending time with his children, fishing, bowling and watching the Philadelphia Eagles football team. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Ruffenach Funeral Home, Oxford. Interment will be made in Calvary Baptist Cemetery, Rising Sun, Md. George Leslie "Bud" REED, 85, of 806 Mifflin St., died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past six months. Born Oct. 3, 1917, in Defiance, Bedford County, he was the son of Walter and Rebecca Rose (Fox) Reed, both deceased. He was united in marriage to May Kathlyn Rittenhouse Aug. 17, 1941, at the 12th Street Evangelical United Brethren Church, Huntingdon. Mr. Reed is survived by his wife at home and by one son, Gary T. Reed of Petersburg, and two daughters, Mrs. Wes (Pamela) McMahon of Petersburg, and Mrs. Bob (Sandra) Hanks of Huntingdon. Five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren survive. He is survived by three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Allen (Mary) Hoover of Hesston, Mrs. Donald (Doris) Stitt of Huntingdon, Robert Reed of Gettysburg, Mrs. Kerry (Barbara) Jackson of Lubbock, Texas and David Reed of Manchester. He was preceded in death by a daughter. Mr. Reed was a life member of the Abbey Reformed United Church of Christ, Huntingdon, where he was a former elder, member of the consistory and an usher. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers and PARSE (Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees). Mr. Reed attended Huntingdon public school and graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1936. While in High school, he was a perennial all-league player in both basketball and football. His athletic accomplishments extended beyond high school. He participated in the Huntingdon City Baseball League for the Moose Team for Five decades and in the Huntingdon City Basketball League for three decades. Following his retirement from active player status, he continued as a coach in both baseball and basketball. After high school, Mr. Reed was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad and later as a city bus driver for Rohm's Transit in Huntingdon. He retired in 1977 from the State Correctional Institution, Huntingdon after 21 years of service as a corrections officer. Mr. Reed enjoyed vegetable gardening, hunting, woodworking and golf. He also enjoyed sports, particularly Penn State sports, and served as an usher at Beaver Stadium for many years. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Gary H. Marcy officiating. Interment will be made in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon. Freda Katherine FIX, 88, a resident of Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, died of congestive heart failure at 1:42 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at Harrisburg General Hospital, Harrisburg. She was formerly of HCR 73, Three Springs. Born March 25, 1914, in Cromwell Twp., she was a daughter of the late James Joshua and Elizabeth B. (Runk) McKim. She was married to Clyde E. Fix, four Brothers and seven sisters preceded her in death. Mrs. Fix was a member of the Rockhill Church of the Brethren, Rochkill Furnace. She was a homemaker. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m Friday, Oct. 11, at the Rockhill Church of the Brethren, Rockhill Furnace, with the Rev. Myers Kimmel and Mr. Ramon Morgan officiating. Interment will be made in the Old School Baptist Cemetery, Three Springs. Carl M. "Buck" CARTER SR., 74, of 1175 Little Greenbriar Road, McVeytown, died at 6:07 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at his Wayne Twp., Mifflin County, residence. Born May 21, 1928, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Molton L. and Viola (Ward) Carter. He was united in marriage to Joy A. Peck who survives. He is survived by nine children: Carl M. Carter Jr. and Mrs. Gregory (Jennifer) Reigle, both of Lewistown; Larry G. Carter, Orbisonia; Mrs. Calvin (Sandra) Forshey and Matthew S. Carter, both of McClure; Mrs. Randall (Cindy) Hesser, McVeytown; Mrs. Wilmer (Tammy) Jury, Kistler; Michael D. Carter, Maitland; and Ryan E. Carter, Strodes Mills. There are 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. One sister, Kathleen Carter, Richfield, also survives. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur "Tac" Carter and Harlold"Beanie" Carter. Mr. Carter was a member of Newton Hamilton Brethren in Christ Church. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose No. 223, Huntingdon; and East Derry Fire Company, Glenwood. Early in life, he was employed by Sitkin's Smelting Plant. He was employed by Mann Edge Tool Company, Lewistown, for 17 years, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed flying, racing, reading Indian History and being with his family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, Lewistown, with Pastor Samuel J. King officiating. Interment will be made in Paintersville Christian and Missionary Alliance Cemetery. Robert Byers RUSSELL, 73, of James Creek, died unexpectedly at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, in the emergency room of Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring. Born March 25, 1929, in Aitch, he was the son of Charles W. and M. Alice (Higgins) Russell, both deceased. He was united in marriage to Pearl E. Speck Sept. 11, 1953, in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Russell is survived by his wife at home and by the following children: R. Jeffrey Russell, Kathy Norris, Roger L. Russell and Mary A. Russell, all of James Creek. Seven grandchildren also survive. He is survived by three sisters: Edna Baughman of Evansville, Tenn.; Annie Diehl of Columbus, Ohio, and Nancy Jay Little of Orange City, Fla. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Russell, and two brothers, Fred Russell and James Russell, infant. Mr. Russell was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Russellville. He was a member of the Marklesburg Lions Club, the Quarter Century Club through New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company and the Marklesburg Volunteer Fire Company. He served in the U.S. Army in 1955 and 1956. He retired in 1991 from New Enterprise after 35 years of employment. He also owned and operated Russell's Store in Cherrytown for 20 years. Mr. Russell enjoyed farming and old farm tractors. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel in Saxton with Pastor George Baird officiating. Interment will be made in the Russellville Reformed Cemetery. Rebecca A. ITINGER, 86, of Alexandria, died at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. She was born Aug. 21, 1916, at Pennsylvania Furnace, the daughter of the late Elmer Raymond and Sarah (Sassaman) Ewing. She was united in marriage to Warren Richard Itinger May 18, 1943, in Huntingdon. Mr. Itinger preceded her in death Dec. 19, 1997. Mrs. Itinger is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Monda) Stapleton of McConnellstown and Mrs. James (Jennifer) Hearn of HC 1, Huntingdon, and a son, Warren R. "Bud" Itinger of Alexandria. Six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. She is survived by two sisters, Gladys Sponsler of Alexandria and Anna Mae Todaro of Huntingdon. She was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Ewing. Mrs. Itinger was a member of the Alexandria Presbyterian Church. She was employed as a manager at the Health Mart Drugstore in Huntingdon and retired in 1995 as a housemother at the Grier School, Birmingham. After her retirement, she was employed part-time at the Super Sheetz convenience store, Route 22, Huntingdon. Mrs. Itinger enjoyed reading, sewing and playing her organ. