Patterson, of Spruce Creek, died suddenly Sunday morning at 10.20 o'clock. He was on his way to morning services in the United Brethren church at Spruce Creek, and just as he was in the act of entering the church door he began sinking and was caught in the arms of George Updike, who was near him. He expired instantly. The supposed cause is heart trouble. The deceased was aged 70 years, 11 months and 2 days. He was a veteran and pensioned soldier of the civil war and served his country faithfully as a member of company D, Forty-ninth Pennsylvania infantry volunteers. For upwards of thirty years he has been in the employ of the Pennsylvania railroad and a member of the Relief department. He was a consistent and active member of the United Brethren church for the past forty years, many of which he served as a class leader. He is survived by the aged partner of his joys and sorrows, Mrs. Sarah Jane Patterson, of Spruce Creek, and one son and two daughters, viz: Alfred Patterson, of Huntingdon; Mrs. Annie Demuth, of Philadelphia, and Mrs. Emma Kanour, of Tyrone. The following brothers and sisters also survive, viz: John N. Patterson, of Johnstown, Pa.; Stephen Patterson, of Shoenberger Mines, Huntingdon county; Mrs. Sophia Lego and Mrs. Susan Johnson, of Harrisburg, Pa., and Miss Hester Patterson, of Kittanning Point, Blair county, Funeral services will be held in the United Brethren church at Spruce Creek to- morrow morning at 10 o'clock, to be conducted by his pastor, after which the remains will be conveyed to Franklinville, Huntingdon county, for interment in the cemetery at that place.