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. John C. Dean officiating. Interment will be made in the Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery, Alexandria. Valerie H. BOOHER, 60, of 18 Trellis Dr., Mount Union, died at 1018 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Her death was unexpected. Born March 19, 1942, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of Charles W. Jr. and Jean (Hiles) Huston, both deceased. She was united in marriage to Wilbur W. Booher Nov. 4, 1961, at the First United Methodist Church, Mount Union. She is survived by her husband at home; two children: Christopher Booher of Ashville, N.C., and Anne Glunt of Huntingdon, and six grandchildren. A brother, Charles Kerry Huston of Modesto, Calif., survives. Mrs. Booher was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mount Union. She was a 1960 graduate of the Captain Jack High School, Mount Union. Mrs. Booher was most recently employed at the former North American Refractories in Mount Union, prior to which she worked for Harbison-Walker Refractories, Mount Union. She also worked as a secretary for the Mount Union Area School District. She loved animals and especially enjoyed taking care of her dogs. She also enjoyed reading, walking and crossword puzzles. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Newton Hamilton Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Grundon officiating. Charles M. SMYERS, 70, of 206 Cider Lane, Lewistown, died at 11:14 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at his residence. Born July 5, 1932, in Mount Union, he was the son of Harry and Georgia (Mahan) Smyers, both deceased. He was united in marriage to Johanna Barbarulo in 1961. Mr. Smyers is survived by his wife; three daughters: Lynne Smyers, Arlington, Va.; Jennifer Burt, Laureldale, and Pamela Murray, State College, and two grandchildren. A sister, Elizabeth Goodman of Mount Union, survives. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Smyers. Mr. Smyers was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Lewistown. He was a member of the American Legion Simpson-Hunt Post No. 107, Mount Union; the Mifflin County Sportsman Association and Camp Saratoga. Mr. Smyers was a 1950 graduate of Mount Union High School and a 1960 graduate of Shippensburg University. He served in the United States Navy. He was a former plant manager for Lyon Fashions, Mifflintown, and an agent with Met Life until his retirement. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Marickovic officiating. Interment will be made in St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery, Shirleysburg. Ida J. COVERT, 76, of R.R. 1, Box 235, Mapleton (Birdvale), died at 2:50 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at Huntingdon Manor, Warm Springs Avenue, Huntingdon. She had been in failing health. Born July 21, 1926, in Cromwell Twp., she was a daughter of the late Martin and Minnie (Hicks) Booher. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Kenneth Covert Oct. 19, 1946, in McVeytown, by the Rev. E.E. Dunkleburger. Mr. Covert preceded her in death Oct. 19, 1980. She is survived by one son, L. Kenneth Covert Jr., Lake Mary, Fla., and one grandson. One brother and two sisters survive: The Rev. Fred Booher, Perryopolis; Evaline Lininger, Huntingdon; and Ozora Cohenour, Three Springs. She was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters. Mrs. Covert was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Mapleton, and the Cheerful Givers Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Bricktown Senior Citizens, Mount Union. She retired in 1973 after 20 years employment with the former L. Greif Bros. Mfg. Co., Mount Union. Her pastimes included crocheting, gardening and spending time with her grandson in Florida. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Mapleton, with the Rev. Ed Seeley officiating. Interment will be made in the IOOF Cemetery, Mapleton. John J. "Speed" GRIMES, 80, of Walker Twp., Huntingdon, died at 7:52 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Derry Twp., Hershey. Born June 22, 1922, in Riddlesburg, he was the son of the late Robert and Inza (Dixon) Grimes. He was united in marriage to Anna Mae Schirm, July 29, 1972. Mrs. Grimes survives at the couple's Walker Twp., home. He is also survived by one son, John R. Grimes of Petersburg; and two stepdaughters: Mrs. David (Linda) Stotler, Newark, Ohio; and Nancy Jones, Los Angeles, Calif. One sister, Helen Grimes of Smithfield Twp., Huntingdon, survives. There are two step-great-grandchildren. A sister, Pauline Grimes, preceded him in death. Mr. Grimes was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, McConnellstown. He was a life member of the McConnellstown Fire Company which he had served as Fire Police Captain for a number of years. He was also a life member of Standing Stone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1754. A 32nd degree Mason, he was a member of Mt. Moriah Blue Lodge No. 300, F&AM, a member of Jaffa Shrine, Scottish Rite and the Altoona Consistory. He had been a board member and consultant to the Area Agency on Aging for over 25 years. A member of the Class of 1942, he graduated from Huntingdon High School. He served as a corporal with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. A sheet metal specialist with the 1st Bomber Squadron 9th Bomber Group, he was on a team that was responsible for preparation of the planes and atomic bombs for the attack on Japan. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Service Medal, Asian Pacific Theatre Service Medal with three Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Grimes retired from Penn Central National Bank in 1973, where he had worked for a number of years as courier. He had previously been employed by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and at Owens Corning Fiberglas, Huntingdon. For the past 20 years, he and his wife had spent the winter months at their homes in Fort Myers and Wauchula, Fla. He had resided at his Walker Twp. home since 1972. Other than the time spent in Florida, he was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County. GRAHAM, 73, of 487 Prospect Rd., Manheim, died Sunday evening, Oct. 13, 2002, at Lancaster Regional Medical Center. He died unexpectedly of natural causes. He was born Aug. 13, 1929, in Manheim, the son of William Lloyd and Gertrude R. (Bullock) Graham, both deceased. He was united in marriage to Retta.J. Smith, a native of Huntingdon County. The couple would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this Friday, Oct. 18. Mr. Graham is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth J. (Donna L.) Updegraff of Elizabethtown and Brenda J. Enterline of East Stroudsburg; one son Earl E. Graham Jr. of Lititz, and 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Donald, William and Harold Graham, all of Manheim, and one sister, Mrs. Dwight (Patricia) Bomberger of Manheim. He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Kirby. Mr. Graham was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He was a life member of the Manheim VFW Post No. 5956; the Elstonville Sportsman Association, Manheim, and the Smith Brothers Hunting Camp, Blacklog Valley, Juniata County. He had a life-long interest in raising and training beagles for hunting, was well-known in the area for his skill and was a member of the Lebanon County Beagle Club. CROWNOVER, 75, of 316 Trella St., Belleville, died at 10:40 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Valley View Haven, Belleville. Born Nov. 18, 1926, in Belleville, he was the son of Kathryn P. (Mateer) Crownover of Valley View Haven and the late Floyd B. Crownover. He was united in marriage to Helen Medwinski April 3, 1948. Mr. Crownover is survived by his wife at the couple's Trella Street Residence; his mother; daughter, Mrs. Robert (Bonita) Pressler of Reedsville,and two granddaughters. Two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Laura "Sis") Yoder of Allensville and Mrs. Richard (Betty Ruth) Barcuther of Enola, and a brother, Roy Crownover of Belleville, survive. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Crownover, in 1959, and by a brother, Glenn Crownover. Mr. Crownover was a member of the Allensville Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee, church treasurer and as a member of the choir. He was a member of the Stroup-Alexander VFW Post No. 5935, Belleville, for 56 years. He was a lifetime (56-year) member of the Belleville Fire Company and was the recipient of the fire company's President's Award in 1996. He was also one of the first members of the Big Valley Ambulance Club. Mr. Crownover served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 and was a member of the Air National Guard. He retired from New Holland in 1986 after 39 years and worked at Taylor's IGA in Belleville for 10 years. HOLDSWORTH, 82, of R.R. 4, Box 137, Huntingdon, died at 7:20 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Altoona Hospital following a short illness. Born Feb. 28, 1920, in New York City, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late William R. and Germaine R. (Robert) Holdsworth. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Richard J. (Linda Alan) Rossi, Huntingdon, with whom she resided. There in one granddaughter. Three brothers survive: William Holdsworth, Lake Ariel; Ralph Holdsworth, Arlington, Va.; and John Holdsworth, Ellsworth, Maine. Ms. Holdsworth attended Most Holy Trinity Church, Huntingdon. She served a a corporal in the Women's Army Corps during World War II. She was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. She had been employed as a machinist, for over 35 years, at Hoover Motors Inc., formerly Kingston-Connolley Inc. of Plainfield, N.J. She was also employed part-time as an attendant at the Temple, from 1990-1995. For most of her life, she lived in New Jersey, moving to Berks County after she retired in 1985. In 1999, she moved to Huntingdon to reside in Walker Twp. with her daughter and son-in-law. She enjoyed daily walks, trips to the Jersey Shore, and reading, enjoying particularly history and religion. She was also very happy to learn of the upcoming birth of her first great-grandchildren, her granddaughter's twins. Funeral services were held Oct. 19, in Temple, with the Rev. E. WINFREE, 70, of 322 N. Jefferson St., Mount Union, died at 8:39 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, following a brief illness. Born Dec. 24, 1931, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Charles H. and Helen A. (Morris) Winfree. He was united in marriage to Jane Collins Dec. 20, 1952, in Mount Union. Mrs. Winfree survives. One son and six daughters survive: Donald E. Winfree Jr., Columbus, Ohio; Carol N. Jackson, Arlene L. Winfree and Constance G. Vaughn, all of Mount Union; April M. Winfree-Daniels, Camp Springs, Md.; and Shelba Winfree-Murray and Paula Piner-Holmes, both of Philadelphia. There are 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a former member of the St. Joseph F&AM Lodge No. 125, Mount Union. Following his graduation from Captain Jack High School, Mount Union, in 1950, he entered the U.S. Air Force. He served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1954. He was employed by Ethel Meserve, State College, from 1954 until 1969. He also worked at C.H. Miller, Huntingdon, in the drapery department for several years. He owned and operated a custom drapery business in Huntingdon from 1974 to 1980, then began work with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, from where he retired. MILLIKEN, 89, of Cornwall Manor, Cornwall, formerly of Ephrata, died Monday morning, Oct. 14, 2002, at the retirement home following a brief illness. Born in West Scarborough, Maine, he was a son of the late Alfred H. and Grace S. (Seavey) Milliken. He was united in marriage to Laura M. Stearns. She preceded him in death in September 2000. Surviving are three sons and three daughters: The Rev. Charles C. Milliken, Franklintown; the Rev. Mark G. Milliken, Gainesville; Timothy D. Milliken, Malden, Mass.; the Rev. Verna L. Cahill, McConnellstown; Karen J. Milliken, Lancaster; and Deborah L. Thompson, Covington, Ind. There are 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Two brothers and five sisters survive: Alfred H. Milliken Jr., Falmouth, Maine; E. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sewell, Wendell and Rolland; and two grandchildren. The Rev. Milliken was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Ephrata, where he served as a Sunday School teacher. He was a member and past commander of the Ephrata American Legion and was past vice chair of the American Legion's Pennsylviania Department of Religious Emphasis Committee. He was also a member of Ephrata AMVETS Post 136 and the Mental Health Association of Lancaster, from which he served as director of chaplaincy services at the former ARC/The Terraces in Ephrata. A graduate of Boston University with a bachelor's degree in education, he earned a master's degree from the university's School of Theology, Gordon's School of Divinity. He earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Indiana University. During World War II and the Korean conflict, he was a chaplain for the U.S. Army, retiring in 1972. He was assigned to the Chaplain's School at the Carlisle Army War School after World War II. A retired Methodist minister, he served churches in the New England Southern Conference. He headed churches in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He last served in Salem, Mass. He also delivered sermons at various Ephrata area churches over the years. He served a volunteer chaplain at Ephrata Community Hospital and at the American Legion 10th district while living in Ephrata. An artist, he enjoyed drawing in chalk, pencil sketching and oil painting. He also enjoyed walking and counseling individuals. Born March 17, 1919, in Center, Juniata county, she was a daughter of the late Wesley and Elva (Yohn) Pannebaker. She was united in marriage to R. William Purdy, Aug. 30, 1935. Mr. Purdy survives at their home. One son and one daughter survive: R. Jack Purdy, Omaha, Neb.; and Mrs. Philip (Ruth) Neff, Wilmington, N.C. MCMULLEN, 94, of 428 E. 26th Ave., Altoona, formerly of Orbisonia, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at Altoona Hospital Center for Nursing Service, Altoona, following an extended illness. Born April 25, 1908, in Coupon, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary (Chirdon) McMullen. He married Thelma (Crone) Collins Sept. 3, 1951, and they resided in Orbisonia for early 50 years. Mrs. McMullen preceded him in death Aug. 5, 2001. He is survived by two stepsons and three stepdaughters: William Collins, Columbus, Ohio; Paul Collins, Scotland, Pa.; Alma Locke, Hurricane, W. Va.; Helen Yednock, Harrisburg; and Joan Bosco, Felton, Del. There are 14 step-grandchildren and 22 step-great-grandchildren. A sister, Ann M. Wiley of Altoona, with whom he resided, survives. Eight nieces and nephews also survive. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. A Coast Guard veteran of World War II, in the Pacific Theatre, he served on a ship (LST) that transported soldiers and equipment to shore for island invasions. WITMAN, 61, of R.R. 1, Box 1362 (Hill Valley), Mount Union, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at his home. He had been in failing health. Born Nov. 23, 1940, in Middletown, he was a son of the Claude and Dorothy (Zimmerman) Witman. His mother survives in Middletown. His father is deceased. He was united in marriage to Ann L. (Heaster) Zimmerman Feb. 14, 1999, in Mount Union. Mrs. Witman survives. The following children survive: Pat Witman, Halifax; Teri Coughenour, York Haven; Jay Witman, Hershey; and Tammy Evans, New Bloomfield. He is also survived by three step-children: Charlene Walker, Enola; Charles Pfaunmiller, Elizabethtown; and Kevin Pfaunkiller, Highspire. There are six grandchildren and six step-grandchildren. One sister, Anna Lewallen, and one brother, Harry Witman, both of Middletown, survive. He was preceded in death by two sons: Jerry Witman Jr. and Tim Witman; and three brothers: Claude Witman Jr., Samuel Witman and George Witman. Mr. Witman was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of the VFW Posts, both in Mount Union and Highspire. He was also a member of the Rescue Fire Co. of Middletown. Following 25 years of service, he retired in November 2000, from Mack Trucking, Harrisburg, where he worked as an engine rebuilder. Gordon Ross officiating. Interment will be made in the Mapleton IOOF Cemetery. Minnie C. SPECK, 93, formerly of McConnellstown, died at 1:40 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at Epworth Manor, Tyrone. Born Nov. 3, 1908, in Walker Twp., she was a daughter of the late Jonas and Maud (Low) Ronk. She was united in marriage to Dallas L. Speck Aug. 20, 1925, in the McConnellstown Methodist Church. Mr. Speck preceded her in death Jan. 12, 1995. One daughter and one son survive: Freda Weaver, Huntingdon, and Donald L. Speck, Huntingdon. There are four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One daughter, Helen Speck and one son, Gerald Speck, preceded her in death. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Jessie Ronk and Christie Shaffer. Mrs. Speck was a very active member of First Church of the Nazarene, McConnellstown for many years, serving as Sunday School teacher, board member and treasurer. She was educated in the Walker Twp. schools. Although she was primarily a homemaker, she had worked at the former Susquehanna Silk Mill, Huntingdon, and the former McCroy's also in Huntingdon. Harvey Vane MCQUAIT, 81, of North Clear Ridge Road, Hustontown, died at 11:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg. Born March 22, 1921, in Wood, he was the son of the late Emory V. and Mary T. (Wood) McQuait. He was married to Estelene Jessie Gladfelter July 26, 1947, in Hagerstown, Md. Mrs. McQuait preceded him in death April 11, 1982. He is survived by two daughters and one son: Marie R. Hann, McConnellsbrug; Mary T. Duvall, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; and Emory V. McQuait, Hustontown. There are four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Four brothers and seven sisters survive. One sister and three brothers preceded him in death. Mr. McQuait was of the Protestant faith. A veteran of World War II, he served with the US. Army. Mary Elizabeth RADLE, 78, of 1725 Penn St., Huntingdon, died at 12:55 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia. Death was unexpected. Born Feb. 10, 1924, in Wayne Twp., Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late Charles L. and Mary Alice (Hardy) Atherton. She was married to Charles E. Foster in 1944. He preceded her in death and she then married Charles E. Radle July 26, 1949. Mr. Radle survives. Two children survive: Charles E. "Bill" Radle Jr., Duncansville, and Jobie R. Moore, Hesston. There are three granddaughters and one great-grandson. Three sisters also survive: Ann Rosensteel, Lititz, and Emma Parsons and Helen Wagner, both of Mount Union. She was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: William Atherton, Roy Atherton, Leslie Atherton, Paul Atherton, John Atherton, Harry Atherton, Maidie Buck and Jennie "June" Hollibaugh. Mrs. Radle was a member of the First Baptist Church, Mount Union. She was educated in the Mount Union schools. A caregiver, she had been employed at the Masonic Homes in Elizabethtown and the Shirley Home for the Aged, Shirleysburg. She was also an in-home caregiver for several years. Howard "Max" JONES, 86, of Chambersburg, died at 8:50 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg. Born April 24, 1916, in Kane, he was a son of the late Charles H. and Anna (Murphy) Jones. He was married to the former Vena "Dot" Walls Aug. 24, 1946. Mrs. Jones survives at their home. Mr. Jones was a member of the United Methodist Church, Homestead. He was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity and the Standing Stone VFW Post No. 1754, Huntingdon. A graduate of Brentwood High School, he received a BA degree in music and French, from Carnegie Mellon University. He received a BS degree in music education and French from Duquesne University and his Masters Degree in music and French from Penn State University. He also studied selected courses in French at the University of Maine at Orono and the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. Mr. Jones taught music at the Penn State Undergraduate Center, Pottsville, for two years and French at Chambersburg High School. He retired from Mount Lebanon High after teaching French for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II from 1942-1945. He was with the 1st Army, 7th Corps, Armored Division, in the European Theatre of Operations between 1943-1945. An accomplished violinist, he entertained the troops during the war, traveling to the front lines with the chaplains. He also loved to travel and especially love France. BOOZEL, 84, formerly of Mattawanna, and for the last eight years a resident of the Malta Home, Granville,died at 6:05 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at the home. He had been in failing health. Born June 30, 1918, in Wayne Twp., Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Albert and Mary (Bilger) Boozel. He was united in marriage to Genevieve Harshbarger March 16, 1939, in Winchester, Va. Mrs. Boozel preceded him in death March 12, 1994. He is survived by seven children: Mrs. Raymond (Bernadene) Miller of Enola; Mrs. Ronald (Donna) Miller of Big Greenbriar Road, McVeytown; Carl E. Boozel of Port Royal; Gary L. Boozel of Mifflintown; and Mrs. Fred (Linda) Kauffman, Arlene Payne and Mrs. John (Pamela) Yoder, all of Lewistown. There are 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. The following brothers and sisters survive: Lester Boozel and Alice Bollinger both of McVeytown; Mary Harshbarger and Freda Worthy, both of Mount Union; Elsie Pollock and Thelma Miller, both of Newton Hamilton; Geraldine Keefer, Shade Gap; Richard Boozel, Robert Boozel and Bertis Boozel, all of McVeytown; Brooks Boozel, Milroy; and Shirley Grove, Orbisonia. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert Boozel, John Boozel, and Melvin Boozel, and two sisters, Gladys Johnston and Stella Giusti. Mr. Boozel was a member of Ryde Yoked Methodist Church, Ryde. He was a member of F&AM Lodge No. 376, McVeytown, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg Consistory, the Newton-Wayne Lions Club and the American Legion Post 107, Mount Union. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy Seabees and received the Victory Medal in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. Born May 4, 1911, in Belleville, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Rebecca (Byler) Hertzler. He husband, Raymond S. Peachey, preceded her in death June 25, 1980. (Ruth) Yoder, Belleville; Mrs. Eugene (Pauline) Stuckey, Lennox, S.D.; Leonard Peachey, Belleville; Mrs. Byron (Zelda) Zook, Mill Creek; and Mrs. David (Eleanor) Stoltzfus, Bridgewater, Va. There are 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by four sisters: Mattie Yoder, Amanda Smucker, Bertha Hartzler and Sadie M. Hertzler. Mrs. Peachey was a member of the Locust Grove Mennonite Church where she was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Belleville Senior Citizens. For 25 years, she was a custodian at Allensville Elementary School. She attended Market in Huntingdon for at least 25 years. Samuel Wilson CLIPPINGER, 93, of HCR 73, Three Springs, died at 11:20 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at his home in Clay Twp. born Aug. 13, 1909, in Taylor Twp., Fulton County, he was a son of the late Wison Montgomery and Mary (Knepper) Clippinger. He was preceded in death by two wives. Ada (Barnett) Clippinger, whom he married Dec. 29, 1929, died March 12, 1942. Elsie (Fields) Clippinger, whom he married Sept. 20, 1944, died March 14, 2002. He is survived by 14 children: James Clippenger and Robert Clippinger, of Hustontown; Carl Clippinger, Robertsdale; Esther Scott, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; Roger Clippinger and Elaine Miller, both of Hagerstown, Md.; Freda Miller, McConnellsburg; George Clippinger, Needmore; Donald Clippinger and Fred Clippinger, both of Three Springs; Donna Ritter, Wichita Falls, Texas; Mary Swartz, Huntingdon; Glenda Machia, Lancaster; and Anita Clippinger, Ephrata. There are 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters and one brother: Nora Appleby, Myrtle Knepper and Laura Wogan, all of Chambersburg, and Lester Clippinger, McConnellsburg. He was preceded in death by one daughter, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter, three brothers and three sisters. In earlier years, Mr. Clippinger had attended the former Dublin Mills United Methodist Church, Hustontown. He attended the Winegardner School, Hustontown. In addition to being a farmer, he was also retired from the Everett Hardwood Lumber C., Everett. He enjoyed John Deere Tractors. Born June 5, 1937, at Connellsville, he was a son of the late George and Gertrude (Guth) Ansell. He was married to the former Mary E. McMullen May 2, 1958, at Huntingdon. Mrs. Ansell survives at their home. One son and three daughters survive: George D. Ansell, Mapleton; Sheryl K. Ansell, Huntingdon; Susan M. Fecich, Burlington, N.J.; and Kathy L. She was formerly of 516 East Atlantic Ave., Altoona. Born Feb. 3, 1919, in Shirleysburg, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd J. and Ida E. (Atherton) Grove. She was united in marriage to Joseph J. Appleby Oct. 9, 1937, in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Appleby survives. She is survived by one son and two daughters: Dennis Appleby and Loretta Greaser, both of Hollidaysburg, and Carole Dodson, Altoona. WEIMERT, 71, of 1581 Pinchot Road, Saxton, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness. Born Aug. 26, 1931, in Stonerstown, he was a son of the late Marshall and Mollie (Gates) Weimert. He was united in marriage to Caroline M. Dively Nov. 4, 1953, in Newry. Mrs. Weimert survives at home. Four children survive: Mrs. Eugene (Debra) Smith, Hollidaysburg; Mrs. Alfred (Bonita) Chamberlain, Saxton; Mrs. Edward (Susan) Davis, Schellsburg; and Fred E. He was a life member of Saxton VFW Post 4129, Saxton and a member of the Teamsters Union. During the Korean Conflict, he was stationed in Alaska as a surgical technician serving with the U.S. Army. Genevieve N. (Dore) SHOOP, 75, of R.R. 1, Box 8, Huntingdon, died at 11:40 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona, following health complications since January 2002. She and her husband had previously resided in Monroeville, Springfield, Va., and Knoxville, Tenn. She had resided in Walker Twp. for 14 years. Born Oct. 24, 1926, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Robert G. Sr. and Edith M. (Condrin) Dore. She was united in marriage to John R. Shoop July 9, 1947, in Winchester, Va. Mr. Shoop survives at their Walker Twp. residence. She is survived by one daughter and one son: Mrs. Joseph (Linda Ann Shoop) Porowski, Erie, and Gary Lee Shoop, Columbus, Ohio. Mrs. Shoop was a member of McConnellstown United Methodist Church, McConnellstown. She was formerly a member of Standing Stone Garden Club, Huntingdon Country Club's Ladies Golf and bridge Club, Northern Virginia women's Club and the Knoxville, Tenn., Women's Club. She attended Huntingdon public schools and graduated from Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1946. Primarily a homemaker, she was employed at the former Reeves-Parvin, Huntingdon for two years following graduation. She enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle. Mr. and Mrs. Shoop traveled extensively throughout the United States, including Hawaii. Born Feb. 14, 1923, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Paul and Ora (Leeder) Horton. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia R. Horton, in Lincoln. One daughter, Mrs. Bruce W. (Christy D.) Cale, Magnolai, Del., survives. There are two grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Clarice Swift, Wooster, Mass. Two sisters preceded him in death. the Rev. Horton was a member of the Calvary Church of the Nazarene, Dover, Del. He graduated from Eastern Nazarene College, where he was class president, in 1948. His first church was in McMechan, W.Va., where he served from 1948-1950. Other pastorates were: Washington, Pa., 1950-1960; Coraopolis, 1960-1968; Dover, Del, 1968-1971; associate minister in Salisbury, Md. 1971-1976; McConnellstown, 1976-1984; and Broad Top City, his home church, 1984-1988. He retired and moved to Quincy, Mass, where he worked as an assistant chief of security from 1988-1994. He retired again and moved to Lincoln in 1994. GARDNER, 49, of New Columbia, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 22, 2002, at her residence, after a three year battle with cancer. She was a former resident of Sunbury and Shamokin Dam. Born in Huntingdon, Oct. 10, 1953, she was the daughter of George A. and Romane (Gass) Park. Her father survives in Shamokin Dam. Her mother is deceased. She was united in marriage to Richard H. Gardner Jr. Sept. 20, 1997. Mr. Gardner survives. She is also survived by one daughter Heidi N. Delaney, San Jose, Calif., and two stepsons: Richard J. Gardner, Watsontown, and Ben G. Gardner, Milton. There are three grandchildren. Mrs. Gardner was a member of the Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, New Columbia, where she sang in the church choir. She was a former member of the Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church, Sunbury. She was a member of the Susquehanna Valley Chorale. A 1971 graduate of Selinsgrove High School, she was a medical secretary and was formerly employed by Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano and was a great lover of nature and the outdoors. Dr. Robert M. FLEMING, 91, of 121 W. Market St., Mount Union, died unexpectedly at 9:49 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born March 15, 1911, in Saltillo, he was a son of the late Dr. S. Bruce and Martha (Crouse) Fleming. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean (Bard) Fleming, whom he married Dec. 5, 1942, at St. Malachy Church, Rantoul. Ill. He is also survived by a niece and nephew, Betty Ann Shope and Gerald Shope, both of Mount Union, who were reared in his home. Several other nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews survive. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by a brother, Frank Fleming, a sister, Helen Shope. Dr. Fleming was a member of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union. He served on the board of the Salvation Army for a period of years. He was a member of the Mount Union Historical Society; the Mount Union Lions Club; the American Legion Post No. 107, Mount Union; and the Mount Union Area Alumni Association. A member of the Pennsylvania Dental Society, he was also a member of the American Dental Association and the Seventh District Dental Society. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Catherine of Siena Council No. 6106, Mount Union, third and fourth degrees. For 16 years he served on the Mount Union Borough Council. A graduate of Mount Union High School, Class of 1930, he graduated from Juniata College in 1934 and from the Temple University School of Dentistry, Philadelphia, in 1938. Following schooling, he practiced dentistry in Mount Union until entering the military. During World War II, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps Aug. 14, 1942, as a dentist, and was discharged May 23, 1946, attaining the rank of captain. Upon leaving the military , he resumed his practice of dentistry in Mount Union until his retirement Jan. 31, 1977, after nearly 40 years in the field of dentistry. He enjoyed raising registered beagles. He also enjoyed hunting and gardening. HALL, 91, formerly of 1407 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, died at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at Huntingdon Manor, Warm Springs Avenue, Huntingdon. Born March 6, 1911, in Saltillo, she was a daughter of the late Leroy and Etta (Stake) Barber. She married Ira S. Hall Oct. 20, 1928, in Maryland. Mr. Hall preceded her in death Aug. 9, 1962. She is survived by a niece, Delores "Dee" Olivo of Huntingdon, who was reared in her home. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by an infant son, three sisters and two brothers: Hazel Barber, Clema Barber, Ruth Elder, Charles Barber and Donald Barber. Mrs. Hall was a member of the Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. She had been employed by the former Susquehanna Silk Mill, and the former Reliable Cleaners, both of Huntingdon. she was later employed in the housekeeping department at Juniata College, Huntingdon. SHENEFELT, 90, formerly of 501 College Ave., Huntingdon, died Wednesday. Oct. 23, 2002, at her home in Bradenton, Fla. Born Aug. 20, 1912, in Defiance, she was a daughter of the late Chester and Lena Hitchens. She was united in marriage to H. Lex Shenefelt April 14, 1943, at St. James Lutheran Church, Huntingdon, by the Rev. Edward L. Manges. Mr. Shenefelt preceded her in death Dec. 26, 1993. She is survived by one son, Willard "Bill’ Raker, of Bradenton. There are four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. One sister, Dorcas Taylor of Cocoa Beach, Fla.. also survives. Mrs. Shenefelt was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. Huntingdon. She was a member of J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital Alumni; American Nurses Association; Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 159, Huntingdon; and PSEA. A graduate of Broad Top Township High School, she also graduated from J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital Nursing School and received a bachelor’s degree from Shippensburg State College. She also studied at Juniata College and Penn State University and spent a year in Europe pursuing her studies. Following graduation, she was employed as a private duty nurse and also worked as an assistant for two local doctors. KENYON, 82, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at Valley View Haven. Born Jan. 11, 1920, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late William M. and Estella (Dell) Corbin. She was united in marriage to Clair F. Kenyon, Aug. 31, 1943. Mr. Kenyon preceded her in death Dec. 24, 1990. She is survived by one daugther and one son: Mrs. Philip G, (Pamela Kenyon) Thompson, Huntingdon, and Clair F. Kenyon Jr., Dauphin. There are four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One sister and one brother survive: Mrs. Richard (Hazel) McCoy, New Bloomfield; and Clinton D. Corbin, Huntingdon. One brother, George Corbin, preceded her in death. Mrs. Kenyon was a member of the Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Auxiliary to the J.C Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. She graduated from Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1937. She had a varied working career which began at Swigart Associates. She also worked for Huntingdon County, when her husband was the sheriff; at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in the X-ray department; and retired from Juniata College with 20 years of service. Mrs. Kenyon always appreciated the many activities for relaxation and learning provided by the community, the college and the hospital. She was an avid reader, enjoyed attending plays and movies, traveling, playing bridge with friends and family, and spending time with her much-loved cat, Codie. In accordance with Mrs. Kenyon's wishes, arrangements were made with the Humanities Gift Registry, Philadelphia, to donate her body for medical studies. Private services will be held at a later date. Mildred A. Gates, 94, of University Park Nursing Center, State College, formerly of Marengo, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at the nursing center. Born Aug. 15, 1908, in Marengo, she was a daughter of the late W. Scott and Lydia (Barto) Bressler. She was united in marriage to Carl Luther Gates March 18, 1927, at the Pine Grove Lutheran Church with the Rev. English officiating. Mr. Gates preceded her in death Oct. 29, 1989. She is survived by two sons: Arva W. Gates of Gatesburg, and Sidney G. Gates of Marengo. There are four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. One brother and one sister also survive: Roy Bressler of Graysville, and Mabel Bressler of Alexandria. Interment will be made in Ross Cemetery, Centre County. Beecher W. STAPLETON, 83, of HCR 1, Box B, Todd, died at 7:20 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at his home, following an extended illness. Born June 30, 1919, in Todd, he was a son of the late James M. and Susan Gertrude (Edwards) Stapleton. He was united in marriage to Orlena M. Mollish in 1949, at Beavertown Church of God, Todd. Mrs. Stapleton survives at their home. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ford W. Stapleton. Mr. Stapleton was associated with the Beavertown Church of God, Todd. He was a member of Cromwell Lodge No. 572, F&AM, Orbisonia; Harrisburg Consistory; Juniata Court tall Cedars of Lebanon; and Jaffa Shrine, Altoona. He was also a member of the American Legion, Orbisonia, and the Standing Stone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1754, Huntingdon. A 1938 graduate of Robertsdale High School, Robertsdale, he served in the 76th Division of the U.S. Army during World War II. He engaged in the Battle of the Bulge. He began a 25-year employment history with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Environmental Resources in 1956, as a forest ranger. Susan May HARPSTER, 89, of Pine Grove Mills, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at the Fairways at Brookline village. Born March 21, 1913, in Gatesburg, she was a daughter of the late William F. and Mary H. (Griffin) DeArmit. On Jan. 19, 1946, she married Jay R. Harpster, who died Jan. 15, 1998. Mrs. Harpster is survived by a daughter, Wilma J. Ewing of Petersburg, and a son, William J. Harpster of Pine Grove Mills. Two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Harpster was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary C. Guyer and Anna J. DeArmit, and two brothers, Harold L. DeArmit and Samuel L. DeArmit. Mrs. DeArmit was a member of the Lutheran faith. she worked as a domestic in private homes until her retirement in 1975. Interment will be in Gatesburg Cemetery. Robert R. WAGNER JR., 58 of Dartmoor Woods, Elkridge, Md., formerly of Mount Union, died unexpectedly at his home Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002. Born Aug. 18, 1944, in Huntingdon, he was the son of Robert R. Sr. and Helen (Atherton) Wagner of Mount Union. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters: Mrs. Robert (Jeanne) Doenges, Warrenton, Va., and Mrs. David (Deborah) Wylie, Johnstown. He is also survived by five nieces. Mr. Wagner was of the Methodist faith. A graduate of Captain Jack High School, Mount Union, in 1962, he also attended Kansas City Aeronautical School, in Atlanta, Ga., for Delta Airlines. He was a senior customer service representative for Delta Airlines, where he worked for 34 years, from 1966-2000. Mr. Wagner enjoyed his family and had a great love for music. "Hink" NORRIS, 92, formerly of R.R. 1, Shirley Twp., Mount Union, died at 10:25 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at The Oaks at Westminister Woods, Huntingdon, where he had resided since Sept. 10, 1997. A son of the late Soloman and Margaret Elizabeth (Corcelius) Norris, he was born Sept. 26, 1910, in Hesston. He was united in marriage To Annabelle Ronk Sept. 17, 1949, at the McConnellstown United Church of Christ parsonage, by the Rev. Marion Smith. Mrs. Norris survives at their Shirley Twp. residence. He is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Lester (Linda Jean) Edgin, Mount Union; Judy Ann Bucher, Catawissa; Mrs. Paul (Cindy Sue) Neidig, Mount Gretna; and Mrs. Joe (Debbie Jo) Williams, Cabool, Mo. There are eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One brother, Thomas M. Norris, Huntingdon, survives. He was preceded in death by six sisters: Cora Fisher, Amy Norris, Elda Thompson, Carrie Rhodes and twin infant sisters; two brothers: Charles and Miles Morris; and a grandson, Robert DeHaven Norris. Mr. Norris attended St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Hesston. He attended public schools in Hesston. He had worked for a number of years with his father on the family farm. After 30 years of service in the maintenance department of Owens Corning Fiberglas, Huntingdon, he retired in 1976. He had been a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and had lived in Hesston for 42 years before moving to his home in Shirley Twp. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed both hunting and fishing and making apple cider. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, 207 Ridge Road, Smithfield Twp, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Edward S. Gobrecht officiating. Interment will be made in Anderson Cemetery, Penn Twp. Veronica "Verna" Marie Baker CROFCHECK, 75, who resided with her daughter in Mechanicsburg, died at approximately 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. She was formerly of Mount Union. She was born Nov. 25, 1926, in Mount Union, a daughter of the late Stefan and Mary Svrcek. She was first married to William Baker Sr., who preceded her in death in November 1973. Her second marriage was to John Crofcheck, who preceded her in death in February 1996. She is survived by the following children: Phyllis Berkebile, Mechanicsburg; William Baker Jr., Hollidaysburg; Dennis Baker and Mrs. Daniel (Sally) Boone, both of the Trough Creek area; Mrs. Terry (Mary) Jamison, Orbisona; and Mrs. Marvin (Eva) Byers, Rockhill Furnace. She is also survived by two stepsons: Edward Crofcheck and George Crofcheck, both of Alexandria. There are 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a number of step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren. One brother and one sister survive: Paul Svrcek, Wyandotte, Mich., and Sue Drake, Mount Union. She was preceded in death by two step-children: John Crofcheck and Marie Wensel; three grandchildren; six stillborn infant brothers and sisters and the following brothers and sisters: Steve Switzer, Joe Svrcek, John Svrcek, Andrew Svrcek, Eva Wilt, Anna Estep and Margaret Gardner. Mrs. Crofcheck was a devout member of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union. She retired in 1989 from Bleyer Industries, Mount Union. Previously, she had worked for the former L. Greif Brothers Manufacturing, Mount Union, having several years of service at each location. Mrs. Crofcheck had participated in an intensive pulmonary rehabilitation program, receiving a diploma for successful completion in 1995. She enjoyed gardening and flowers and liked birdwatching. She was also interested in handcrafting. She enjoyed her family. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home. Mount Union, with the Rev. Elwood Euane FADDIS, 83, of 86 Faddis Lane, Millerstown, Tuscarora Twp., died at 9:40 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Epworth Manor, Tyrone, where he had been a resident since Oct. 23. Born Nov. 9, 1918, in Valley Forge, he was a son of the late Thomas B. and Anna P. (Hartshaw) Faddis. He was married to Margaret Jane Walton April 13, 1940, in Leesburg, Va., at the parsonage of the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Cawkins officiating. Mrs. Faddis preceded him in death May 25, 2002. He is survived by two daughters: Mrs. David (Mary Jane) Frees Jrs., Phoenixville; and Mrs. Charles (Linda F.) Weko Jr., Alexandria. There are five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One brother and two sisters survive: Henry R. Faddis, Phoenixville; Martha MacIntyre, Pottstown; and Elizabeth Pogue, Chambersburg. He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother, Mary Faddis and Thomas B. Faddis Jr. Mr. Faddis was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of Phoenixville Lodge No. 75, F&AM; Rajah Shrine Temple, Reading; Tall Cedars of Lebanon Lodge No. 34, Spring City; Reading Consistory; National Rifle Association; Fair Play Hunt Club, Blaine; and the Myrtle Beach Fossil Club. He was a charter member of Phoenixville Historical Society. He graduated from Phoenixville High School with the Class of 1937. He retired in 1980 after more than 30 years of service as a foreman with B.F. Goodrich, Oaks. An avid hunter, he also enjoyed traveling and photography. In his later years, he enjoyed playing games on the computer and the Internet. A memorial service at S. John's Lutheran Church, Phoenixville, will be held at a later date. Private interment will be made in Morris Cemetery, Phoenixville. Norman Gilbert "Pappy" GLADFELTER, 72, of 25 Sprayberry Road, Newnan, Ga., died Monday, Oct, 28, 2002, at his home, following an extended illness. he was a former resident of Mill Creek and Huntingdon. Born June 17, 1930, in Mapleton, he was a son of the late Edward and Arminta Gladfelter. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Otha Gladfelter,and one son, Norman Gilbert "Skip" Gladfilter II. There are three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters: James Gladfelter, Carl Gladfelter, Leroy Gladfelter, Clarence Gladfelter, Cloyd Gladfelter, Chester Gladfelter, Mildred Huey, Ida Whitsel and Helen Shea. Mr. Gladfelter was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Newnan. He was a member of the VFW Post In Newnan, serving as commander from 1984-1985. He was also Georgia State VFW Commander during that same time frame. He was a Master Mason member of Sylvan Lodge, Newnan. He served in the U.S. Army for several years, beginning in 1947 and, following his honorable discharge, joined the U.S. Air Force, serving for 22 and one-half years. During his military career he was a member of the medical corps. Following his military career, he resided in the Huntingdon area and was employed by Owens Corning Fiberglas, Huntingdon. He had been employed by Papp Clinic, Newnan, and by James Rivers Corporation, Newnan, from where he retired. For several years, he was deputy sheriff of Coweta County, Georgia. Mr. Gladfelter was instrumental in raising funds for the veterans monument in City Park, Newnan, where an annual veterans memorial service is held each year. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and grandson. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 31, in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, with the Rev. Charles Chapman and Dick Stentes officiating. Interment was made in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan. Daniel A. FORTSON SR., 52, of 1428 18th Ave., Altoona, formerly of Mount Union, died at 8:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at Bon Secours Holy Family Regional Health Center, Altoona. He had been in failing health. Born Sept. 17, 1950, in Huntingdon, he was a son of Glady's (Williams) Fortson of Mount Union and the late Robert Fortson. He had been married to the former Delores Bridger of Altoona. He is survived by his companion of 15 years, Janet Reed, Altoona. Two children survive: Felicia Trice, Hagerstown, Md.; and Danny Fortson Jr., Oakland, Calif. He is survived by seven stepchildren: Tanya Bosnick, Tammy Bridger, David Reed, Mark Reed, Randy Reed, Lori Reed and Amy Reed, all of Altoona. There are 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson. The following brothers and sisters survive: Ronald Fortson, Fort Worth, Texas; Donald Fortson, Mrs. Montague (Joan) Walker, Willard Fortson and Mrs. Roger (Jean) Trice, all of Mount Union; Dale Fortson, Harrisburg; Marjorie Fortson, Lancaster; Patricia Ann Fortson, Owings Millls, Md.; and Charles Fortson, Colorado Springs, Colo. He was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Fortson. Mr. Fortson attended the Mother Gethsemane Church of God in Christ, Altoona. He was a member of the Arondale Elks Lodge, Altoona. A graduate of Mount Union Area High School, Class of 1969, he will be remembered as a high school basketball standout, having held the single game scoring record in Mount Union for many years. Following high school, he attended Shriner's College in Texas. He had been employed for 18 years by the New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. He then worked for McCartney's Office Supply, Altoona, for eight years. He loved fishing and spending time at the river. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at the Bethel AME Church, 16 W. Grant St., Mount Union, with the Revs. I.S. Owens and Annette Joell officiating. Interment will be made in the Mount Union Cemetery. Stanley R. CARBERRY, 78, of Blackburn Avenue, Bedford, died at 7:16 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at UPMC Bedford Memorial, Snake Spring Twp. Bedford. Born Sept. 16, 1924, in Dudley, he was a son of the late Charles and Sarah (Whited) Carberry. He was united in marriage to Helen G. Morgart March 22, 1947. Mrs. Carberry survives. One daughter, Mrs. Martin (Carol E.) Kalos of Melrose Park, survives. There are two grandsons. One sister and two brothers also survive; Mrs. Clair (Florine) Long, Broad Top City; Lee Carberry, Baltimore, Md.; and Thomas Carberry, Levittown. He was preceded in death by two infant brothers. Mr. Carberry was a member of Bedford Presbyterian Church where he was a trustee, a past elder and a member of various committees. He was a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge No. 320 F&AM; the Harrisburg Consistory; the Jaffa Temple, Altoona; and the Bedford Royal Arch Chapter No. 255. During World War II, he served in Italy as a private first class in the United States Army. He was the owner of Stanley R. Carberry Plumbing and Heating, Bedford. A gasoline and fuel oil distributor, since 1956 he was a reseller for Exxon products. Mr. Carberry developed Carberry Housing Development, Bedford. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Louis Geisel Funeral Home, 330 E. Pitt St., Bedford, with the Rev. Douglas Friant officiating. Interment will be made in Bedford County Memorial Park, Bedford, where graveside military rites will be accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Jesse R. RUPERT, 85, of R.R. 2, Box 360, Huntingdon, died at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born May 27, 1917, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Samuel and Mary (Crane) Rupert. He was united in marriage to Gladys M. Port. Mrs. Rupert survives at their home. Six children survive: Joan Weidel, Burt, N.Y.; John Rupert, Alexandria; Barbara Beccue, Henderson, Nev.; Kenneth Rupert, Pueblo West, Colo.; Ruth Cassatt, Huntingdon; and Arthur Rupert, Newfane, N.Y. There are 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters also survive: Dale Rupert, Huntingdon; Burley Rupert, Canton, Ohio; Alta Bailey, Mechanicsburg; and Janet Voss, Rochester. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Fern Rupert, Paul Rupert, Frank Rupert and Blair Rupert. Mr. Rupert was a member of Barker Assembly of God Church, Barker, N.Y. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. A graduate of Huntingdon High School, he retired from Harrison Radiator, General Motors, Lockport, N.Y. In keeping with Mr. Rupert's wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services. Interment will be made in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Petersburg. Velma Jeanette (Curfman) PEOPLES, 71, of Walker Twp. Huntingdon, died at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at The Oaks at Westminister Woods, Huntingdon, where she had resided since January 2000. Born June 3, 1931, at the family home in Penn Twp., Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Homer O. and Helen E. (Lang) Curfman. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Thomas J. (Deborah J.) King, Hesston; one grandson, Kenneth J. Hess, Hesston; two granddaughters, Melinda K. Shoemaker and Jeanette E. King, both of Hesston; and two great-granddaughters, Kendra J. Hess and Samantha B. Shoemaker. One brother, H. Richard Curfman, Coudersport, also survives. Mrs. Peoples was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, McConnellstown. She was a member of the McConnellstown Fire Company Auxiliary. She graduated from Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1949. She retired in 1988 after many years of service at US Sports, Huntingdon. She was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County. Mrs. Peoples enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, bowling and camping. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, 207 Ridge Road, Smithfield Twp., Huntingdon, with the Rev. Sharon L. Landis officiating. Interment will be made in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Twp. Huntingdon.
